Pay Rate
Hi.  I'm interested in finding some doctors in my area to do work for extra income at home.  I have 9 1/2 years of experience and work at home for a big national.  I have no idea what the going rate would be or even the basis on which to charge (line, page, ???).  I live in a rural area so it would probably be low-average.  I appreciate any advice anybody could give me on this subject.  Thanks.
You can say that about adults but
How horrid of you to feel that way.

I think that is more than most - we used to be about that rate (sm)
til things got really bad in our marriage.
Rate MDs
Hey I had posted awhile back regarding my frustrations finding a decent doctor.  I came across an article talking about rating doctors on the Internet and it listed the RateMDs.com website.  Of course, the AMA and other doctors are all in a huff about patients, God forbid, rating them online.  Anyways, I went to RateMDs.com and found a doctor I had been to had already received a poor rating!  Hehe I added to it.  But I also used it to help me choose a new PCP who had an excellent rating.  The receptionist also told me that they have new patients on Thursday and allot more time so they can go over their medical history and issues!  Wow I thought, that's awesome.  We'll see how it goes.  But if any of you have a doctor you hate, like or need to find a new one, go check it out!

Are there any other adults out there with braces??
Just had braces put on my crowded teeth on Tuesday.  Feel like I am absolutely the only adult with braces in the world.  Everywhere I look I see 13-year-olds with them, but no one in their 30s  But I guess it's better to look silly for a year and have beautiful teeth in the end than to look silly the rest of my life with crowded teeth, huh??
Wow! $700 is a good rate to go up there.
I can drive to NY and would spend more than $700 in a week. First, ask exactly what is included in the fee and ask the teacher to give you a better answer on the fundraising issue. If no fundraisers are being done, maybe you can offer to run a couple.

I think your plan is a good one. I usually come up with about a third of the cost of my kid's activities. (Only have the 16 yo left at home now.) The rest they earn by working or through fundraisers.

She'll have a great time in NYC!
We cant buy groceries on a cpl pay rate, so I'm trying to come up with one too.
Not really.
Same here bags for adults
And paper for my children (even though my older one hasn't believed in Santa Claus for a few years).
Big problem in adults
I worked at a hospital about 15 years ago where they were diagnosing senior patients for Alzheimer's. Surprisingly, they found that about two-thirds of these patients did not have Alzheimer's, but had learning disabilities and ADD.

ADD has been around as long as humans, but just given a name and attention in the past 2 or 3 decades.

People usually suffer in silence because they think it's just them, that they have a character flaw, etc.

I would speak to your doctor.
They are getting an hourly rate - just $2 is what I tip.

I think it's a shame when adults
cannot put their differences aside for the 2 major holidays a year.
Yes, thanks for the info. At that rate,

we would have to clean ours every month. Taking a shower now is like getting rained on by rocks. We go through a hot water tank every 5 years. Doggonit! Guess I have to wait until we can get either a new well or a water softening system first. <sigh>

Way harsh? Oh come on. We are all adults here.

This is not a out of the blue tragedy.  She sat for two months with lousy paychecks coming in.  Why?  That is her OWN fault.  It would have taken one for me to get movin.

What is wrong with saying get up, get moving and get a job?  What is the alternative?

There is no good in crying over something you CAN fix.  Maybe the OP NEEDS to find strength now and not be babied.

For the love of Pete!

Hang on, though. The rate could have changed...sm

If any payments were late (or missed), the rate could have gone up astronomically for the OP.  They may well have gone up and up.  It's probably in the fine print of the card agreement that that will happen automatically with late payments.

And I have heard financial experts say that it's not a good idea to call and cancel a card if you still have a balance on the card, because then you have no way to negotiate with them.  Though it doesn't sound like any negotiating was able to happen in this case, you're supposed to keep asking for the person's supervisor (and their supervisor, if necessay), and be persistent, until you get to talk to someone who can help you with lowering the rate and maybe waiving some of the fees.

Then I would apply for another card with a lower rate (and make darn sure you don't make any payments late or miss any payments!) and transfer that WA MU balance over (and ask if they can wave the transfer fee when you apply for the new card).

