Ha! Cattle dogs are great. I knew a working one.

That was one happy cattle dog, working a ranch in Texas. We could walk among the bulls in the field without any problems all because the bulls were so scared of the cattle dog.

My Misha was really funny, and I didn't correct all her sassy behaviors because they were harmless and hilarious, but I am reading Cesar Milan's book, Cesar's Way, and I think it's a great book for any dog lover.

The bell is a great idea! My niece's cattle dog learned to SM
ring the bell in 2 days and has done it ever since. It is adorable. If no one lets her out right away she looks around and takes that leg and swings it and hits it the second time.  It is a wonderful idea.
Shelties or Australian Sheep Dogs are great family dogs. rm
a
I just knew you all here would have some great ideas! sm

Thank you to everyone who responded.  The poster who suggested a manicure and pedicure had the perfect suggestion because she LOVES getting those.  I never would have thought of that myself because I am not good at ideas for gifts at all.  Yep, I am going with that idea!  Happy Mother's Day to all you mothers out there!

My dad is on it now - working great sm
He was diagnosed with throat cancer three weeks ago, so had to quit so he can start treatment. He said he is doing really well with it.
Great dogs...sm
The little weiners are one of the best dogs.  Great personalities.  The only thing negative is when puppies they chew on everything!  We had just remodeling our house when we got a puppy.  I lost a new comforter and a specially made quilt in one room, two new pillows in another and some chewed up table legs and rocker.  She also ate her bed!  They do outgrow this though. Unfortunately, we lost "Shelly" to a hit and run while my son was in the hospital.  I do plan to get another one some day.
Huskies are great dogs! I have had 3 so far - sm
They love to dig, run, and jump over or under fences. They also kill every animall smaller than them if given a chance, birds, squirrels, oppossems, etc. We have our backyard fenced in so our dogs can run free. My current husky does not dig or jump (or howl, I miss that) though, but he is hindered by having only 3 legs, but he can run like the wind. My previous husky though would try to dig out on a regular basis, still have plugs all along the fence in spots where she tried to get out to chase deer or squirrels, luckily she never got out though. My Cara was a very picky eater, and our new husky, Slade, used to be too until he came to live with us (he was with my dad before). He has competition in eating now and eats every piece of his dinner now. My other dog (choc. lab) practically inhales her food and we jokingly call her Hoover, though her name is Maggie. When she is in the house we have to make sure everything is put away or she will eat it no matter where it is. Slade is better behaved but will steal food off the coffee table if left there. Huskies are great dogs though! On cold nights he does not come in on the first call though, loves to sit outside in the cold, all curled up with his nose in his bushy tail, with his beautiful blue eyes peeping out watching the yard. Just make sure he gets plenty of exercise and love and he will love you back all the way!
Great dogs at shelters
There are so many wonderful dogs at shelters. I always say, the only bad thing about a shelter dog is its previous owner! There are lots of mixed breeds but plenty of purebred dogs, too.

Shelters are overflowing these days (more than usual) because of the number of people who are losing their homes. I've heard stories of people moving out of their foreclosed house & just leaving the dogs behind...terrible. Especially for older dogs, who are so hard to find homes for.
Aren't dogs just great. People
should strive to be more like them.
I have to agree. Just started Chantix 2 weeks ago and is working great!!! nm

