I've lived in the snooty HOA places and amongst regular people

With all due respect, I'm not a conformist and have no desire to feel 'unique' in a development simply because I get to choose 1 of 3 styles of carpeting, 1 of 4 styles of roofing material, etc. I don't like being boxed in or having others make my decisions in life. I'm far too independent to be subservient to a group of individuals who decide what is aesthetically 'acceptable'. I've no desire to associate with people who exude your smug, self-satisfied attitude that simply because you pay others every month to dictate what you can and cannot do with your own home. I've lived in a place like this, very briefly, simply because I got tired of trying to explain to first-time visitors which condo was mine because they all looked just alike, nothing unique about ANY of them.

MT work is isolating in and of itself. I've no desire to further isolate myself from society by feeding myself a false sense of security or self-righteousness that because I'm in an HOA-dictated community that I'm better (or safer) than anyone else.

The day someone tells me I can't put a decoration up without permission is the day I move.

If I wanted to live by someone else's rules, I'd have lived with my parents all of my life.

Indepenence equals freedom to me, and by letting someone else dictate what I may or may not do with something I pay hard-earned money for is just tacky.

Well, regular people might be
ignorant but what about the humane shelters who refuse to adopt them out because of their aggressive nature? You can talk and talk but it does not change the fact that these dogs are well known for their mauling and killing of people. Just because you love does not make it otherwise. Stick your head in the sand, no one else cares but most people have sense enough not to own.

Best City You've Ever Lived In
Milwaukee, WI... HANDS DOWN! Love the people, love the city, wish I could move back.

I've move a lot in my lfe- anyone else who has moved a lot who has a fave city?
I've lived it, both sides and it goes both
I've been on both sides and I have seen stepchildren thrown in the middle, guilty parents on both sides. I have seen the new single mom (now married mom) want her husband all for herself and act SHOCKED when she realizes she can't have him all for herself...it's not always a fairytale ending. It does sound like the child is playing her and it's obvious why, but I witnessed first hand a grown woman manipulate her stepchildren and husband, until she had both turned against her. Instead of expecting all the attention, perhaps your time would be better spent with your stepson NOT expecting anything from your husband, since you're not getting it, it sounds but instead, go out of your way to give him attention. Take him somewhere just the two of you and eat at his favorite fast food place, go to the zoo, something without dad. When he has to depend on just you and dad isn't there for comparison and pity, you might see an improvement for the better.
I've lived in Houston my whole life and I
love it. I like living in the city, although we actually live in the burbs, but close enough! I've never been to NY, but really want to go myself.
I've never lived in an apartment building that
even ALLOWED smoking, and that was 15 years ago!
I've lived here for 25 years, a transplant from the NY area.

I live in the "burbs" like the other poster, but if you have a choice, go to NY!!  It is WONDERFUL this time of year.  The crowds are what make it New York at holiday season.  Rockefeller Center, Radio City, and all thos wonderful things.  I lived close enough to NY that I could hop on a train and be there in 15 minutes.  I miss New York - lots.

Probably the same rich & snooty folks who buy $800 Gucci and Prada sm
bags, Jimmie Choo and Manolo Blahnik shoes for $1000 a pair. I heard that Tiffany's is now offering a "plain paper bag" instead of their ritzy printed bag with Tiffany printed on it, b/c the rich are feeling guilty about continuing to buy this overpriced crap while the rest of the country goes down the tubes.
Not rich or snooty either, just love good quality
items and buy them when I want. Who wants to shop at the local mall and get something that everyone else wears and see it all over town? Just like jewelry; I don't wear the average items you see advertised every holiday season that everyone wears and every jewelry store sells. My guy gets my things made at a one of kind store, where at least I know I'm probably the only one who has it.
I've known 4 people who had it....sm
Every one of them lost weight but also regained a lot of the weight. One of them had horrific complications post-surgery and he almost died from it and had 3 subsequent surgeries. A lot of insurance companies that were paying for this surgery are now considering not paying for it because it is high risk without proven long-term success.

