All your words are wise. Things are never as simple as they seem. Like I said in my post it's been 3 years. I of course have gotten over this, but I was just thinking about it because my aunts dog died and I'm getting ready to send her a sympathy card. As for my DH family. None of them called to offer condolences except my MIL. As for friends none of them sent cards, called or did any act of kindness.

I guess I just take too much for granted. When I see my sister getting a card from a bank teller she knows (but doesn't have anything to do with outside of talking with her when she goes into the bank) and she gets a card from her I think, why wouldn't my own MIL send me a card, or my friend that I worked with every day. But I have learned that some people don't even think of things like that (however, when my BIL's wife's mother and father died (at different times) we went them a card. So anyway...such is life. We don't talk to them much at all anymore. They are always into their own lives. I was just basically curious to know if other people get hurt feelings if they don't receive cards or a call or anything.
