Today in Michigan it's a balmy 6 degrees with -18 wind chill
With those kind of temperatures, today thermostat is on 70 and that's comfortable.  But I have on sweat pants, a sweatshirt, and warm wooly socks.  Usually it's at 68 and 62 at night.
I'm in San Francisco - 63 degrees, sunny, light wind. nm
.
Only 10 here in west Michigan.
Windchill is -15 though. And snowing to beat the band to boot.
20 here on the west side of Michigan. nm

XanaX, I'm with you. West Michigan here and -5 at 3:15 pm. nm

I'm with you. I live in west Michigan. I am more than ready. nm

BRRRR
It is like 20 degrees here and I HAVE NO HEAT. I've got two little space heaters running in my tiny office and I still can't feel my fingers as I type!

I really hope the propane company makes it out today to fill our tank!

I'm in South Georgia. Anyone in North Georgia getting snow yet? I feel like we should be!
Brrrr, in sunny south and yet temperatures diving, how about you?
I live in a town about 19 miles south of Atlanta. Some years we are able to wear shorts and sandals around here but I am seeing our temperatures dropping rapidly and should be in the teens tomorrow morning. I know I have chilly neighbors elsewhere- what do you do to get ready (or are you ever ready) for the winter, snow, etc? Just recently got me a new space heater for my work room as I freeze when the temperature goes lower than say 60! Keep warm.
You know, just take a chill pill
I like to kid but just because you had what you think are complications to a tubal does not mean there are thousands out there saying best thing I ever did. I read some had depression. I was thankful and joyous that as far as sexuality goes did not have to rely on BCPs anymore and felt liberated. I never discussed a tubal or a vasectomy with my husband when I had my tubal. I knew what I wanted and that is what I did, signed the papers and there you go. If the OPs husband has serious concerns about not having a vasectomy, she might face the possibility of him being impotent but then that is something she would have to weigh, not me.
Once you chill off, what was the verdict with the spots? nm

I agree..chill out! It's been 2 months already. It is just a dog who knows no better.

Maybe wind chimes
...or anything that creates a noise may deter her. Your doors are a mirror to birds. Try haning objects in front of the door (on the outside) that will sway in the wind but not crash into the glass. String brightly colored cardboard, posterboard, beads, those shiny pinwheels you can find at the checkout counter at Wal-Mart, etc. It will enhance the beauty of your home, endear your neighbors to you and hopefully put an end to the Kamikaze Cardinal. An added benefit would be watching your cats go mental trying to grab the swinging things from the inside.

Okay, I have to tell a story about the wind and ashes
My uncle used to fly planes in the Air Force. He is now 77 so this was quite some time ago. When a friend died he wanted to be cremated and have his ashes scattered from a plane (also a pilot) over the ocean. Uncle Jack and his buddies took him up and opened a door over the ocean, the wind blew all the ashes right back into the plane (a cargo plane) and over all the friends. I really hope no one is offended by this. My mother was also cremated and her ashes were sprinkeled in the ocean (her request) and she just loved to tell this story.
Can someone tell me with children when do most people usually wind up taking their
vacations.  I am having a hard time right now getting a hotel and am thinking once the Summer vacations start dwindling it may help.
-23, lots of artic wind, and colder still tomorrow.

AA degrees
AA, BA are worthless today unless they are in a specialized field. Technical certificates are the way to go now. Companies are looking for skills not paper that says you took 2 or 4 years of college. I make more money than any of my friends who have AA or BA degrees..
Well, up here in Michigan
It is sooo cold, better today though. And luckily very sunny! IT's a real winter here after several years of "fake" winters!
I'm from Michigan and s/m

I have 6 in my home, 2 teens, 2 younger (7&8), 2 adults.  I spend minimum of $150 a week on food, probably closer to $200.  I do plan my meals out for the week prior to going.  I really need to get back to my couponing days!  I will do it religiously for months and then fade out when I don't have time to do it.  When I do couponing, I spend about the same, but get a lot more food for my buck.

This also includes cat food, cat liter and dog food (little dog), cleaning supplies.

