BTW, the company I advise you

Posted By: Misha on 2007-11-30
In Reply to: Nope. That's more than an hour's work - Misha

to avoid is

The Cleaning Authority.

They have a rigid schedule they refuse to deviate from, they mark up your walls with their tools, and they break furniture. They don't know how to properly clean a laminate floor or sinks. You have different workers each time, so tipping well makes no difference in the job they do. Complete waste of money, no matter how many times you meet with the supervisor.

I would advise this -
Do you have some place in town that can handle picture conservation, like a museum, that kind of thing? You might even try calling photo devlopers or photographers to see what they recommend. Sometimes they can work miracles. I had an old picture restored from the 1800s that had a water stain on it. When they had finished I could hardly tell. Yours do sound worse than mine was, however. Good luck to you! :-)
Advise for my dog!
Help!  My 11 year lhasa-poo (light of my life of course!) has a torn anterior cruciate ligament of the back leg.   He cannot put any weight on it.  Surgery which is not that successful on an older dog is $10,000!  SO!   Anyone have experience or tips about this?   I can hardly function  for worrying about my Simon!  Thanks to all, Ginny
Some advise from one who has been there
In earlier years I thought I could not afford insurance, young like her with 1 child then. Worked at hospital and worked on outside basis for other doctors transcribing. son in accident, needd orthopedic surgery, 2 admits to the hospital. The hospital made deductions, the surgeon did as freebie as I had no money. What would have happened if not working at those 2 places? After then got insurance and had ever since - over 30 years without letting it drop. I learned my lesson and it could have been a very expensive one.
advise
ok, what would you do? Took a MT job outside home, quit home MT job, worked 1 week 1 day, got let go yesterday. Employment agency never told supervisor that I had vacation planned and paid for for 1 week end of February. I told her on Friday and she was furious and said "I never would have gone along with that".  Then I was let go, after a full day's work, on Monday. Agency called me 6:00 last night to tell me. They said the reason was "things were not getting fixed that needed to be fixed". Have no idea what they mean. After only 2 days training was put by myself to work. Never, ever told by anyone about quality of my work, I don't think it was ever checked. I now have a closet of new clothes & shoes.  I am so angry and my self-esteem is in the toilet.  Have been an MT for over 20 years and now my confidence is shattered.   What do you guys think I should do?  Please help this tired old lady.
Sclerotherapy advise

Anybody ever have treatment for spider veins with sclerotherapy? and what has been your experience.

I am strongly considering it.  I have tried the creams and they do not work.  I have a big patch on the upper inner part of my thigh. It just looks gross.

I also have broken capillaries on my face.  Any suggestions other than laser therapy or even sclerotherapy?  I am a bit nervous about doing that to my face.  Thanks.

I can't advise but can commiserate

My husband got rear-ended on the job three years ago, is still having pain and numbness in his back and leg.  The company he worked for didn't file for Worker's Comp or even fill out an incident report, which we didn't find out until his bills weren't getting paid.  We got a lawyer, who is useless. They finally got going on the Worker's Comp but now they've stopped paying again - he's getting his Lyrica through Pfizer's patient care plan because we have no insurance and WC won't pay.  Any phone calls get redirected when he calls WC insurance carrier.  He's pretty much resigned to living in pain the rest of his life.  I don't know how people can cheat and get away with it when he can be legitimately hurt and not get any help at all!

my advise (for whatever its worth)
dont raise him anymore, stop today. if it is something you dont want to do, then dont do it. if he doesnt want to be responsible for the bills, then let bill collectors call, whatever the case may be. find something for yourself. that is what i have had to do. sometimes i forget, but im much much better when i do. i take a walk in the morning all by myself. i rearrange the furniture (okay im weird) lol, he hates that, but i dont care, it makes me happy. we are not here to MAKE SURE they are happy. they can either be happy with the person you are inside or hit the pavement. i know you will make the right choices. also too, i had to stop talking to my family about him because at this point, they hate him, and want me to leave. i am an adult and i have to make my own choice, and i pray it works (and works functionally) for us.

