Brunch guest who can't have dairy or salt - snowed in!

Out of ideas! Also, looking for simple recipe for brunch requiring stuff I have on hand. Martha always has some confounded ingredient I never heard of. Lost my hash brown recipe. Have frozen hash browns, sour cream, cr. chicken soup, butter & chips, forgot how I put them all together last time. Locked in, more snow coming, zero degrees in NE, don't even know if people will make it here. I'm frustrated. Have a spiral ham on hand, thank goodness! Sounds like I'll be cooking but will they come in the stormy weather. Darned if I do, darned if I don't!  The no dairy, no salt thing is driving me up the walls.

Oh well, have a happy holiday. Tip: Put furniture polish or cooking oil on your snow shovel and the snow won't stick.

Leave some open boxes of baking soda inside and maybe search for carbon filters to leave in there,

Dairy Queen
We have dairy queen here, the one with the waffle cone laying on the bed with whipped cream and another one where they have genetics testing, too many sexual overtones for me to want ice cream!

Cats and dairy

Cats as a species tend to be lactose intolerant, but just like any species (humans included) there are differences from one individual to another.  Milk has more lactose or milk sugar in it and that is what tends to cause the bloating and diarrhea problems.  Half and half does not have so much because the cream does not have it in the volumes that the milk does.  I had one cat who, when she turned 14 or so, sat in front of the fridge and meowed at me until I gave her a little bit of cream.  It was so bad that if I was out, I couldn't even go in to make coffee in the morning or else she would flip me the paw if she didn't get it.

I have an older cat now who is 18 and she tends to do the same thing, but straight cream gives her bad diarrhea.  I put water in a bowl and then sort of color the water with the half and half and that tends to appease her.  I have yet another cat that is allergic to anything dairy or beef related.  Give her half and half, or cheese, or beef cat food and within 10 minutes she's yacking up everything that's in her stomach.

I love the little varmints.  Don't know what I'd do without them.   OP  = I'm very glad for the solution to your problem.  You saved a poor kitty from a bad life outside and solved your mouse problem at the same time.  Yay!

I cut out about 90% of dairy products. sm
The smell isn't the problem really, I wish it was if you know what I mean! The air needs to go! The sitting makes me feel like I am going to explode like everything is "tight". I am short and have abotu 35 extra pounds and tend to gain it around the middle and I know that doesn't help.
re steroids in dairy products,
are these the growth hormones you are talking about? I guess the only way to avoid them is via farm your own or organic, yes?
You're free to pray, but not free to discriminate
It's as simple as that.
sapphires, Dairy Queen or Burger King?

I agree about minimal dairy, but nothing wrong with grains IMO (unless you're a raw foods faddist
or have some sort of special dietary needs. Seeds and nuts are great, but keep in mind that they tend to be high in fat so shouldn't be used *too* heavily.
Cut the salt in whatever you eat during day and stretch

as in wrech me the salt
To me it should be pass me the salt. Am I wrong about this?
Have you given up salt? Seems excessive.

Dairy Queen Blizzards purchased today will benefit the Children's Miracle Network, so

sea salt and diluted vinegar
It burns at first, but really dries up and heals your sinuses. You can use an eyedropper and tilt your head back if you don't have an actual nasal inhaler bottle.
I can't cook, so take this with a "grain of salt," sm
and maybe someone already posted this, but the best meatloaf is made with stove top stuffing as the filler...

Good luck.
I think the sweetness just combines with the salt from the ham
s
can you separate the flavor from salt?
no, no more than you can separate the Christianity from the Christian. why should he have to HIDE his Bible in a drawer -- because the mere sight of it offends you non-believers? now THAT is silly. and calling the word of God propaganda is very offensive. Ah, but no so much to me as to HIM. and you will one day be before that 'big guy in the sky' and wishing you hadn't been so foolish.
Thanks. I just ordered the salt and the baconaise
I think, if the Baconaise is good, DH will be happy. He can have BLTs again. That's his favorite sandwich.
Want to tell you about my Salt Lake visit
as you said your MIL there. I visited there and that was the best smelling city I think I have ever been in. I wrote email to the chamber of commerce there stating that. Have no idea where the sweet smell from but wonderful smell walking on the steets there.
Popcorn, homemade, with butter and a little salt

Sorry, meant to say garlic salt, not sauce!mt

I saw this on Martha Stewart....you pour salt into a paper bag
put the flower head first into the bag upside down, twist the top sorta so salt doesnt fall out and shake it around like shake-n-bake. it breaks up the dust and knocks it off..never have tried it myself though..but sounds like it might work..martha stewart style.
Utah or Salt Lake City, info please
My vacation is right around the corner, starting the 25th of this month. I would like to know what is this doing for the people coming into SLC, is there a problem with the fires there? I am still (hopefully) looking forward to visiting your state, my first time there. Any sites I should try to work in? Thanks.
Chicken broth and salt water gargling
but we mix in about the same amount of baking soda as salt in the hot water. It improves the taste and helps cut that feeling that acid is eating away your throat.
I have tried their bacon salt, which is good, but haven't tried baconnaise. nm

We are going to a family reunion this weekend and I'm looking for some new ideas for something to take.  Not anything too complicated since I work full time at home with 4 kids plus mother-in-law and 2 extra family members will be here tonight from Arizona and staying with us.  Can be anything - dessert, side, main etc.  Just having a hard time coming up with anything really yummy to feed a big group.  Have lots of chicken in the freezer so maybe something down that line. Thanks!!

