Sometimes I feel bad also because I don't receive that many cards.  I don't know if this applies to your situation or not, but I travel and move around a lot.  So even though I also don't receive nearly as many cards as I mail out, I prefer to assume it is not because people don't care, but just because people might not know the right address to send things to me. 


In your case, maybe people have a different impression of you as the strong person or maybe they showed you they care in different ways, more personal than a card in the mail, such as phone calls or talking with you in person, etc.?  But if possible I would try to not take it so personally.  There was probably something going on at that time that you haven't considered.  And at least you have family and friends and people to send cards TO; some people are all alone and don't even have that.