1.59 here in SE Michigan nm

It's 23 degrees here
and we're having our first major blizzard. Just got home driving in it. No fun. Did I mention I hate snow?! Inside it's a nice toasty 68. Just watching The Ghost Whisperer and ready for a very early night.
It is 11 degrees here in

In Michigan we have . . .
Saunder's hot fudge ice cream sundaes (and other yummy stuff), Vernor's ginger ale, Faygo soda (mostly fruit flavors), Stroh's beer and ice cream, Better Made potatoe chips, and Velvet peanut butter.
I don't know about PA, but in Michigan.....
First off....document, document, document. Then call your local housing inspector. Tell him your sad tale of woe. They will come out and look and see if you have a valid complaint. A place I once lived in had BIG, BLACK BUG!!! Really big ones...The housing people made the landlord spray and eliminate the problem. THey were water bugs of some sort.

If that does not work, see if you have something like a Landlord/Tenent Association. They advocate for the renter against people such as your slumlord.

Depending on your income, try your local Legal Aid society. They are lawyers who help based on your income. Sliding scale at its best.

What I did was send MY slumlord (a management company) a certified, return receipt requested letter informing him that until he brought my apartment up to city housing standards, I was not going to pay my rent. But I made sure that I opened a savings account to keep the rent money in so he didn't think I was doing this because I did not want to pay my rent. Things eventually got fixed, but I had to go to the landlord directly to get my deposit back.

How PA works, I don't know, but I am sure you must have something similar.

Good luck.
Yes, when it's 90 degrees out, I care about AC. You

not working!  I am sitting here trying to type with water running. Just called Time and Temperature which said 102.  Never was a summer  person and this is not helping. Hope you are all cool!
Been getting them in Michigan, where do you live?

way out west
We can't get salt cured ham, so I order it from Smithfield. If you are in the south, you are lucky. For spiral cut, I just grab one at Sam's Club. They are good and not to expensive.

Just outside of KC,Mo. with a lovely 8 degrees this morning. nm

It's so hot outside you could fry an egg on the sidewalk, 96 degrees, humid, and hot, hot, hot!!!

Hasn't rained in the past 3 days, frogs were singing some' fierce last night, so I know storms will be here at some point today!

It was over 90 degrees at 9:30 am in South Florida.

350 degrees - 25 minutes per pound SM
Put a rack in the bottom of the pan so the meat is not touching the liquid.  Put about a cup or so of water in the bottom of the pain with some cut up onions and a little salt and pepper.  Place the roast on the rack, fat side up.  No need to cover the roast if you want a good crusty layer of fat on the meat.  This also keeps the meat moist.
I have a balmy 17 degrees at noon in PA
It's snowing...again.  The kids missed another day of school.  One of the only drawbacks of working at home.  Can't call the boss and say I'm snowed in!  But, yes, definitely looking forward to spring.  I was ready for spring the day after Christmas!
I live in Michigan....and yes, we are in a recession. sm
Regardless of what the drive-by media says, we are in a full-fledged recession. Our governor even signed legislation giving big breaks to movie companies who come to Michigan to film their movies. Well that might be alright for the east side of the state, but that doesn't help us on the west side of the state. Electrolux and Bissell to name a few were only the tip of the iceberg. Our schools are going south in a handbasket also. Things just don't look good for Michigan. Especially now that gas is over $4 a gallon. I am predicting $5 by the end of the month, first part of July and any tourism dollars that would be spent here by out of state people or traveling locals, will now be kept at home. Michigan needs help, but then don't we all.
Michigan passed it and I support it.
I think anyone who is seriously ill should have whatever is available to help ease their pain.  I know it helps with nausea of chemotherapy too.  I think it should be decriminalized.  People are killed every day by drunk driving or those who go into violent rages or blackouts.  Most pot smokers will only get enraged if you try to take away their Dorito's!
We live in Michigan and we keep our heat set at 68. sm
I live in Michigan and it gets COLD!!!. Not as cold as Wyoming, but I swear, sometimes....lol.