3/4 Red Australian Cattle dog, 1/4 Blue
3 years old. His name is Eddie
HSUS and downed cattle
I get emails from the Human Society regarding animal rights all the time. The latest was regarding "downers", cows too sick to get up and walk into the slaughter house at a place in California.  They had an undercover video which I couldn't even bring myself to watch of these poor creatures being abused (tortured really) in an effort to get them up.  I tell you what, I don't think I want to eat meat any more.  My heart is sick over this.
All cattle graze for most of their lives. All of them...
and there is overhead involved in grass fed beef. There is overhead involved in everything, but my real question was: How does finishing with corn change the "chemistry" of the muscle?
I have been considering a cattle prodder to get mine up (just kidding) sm
My 4 kids are between the ages of 10 and 6 years old and they are all very difficult to get up in the mornings. Sometimes they even go back to sleep when I wake them up. As a working mom that has an hour commute every morning this is a major problem in our household. So, I would appreciate any suggestions. What is so weird is they get up with the roosters on the weekends (the only time I get to sleep late) but yet an earthquake wouldn't wake them on school days! I have even tried sprinkling water on their face and pulling the blankets off of them. Someone please help!
They get to bed early at night so I know they are getting plenty of sleep. They are just sleepy heads.
Lucky you! My niece has a red Australian Cattle Dog
and she is adorable. Name is Reggie. She was taught to ring a bell when she needed to go out and learned to do so in 2 days! She herds everyone when they are in the pool and my niece must actually stop her or she gets blisters on her little feet and is worn out! They are incredible. I know some people refer to them as Heelers as well, maybe the same thing or maybe a tad different. In any event, what a great dog!!
Australian Cattle Dog? What a wonderful picture of an s/m
obviously very happy, well taken care of dog. I wish they all had it so good!
These dogs appear to be puppy mill producing dogs.
The two females, which I thought were older, appear to be just worn out/depleted. Their teeth are those of a 3-5 year old dog. So, I do believe they have had litters each cycle and are suffering from malnourishment.

Funny thing, yesterday, they were covered with mud (it rained and they were digging) and this morning, I look out and see they have all been grooming as they are clean.

Called Love of Animals who has committed to spaying/neutering the animals, giving them their shots, flea repellant and showing them at Pets Mart on Sundays. In a few months, there will be a regional dog show at the local college where on average 150 dogs are adopted out and she asked that I keep them until then.
Which I will...And a girl saw the ad for the Lost Pets and is looking for a replacement for her Shi Tzu she lost a year ago and will come by tomorrow morning.
I have my dogs on it, and yes all my past dogs but 2 have died -sm
from cancer. But I had 2 schipperkes on Frontline for years and one died at 13 from cancer, the other at 16 just from old age/kidney failure. My last husky was 8 when she died from cancer, but I have had one die at 2 (unknown causes), and another at 9.5 from liver cancer (she actually made a nice recovery but succumbed about 6 months later), but huskies don't tend to live past 10 unfortunately. I have had purebreeds and mutts, and with or w/o Frontline/Advantage they have all died from cancer. I suppose it is possible that it causes it, but if you live long enough, cancer will most likely be your cause of death, anything and everything causes cancer anymore. I hate fleas and ticks and we have lots of them, so the dogs get the Frontline except in the cold winter months. They are 6 and 3 and both doing quite well.
And dogs don't bite right? Love my dogs but I
nm
my dogs are basically indoor dogs sm
but have a doggie door to go in and out as they please. Sometimes our Jack Russell gets excited and barks inside the house. My DH grabs is belt and snaps it and the loud noise shuts her up right away. I am not trying to frighten our dog, but many times just saying knock it off doesn't work.
Limbo. Great song, great game. Also,

The girls all line up and walk through a room as if they are modeling on the catwalk. Get a couple of bright colored boa's from the party store. It's a real riot and the kids have a blast especially if a couple of brave boys grab a boa and do it too.  We've had many a birthday party doing this and it was totally hilarious.

Wow!! What a great attitude! I love that - great perspective!

If you only knew!
I'm not a pagan, just simply educated on many different religions and other things of interest to me.
I knew when I saw what was going on,
simple. He was having wrecks and letting me know about them. His wife was deceased and I tried to get help for him and even telling him he was being taken, did not think so. Red flags flying all around- 1 lady who cared for his wife before her death, married, younger than me, all of a sudden taking interest in a 90 year old man who did not use deodorant? No way. I was out of town, bottom line after his death the person I spoke had got $60,000.00 from him, had him set up an account in her name and his social security check and other monies going directly into that account. I knew what I saw. She went to the bank the day after his death and pulled all out. I have been there.
see, I knew you all (most) would come through
for me. Sounds like a good alternative. You guys have given me great ideas.
Knew you could do it.
Didn't take long at all once your Realtor knew you meant business. Better for him, anyway.
And to think I knew all of these
guess not, have so many of those sayings and yet had never heard of this.
I wish I knew
I have one in the house now that keeps landing on my computer screen. I can't get rid of him. Even my cat is no help this evening.
They say she knew nothing - I don't see how though (nm)