BTW, I recently applied for a credit card with WA MU because the offer was for 0% interest for 15 months on balance transfers, and the person was definitely in India.  Every time I interruped him to ask him a question, it was like he then had to start over reading his "script" but I could understand him.

I asked if he could wave the balance transfer fee, and he said he was unable to do that.  I didn't persist or ask to speak to his supervisor, but I should have.  According to the experts, the time to negotiate is before they have your business.  After they  have you as a customer, they aren't so interested!

Adults need one, too. Imagine how difficult it is
for parents who feel the guilt/burden of knowing they cannot provide a Christmas for their babies. I've been there. I know how it feels.

One of my resolutions for 2007 is to pay a set percentage of my gross income to a dedicated cause locally. I'm not sure yet whether I will work with the light/water company to provide assistance for those on shut-off notices (they seem to have less options than anyone else) or help provide transportation to/from doctor visits for elderly/handicapped individuals, but I am going to do something.

I've known 2 adults that had them, one woman was in her mid-20's sm
and the other was a man who was a corporate salesman for the company I work for. Good luck.
meant "consenting adults." LOL

My property tax rate stays low
because there are so many mansions in my town. There is a house on the market right now for $23 million, plus lots of others in the 5-10 million dollar range. What is really sickening is that these are second or even third homes for some people. But they are paying such high taxes, it really takes the burden off us little guys who live way, way, way on the other side of the tracks.
They are adults and can handle it. After all, this is the tradition
with your husband's family. If they don't want to go, then let them stay home. Surely they were aware this is what your husband's family does on Christmas Eve before inviting themselves to spend the night. Don't ruin family time with your family and your husband's family.
I like to use gift bags for the adults
and wrapping paper for kids. I know there is a lot of wasted paper when you wrap, but something about watching a child rip into a package is so fun.
Would you also want your income taxed at the 40% rate?
At one time England did that.  The friends we had in Cananda said they were taxed to death on their income, but they were pretty pleased with their healthcare.  There is no easy solution.
Teenagers and immature adults
have always thought it was cool to "shock" people. Poor Britney lived for it, and ended up flashing her nether-regions and then completely ran out of ways to shock people ... no wait, that only left shaving her head on camera. < eye roll >

And I would hope adults have more sense than that,
99 out of 100 is unbelievable to me. I find his statement ridiculous for people who are considered grown.
I got a fixed-rate mortage through
They kept my note through the life of the loan and didn't parcel it off to some other lender. I also had a decent down payment saved up which helped a lot.

I get a bit of real-estate sticker shock too when I see what friends and family have paid for their homes in other parts of the country.

I purchased my home for $86,000. The original asking price was substantially higher, but it sat on the market for quite a while and they had lowered the asking a few times. I think they were just glad to finally get it sold. I have 1600 sq. ft, 3 bedrooms, 1-1/2 baths, dining room, living room, and partial basement. It was built in the mid 70s, so the rooms are not too small like some of the older homes. But it is not as spacious as the open floor designs that are popular today.

1 In 5 Adults Uses Pool As Toilet
Officials: Swallowing Urine-Contaminated Water Isn't Harmful

PHOENIX -- A new study by the Water Quality and Health Council found that nearly one in five adults admits to urinating in a swimming pool instead of using the toilet.

Eight in 10 adults are convinced their fellow swimmers are guilty of such a crime, the study said.

Nevertheless, health officials insist that swimming in and even swallowing urine-contaminated water isn't harmful to someone's health.

"Urine in itself has been purified through a whole variety of bodily processes so that it's removed a lot of the contaminants in it," said Don Herrington from the Arizona Health Department.

Swimmers should be more concerned about swallowing parasites than swallowing urine, officials said.

Last summer, dozens of swimmers in the Phoenix area got sick from pool water, forcing the closure of all 29 Phoenix city pools.

The parasite which caused the illnesses, Cryptosporidium, comes from diarrhea.

Phoenix Parks and Recreation spokeswoman Amy Blakeney urged sick swimmers to stay out of the pool.

"People who are sick need to stay home and remain at home for 14 days after they're symptom-free, especially if they have diarrhea," Blakeney said.

Though city pools electronically monitor chlorine levels, the city of Phoenix has begun to require swimmers to shower before they jump in the pool as an extra precaution.

