My yard has been infested with fleas and ticks and chiggars. The chiggars are eating me alive!

How do I get rid of the little pests without dumping pesticide everywhere? I don't want to kill the good bugs and worms too! I have some Sevin dust, but I'm told it kills everything down to about 12 inches. I don't want that.
Any thoughts?

  - DE is sold in swimming pool stores to use in DE filters. It's not - nice to breathe in, though! nm Gag!!
