Has anybody tried - sm

Has anybody ever tried one of those electronic contraptions that are supposed to upset the nervous systems of rodents and bugs and keep them out of the house?  Do they work? 

We've got mice, we've got squirrels in the attic - they just want to live their lives and we don't want to kill them - just get them to live somewhere else, not here!  Any other ideas that don't cost an arm and a leg? (had someone quote us on humanely removing them and sealing up the house for about a thousand dollars).