"Taking a shower allows those materials to rinse off and go down as sewage, and then gets a clean body into the pool water, which is what we all want," Blakeney said.

What? Gays are not allowed to have fun? SM
Is Disney World or whatever only for heteros?  Sad.
Are we not allowed to say the D word or something?
lol! Even the new pizza hut commercial disses both Domino's and Papa Johns - have you seen it? Hysterical. Have to say that Pizza Hut does take the prize for best pizza, hands down IMO.
As far as I know, doctors are allowed to do this
in certain states, but they still need the approval of the nearest relatives.
They do this if somebody is terminally ill and the patient himself expresses the wish that their life should be ended.

The recommended starting dosage for adults is 25 mg (sm)
3 to 4 x daily with a maximum of 150 mg daily.  The medication is prescribed for depression, but with alot of those antidepressants, they are also prescribed for their sedative effect, and thus also prescribed for insomnia.  Pamelor has been around a long time, and in my last 10 years of transcribing, don't recall any physician prescribing it as a sleep aid.  The usual standard now seems to be trazodone, starting dose 50, but may increase in increments of 50 mg up a max of 300.  I am not questioning your doctor's reasoning for prescribing this, I just find it unusual.  I would not be concerned about increasing the dose you are taking.  Most medications, in order to cause deliterious and life-threating potential, need to be taken 30x the normal prescribing dose.  Hope you feel better.
I know they told me 50 and I collect now at the same rate I collected
after his death when the children were little. However, I was 49 when the youngest turned 16, so I had to wait 1 year to re-collect. The laws may have changed since her situation, but I know this is true for me and I have no other extenuating (?) circumstances.
We are talking about a 5-y/o here not grown wacko adults - sm
so it is not a diaper fetish. Odds are the child is looking for attention and as stated in numerous posts wants to be the baby again and have all the attention. If the mom can, she needs to spend some 1:1 time with her 5-y/o, maybe at bedtime, story reading, or just talking, or take him down to the corner store and leave the younger one at home with dad, etc. Anything really, just spent 15-30 minutes a day that is his time with him mom alone. I wouldn't get freaked about it. I have 2 girls and the one loves to play with her nipples and stroke her tummy. She is 7 and just exploring sensation at this point. I told her it is okay to do but in private, not in public. I am not making a big issue out of it; not that it is a big issue to begin with.

Yes, thanks for posting this! I did not realize that domestic rates apply (8.95) when shipping to FPO and APO. Awesome!
hold on....letting adults paddle my kid?

I agree. Aren't you married adults?...
This is your husband, not your father. Having been in a relationship something like this in the very distant past I can tell you that you need to get rid of this jerk. Why do women put up with this garbage from their husbands or boyfriends? What advice would you give to a daughter or friend if she was in the same situation?
We're talking about kids; not adults.

I banned any gift giving between adults
when my husband and I got married. I will get my SIL and BIL something, but only because they have 6 small children and they always NEED something. Otherwise, Christmas is for the kids, period, plain and simple. Since I made that rule (when we had 6 small ones ourselves) his sisters refuse to come for Christmas dinner which I think is silly, but whatever. Christmas should not be all about gift giving anyway.
I'm pretty sure it is allowed - my mom is retired but (sm)
She is still on my stepfather's insurance and not Medicare. I don't think it is required at all. You may be able to use it as secondary, though, I don't know. http://questions.medicare.gov/cgi-bin/medicare.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?
As an IC, I don't think they are allowed to have you on a set schedule. Other companies have
gotten in legal trouble because they were treating ICs as employees. With my IC job, I let them know when I can work and, if they need extra help, they will call and ask if I can do more, but they do not TELL me when to work.
She ALLOWED it to happen. She signed for it.
She's no saint nor even a decent parent to not stand up for her child.

What a bunch of crap.

Mine were not allowed to come to my house as much
as the other grandparents because they wanted to (at a very young age) go directly to my work room with all the wires running all over the floor, computers that belonged to the hospital, not my equipment and their mother got bent out of shape that I tried to keep them out of that particular room, telling me they could do anything at her mother's house, hello guess so her mother never even had a job and had plenty of time to run after them and clean up behind them. This can go either way!!
Even worse, The child is allowed to have sex with

Should he be allowed to keep the Bible on his desk?
Apparently, it's just sitting there. He's not teaching from it.

