with lots of hard work/rehab they can get it back...

My father had a stroke and got everything back but for only 8 months and then had another one which took him out but he lived for another 10 years.

A friend at age 52 had a stroke and she is fine today, not 100% but 90% and works and drives.....

A person's father where I live had a stroke the other day and didn't go to the hospital and I saw him twice since then and he is up and walking around and is 62.

When a stroke occurs, many strokes may follow...and it's ost important to get to the ER ASAP without fail.....the sooner, the better...and in getting function back.....

Hope he gets better real soon......

Doing lots of work around our place
stained two-story house, three buildings and two decks in the last two weeks. Just now getting around to the actual yard work/fall clean up chores today. There's always something to be done. My two-year old grandson and I spent the day picking the last of the garden, pruning back plants and me pulling him around on the wagon behind the mower... what fun he had. We are on 10 acres in So. Indiana, mostly wooded. DH just got a lawn sweeper to hopefully help out with the leaves that are starting to fall. The maples are really pretty right now. Expecting our first REALLY COLD spell on Thursday, but it has been just beautiful the last two days, 75 degrees and sunny. Hard to come back in and transcribe on days like that, especially when you know what is coming in a few months. Next project involves moving lots of rocks to re-do a man-made pond/stream, needs a new liner.. I feel my back aching already, but it has to be done. The ornamental pepper plant sounds interesting, I may look into that one too to see if it will grow where I live, sounds neat.
Baking bread from scratch is hard work, sm
especially for people like us who abuse their hands working. Kneading bread is exhausting!

I have a bread machine and love it. It allows for both bread mixes and scratch ingredients. The bread tastes delicious, too.

I agree! Many kids are overweight, lazy and don't want to work hard for anything!
Good luck to them in the working world...how many do you think will actually do well? It's a scary thought.
I think once disgust happens, lots of therapy is needed to feel love again. Lots

Lots and lots of SKATING ! - sm
Mostly inline street skating, up & down hills, too. Some roller skating and roller-disco. I was doing ice-skating, but can't afford it anymore, plus I prefer to skate outdoors. It works all muscles, is low-impact, fairly quick to learn compared to other sports, like skiing, is a cheap sport, and excellent for keeping balance & reflexes sharp. Most of the people I skate with look & act 10-20 years younger than their chronological ages.

I MAKE the time to skate. I eat my lunch at my desk, but take a break in the late afternoon before it gets dark, to exercise. This can also include a walk or jog around the neighborhood, bike ride into town to go to the market (cheaper than driving), a fast inline skate around town, or dance practice on a local tennis court. Then I work into the evening for as long as it takes to finish up.
Hey - Congrats!

First of all, congrats! (sm)
Yes, the tiredness can be very overwhelming. I would take this as a very good sign. I couldn't believe how tired I was the first trimester in both my pregnancies. Could fall asleep sitting up! Your body is doing a tremendous amount of work making that little baby. You'll feel better in the second trimester, and then tired again the last trimester. Though for me, I didn't feel like I was as tired in the 3rd as I was in the first, but everyone is different. Best wishes to you and your growing family!
Congrats to you and her.....
Nursing school is a lot of hard work!! Lots of nurses in my family (I am also a medical assistant). Just a little secret...when I cannot do my work, the nurses in my family help with my transcription. ;)

Anyway...congrats to her, congrats to you for being such a great mentor and for being such a great "helper" when she needed it! :)
Congrats!
I know the Atkins diet has worked for a lot of people. I know one in particular who has actually done it several times, only to gain the weight back and more, but I think the key is to probably transition into a Zone-type of diet after you are done with Atkins to keep your results. Best of luck to you!
Congrats!!!!

Congrats to the SOX, they got
the job done. Still wish it would have been the Indians though :-)
Congrats!

Congrats!!

Congrats to you :-) sm
I love my Rays. Been going to games (live 2 hours away) and watching them for 6 years now. I'm just so thrilled we got this far. It was such a treat.

