oops - baby shower - wrong shower!
Sorry, tired eyes here. The thank you notes envelopes might stand and you could make a puzzle with baby words.
Baby shower gift or shower

Anyone have some creative or unique baby shower gift ideas or shower ideas?  or what is something that you couldn't live without when you had your baby.

I have heard of giving a book instead of a card and signing the book.  Also heard of wrapping the present in a blanket or crib sheet instead of spending money on paper to throw away.  I have heard of charging an "admission fee" of a package or diapers or 1 package of diapers buys a raffle ticket for a prize.

Sorry, that's "warm bath" but arm bath is okay too LOL
Hope you do well, I'm thinking of you!

question about nickel in earrings
So I've always had a nickel allergy and have to wear hypoallergenic earrings. Lately my sterling silver earrings are bothering my ears and driving me nuts! I don't want to put nail polish on the posts because that just doesn't sit right with me, but is there something OTC I can try other than that? I hate to get rid of all my earrings!

My friend had a pair and LOVED them!

They were like her children, as all pets can become.  They did have a smell, but I don't think it was any worse than say rabbits or even hampsters...just different.  Kinda skunky but kinda not.  Both did sadly die fairly young, however, of kidney disease, which I guess is pretty common among them as a species.  This lady was absolutely heartbroken, but she was right back out there looking for a new pair last time I saw her.

They had a massive cage with these hammock things and were always snoozing when I saw them, but I guess they spent a good deal of time outside the cage, running around the house, doing whatever it is they did.

If they make you happy, go for it!

I broke down and got a pair of dedicated....

single-vision computer glasses.  HUGE difference.  They definitely aren't pretty because I wanted to keep the cost as low as I could, but my headaches are all but gone now thanks to them.

My other pair of glasses are bifocals, which I can use for work in a pinch like if I lost my computer glasses, but what happens is I wind up tilting my head too much to use the teeny bifocal part to see the monitor, which in turn causes headaches from muscle strain.

To save a TON off glasses, take your prescription and get them at a wholesale place like Sam's Club.

Good luck!

Bungalow. (you say what you like, then give another pair).

Maybe with a pair of plyers and a pick-up truck?

No, but I do have a new pair of shoes I've been wearing a lot (sm)
I was kind of wondering if they might have caused it. I think I will just stop wearing them and see what happens.

Thank you
red tailed hawk and a pair of blue herons..sm

were the most facinating to me, very majestic...the wingspan on the herons is gigatic! We also have seen a family of wild turkeys recently and always cardinals here in KY.  When I lived on the south shore of Long Island in NY there sandpipers, terns and egrets and one winter there was a snowy white owl (like on the old cigar boxes).  The seagulls get a little loud though.  The birds are a real pleasure...

Can't wait till spring!  Cat

Um, with the economy in shambles, I kinda have a problem with her wearing a pair of $500 shoes!
Her hubbie talks about Americans become financially responsible and she's walking around in a pair of sneakers that would cover my rent!
I have seen them at Bed, Bath, and Beyond....
or it may be Linens and Things in your area.
What do you use to bath him? - sm
My min-pin was always itching and scratching and rubbing on anything he could. Then the vet told me to use baby shampoo on him, and it worked. Plus I only bath him like every other month or so. Gets a little stinky, but I love him anyways. I don't usually give him a bath until his coat starts to look not so shiny. Seems to have worked so far.
Not until after his bath, LOL.
He just came out of the shelter and I can hardly wait for him to be clean.

But oh does he appreciate belly scritches.

He is such a good boy.
LOL the bath tub
I JUST thought of doing that. I'm sitting here telling myself my husband will think I have completely lost it if he comes home to see I have filled every empty jug in the house with water and the bath tub!!! lol I'm doing it anyway. Glad I'm not the only one to think of that.

We are also in MI. I keep thinking back to the other ice storm we had a few years back and the blackout where there was no gasoline or anything. Scary stuff but I would just like to try to prepare this time around if I can. As soon as I finish up here I'm working off your list. Some really great ideas to catch up laundry, charging batteries, etc. Thanks!
Have you tried a cool bath. sm
I have also heard rubbing the child down with alcohol helps.  Prayers going up for your baby.

