Bioidentical hormones -DHEA cream, ever used it?

Posted By: minnie on 2008-06-27
In Reply to:

Yes, perimenopause is here (yipee, huh?)! I am looking into bioidentical hormones as opposed to things like BCPs (which I have not taken in years).  I am looking at being on a program of progesterone cream and DHEA at the moment from a doctor who deals with a compounding pharmacy.  The side effects sound a little scary, but there are side effects for everything, right?  Has anyone else used DHEA?  Tell me the good, the bad, and the ugly...

yam cream is a natural progesterone cream--sm
I believe you can get it in most drug stores, health food stores, and on line. check on line, as you may find a better quality at a cheaper price. It works well.
Hormones
I have heard the same thing about the hormones and additives in the dairy products especially. Braum's and Shepp's milk are the 2 that I know of that supposedly have none of the hormone additives. My daughter is 9 and drinks milk/eats cereal almost every day, so I try to always buy these. She is physically mature (starting to wear bras because of her little buds showing), but she is emotionally immature for a 9-year-old, so I really hope we still have a while for this to happen!
The hormones you would have to take to SM
facilitate surrogatehood at 40 or even sooner, would put you at high risk for cancer later on. Or even shorter on.

I personally find it immoral to sell babies and that's what it is. JMO.
Chocolate cream pie, whipped cream & chocolate shavings on it!
PLUS:

Chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream.

Pumpkin pie with a 2:1 ratio of whipped cream to pie.

A root beer float.

Chocolate chip cookies, or else soft, iced molasses ones - warm from the oven, of course!

And for dessert, a few chocolate Easter bunnies and a dark chocolate Hershey bar with almonds.
I think my hormones are crazy
and would love to do something about them. I am guessing the poster below who said the levels change too much is probably right.

I sure would love to get rid of the depression and brain fog I often get though!
I would rather guess it has to do with the hormones....sm
maybe excessive estrogen or progesterone or testosterone.

A kind of imbalance between the hormones.

Is she on a sort of birth control?
My hormones rule my personality
and I'm tired of it also. I have many problems with ovarian cysts, etc. I believe if you have problems like these, it is worse. I never know what kind of mood I'll be in, and neither does anyone else :) One minute I can be laughing and the next I'll be screaming in anger. There are a lot of natural things out there they say help, I have not tried any but may do that soon. Here's just one article I found....

Goofed up hormones after a miscarriage...sm

I have had 2 miscarriages over the past 1-1/2 years, the last being in January.  Both times I had a D&C.  The first time I got my period right back within a month and stayed on my normal track for periods, which I've been having for 25 years now and are calendar regular.  Now since the 2nd miscarriage and D&C (at 11-1/2 weeks of pregnancy) my hormones have been crazy.  I didn't get a period for 3-1/2 months and that was only after they gave me progesterone to induce it.  Then I started the next month on time, followed by periods every 2 or 6 weeks, no regularity at all now.

Anyone else have a hard time with their hormones just bouncing all over the place and the body not understanding what to do with regularity anymore?  My OB/GYN says this doesn't happen very often but isn't concerned yet and since I'm trying to get pregnant again I don't want to go on BCPs.

Their hormones will get to them long before the marriage bug will. nm

I worry about hormones being regulated - did you (sm)
have any problem with that? How long was your recovery? Thanks
Yes it is normal, your hormones are readjusting -sm
from being pregnant, your body is in overdrive to make milk, etc. I never really had any of those issues luckily as I could not breast-feed (body would just not make milk with either of my pregnancies) so I had to make formula every day, sterilize bottles, nipples, etc. Fun process to have to do every darn day. You may have returned to work too soon, give yourself a chance to be with the baby, the first six weeks is an adjustment on everyone's part. With my first child though my DH would take one night a week of feedings so I could have a night off, you need to make a similar arrangement, lack of sleep will definitely make you loopy. Many times he would come home from work and I would lay down on the couch with my daughter (when she was just a month or two old or so) and zonk out with her while he made dinner (he'd cook, I'd clean up). ---go talk to your doctor about your mood swings and find out if they are extreme enough for meds, while breast feeding you may not be able to take anything possibly or if they have any suggestions that may make your life easier that maybe you have not thought of. Find a healthy way to relieve some stress, whether it is going outside and screaming your lungs out (my favorite) or cleaning, do what makes you feel better and burns off some stress.
the hormones from the BCPs is messing with your cycle. sm
i am a midwife so i am a "little" more informed. i would definitely ask for an u/s if your doc hasn't suggested it yet, but i would also ask for labs including TSH, free T3, T4, FSH, LH, progesterone levels. seems to me that should have already been done. definitely agree with fibroids/endometriosis ruling in or out. have you ever tried progesterone cream? not that it will straightened out your periods, but will definitely help regulate your hormones. 23 days is a very long time. i'd call her again and make sure you get your hemoglobin checked and possibly add some iron depending on your levels.
Normal. I think jealousy is involved & also that his hormones are starting