But what really bothered me were statements from the media like, 'the series no one is watching, but no one will forget.' Pegging this series as 'not a sexy World Series.'

It's ironic that now that there is drug testing (so no steroids) that the 2 teams who made it, one of which hasn't won since 1980 and the other who has been in the cellar since it's inception in 1997, are deemed dull and a boring series...

I'm not sure about the Phillies, but the Rays were one of the only teams who had no players on the 'steroid list' last year.

I'm insulted as an avid baseball fan and as a Rays fan that the sports media continually poo-poo'ed this series. So... the only way a WS is good is if we watch pumped up steroid playera and/or players who make an obscene amount of money (one NY Yankee player equals the entire roster of the Rays).

I watch my Rays every day they're on TV or when I'm able to get to the games in person (love the Trop and the catwalks LOL), and I've watched every playoff and WS for as long as I can remember, no matter who was in it. I just pick a team and have fun.

I'm happy for the Phillies. It was a good, clean series and their manager has a lot of class. I'm sad we didn't win. Next year seems so far away, but I really had a great ride this year.

Again, congrats to you!!
Wow - Congrats!
That's awesome you lost all that weight!
Thank you both and congrats on the
weight loss.  Several years ago I lost 27 pounds and felt like a new person.  I have gained it back and more and need to get serious about weight loss for my health.  I have new clothes with the tags still on that I want to wear.  Thanks again to you both.  Wish me luck!
Hey, congrats! sm

Sober for 20 years, can you start a gab fest on how to do that successfully? You are the best! Just leave the rest! I can't swim either and I don't give a rat's pittouty!

Love this thread. What you don't know about me is I am claustrophobic, hate to fly and hate elevators and closed places. It prevents me from living my life as it should be!

Congrats.....
on being smoke free for 18 days! My boyfriend started the patch 2 weeks ago today. I think in that 2 weeks, he has had a total of 2 cigarettes (just taking a puff or 2 here and there, not a whole one at once). I started the patch 1 week ago and have had a total of 3 cigarettes(same thing, puff or 2 here and there, not a whole one at once). I only had a craving once that was really bad. Other than that, it's more the habit, type a long report and go smoke, eat and go smoke. lol I had him buy me an ab roller last night at Walmart and am gonna use that to hopefully help break the habit and maybe tone up my gut. LOL

By the way, cigarettes went up again here. My brother had to stop and pick up a pack for his MIL. Cost him $6.77!!!!! Absolutely ridiculous.
Congrats!!
You will love it!! I have leased two and NEVER had any problems with either one. Consumer Reports loves the car and actually compares it to the BMW.

ENJOY!!!
Congrats! (sm)
Congratulations on getting it done and presumably mailed by 04/15/2009. Next year, keep in mind that you can file an extension until 10/15 if you need to. Of course, filing that extension would probably just mean that you would be going through what you went through today, only on 10/14/2010 instead of 04/14/2010....

Anyway, congratulations!
CONGRATS!
OMG, how adorable! How old is your son? My daughter starred in a series of commercials for local health care facilities quite a few years ago. No matter how many times I saw it, I was just SO proud of her. There were no residuals or anything; just a good-sized savings bond and a few stuffed toys (unfortunately, one of which was Barney and my daughter was terrified of Barney at the time, lol!).

You and your son will have a blast and ENJOY IT! My daughter got full hair and makeup and everything, just like a little movie star.

Let us know how it goes and congrats to both of you!!!
Congrats!
Never saw your original post. Sometimes there are hot topics that quickly push other stuff off the board, so don't take it personally.

Congrats!
I'm so glad for you. Needless to say, this is a good thing for the remaining Chevy dealers, but just a horrible thing for the ones getting kicked to the curb. My son works in the body shop of a Pontiac dealer (you can see where that's going) but there is also a Chevy dealership partnered with them. I haven't heard yet whether they're pulling the plug on that one.

I would think it would be almost a survivor's guilt - so relieved it's not you, but so sad for the others.