btw, his mother has OCD, she cleaned his whole childhood. she has a hugely dysfunctional relationship with her mother, and did have with her daugher, who is an alcoholic. she is very selfish, and is just generally miserable. she is a christian, but is the kind that has all the right things to say, but doesnt act on any of them. analyzing her helps me to see why my husband is like he is.
You want advice, not advise
NM
Good advise
No need to tell him too far in advance. Overall he's a good man. I'm not making excuses for him but we do laugh a lot (like every day we are horsing around). We don't really fight all that much. I'd say overall we have a good marriage, but he just gets in these moods sometimes. I often wonder if he's going through mid life crisis but don't know. The issue of him working and where we are going to live is a whole nother story because he could decide on one thing and then the next day its something else. Last weekend he was getting ready to tell me what he wanted to do but before he did he mowed the lawn and when he came back in he had told me he changed his mind. I laughed and said that's why I told him to wait and mow the lawn first before telling me what his thoughts are. HA HA. What really doesn't help matters is all this blasted news about the polygamy people in Texas because my sister is a Mormon. HA HA HA Oh well...like you say, i'll wait. My sister and I were talking bout maybe July. I'll definitely keep you posted as to how it goes.
Simple advise...(sm)

Review all available material to you and go by what makes sense.  I like to read and have recently started a study that will compare religions as well as athieism.  As well, I think the huge contributor to all religions and non-religions is the state of being at the times of change.  For example, when the Bible was put together, there seemingly were several books left out.  Of particular interest to me is the book of Mary.  My question there is why was it left out.  At that time women did not have the ability to speak their minds as they do now.  Is that why it was left out?  If so, was there something important in there that all christians should know?  If so, where does that leave christians now?  Yep...there are tons and tons of questions, and I don't believe you will get all your answers out of just one source.

There are also questions about athieism, like where and how did everything begin?  You can find a ton of sources about how things evolved, but not so much on where it began.

Read, look deeper than just the words, and trust your instincts.

Anyone gluten-free who could advise me? (sm)
Would love to talk to someone who has gone gluten-free and see what your symptoms were, what you are able to eat, and what your results were.  I think this may be my problem.  Thanks so much!
thanks for the advise, you say some very smart things - sm
though I am really not sure about the in person thing. I am serious about trying not to be killed in this, he has threatened to kill me before over some really stupid stuff (and we have a lot of guns in this house), and as this is a major thing, and he has been through this with me before....just before we married I was $12K in the hole. I paid it all off though within weeks of the wedding and we were debt-free for about 7 years (except for mortgage). He has told me before if he ever kills me, he will kill himself too....not that this is any solace to me as I really want to live. Generally he is full of hot air, but you never know what will send a person over the edge and I think this debt may be what does it for him. There are a number of extenuating circumstances that caused the debt, it was not me alone of course. He likes to spend as he pleases and I do try to stop him as much as I can but sometimes it is not possible (unless I drop the bomb of course), family illnesses, we did private school for a while too which did not help, and just got a new used car....which we owe his parent $10K for which I am paying them $500 a month for as well which is really putting a crimp on things...but he insisted we had to get rid of my reliable truck for better gas mileage....the new car has needed $800 in repairs so far in 4 months which is just wonderful. When I do drop the bomb, probably in the next month or so, I may try to farm the kids out to friends houses then give him a letter with all the dirty details and the possible solutions. I think having it all down in writing will help some. I know there will be tears on both sides, and my stress level will plummet once it is off my chest. I notice my skin problems act up when we are short on cash, then clear when we get a paycheck. I am sure my BP is jumping about and I cannot lose weight no matter how hard I try too, though I think that is a mechanism to keep him away from me as much as possible. Needless to say it is a total mess.
I don't understand how people can advise
to stay in a marriage when you stated you are not happy, you want out and you do not love him. Why stay in this marriage? You know the answer and you do not need validation or feel bad because you want out. There is nothing worse than having to wake up and go to bed with a person you do not love. Life is to short to stay in a loveless marriage. Be good to yourself and be happy. Why have regrets when you are older.
They usually advise Motrin and Tylenol for pain. sm
I see a lot of this in ER work, and they are never really concerned.  Only the pt is concerned and in pain.  Take some otc pain meds and it should go away soon.
I tried a big company, but
I didn't like the rigidity of their plan. You want somebody who is flexible in the cleaning rotation if they rotate their area of concentration. I mean, this company wanted to waste a clean by detailing my office and bedroom and laundry area. Nobody sees those areas, so if I have company coming over, attention needs to be paid to the areas we'll be using, you know? But they had to follow their national plan.

