Smoked country ham and smoked turkey with
dressing, hash brown casserole, green beans, broccoli salad, pretzel salad, homemade yeast rolls, chocolate pie, chess pie, etc. etc. Plus all the fudge, candy, and chocolate homemade chex mix sitting all over the place. Probably rice crispie treats and chocolate covered marshmellows for the kids, etc.
So you can pinpoint her behavior change. What is her history before she came to you? nm

OMG - HE SMOKES?????
I'm sorry to sound so sarcastic, but you cannot choose your daughter's life partners.  She may be one that does not choose to get married.  She needs to be her own person and make her own mistakes.  I would focus more on safe sex as opposed to no sex at this point as you do not want to alienate yourself from her life.  She will rebel.  You sound very controlling.  I would loosen your hold on her or you could lose her forever.
Big deal he smokes. I would rather have my daughter sm
date a smoker than a loser! Pestering won't help. Just buy her condoms and get her on the pill. Her getting pregnant would be much easier than her getting HIV. Good luck. Trust that you have raised her to be logical in her thinking. She will come around and dump the loser.
Holy smokes Cat! That is just terrifying!
I have had nightmares about tornadoes since I was a kid but never ever saw one except on TV or in movies.  They just scare the fecal matter right out of me!  They are the main reason I won't ever leave New England.  How you folks do it without going nutty is beyond me.  Please be safe out there!
what about the mom that smokes weed with her 2 year old left on the counter
that could fall off, grab a knife, who KNOWS. just so she could "FEEL GOOD".

this is a ridiculous argument. should it be illegal? who knows who cares, i look at it like anything else that alters your mentation, including alcohol.

both can turn out to be bad BAD decisions

do i personally care if you smoke pot once in awhile, no i dont but that's like assuming EVERYONE is doing it responsibly.
that's a joke
Holy smokes!!!! Have you seen the new and improved Susan Boyle????

I almost fell off my chair in the difference.

Holy smokes, I have thick, long brown hair
$50.00 for cut and color and my hairdresser does a wonderful job.
no, the smoked ones are different,
and i haven't tried them...but i might have to.
My mom smoked for 63 years. She

always had healthy lungs. After she broke her hip the first time, the doctors kept telling me to get her off the cigarettes. She would not quit, but I finally got her to quit 2 years later by telling her I quit, because she also started falling asleep with lit ciggies and burning things.

Three months later, she was in for another broken hip. After the films came back from her chest x-ray, the ER physician pointed out a nodule in her lung...not sure if it was the start of lung cancer and wanted to keep close watch. I hate to say this, but thank heavens she never came home. I would have felt very guilty for making her stop and she might have gotten lung cancer through not smoking.

My husband's mother died from lung and back cancer. She had smoked all her life and quit. A year later, she was gone.

Makes you think and wonder about it.

I smoked for 20 years...sm
and I quit a little over a year ago, 11/15/07. It was hard...so hard, and I still want to smoke at times. I used Commit, and could not have done it without that. I still use Commit sometimes. But I feel SO much better since quitting! It can be done! Think of it this way...are you more afraid of quitting or of dying from smoking? Me, I'm more afraid of dying from smoking. Good luck to you! Just know it is absolutely possible!
my mom and dad smoked and my dad drank sm
it played a big role to me. i never picked up a cigarette in my life and i don't drink. not sure why you took that post so personally.

I'd say it depends how long you have smoked - sm
and how old you are. A friend of mine quit and went about 8 months or so, is now back to a 3-4 cigs a day due to stress, brother died (accidental drug/alcohol OD--plus he had diabetes and hepatitis), then mom got lung cancer (was still smoking at 78, 50+ years smoker, 2 heart attacks), I don't know if she quit but she had stage IV so they knew she did not have long (3 months or so). My friend is still doing the 3-4 cigs a day though she felt so much better NOT smoking. Yes she gained some weight, but she had a 3 floor walk-up apartment so that helped her some. I am hoping she will quit for good here soon. Her stress level has dropped as she moved back in with her dad (though he is not the easiest person to live with)...he wants her to have the house when he dies which is probably soon....he was terribly affected by his son and wife's deaths. Smoking sucks, plain and simple. I am a nonsmoker. I hate the smell, cannot understand how anyone can deal with stinking all the time, having a smelly home, smelly clothes, car, etc. We just stayed in a hotel last weekend, a nonsmoking room....I smelled the cig smoke the second I walked in the door, wanted another room but it was fully booked. It was not too bad but still annoyed me that I had a room, that had a balcony, where someone smoked where they were not supposed to. Sorry, ranting. ---Unless you are over 55 or so and have smoked for 30+ years I would not worry about lung cancer. My DH quit before I met him, had smoked for 12 or so years, pack a day. He is in great shape, lung cancer in his family too. He has been smoke-free for 20 years now. His lungs get sore when around lots of smoke though, and he did have pneumonia really bad right before I met him that I think did some damage (he was seriously ill for 3 weeks) to his lungs as they are very sensitive now as I said. But other than that he is healthy as a horse. Quit. Set aside the money you save and take a nice vacation next summer. You will lose your chronic cough, smell tons better, get your taste buds back, get rid of that stain on your teeth and fingers, and once all the nicotine is gone add a few years BACK onto your life. Good luck!
i like smoked salted almonds
is that the same thing? lol