Bath and Body sm
My DH got me some B/B red leather collection stuff, makeup bag, manicure/pedicure set (awesome) and a little purse which came with Moonlight Path shower gel and body lotion. I already had the overnight bag and the tote. I just can't get enough of that red - I'm a bling, bling girl all the way!!!
Bath and teeth

Maybe it's the toothpaste.  Some of it tastes yucky to a kid or the mint may be too strong or brushing could be irritating his gums.  Let him pick a child's toothpaste and soft toothbrush and see if that helps.  As for baths,  I had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the tub.  What mom didn't know was that my older sister kept sneaking in and pulling the plug, telling me I was going to go down the drain. She said if I told mom she would call the adoption agency and tell them to take me back (I wasn't adopted, but at age 4 I didn't know that).  Maybe he saw something on TV that scared him.   Some shows are pretty graphic (news too). I recall one show where a lady was brushing her teeth and blood started pouring from the faucet. Try letting him sit in a dry tub with a bucket of water for a sponge bath.  Sit down and talk with the kid (not talk to) and assure him/her that if there is something going on you can help.

Why did they say your dog needed a bath?
I just throw my collie mix outside when it rains and maybe take him to the groomer 2 or 3 times a year. If he was rolling around in mud and dead animals, that would be different.
How did an innocent bubble bath
This discussion the strangest thing I have ever heard in my life!  My husband uses body butter from Bath and Body Works, but he's not gay, and he is very, very masculine.  He just has dry skin and cares about his appearance.  I'd prefer clean and fresh, then nasty, stinky, unkempt with dirty fingernails.  I don't think there is anything wrong with a man caring about his appearance.  To each his own I guess.
I like the ones from Bath and Body called
socks to sleep in. They are so soft and so warm. My feet are also constantly freezing. I wear slippers all winter long. I have some, the brand is "old Friend" and they are leather with sheep skin in them. Your feet do not get sweaty, just toasty warm. I go through a pair every year because I wear them until it is about 70 degrees outside.
I haven't tried the cool bath or the compresses yet.
I will try those and see if it helps to break the fever.  Thanks so much for the replys.
Buy one of those bathtubs and fill them up with bath toys sm
and baby towels, washcloths, Johnson & Johnson stuff, etc.

Or buy one of those dishwashwer tubs that fit into the dishwasher that holds nipples, pacifiers, etc and wrap that up in a baby bath towel with a big bow on it.
Get a basket and fill it up with onesies, socks, kits that include medicines, etc.

I love going to baby showers and creating unique gifts!

If you have a bath and body works locally, try...sm
their shower gels and body butter in whatever fragrance you prefer.  I too have such dry skin that it cracks and bleeds, especially on my hands and feet.  I can write on the skin on my arms and legs it gets so dry, and my face looks like a road map if I don't moisturize.  I also have very sensitive skin, but the perfumes they use don't seem to bother my skin.  I use the Neutragena Wave foaming cleansing pads on my face and then use the body butter.  Also try not to take really hot showers, the heat is very hard on the skin, and make sure you pat dry, not rub as that tears the skin.  Apply the body butter first thing in the morning, right out of the shower and again right before you go to bed.  That may seem like a lot, but it does not take much of the body butter.  I use it usually about 3 times a day, sometimes more on my hands, and mine still lasts quite a while.
Throwing out the baby with the bath water
It seems somehow kinda wrong to determine that the health care is good enough for our military but I sure as heck don't want it for me. It's like those situations where instead of increasing standards all around to make something to be proud of, you lower the standards to the least common denominator. There is no reason not to use the military system and fix what's wrong with it rather than determine that it won't work. My girls were delivered in naval hospital, had surgery in naval hospitals, saw Navy doctors, etc., etc. The care my family received through them in wait times, time spent with patient, treatment, etc., was no worse than it was when we belonged to Kaiser years later.
I wasn’t clear enough, I meant when others bath your furkids

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. LOL. I get that from Bath and Body Works. sm
Seems like the minute I run out of a fave scent and go to get more, it has been discontinued. I think it is a conspiracy by Bath and Body works. LOL.
shower...(OP)

Thanks y'all for all the great replies...apparently I am not alone in my feelings here!