While considering this surgery ask blunt questions from the surgeon, i.e. how many surgeries has she/he done, how many people kept the weight off more than 3 years and how many had complications. Then ask for references of patients you can talk to that had the surgery and call them up. A good reputable surgeon will have patients willing to speak up about their experience.

As with any weight loss regimen there are people that are successful with this. In order to be successful you have to realize that you must make lifestyle changes that are permanent because if you don't, you'll stretch the smaller stomach back out and regain weight.

Good luck with your final decision. I don't mean to scare you, but you need to know that this isn't for everyone and without being committed to permanent lifestyle changes it will not be successful long-term.
I've known several people
who have had this. I just remember them saying it didn't stay constant, it started in one area and migrated around their chests. It did take months to resolve, unfortunately.
I've known people who don't like them
because cats are a lot more work emotionally than dogs. I have a boxer and he immediately loves anyone that walks through the door. My cats on the other hand, immediately hate anyone who walks in the door! My family calls my little one 'Spaz' because he'll come up to be petted, but when they go to pet him he runs away. But I know how sweet he can be. When I'm sitting in my chair in the living room, he'll crawl up and put his head under my chin and fall asleep (which is cute, buy I have to hold him up when he falls asleep!)Both of my cats are here sleeping by my feet. Sometimes I think some people just want the animal to love them immediately without having to work for it and that doesn't always work for cats.

I have also found a love for big cats and try to do fund raising for animal rescue facilities any time I can. For the cat lovers - here is a picture of Mya, a baby Florida Panter. Hope this works!

Most of the people I've met at my door
to a church and have our own beliefs. I wouldn't appreciate it if someone went on and on after I've told them that. Would probably shut the door, just as I would hang up the phone with a pushy telephone solicitor.
I've heard other people saying that, too

I don't have anyone playing sports this year, so didn't give it a thought, but I hope you're right and that the ratings aren't affected or that they change the night it is on.

I can't say I've ever been a people-pleaser
type, BUT, I do have one very difficult sister. We are going on a very special vacation this summer where we will get to see my brother and his family after a long hiatus. The reason is that they live 1000 miles away and also that his wife gets stressed out by certain members of our family. She assures me she likes me. But my difficult sister is already driving me nuts about the plans for this vacation. It's at the beach. She doesn't like the beach, but everybody else does. Her husband makes great money, yet they are complaining about the cost of the hotel. They would rather rent a house. Nobody wants the stress of being in the same house with them, but when we've tried to tell my sister she and her husband need to tone things down and not be so difficult, she gets all offended. So we ARE going to stay in a hotel to offer some separation, and yes we ARE going to be on the top floor, even if she's just sure it's going to be hot up there (oy). This vacation should be wonderful, but she's bound and determined to complain, and I'm not going to humor her at all.
I've personally sat down with groups of TG people

It was a therapy/support group that I attended with my son/daughter.  I was the only parent there.  My child was never molested or had any such issues you think are common to "gay" people you are acquainted with.  None of the TG people I have spoken with expressed concern about any past abuse.  The main issue that everyone had in common and kept discussing was the crushing rejection they received from society and their family.  Many were shocked and envious that I as a parent was at the meeting, because their own parents would no longer even speak to them.

If a child is born with gender issues, we make it very clear to them the minute the issue arises that we don't want to hear it. We accuse them of making a choice and judge their choice is wrong, so we punish them, we try to silence them and make them stop the nonsense. So they learn to hide it and handle it alone. IF they make it through puberty without suicide, as adults they tell us it still exists and they must face it. What do we do then? Accuse them of duplicity because they faked being "normal" for so long (after WE forced them to), punish, ignore and hate them, cut them out of the family, weep and moan from the shame of it all and what people will think of them and us. We even tell them we'd prefer they were dead! Because we'd rather deny and eliminate our own child than deal with THIS problem. How very sad for us all. We need to focus on what is wrong with US that we would react this way to a loved one with a very tough problem. Only then can we work on how society sees it.