The only time the heat gets turned up any higher than 70 is on bath night. Then we also have a little propane heater we got from our local surplus store that helps in the bathroom.

In my office upstairs, I have an old heat lamp from our turtle tank that has a clamp type base and I have that clamped to the shelf over my keyboard. I have it aimed so it hits my hands and helps keep them warm. I figure if it works for our turtle, it will work for me. LOL.

We dress in layers too, even the 12 yo son. DH has some problems as he is diabetic, but Eddie Bauer Ragg wool socks are worth every penny you pay for them.

We do the plastic on the windows and we also spent some big bucks on plexi-glass and got two 45 x 64 pieces for our DR and KIT. We hold them in with double faced tape and then seal them with the same kind of tape they use on ductwork for trailers and RV's.

I agree with other posters too, get your thyroid checked. My doc told me that was one of the reasons for people being cold all the time.

Good luck.
perspective: 10 below in Michigan -- hate it!!

there's no preparing for this.  for us, 39 degrees is a heat wave.

just get all the supplies you could need and stay in.  the dog and three cats have cabin fever.  i have to go out and shovel -- just shoot me!!!  kid has a temp of 103.  this is so harsh.  beyond words... stay warm.

7 degrees this morning on my way to school!

Our kids were dismissed early last Thursday because of afternoon snow showers (better to be safe than sorry).  They also decided before sending them home on Thursday to close on Friday due to expected cold temperatures.  Temps were the same as today, yet we go to school today.  I don't get it.  We were off Monday for an in-service day, but they always schedule that on King day.  So why be off Friday but not today?  I'm guessing some higher-ups wanted a 4-1/2-day weekend.

Back in my day (I'm 34), we went to school unless it snowed 2 feet or we got an ice storm.  We never got off because it was "too cold".  I asked the school secretary about this, who's close to my age, and she agreed about "our day" and said she thinks it has to do with so many parents letting their kids stand at the bus stops for 1/2 hour or more because they don't want to get dressed and drive them to the bus stop and not dressing the kids properly.  She said you wouldn't believe the number of kids she sees at school dressed in shorts, etc, in the middle of winter.  We live in the Northeast, so it's not like we expect it to be warm this time of year.

I just will never understand some parents.  I drive my kids to school every day even though they're on the bus route.  The busses are just too cold in the morning and they'd have to get up 1/2 hour earlier and we already get up at 7:15 to be at school by 8.  I let them ride the bus home in the afternoon because the buses are warmed up 1/2 hour from picking up the high schoolers first and my kids are only on the bus for 15 minutes.  I also make sure my kids have hat, gloves and scarves when it's cold.  They don't always wear 'em, but they're in their backpacks if they need them.  Why don't some parents care?

Sorry -- off my soapbox.  This was just s'posed to be about the weather.   It's cold here -- BRRRRR

I only have 1 question - if you hold these degrees
what are you doing on this forum? Why are you not putting your masterful degrees to a better position that would be more than the lowly MT

Saunders hot fudge, Faygo, Stroh's ice cream (use to have a Stroh's ice cream shop by the house back in the 70s when in high school) and those wonderful Better Made potato chips!!!!!!!! Hubby was just in Michigan two weeks ago and brought back a bag. Nothing like em!!!!!!

What part of MI are you from? I am from the Pontiac Waterford area, born and raised!

Denver isn't west.....

I will be moving there soon and, sad for me, it is so flat I could hardly believe it.  It reminded me VERY much of Nebraska.  And the mountains are sooooooo far off in the distance.  I would have to say that I would consider Denver mid-west, not geographically of course but sure looked that way to me when I was there.  I like living right next to mountains and foothills in SoCal and Tahoe.

But it should be a VERY NICE place to VISIT!!!

Have a safe trip

?? Wyoming not out west?
I have been to Tahoe, driven to Yosemite and on the trip this summer going through the Rockies so do not think where I will visit will be all flat but then again my idea of a wonderful trip is scenery and animals and should get a dream trip again this summer. I said my departure from Denver, going through several states before leaving out. I hook up with an escorted tour and just have the time of my life. Went on same to Alaska last year. What a blast!
