I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about 3 years ago. Knew no one with it and really never imaged I had this. Since then have been on a quest to get help for this, through rheumatologists, orthopedics, family practice, neurologists, no one has really helped with the severe pain. The pain is everyday but some days horrific. Of course would like to be entirely without pain but I would settle for just the edge taken off of the severe pain. Last ditch effort- called local pain clinic (of course I have known about pain clinics for years but always trying something else) and asked up front do the physicians treat fibromyalgia, told yes and have waited about 4 weeks, went in today and you guess it, the physician treating me does not believe really in it. Heck, if you give me another diagnosis and treat my pain, then I will believe in your diagnosis, don’t care, just want assistance. I could read his face when I told him about the diagnosis and I asked point blank- you don’t really believe in that diagnosis do you? When he asked about where the pain mostly - told him ribs - he asked where- front and back I told him and then said no, couldn’t be. I told him unless referred pain it is the ribs, gosh like I don’t know where my ribs are- I can still feel them although on the chunky side. He gave my prescription for Lyrica and Flexeril (he said did not believe bone pain) so know his reasoning behind the Flexeril. I guess I no longer know where or how to seek or halfway do my own medical program. I am tired of trying and never really getting the assistance I need. I have done physical therapy, water therapy, don’t want to be zonked because I need to have clear mind for working. I am really disappointed in the so called physicians we have now. Any thoughts at all on this, fellow MTers?