Plus, DH and I didn't appreciate having to spend every other day off preparing for them to come. Some days you want to spend in the yard and let the house go, but when somebody is coming to clean, you need to have picked up so they can vacuum and wipe counters, etc.
Which company did you use? NM
x
I went with a company...sm
We went with InCharge. The credit cards were out of hand and I was fed up. It took 1-2 months to get everything set up. We pay them $40 a month for their service, but the interest rates were knocked down to 6% so we are still saving bunches of money. We have have all the credit cards paid off in 2 more years. As for working out something with the credit card companies directly, they would not work with us so this is the route we went. Do not regret it at all.
Which company has this.
:
unwanted company
Ditto -- Just don't answer the door.  We moved to the country to get away from that sort of thing and it still happens.  I hate it too.
Just because a company offers 8....
Just because a company offers 8 cpl doesn't mean they won't up that for experience. I was offered 8 and said no and now I get 10 cpl.
For what company? See, that's the thing - I
have tested for numerous companies, and passed with flying colors, then when it comes down to the job offer, they offer me about what I am making now.  That is why I would like to just know what companies out there are paying 10 cpl so I can just bypass all the ones that offer low pay; otherwise, I just see myself wasting my time, taking all these tests and in the end being offered no more than what I'm getting now.  Can anyone out there who makes 10 cpl tell me what company they work for?
misery and company
I'm not glad that you all suffer too, but a little relieved.  Mine is a little like an electrical hum - white noise came to mind for me also.  I wonder if computer error tones started mine as it happened right after I had a series of bad dictations where I turned the volume up really high and then when I hit something wrong I got a very loud tone - someone has since told me how to change it to a more tolerable sound.
Actually, I worked for a PC company
a long time ago supervising the commercial aspect. They always tell you that, but they can and do die in walls. We were sent out many times to cut them out after people insisted on using poison.

The best advice that I can offer is that once you get rid of them, you seal off any areas where they can get back in. If you don't do that, then you will continue to have problems.

Now rats instead of mice, I don't know what to tell you to do if they are eating through the walls!

Me personally though, I had a rat as a pet. In fact, we had to put her to sleep about a month ago.
Maybe you should contact the company...
nm
The big company I used was awful.
Different people every time and they used a special schedule they could not alter when I had a special request. An individual would be more flexible, but make sure they are bonded and paying taxes so you don't run into trouble with the IRS.
Would it be possible to ask the phone company--sm
to come out and inspect your line? I don't see where a lawyer would be any good at this point, until something is either proven or disproven. Good luck.
Can't Garnish a Company
You can't "garnish" a company. Garnishment only works with an employer willing to work you court to fork over money from an "employee." You're talking about a company (is it incorporated?) If you didn't go to small claims already, that's your only (best) way out. That way, the company rep MUST show up in court to answer your claim, or offer a settlement. Unless you do some strong-armed persuasion through the local press and exposing the outfit any way you can I don't see any other way out. Also, in our county it's more like $50 to file the complaint, but you can recoup that from the debtor as part of the settlement. And, don't let the small claims court clerk tell you that you need an attorney. You don't--unless you want one. They clerk is duty-bound by their oath to assist citizens in filing their own documents. They can't give you legal advice, but they can and should make sure your paperwork is okay to file the claim. Also, you can always check in with the state attorney general. They could probably work with this as a fraud case and you might have some recourse there. Also, your state--secretary of state for your state would have information on the legalities of this company, which also if you filed a claim in Small Claims Court you could subpoena documents from the company directly to find out their bank, accounting records, etc. Good luck again.
They are all one company , and out of Grenada. sm
illegal in a lot of states.
All I can say is...me too!!! At least you have company in your misery!! (nm)

How about either you or her working for a company .....sm
that offers tuition reimbursement. My brother and sister obtained their degrees this way. It took a lot longer since they both had to work full-time but the education was free.

Some companies offer tuition reimbursement for their employees and immediate family. Might have to do your research but certainly worth it.

I think the only thing is the student would have to pass the class otherwise the company sends you the tuition bill.
This company seems very sketchy....SM
There is no way I would ever accept this type of job, no matter how desperate I was. No decent company does this to a person. It's like throwing a goldfish in with a bunch of sharks. I would strongly advise him against this.
CUSTODY not company LOL

we had a local company that came out to
maybe you just had a bad customer service rep?