By trial and error. Lots and LOTS of error!!! -nm
.
Congrats... you should be proud
of her and of yourselves for helping her as much as you could. I did the same thing with my DIL, looked at it as an longterm invest in my grandchild's future, the sacrifice of all of you is definitely worth it. I was as proud as any mom when she passed her boards for LPN. My DIL is back in school for her R.N. now, so we continue to help with the babysitting, etc. Wouldn't trade the time with my 2 year-old grandson for anything, even though most days I feel really OLD by the time his daddy picks him up each night. Congrats again to her!
Congrats! That's great! (nm)

Congrats! If you want some paint fun

go to the various paint companies websites (I like Behr) and fool around with their virtual rooms and color combos.  They also have good tips for the how-to of it.   Enjoy your new digs!

Congrats!! see inside......
You can definitely still have a very healthy baby and pregnancy. It sounds like you are wanting to try to change a few things so start now by eating healthy, walking daily, and you and your baby will be just fine. The cons or risks that come with obesity and pregnancy include......first of all, you can't feel the baby move as early as others may so don't let that scare you. The other issues that i have seen run in hand with some with obesity are high blood pressure and risk for toxemia. that doesn't mean every obese pregnant mother goes through that. i think there are lots of reasons for obesity and i think that plays a major role. Cut out as much sodium as possible, eat healthy, lots of protein, drink lots of water, and try to get some exercise and you should be fine. i would encourage you to go to blueribbonbaby.org and read up on some of those things mainly the Brewer's diet and if you start trying some of those things NOW it will help prevent things in the future if you happened to be at risk later on in pregnancy. oh, don't let some doc tell you that you need a c-section because of your size either cuz that is BS! Good luck to you!
jealous...congrats wish it were me
Keep  me posted...I want to know everything.
Congrats on your new additions!
They sound very cute!
Congrats! I am researching them now...sm
Thanks for the info.  My 10-year-old Cutie Utie is starting to have problems and I have been researching the hybrids.  Because of a very large dog that goes almost everywhere with me, I am focusing on the Ford Escape or Saturn Vue, but only if they are not too big--have only seen them on the computer.  Hope your car arrives in under 5 weeks.  How exciting!
Congrats to both of you new homeowners

What fun it is to decorate a new home for the holidays (and expensive).  Maybe you could talk one of your friends/family into throwing you a housewarming party -- make the theme Christmas decorations.

We're in the process of building, but we're not expected to be in until after the new year.  I can hardly wait.  It'll be like having 2 Christmases this year.  Good luck -- hope all goes well!

Congrats on that appointment! sm
A lot of people are returning to church. I was too "busy" for years and got away from it and feel it at the holidays. My views of the right/wrong religion have changed a great deal over the years. I no longer believe there should be huge "differences" in churches and ? being loyal to just one. I am "searching" as well because my kids have married people from other faiths and I feel they are "pulled" as to where to go, and that should not be. I'm happy you are thinking of returning and faith is so important these days. You have inspired me to get off my butt as well and get back to church (and I am not going to give up until I get back there.) It can be very depressing because it does haunt one on the holidays (at least me anyway). I can't imagine not having faith. Congratulations to you!
What a cutie pie! Congrats ! nm

congrats on the no smoking!!!!
I am not that broke, but next paycheck I need $800 for the car payment and window and door loan. Also need about 200 for food for the following 2 weeks until the next payday... so bout a grand, but the check will only be 700.  HMMM, Live without food and will still owe 100 to someone.  Thank God I do not have to put gas in the car.
Congrats! You earned it!!

Congrats!! Good luck to all of you!

Wow congrats, sweet deal. - sm
Sometimes your local RV retailer has info on supplies and such; we get a "wish book" catalog from ours which gives us ideas.

We just got back from Huntington Beach State Park in SC. SC has good coastal camping as well as the rest of the park system, plus you can reserve online. Also I have been told that national forests all over are great places to camp.
Awww congrats! She's a keeper! nm

Bear is a very handsome boy, congrats
on the new addition to your family.