Anyway, as I mentioned, this is my DH's family...the ultimate shower-givers.  They give a shower for every baby (in my family, it's 1st baby only...unless--like mine--they're 8 years apart), every wedding, new home purchase...anything you can think of.  BUT...the kicker is...if I don't show up to this thing, next year when my DD graduates and I have her grad party, they WON'T show up...that's just the way they are. So, I'm thinking of taking a "vacation" that weekend and just mailing a card with my "greenbacks"---BTW, love the fake money idea---after all, that's all she really wants, right?

Ah, families---aren't they just WONDERFUL---

Think what you need are called deep pocket sheets. Try Linens n Things, Bed and Bath, JCP. nm

Shower curtain or not?
I have a bathroom that goes off my office and really not used but having a dinner later on and I do not have a shower curtain here. I had the bathroom painted and did not want to get a rod that would have to be on the painted part as afraid it would pull my paint off if removed. The shower/tub is a wrap around and being as I do not have another shower curtain in the house (enclosed showers) wondering if anyone can tell me, does the rod fit on the shower part or would it fit outside, that being on the painted part. I hope this makes sense. Any suggestions?
Wedding shower...
My niece is getting married in August and is having a shower in July.  Long story short, they live together, have been for a looonnnggg time now.  On the invite, it says "Money preferred" with a bunch of $$$ around it.  They're calling it a "greenback shower"...Is it just me, or is this totally disgusting and greedy? Makes me not wanna go.  Also, I am not even sure how much to give.  We never see them, only at family functions (DH's family.....)...anyway, is it just me that feels this way?
wedding shower
I agree. I think they have a lot of nerve expecting guests to "finance" their life together. Are they getting married after so long just to make some bucks? Or are you supposed to help offset the cost of this wedding? Are they registered? I'd give her a gift (if that's what you'd prefer). If you feel you have to give money, I'd probably stay in the $25.00 range or whatever you feel comfortable giving. Of course, you could always make an excuse and not go. After all, they'll probably want money as a wedding gift also!
Good for you! I think a hot shower sometimes can
do wonders. I know what you mean about the flashing in the field of vision. My mom and I get that, too. She describes it as zig-zaggy lines. I only had that about 3 times, but was at the mall and was trying to read a price tag and could not understand why everything started to look wierd. You are right. . the headache came later. My mom said if she took something the minute she saw the flashing, etc. she was okay, but it she waited too long she got a terrible headache.  I am glad you avoid that one!
shower head
I'm looking for a shower head that will help me get all the shampoo & conditioner out of my hair.  I have one that allows me to adjust the settings and that helps.  I think the problem is that I am so short that even with the high pressure it doesn't completely remove all the shampoo since I am so much farther down than the shower head.  I want to get one of the removable ones but before I went and spent the money I was hoping for suggestions.  Whenever I go to my hairstylist, my hair always feels so much better for a week or two after she rinses it with that high-pressure sprayer so close to my head.  I'm sure her shampoo makes some diffference too, although I'm pretty sure it is just not being able to completely rinse my hair out that is causing me the frizzies.  Thanks for any suggestions on a reasonablly priced shower head.
I moisturize right out of shower, then go sm
do other things getting ready, then do my BE. I think it is better if your face has dried.
isn't that a baby shower?

Try baby oil in the shower but

Also, only pat yourself dry after showering and make sure the water is not too hot, and then put the baby oil on.

My fav lotion so far and I've tried quite a few is St. Ives the one with collagen.  It's not even that pricey.

Another good one is Eucerin as mentioned above, but also Avon has Moisture Therapy that is wonderful and hubs loves that one plus one from Bath and Body Works but it's pricey but he says it stays with him.  He hates "the girly stuff" but he doesn't want eczema patches to form.

Bath and Body Works gift certificate or basket can't go wrong for a girl. sm
i made a basket for my brother one year. i had no clue either, but he seemed to really like it. i did a "night at the movie" theme. filled the basket with snack things since all men i know like to snack, lol. i put in there popcorn, pringles, candy bars, fudge, drinks, gift certificates to Blockbuster, etc. men also like games like checkers, chess, dominoes, poker, etc so maybe a nice poker set or something?
Does it clean the bottom of the shower/tub also?

Give 'em a shower! sm
I spray mine with 409, let it sit for about 10 minutes and then shower it off. Or, I stick them out in a down pour and they get nice and clean.