TLR- ice cream treat

And by the way thanks to some of the ones that don't mind reading them!!

I decided to take a much deserved break a lot earlier than usual from the craziness going on today and plus it was so beautiful out I couldn't sit any longer.  Cupid and I went to Bruesters Ice Cream for a treat. He was sooo excited he ran up to the stand!!  I think he knew something special was waiting there for him!  It was the first time we went to there so he didn't know what was there yet.  The first thing the girl asked me was if I wanted a doggie dish.  When he got it, there was a little dog biscuit stuck in the icecream.  It was so cute.  I hope your having a good evening, later.

Benadryl cream
Apply to your earlobes front and back, put in the earrings and don't touch the rest of the day! Really works, even if you have to wear the nickel earrings from time to time.
No, but on progesterone cream. sm
Just finished book "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause" by John R. Lee and Virginia Hopkins. Their web site explains and outlines various menopause symptoms and then tells you what would work best for those symptoms, estrogen or progesterone. I am using the progesterone cream, which I got from a list of progesterone creams from his website.

The first thing I note is that I am sleeping better. I have less hot flashes and just feel better overall. I also take a vitamin that helps hormonal issues.

It's a process. One has to figure out what their body needs and do their best to supplement it. I tried not to do anything for a while, but my hormones are going crazy and it affects my mood and well being. I wish I were symptom-free as most of my friends, but that is not the case for me.

I don't want HRT so this is the next best thing for me.

Anyone had Bruster's ice cream??. We tried..
yesterday and were expecting a really great treat....they say it's "real" ice cream.  Very disappointed.  I've had real ice cream and this was not as I remember it.  Breyer's from the grocery store is better.       And the waffle cones fell apart as we were eating it.
can anyone recommend a progesterone cream?
i believe i am menopausal now -- but having these hot flashes and have been told by a couple people that these creams help.  But there are so many on the market...any pros/cons to the natural vs synthetic progesterones you can tell me -- any particular one that you really like?  thanks!
try this - whipping cream potatoes
One bag frozen shredded potatoes

1 pint whipping cream.

about 1 1/2 t. salt.

Dump potatoes in casserole. Mix with salt. Pour whipping cream overtop and bake for 60 minutes at 350 degrees.

OMG, fried cream corn?!!??
That stuff sounds like it should be from the "Coronary Cookbook."
You'd have loved the ice cream truck
that used to play Christmas tunes all summer. I take it he's not from around here, LOL.

He finally changed the tune - to LA Cucaracha! I take it he doesn't speak Spanish if he thinks that song is going to sell ice cream! Ha!
LOL - that is gross I would not have bought ice cream from him

Ice cream with any kinds of nuts in it
Black walnut, butter pecan, chocolate almond. My mouth is watering.
And what I do is add a can of Cream of Chicken about an hour before sm
serving to give you a good, thick gravy - it combines the juices of the turkey plus the good taste of the soup. No one can ever tell how I got the gravy so thick and tasty (over home-made mashed potatoes) but the trick is that instead of flour or corn starch!
Just lotion or cold cream or something like that (sm)
I would be afraid the baking soda would be too abrasive and he'd have mark from that. If you get most of it off tonight and the rest in the morning it shouldn't be that hard to get off.
Wrinkle cream that actually works?

My mom is turning 51 this year and she has said she would like a wrinkle cream that actually works.