Well, because the company that has me on file is local, all I can do is sm
forward you to this legitimate website http://www.volition.com/mysteryUSA1.html

You will have to do a lot of legwork and contact the BBB, but it's worth it. Some are national, some are local. I am in south GA. So unless you are local, I can only forward you to this website. Good luck!
finding a new mortgage company...sm
Is at the top of my agenda for this year, but it was the plan all along to refinance this year anyway, so...thanks for the support y'all!
Thanks. I am total IC and work for one company..sm
and I have worked for them for 3 years. I do have a FED ID #, as my employer requested that I have one when I first started. Hence, I also have a business name, but I file under my SS# and my personal name, not my business. I thought maybe that would make a difference. I still have the letter, as I keep all of that stuff *just in case.* I know that being an IC, we are *suppose* to file quarterly and I did read somewhere that there may be fines involved if you don't, so I did not think too much about it when it happened. I file in April and everything is in their officed prior to the 15th, so that could not be a reason why the fine, either. Needless to say, I am confused. Maybe I will seek out an accountant this year and leave all that stuff in their hands. It is getting to be a drag and too time consuming for me anyway. just trying to save a buck, even though I know it is deductible. thanks for answering me. I appreciate it.
just me, does that company have a website? If so, would you post it please?

The pharmaceutical company that makes it (sm)
will often offer assistance - go to their web site and check it out. Also Ameriplan, but you would have to check that out too as I am nto sure how much it helps.
Try the company that makes the drug.
We got on a plan for my son through the company and he gets his meds free (Concerta) for at least the next year.
Depending on the phone company, you can..sm
block all extras being charged on a child's phone.  When my daughter was in high school, I turned off text messages and all media.  Now my youngest son has text only because I now have a family package deal but he is blocked from downloading anything else.
Yes, specifically on my company email.

You need to move to a socialist company because that is what you are. Unfortunately, you sm
live in America where we all have the RIGHT to earn a living. You don't have a RIGHT to my or my husband's hard earned money. We put ourselves through college and if we make a million dollars a year YOU are not entitled to that money if you were poor. That is NOT a just society.

I grew up in the slums. I was told I would never amount to anything. I defied all odds. Went to college, made something for myself, married a college graduate and we are living comfortably. Anyone can do it. I get very ill when I hear of these "entitlement" speeches about how people like YOU think that my money should go to others in society. Give me a break. It's people like you who really don't amount to much because you just rely on others to pay your way. So sad.

you may wish to consult with your insurance company...sm

to find out how high your insurance is going to leap...she's underage and can't get her own until 18.  Perhaps she can pay the difference, but it's gonna be steep.  And with all her activities, where will she find the time to squeeze in a job?

In the state we live in you must have a licensed driver over 21 with anyone under 18 who has a learner's  permit for 6 months before they can even take the actual driving test.  Once they got their license then they had to go to a driving class mandated by the state...(under 18 driver's ed at school didn't count)...provided by dept of transportation taught by a police officer in the courthouse and saw a lot of graphic accident films.

It's scarey out there and at 16 or in some cases even 18 they don't have enough practical knowledge or experience to safely negotiate the freeway or interstates (and don't you think they're not gonna go once you hand them the keys) or steer out of the way of an oncoming wreck or even think about hitting a patch of black ice or hydroplaning.  They're too excited.

That's where you come in.  Teach her as much as you can before you let her drive.    Cat

Maybe Lee owns the company and she thinks

she is PERFECT?  Who cares!

Anyone ever use a debt settlement company - sm
like DebtAmerica or something like that, one that eliminates 30% or more of your balance owed, consolidates it and gets each cc to settle on an agreed amount, etc.  I am thinking of going that route instead of CCCS company which is just a DMP (consolidates it but you still pay back every penny and interest).  Either way you have a big black mark on your credit.  I owe a substantial amount and this way I can probably be debt-free in 3-4 years instead of 8 years. I know they charge a fee, and you have to pay taxes on the settled amount but it will be a lot cheaper for me in the long run and I can afford it a lot better.  So if anyone has gone this route, please give me your input and who you used and if you were happy with their service, etc.  TIA!

Misery Loves Company

Who has rubbed your nose in it that is now effected by the economic crisis?

For me...

Investment broker - not much call for stocks these days

Mortgage broker - self-explanatory

Realtor - again.....

All of these people were filthy rich and looked down on me, the lowly transcriptionist, who worked at home, who "really did not work", and look at them now.

I am the richest woman I know...which is not saying much.

Talk to your phone company

There is a way to do it.

There are several options here for you, the way I see it.

The cheapest way is you could get an old style answering machine and screen your calls. Annoying, but effective.  If you don't want to go that route, talk to your carrier about their custom calling options.  There should be a service called "call screen" that allows you to block selected numbers and routs them to a message that says you will not take the call.  A caller ID box will also let you know who is calling and that's something else you have to make arrangements for your local carrier with, as there is a fee with that.

Good luck.  From what you have said about your dad, I get the feeling that if he doesn't get you on the phone he'll show up at your door, so you probably should be prepared for that from him.