So for every transgendered person you hear of - know this - they are dealing with a horrible backlash from the people they love AS WELL as the gender issue. Most of them contemplate suicide daily (statistically 50% do commit suicide - the other half that die untimely deaths are murdered). Despise them if you wish, your opinion won't make it go away. The next transgendered person born could be your child or grandchild, your neice or nephew, your best friend's new baby. I pray they will each have someone in their lives that will love them anyway, who doesn't choose gender as more important than the human being.

I've seen shows on really obese people

I have no idea how someone could consume that much food.  I mean really?  It is interesting though how it goes from one extreme to the other in that anorexics do not eat anything at all, and I mean nothing....  So, I couldn't do that either, and I certainly believe in eating disorders; I really do.  I am no skinny minnie, and my daughter is sort of overweight for her age, but not really for her height.  I see her go to the fridge just cuz she's bored....  So, I've been trying to teach her other things to do when she's bored; she's only 9.  Here's another thing that's interesting...   At school, if she mixes odd foods together (like ketchup and BBQ sauce to dunk chicken tenders), she gets a rise out of the other kids at the table.

That site and what my daughter does certainly shows me that this is part of a much broader, wider (no pun intended) problem with this society, which is that if we are odd in any way it draws attention and we all love attention don't we?

P/S:  YUCKO on the huge Scooby Doo sandwiches, but I watched that growing up in the 70s and 80s, so this is not a new thing!  Anyone?

I dod get regular paps (sm)
Had one about 7 or 8 months ago. Had dysplasia about 10 years ago, conal biopsy and LEEP. Have always had normal paps since. I have a lot of symptoms don't want to be too graphic - hot flashes, bleeding between periods, pink dschg and another I don't want to say on here. I had attributed all this to perimenopause until this last symptom which has me scared now.
You are a regular laugh

How is it different from regular shampoo?
Is it conditioning? I have to avoid conditioning shampoos, so I've wasted a lot of money trying shampoos that are all about conditioning the hair (It irritates the skin).

there are usually places where you can get
kitchen cabinets, sinks, and bathroom vanities and sinks and other fixtures that are discontinued models at a discount and if the kitchen is small you can probably find what you need.
Know both places well
Grew up in Texas and have live near or in both what would you like to know and I will try and help.
Want to say this, some of the places
are not what I would consider very nice upkeep. Have been to the Flamingo to see shows but old, run down to my liking, also very smoke filled casino where you walk in off the street. I am surprised has not been 1 of the 1 demolished to tell you the truth. Monte Carlo may be ok- is on the strip. Lots stay at MGM, looks really nice from the lobby view. The Stratosphere is really low on my totem pole, did not like the atmosphere there. You want to stay on the strip I would think, easier to get around. The taxis are costly, ride the trolley, also there is free rides to places. The last time I was there found a place off the strip I wanted to see show- called the hotel and they told me where to catch free ride!! Lots of places offer those- people just don’t know to ask. The buses are cheap enough. Lots of walking- long, long blocks.
Hi, not just the ads here, although I do think that of all places,,,,sm
an MT forum and networking site should be more representative of what actually takes place in this field. There are ads on the internet, TV, magazines, just about everywhere. I think they should tone down the "rhetoric" quite a bit, and stop using hopeful young woman/moms as THEIR meal ticket with mostly UNREALISTIC and misleading "guarantees!" Really gripes me! Thanks for responding!
Oh, and you forgot, his is not on a regular basis
either. I think he does not have enough information to make any kind of judgement on a home at this time. Where I live in the US you do not borrow from family/friends/anyone to put down a down payment. Rules are strict and no interest is a crazy thing to do. Repossessions are at an all time high- probably because of this.
Does he do this at his regular feeding times?

Have you cut back not only on the amount of food but the amount of times you feed him? If so, that may be why he is reacting this way.

My dog is overweight, too, and since he has problems with his legs, the vet wants us to try to help him lose weight. She said to feed him small meals more often so that he will feel satisfied but to make sure we cut down on the total amount of food given per day.

So maybe that would work with your cat - smaller meals, more often. Worth a try, right?