I used to buy them in bulk
but it's almost like they dont fill me up, even though they do.
i guess it's that they aren't satisfying even though i like them, you know?

:)
Both of my parents smoked two packs a day inside.
Dad has COPD and asthma now. DH smokes but only in his garage and less than a half-pack per day. I have asthma now that's aggravated by cigarette smoke. I can't even be around it in an enclosed space. I've never allowed anybody to smoke inside my house because of my kids.
we were born to mothers who smoked and drank
our cribs were covered in lead based paint. .And we turned out okay. . Your MIL would not EVER knowingly do anything to harm your child. . but 9 months old seems a little young - if she were older and could sit up and hold on, and MIL drove real slow, maybe it would be okay. . My dad used to take my daughter rides on the tractor - I worried but never said anything - it didn't happen often. . I think she should have asked you first.
I used to smoke and NEVER smoked inside the house. nm
No message.
marry someone who smoked or couldn't sing sm
He smokes and won't be on American Idol anytime soon but isn't completely awful lol
Please understand, being that you are younger than how long I have smoked, docs
used to ENCOURAGE it - I am sure others can remember.  Doc sitting with a pack of cigarettes in his shirt pocket and suggesting it for best stress reliever.  Do I blame them?  No, not at all.  I truly feel that cancer is such a huge money machine that medicine would be hurting poorly if a cure was actually found (or disclosed).  And, as you have not smoked before, you are entirely correct in that you cannot understand.
I quit (I am still fairly young, so only smoked 8 years), but
I feel so much better. Even if someday I get lung cancer despite having quite, I am thankful to not wake up coughing every morning and to have clothes that don't stink and to be able to tell my kids not to smoke without being a hyprocrite. I can tell them why I quit. Mostly, I just feel better for the time being and that is enough. Plus, I save A LOT of money because cigarettes were darned expensive in Washington state.
Very low-tech fix
I take a soft beach towel and fold it until it is the height and length of the keyboard. Then I place it on desk in front of the keyboard. It supports my wrists and forearms and is nice and soft and cushy. When it flattens, I just throw it in the washer and it is good to go.
VA tech shooting
OMG who absolutely awful. God help those poor families in their grief. So far 22 dead and 21 wounded as well as the gunman. What on earth possesses people to do atrocities like this? I just cannot fathom the effect this will have on the families. And to think I have a son going away to college in the fall......
Mr. Tech Support
Way too funny! You can bring your guns to my house any time. LOL
Surgical tech. That's what I want to be.
I really don't want to be a nurse.  I am going to check into it tomorrow.  My son, who is graduating from high school next month and will be attending the same college, said that no, he would not be horribly embarrassed to have his mother at the same school at the same time as him!
TS = Tech Support said in one of his
posts:

'Ignore them and they will go away.'

So, you see, Ella, this is not a brain child of 'Anudder'.
Where do you work that you can't get tech or sup help at 11 a.m.?

I asked the lab tech how long
and she said 2-3 days, so I guess not frozen?
Tech question spyware

My husband uses something to spy on our kids when they are online.   He can log in to his computer either on his lap top or at work and then follow their conversations if they are talking on messenger or writing emails.   He said he can even manipulate the cursor so it messes with them.  He thinks it's funny.

It makes me wonder now if he is doing the same thing to me because I notice my cursor go crazy occasionally when I'm working.  How can I tell if he has it on mine?

I already asked him point blank if he was doing it to me and he denied it of course but I don't believe him.