A Mount Vernon science teacher said yesterday that he will refuse to remove a Bible from his classroom desk, despite his school district's order.

"Thousands of citizens in this community have built their lives on deeply held religious convictions, and it is for them that I stand today," John Freshwater, 51, who teaches at Mount Vernon Middle School, said in a news release.

The religious activist Dave Daubenmire, Freshwater's friend, acted as his spokesman yesterday. "This is not a religion issue; this is a free-speech issue," Daubenmire said. "He didn't take the Bible to read to anybody."

Mount Vernon Superintendent Steve Short said Freshwater's characterization of the events leading to the district order that he remove religious items from his classroom was "not entirely accurate," but Short wouldn't elaborate.

The district later released a one-paragraph statement saying that district officials don't oppose religion but are required "under the First Amendment of the United States Constitution to protect against the establishment of religion in the schools. As a public school system the district cannot teach, promote or favor any religion or religious beliefs."

Freshwater and Daubenmire believe that separation of church and state "is a fraud" and that the framers of the Constitution never intended it to be practiced the way it is today, Daubenmire said.

The district asked Freshwater last week to remove the Ten Commandments from the door to his classroom and remove the Bible from the view of students. About 3,900 students attend Mount Vernon schools. Mount Vernon is about 52 miles northeast of Columbus.

Freshwater took down the Ten Commandments but decided that being prevented from taking a Bible into the classroom was going too far.

In the past, Freshwater has taught his students about the "holes in evolution" and intelligent design, the theory that a supernatural power created complex forms of life, Daubenmire said.

"Would our government ask a follower of Islam to remove her burqa in order to teach school?" Freshwater said in his written statement. "Would we ask a science teacher to remove The Origin of Species from his desk merely because the origin of man has never been proven?

"I cannot with a clear conscience follow a directive that makes religion and the religious viewpoint any less credible by those who deem themselves more enlightened."

Freshwater wouldn't answer questions directly because of the likelihood he will file a lawsuit charging "viewpoint discrimination," Daubenmire said.

Daubenmire is the former London High School football coach whose district was sued in 1999 by the American Civil Liberties Union because he led his players in prayer at games, practices and meetings. The district settled out of court, and its insurance company paid the ACLU $18,000 for court costs.

no letter p was allowed on this street
When my dd was first learning her alphabet we were driving down the street
one day and she asks me why no letter p was allowed on this street. It took me a minute to realize she was talking about a no parking sign.
I suppose I related to the rate of capital punishments

I was allowed to have guy friends stay overnight BUT -sm
they could not sleep in my room with me. They were welcome to crash on the couch. My parents knew I was having sex with them but it was their house and their rules. I never really had a problem with it and plan to do the same with my 2 girls.
Animals not allowed to roam where we live
by the rules in our community and my cats are indoor ALWAYS - that does not mean others keep theirs in. I tried to rescue a squirrel the cat next door caught in front of my home so they would turn the squirrel loose and the other day a Great Dane (apparently in heat) came into my yard and then the dog next door came over to try to romance that one. I really, really hate to see animals out anywhere - oh the other day was told we have coyates (sp?) in the neighborhood and be sure not to let animals out- 1 lady found only tufts of hair and collar from cat apparently killed them them. I usually am trying to feed strays when I see them.
Not allowed to swim at Disney "beaches" though
They have little man-made beaches at some of the resorts, but you are not allowed to swim in the water. Stayed at several places at Disney... Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Caribbean Beach, Coronado, Dixie Landings, Dolphin/Swan... and it's the same at all. You can play in the sand, but you have to use the pools.
they are not allowed in miami-dade county

Pit bulls are either not allowed in Miami-Dade County in Florida but I heard something about having $600,000 insurance if you own one.....but that COULD be Broward County where they are allowed.  I'm in Miami.

If I allowed my daughter to have a live in boyfriend I would at least
have put her on Depo. What did she think was gonna happen?

p.s.--he's NINTEEN!!