Does anyone have any experience or heard good things about a wrinkle cream.  She has tried IQ Derma and I think likes it okay, but hasn't seen too much results.  Obviously she's not looking for a miracle, but doesn't want Botox or anything crazy.  also, there are so many out there that claim to "reduce fine lines" is it possible to do that really without any kind of surgery?

Thanks for any help or recommendation!

cream cheese spread
Take a couple of blocks of cream cheese and soften by mashing them up:

Season to taste with Greek Seasoning Salt. Add a little bit of chopped green onion and chopped black olives. Serve on plain crackers.

Fluff/marshmallow cream
I grew up on Fluff - LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the stuff. We have marshmallow cream out here but not fluff, and the marshallow cream here is heavy and thick. Fluff is light and airy. Anyway...growing up we always used the receipe on the fluff jar. All I remember was using Fluff, chocolate chips and i think some butter (but its' been over 30 years since I've made it). All I know it was very very easy.
Try the cream of mushroom soup......sm
in the mac and cheese and stir in a can of tuna. Very yummy! I haven't tried the chicken or celery cream soups but they sound good, too.
My doc prescribed Elocon cream

for my dyshidrotic eczema, which really helps alleviate the itching.  I first developed it when I was about to graduate college - a very stressful time - and I had it on both my hands and feet.  The itching was very intense.  I don't really get outbreaks anymore unless I use products that contain tocopheryl acetate - which is vitamin E - and most lotions have that.  I can only use Curel original formula.   Hopefully you can find what triggers yours and get some relief.

Got an cheese and cream of whatever soup
when you first said rice I was thinking white, but this may work anyway.

A few of us posted not too long ago that we have similar recipes with slight variations for a mac and cheese/tuna recipe -- simple, you just make the boxed macaroni and cheese as usual and add the cream of (I use chicken, could be celery, mushroom, whatever) and flake the tuna with a fork and add . . . could work with rice also, you just wouldn't have that lovely powdered cheese mix and would have to make your own cheese sauce.

I have also made tuna patties before with canned tuna (like salmon patties). I like the salmon patties better, but the tuna patties were certainly edible (anything fried is pretty much edible, right?), and have the rice as a side dish.
Add a can of cream of mushroom soup.......... sm
to that tuna mac and you'll think you've died and gone to heaven!

Had the same thing happen with face cream
I just happened to open the box before I got to the register.  Instead of Neutogena, someone had swapped with Suave.  If the packages open easily, I always check the contents.  I love/hate that store.  Last weekend I got a whole buggy full of groceries and there are only 2 lanes open out of 20.  The only others were self checkout.  I had to bag my items and place them on the floor because my buggy is full and there is no place to pull the items out of the buggy until you scan them.  I let loose on the asst. manager that was standing nearby and she said they just couldn't get any help.  I said well, maybe if you paid more, but then wait! they probably make more than I do as a MT anyway!
I need some heavy duty face cream...
…I have some areas on my face that are extremely dry, around my hair line, around my nose and I have used several creams trying to soften these areas up. Sometimes I even flake on my eyelids like I have sunburn and I use dandruff shampoo on my eyebrows because if not they will flake- no dandruff in the hair, though. I know this sounds awful but this is getting on my last nerve. I have put petroleum jelly on my face overnight- still dry in these patches. Does anyone else have something like this and if so any remedies? Thanks
what is yam cream? at health food store?

Chicken/cream cheese dip. One 10 ounce can
chicken, two 8 ounce blocks of cream cheese and one package of Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing mix all mixed up together. Served with crackers. Absolutely delicious. I had this at a party the other night and it was wonderful.
The one I bought was like a white cream with aloe
where they sell burn ointments or bug bite ointments.  He's probably freaked out by the way it looks as well as the sting.  Once it pops though, it will just be water that comes out, but then it will look red.  Try putting the ointment on the gauze instead.  Then, put the gauze over the blister and tape it down.  You could probably get away with a Band-Aid, but the Band-Aid might irritate his sunburn.
Have you tried any herbal formulas yet or topical yam cream? nm

I am the queen of making whipped cream...
and never using a deep enough bowl (this happens many times mind you) and having whipping cream droplets all over the kitchen and me! Happens every time! Oh and used to make that awful yam/marshmallow thing at Thanksgiving (hey, my kids loved it!) and placing the bag of marshmallows on the open oven door and melting plastic all over the place.