That is when I knew that...
...it was over in my first marriage  When I was glad to see his a** go out that door and say to myself *good*, then I knew I had really lost that lovin' feeling.
THanks so much, knew there was a way nm
mm
maybe you took him b/c you knew
x
I never knew that
But with the large refund we got it's paying a credit card that we've been trying to pay off forever so I'll take the refund anyway I can.
I knew someone who did this too
I think this is a wonderful idea - of course, it wouldn't work for everyone but I can see a lot of benefits if it could work for you...
No...I never knew that either
Not that I care either way, I like her, just never knew that
Yes, and this is how I knew as well. sm
When you get to I don't give $ ___ you are there!
I wish I knew what to say but I am
65 now and have yet to have a midlife crisis. What is going on in your life that you just want to sleep and nothing else. You have no joys in life, just work alone? I have been in what I call ruts before but eventually snapped out of those. One thing is with my work if I would ever just get so fed up with working a lot and burned out basically, would find some time to take off from work and do other things I might enjoy, such as an escape to a movie, the zoo, etc.
Hey thanx, I never knew that! :) sm
About only adjectives with three or more syllables getting the comparative/superlative form of "more" and "most".

I've ALWAYS said "more stupid", but "stupidest" or "most stupid". Why, I don't know. But I usually avoid that word in any form.....
if you knew you were about to die
A friend of ours was a heavy smoker and drinker. He had an heart attack and quit smoking because of it. He has a bad liver and had to quit drinking. Now he found out he has about 9 months to live if he is lucky. He has cancer and it is in all his organs. He had started back to smoking and drinking heavy. Would you do the same thing?
We knew that - we won't dock your pay for it! LOL
x
thanks Jon-but I knew difference between the 2.

Gee. I knew that would happen! LOL!

Thanks so much to you all. I KNEW I needed help! :-)

Where are you? Wish I knew how to send
pictures so I could show you what our place looks like. I live in suburb of Atlanta and even the bigger homes in my neighborhood, say the 2-3 story places do not run, say over 400-500$$. I could not imagine paying huge price for a home to have a cracker box. I think lot of people paying huge amounts for homes would be surprised if they went on line and checked for homes say in Henry County or Fayette County, both just right outside Atlanta. You really get a bang for your buck here. Not only the cost but wonderful place, clean, quiet, really nice. What are the costs of your homes there?
I never knew they had that! Thanks for giving
me JUST ONE MORE snack to try!!!  LOL.
The last I knew they were about to wrap and that was some
strike would make any difference.
I knew what you meant
You know I did not even notice that, and I knew what you meant! I work third shift so believe me, I was in tune with what you were thinking...I get up too early every day.
HOW DARE YOU! She said she DID before she knew this (sm)
How rude of you to tell her to get a clue!! Very mean!! Why does somebody have to be mean in every thread?????
oh - I thought maybe you knew something
different and I was ready to go get it!  Mine has attempted to get peanuts out of my peanut feeder when the squirrels let him.
If you knew me personally you would know that I do sm
not try to keep up with the Jones'. Far from it, to be honest. This post all started when I was really shocked to see that others had to leave certain areas in the ward whenever she wanted to visit the common area, etc. And then to suspend 2 docs for checking out her chart. I just found all of this odd to me. I am not obessessed with celebs. And when Di died? I really could have cared less. I mean, I was sad, but I didn't watch or read anything about it!
It certainly is! If you knew this family and this SM

young man!  He used to have the lead in high school musicals with such a wonderful voice, is such a good musician and an all around good guy. It makes me so happy. He left for his tour of duty about 2 weeks before Thanksgiving, a very hard time to leave his new wife and family.

Thanks for your post.

Probably knew you'd be complaining about it
I'd say he expected you to carp on him about it, maybe because he really wanted it and figured you wouldn't, and that you'd complain about it, about the price, not really needing it, whatever.  I'd love it if my hubby brought home a nice new TV.