An article for you...and woohoo...congrats ;-)
There appears to be a trend of older women dating younger men, notably illustrated by celebrity couples including Demi Moore and Aston Kutcher, Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry, and the most recent fling between 48-year-old Linda Hogan and 19-year-old Charlie Hill. According to a study of 50,000 women daters over 30, conducted by an online dating site in 2007, more than one-third of the subjects showed interest in men at least 5 years younger. And in 2003, an AARP survey revealed 34 percent of 3,500 women (between ages 40 and 69) dated men who are 10 or more years younger than themselves. This trend appears to be shocking to some people, but I don't find it so unusual.
Socially, there's a role reversal of sorts going on, women are more powerful now than ever before and may want men who are younger, and perhaps, more flexible; men who can handle it if the woman's career and lifestyle takes priority over their own. Media portrayals in "Sex and the City" (like movie characters Smith Jerrod and Samantha Jones) and "Desperate Housewives" are also showing women that dates don't have to be older. Women who have high-powered careers -- or a well-developed self-image -- are exercising more choice. Women who have been divorced and are established single moms may enjoy having a playmate, someone to have fun with; who doesn't try to control her.
Can these older woman/younger man relationships last?
In my counseling office, I have seen many relationships succeed with this kind of older woman/younger man scenario.
The media focuses on the age difference, but what really makes or breaks the relationship is how well the couple can form a partnership that works
The media focuses on the age difference, but what really makes or breaks the relationship is how well the couple can form a partnership that works.
Age difference is an adolescent worry: When you're a teenager, an age difference of even two or three years makes a vast difference in your experience and your outlook on life. Such a difference can interfere with communication, life goals, outlook, and relationship experience. In addition, for the young, the social reaction to such a relationship is often negative. If one partner is underage, a sexual relationship is even against the law.
But, as you get older, life experience and emotional growth help to equalize your relationship skills and resources. A 10-year or more difference in your ages makes little difference in how well you can conduct your relationship.
Don't focus on an arbitrary numbers difference in your ages. If you are getting along, you have good communication and problem solving, and you love each other, that's a precious thing, and far more important than any age difference could be. If other people have a problem with it, let it be their problem.
Whether or not a relationship is healthy is not determined by age differences, but by the interaction between the partners. A 10-year difference is not too difficult to bridge, but a 20-year differences or more in age can lead to some difficulties as the partners get older. For example, the younger partner may mature and reconsider his or her choices, or an older partner may confront aging problems much sooner. But, as long as both parties are adult, and the couple has talked about their age difference and the future possibilities, I don't make judgments about their respective ages.
Dealing with the generation gap
There are healthy and unhealthy reasons to date someone of a different generation.
One inappropriate motivation for dating a younger person is fear of aging on the older person's part.
One inappropriate motivation for dating a younger person is fear of aging on the older person's part. A younger partner isn't going to reverse the aging process or protect you from old age. Obviously, a man or woman who dates someone as young as his or her children is going to run into some social opposition, but the differences that can cause the biggest problems within the couple's relationship are differing maturity levels.
As more and more women choose younger partners for relationships, the question arises: Are women in their late 30s and early 40s likely to be successful with partners who are 10 to 15 years younger than themselves?
Success in these relationships depends on what the motivations of both people are. Some older people feel younger at heart than their contemporaries and like to date people who are as active as they are. Chronological age doesn't always reflect either physical capability or emotional maturity. Sometimes an age difference creates a mentoring relationship the older person advises the younger one on life or career. This can backfire if and when the younger person decides he or she has learned enough, and wants to move on.
If you're asking: "Is it OK for me to have a partner who is much older or younger than I am?" You'll do better off if you forget about your ages and concentrate on whether the relationship works for both of you, or not. What really makes a romantic relationship succeed is the emotional connection.

Yes - does not work! Hoax if you ask me. MetaboLife doesn't work either.
The only thing that works for me is exercise and eating correctly! No quick fix, unfortunately.
Congrats on your demotion! Now you can have a good time!

Congrats to you!! Enjoy that baby girl :-) nm