Bake like a regular potato
They are good if you make them just like a regular baked potato too and just add butter, salt, and pepper. My husband also grilled them in foil this summer with butter and just a touch of brown sugar and they were great. I do not like the canned, fresh are MUCH better and less sweet from the start. I also saw a recipe for sweet potato chips in the oven. I haven't tried it yet and can't remember where I found the recipe but I'm sure you can Google it.
So you do regular maintenance on the computer..sm
Such as check for Windows updates, deleting your cookies and browsing history, scanning for errors, and defragmenting? If you need help with any of this let me know. I can give you instructions on it. I have Windows XP so that is the version I know about. I don't know about other versions. These things really make a difference.
PUBLIC PLACES

I love animals; however, I have a life-threatening allergy to dander. Keep your animals home, love them, and enjoy them in YOUR space.

The places where I was able to go in my travels
always had babysitters available for the families. Oh yes to tell you the truth I do have money.
Have been loads of places
Greece, Mexico (5x there), Puerto Rico, Bahamas (4x there, Jamica, Alaska and my hubs fav is Las Vegas (6x there)- I was only in Jamica for a week but had a blast there, so much to do. I probably would save my favorite and most gorgeous (water included) was probably Alaska. Very hard trip for me, so far and I thought only trip of a lifetime but I think I have changed my mind and would love to return. It would be between Jamica and Alaska and I am past the beach thing now. Have a great time!
Been to lots of places
My favorite all-time place for me has to be Salzburg Austria (birthplace of Mozart), if you want sunny beaches the best time my hsbnd & I ever had was Ibiza (one of the Balearic Islands located in the Mediterranean Sea). We had two weeks of peace and quiet in a little bungalow. Spent every day lying on the beach, drinking sangrias & munching on paella and fresh seafood. Hiked all over the place. Had to take a bus from the airport to the hotel which was a very interesting ride as I felt like I was in a Romancing the Stone movie (we rode with animals on the bus). Sounds horrid but it was actually fun. My other "beach" vacation spot is Greece. Was there for a week. Lots and lots and lots to do there. Beaches, sightseeing, shopping. Mind you these were the mid 1980s when Reagan was president (and our country was a little well more liked than now), so not sure about safety in other countries. Hands down though I say Ibiza has to be the best if you want a relaxing beach vacation.
Happens at other places - certain posts take over for a while
no harm really - gets people involved and more people coming, etc.  It's playful - try to enjoy
Chances are if he's doing it in the same places, (sm)
some urine has gotten under, between, or into the wood panels on the floor. You may end up having to pull those out and replace them. Don't use any kind of cleaner that has ammonia in it - as it will ATTRACT the cat to that spot.

There is a very good product called "Nature's Miracle", and they also make a cat-specific formula, too. It has enzymes that eat the invisible crystals of urine that you can't see or smell, but your cat - with 1000 x's better smell than humans, can still smell. There is also a similar product called "Anti-Icky-Poo" that works the same way.

Be sure your cat has more than one litter box, and try keeping them as clean as possible. Most cats don't like scented litter, so try using unscented only. The hard-clumping kind is the best, because you'll leave less traces of urine behind when you scoop. Experiment with litter depths. Lots of cats don't like it very deep. (Like my cat). Kind of defeats the scooping feature, but having to wash & replace litter more often due to using less may actually be a good thing.

My cat actually prefers NO litter... and either just a bare box, or one with some paper towels on the bottom. Only thing is, that way it's only good for one use, and has no odor-control.

If you use a domed litter box, try removing it. Some cats feel claustrophobic in them, and they can intensify odors inside (like a human's port-a-potty). If it's a big cat, try a larger litter pan. (A plastic sweater-storing box, like you'd get at K-Mart or Wal-Mart, makes a good "jumbo" litter box.)

If you only have one box, add a second. (A good rule of thumb is one box per cat, +1 extra). My cat likes to pee in one box, and poo in the other.

Try putting the box(s) in the spot(s) where he goes. If it's not in a good place for YOU, but he's using it reliably, you can gradully move it about an inch a day to your desired location.