Tech/video question

I have been trying to open a video of a speech my nephew gave and cannot get my computer to open it.  It asks what program to open it with (or if want to do a Internet search), and I have tried both.  The Internet thing didn't come up with anything I found useful, and my own computer only has Windows Media Player, which did not work.

My sister says it works on hers ... it does not even ask what to open; simply opens and plays.  She cannot tell what program it is using.

The file says it's a MP-4 auto file if that helps.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Dear Scrub Tech
Please stop crashing and clanging those heavy metal dishes and instruments while the surgeon is dictating the operative report. How the heck am I supposed to understand a word he/she is saying when there is a huge crash every few minutes during critical portions of the report?
Letter to Tech Support...sm
Thought I would share this exchange with Tech Support:

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slow down in overall system performance, particularly in the Flower and Jewelry application, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0.

In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, and then installed undesirable programs such as NASCAR 6.0, NFL 5.1 and Golf Clubs 4.1.

Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system.

Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail. What can I do?

Signed, Desperate

DEAR DESPERATE,

First, keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an operating system.

Please go to the Web page "ithoughtyoulovedme.html" and try to download Tears 6.2. Do not forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update while you're at it.

If those applications work as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5.

However, remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default toGrumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0 or Beer 6.1. Please note that Beer 6. 1 is a very bad program that will download the Farting and Snoring Loudly Beta.

Whatever you do, DO NOT under any circumstances install Mother-In-Law 1.0, which runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources.

In addition, please do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend 5.0-program. This will cause Husband 1.0 to crash.

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great operating system, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance. We recommend Cooking 3.0 and Hot Lingerie 7.7.

Good luck!
Am considering installing a Pebble Tech floor.

I wonder if Pebble Tech is the right choice.  One adult, four animals, 1400 sq. foot.  What I am concerned about is being able to keep it clean and how comfortable they are to walk on with bare feet.  Cost is fairly reasonable when compared to tile and the look I like (the beach!).

Anyone have experience with this type of flooring?  Will it make my home look like a business rather than a home?  Is keeping it clean a hassle?

Thank you much!

Horrible tragedy at Virginia Tech

In Blacksburg, VA.  Someone went on a shooting rampage and he and at least 20 others are confirmed dead.  My son is in high school but was there today on a field trip.  He and his class were walking on campus when a professor took them to a safe room in the basement of a building.  My son used his cell (wasn't supposed to have it with him but thank goodness he did) to call my hubby, and he came home from work to tell me.  I of course went all to pieces but am a little better now. Just can't imagine what the parents of the other students are going through. They are now allowed to leave as soon as the can find the bus and bus driver.  He was sent to another part of the campus.  Just needed to talk about this a little.  Thanks for listening.

I live 20 minutes from VA Tech. This is so tragic. My son is a ......sm
junior but he goes to Roanoke College and still lives at home. I called him because I wonder if some classmates he graduated with were involved in today's tragedy. I feel sick inside. We take way too much for granted.
gift ideas for high tech men who have everything

Since you all have great volunteering ideas, I thought I'd pick your brains about what to give high tech men who have everything for Christmas.

Things not to say to people!! Ultrasound tech said (sm)
After doing my ultrasound for an ovarian cyst she says as I am getting up, "are you still having your cycles?"  Thanks. I'm 40.
What do you make of the lab tech questioning the donated eggs? (sm)
There seemed to be something weird there, but can't figure out whose eggs they might be, if that is what was even implied.
Tech gifts that aren't compatible w/ your computerr
We had THREE gifts yesterday that would not work with our computer - one of them being a simple MP3 player.  Spent all afternoon yesterday trying to get these things to work, downloading patches, trying every trick we knew.  Now we have to try to return these already opened electronic gifts and see if they will take them back!  Two of them were for my ten-year-old son who was very sweet about it, but obviously disappointed.  I see on Yahoo some of the top stories today are "how to return tech gifts".  Arrrggh!!
As a prior vet tech and diabetic, I wouldnt touch this
x
ROFL, hey Tech, still got knots on your head, bet she did scream at you...sm

but not in a good way.  Your humor makes me laugh!  Hope your wife didn't stay mad long.  Another good mark for you, at least you didn't lie or omit that you're married.  Hey use some of that money you saved from the butler and buy your wife some flowers to replace that frying pan she's chasing you around with

Keep up the great jokes though, you make this board what it's supposed to be, fun!