Why would you want recipes when
you find disgusting? That is very strange.
Looking for recipes
Okay - i'm looking for really yummy dinner recipes that are very cost-effective.  During the week it's mainly me and my 7-year-old and I'm sick of spaghettios, hot dogs, and chicken nuggets.  Hubby is home on weekends but I get tired of making the same things every weekend, not to mention the cost of groceries sometimes makes it difficult to have the "standard" meat, potatoes, veggie, bread dinner!  TIA
Looking for recipes for...

microwave candies or relatively foolproof stove-top or oven methods, preferrably ones that have been tested.   I typically bake and decorate iced cake-mix cookies and make up gift boxes for neighbors, friends, the mailman, etc.,  but candies would be a nice addition...fudge, divinity, pralines, nut brittles, killer brownies or anything else you may have in your repertoire would be appreciated.

Found some recipes for you :)

many many rotel recipes
go to the below link and enjoy. Ro-tel is a wonderful addition to almost any recipe.

http://www.texmex.net/Rotel/main.htm

Also for an added idea take a brick of softened cream cheese and pour some mexican Ro-tel on and serve with chips. Also add some cooked ground sausage to the Velveeta with Ro-tel.

Rotal adn Velveeta are staples in my home and I live in WA and I can buy it at any major grocery store.

HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY!!!!

Is there a cooking or recipes board available - just curious.
Any recipes/ideas for
leftover roast, besides stew!
Tripe recipes
If you're really interested in tripe recipes there are some in Maya Angelou's cookbook. I haven't tried any of them so I have no idea how good they are.
bread recipes
Would the kind lady who posted her bread recipes please reply to me, even if it is my private e-mail address,  with the recipes that she had for 4 loaves of bread.  My hard drive crashed and even though I copied the recipe  to my word expander, I was not able to print it out.
So, where's those cookie recipes?
Go ahead flood the board with cookie recipes. I can handle it.. I can bake every one of them, while I am listening to one dictator flip pages, and the other pausing..c'mon give me whatcha got.  But seriously, I need some new ideas for the kids because pop n fresh dough holiday cookie cut outs.  PS: See, I am finally getting in the holiday spirit.
No recipes here, just wanted to say...
Glad you're gettin' in the spirit and feeling better!
Leftover ham recipes?
I had a big spiral ham Christmas Eve buffet but too much other food and a large portion, over half, not touched. I never leave my food out long, asked everyone if they were sure they didn't want more, put it in the fridge with intent to send some home with them but they had so many cookies, etc., to take that they didn't take any. I am going to a party tomorrow and wondered if along with what I am bringing, should I grind some ham up and make a ham salad to be put on nice crackers or rolls? I don't want it to look like I'm pushing leftover ham from Christmas but it will only be the 6th day and it's only the two of us here, so I hate to waste it. I'm not sure if I should just skip the idea or use it up. I don't want to look like an old cheapo.
Yummy Recipes
I bought two Foster Farms Chickens, on sale, not over $5.00, well I got three meals out of those two chickens, cut each up for frying the best parts, made chicken soup with the less desirable parts, back, etc. adding my last frozen pack of tomatoes from DH garden last summer, and other veggies, bow tie pasta, sprinkled with fresh chopped parsley and parmesan, Yummie.  The other two packages, one will be oven fried chicken, recipe on breadcrumb container and the other from my Campbell's Soup Cookbook, something or other.  Not bad for the price!
anybody have any good dip recipes
I bought a couple bags of those cornchips called scoops.  Last night I made guacamole but now I've got 1 and 1/2 bags of chips left.  Anyone have any good ideas of things I could use them for?
New dinner recipes
Hey all........I am sitting here (before lunch) thinking what the heck I'm going to make for dinner....I am sooooo tired of making the same things, week after week.....anyone have any new, easy dinner recipes??  Maybe your same-old will be new to me!
There are a lot of recipes for microwave

Thanks for all the good recipes.  My mother used to be the "queen of candy making" until she got Alzheimer's but I never wrote down her recipes if she ever had one; and of course could not remember how she made it or the variations - she just "winged it" and I stirred it because she had severe arthritis in her hands.  Thanks for sharing!
Need some Xmas goodies recipes..
Looking for recipes to make some fairly easy yet yummy Christmas goodies for gift giving.  No heavy baking or long recipes please.  Stuff along the lines of snack mixes, that powdered sugar "puppy chow" (I think that's what it's called lol), etc.  Stuff that can be made in large batches ahead of time and not needing refrigeration.  There are so many great cooks out here..so this is the first place I thought of to get some great ideas.  Thanks ahead to all who respond!! :)
Anyway cook using Rachel Ray's recipes? sm
I'm always looking to try something different and her 30 minute meals sure look tasty and easy.
I love her recipes, but WAY too many ingredients
I had a bunch of her books but ended up selling them on ebay cuz I never had all the ingredients on hand and didn't want to spend a fortune getting them.
Try this site...you can mix and match the different recipes.... : )