Is there anything psychological that could be going on? (Which is MY cat's problem!) Is the litter box in a noisy place, like next to a washer or dryer? Is there a new cat hanging around outside that he can see and is worried about? (That was also happening here... I bought some cat/dog repellent and spray it around outside every couple days to keep them away from the front door, where my cat can see them.) I also tried spraying some of it in areas where I didn't want her to pee indoors, but with about 80% success.

I'm in the midst of trying the Feliway "Comfort Zone" synthetic pheromone products right now. It's EXPENSIVE stuff! But anything's worth a try at this point. One bottle is a diffuser (kind've like a bathroom scent-thing) that you plug into an electrical socket in the room. I use mine in the corner of the kitchen where the litter boxes are. There's also a spray bottle. If the cat is SPRAYING (like on the walls), they say to spray it where the cat sprays. It's supposed to be pretty effective. But for litter-box avoidance it can be less effective. For that problem I sprayed a little bit IN the litter boxs (she has 3!), and found the first 2 days it worked well. Kitty had a relapse this morning, so I'm hoping that was just a slip, and that the Feliway will keep on helping.

I called Rescue again, and they said that even though she tested negative for a UTI, that she would still have a very low-grade one that doesn't register on the test. They swear by putting the litter-box-avoiding, negative-urine-tested cat on about a month of antibiotics anyway, and that it often clears up the problem.

So I may try that next. The ONLY other thing I haven't tried yet is putting her on an antidepressant such as Prozac or amitriptyline... which I don't think her pet insurance will cover, and I don't think I can afford. I guess amitriptyline is sometimes a good choice, not only for its calming effects, but also it's anti-inflammatory properties.

It's not an easy problem to deal with, so I wish you luck, and I hope I might have had an idea that might help.
Different places when no office available

I have been in just about every room of my house at one time or another.  I started out working in the kitchen years ago because I had dialup and the apartment I lived in had only a phone jack there.  The kitchen was my favorite because it was away from all the noise--that was when the kids were smaller, though.

I have had a desk in the bedroom before.  It was handy when the kids were at school or hubby was home to take care of them, otherwise it was a pain because it was in the back of the house and if they needed something I had to get up from my desk.

The family room is okay, unless you have really loud family like mine.  My kids must be deaf sometimes, I swear.  Oh yeah and they argue in there over the TV the PlayStation, etc.  However, you can deal with some of that from the desk without having to get up.  It is a fair trade most of the time.

I had two different mobile setups over the years.  One was laptop which was okay, but before WiFi, so expensive.  The second, I had a desk on wheels that had everything I needed.  I could roll it out to the back porch and sit there to work while the youngest was out playing.  This was good for mild weather.  Be forewarned, if it is really hot outside where you are, you may have PC problems.  I used to have one that would overheat and shut itself off.  Ugh!!.  Oh, BTW, direct sunlight is bad if you have a laptop or plasma screen, so make sure you have shade!

I currently have my own "little room" for now which basically is the size of a really huge walk-in closet with a window and a door.  I shut the door when the kids are home because the words "please be quiet, I cannot hear when you are yelling at eachother" apparently are not in teenager-ese.

Hope this was helpful!

Not in a million years would I want a celebrity lifestyle with all it's attendant trappings! I cannot begin to imagine the stress level that comes with it, including protecting one's privacy and that of one's family as well. Too often, I have seen a celebrity or their child brought before the glaring spotlight for America to inspect and dissect because of some err in judgment on their part. Besides, I'm not good enough with money to handle my meager salary, let alone the vast amount that a celebrity garners! LOL

I get mine from a regular grocery store

What you want to buy is a "city" ham, not a "country" ham. City hams have less salt. Smithfield hams are good. I've also tried Cooks' and Hatfield. Don't know if they sell those in your part of the country.

I get a catalog called Burger's Smokehouse and those hams look absolutely fantastic. I would love to order from there but I'm strapped for cash right now.

The past 2 years, we have gotten a 1/2 pig from a local butcher. DH loves them. I'm not crazy about them.

The only show I watch on a regular basis
is Grey's Anatomy - could NOT live without it!! Really, that's the only TV I watch too. I catch glimpses of other shows as I'm walking through the living room but have too much to do to just sit there.
