I agree call the school to check sm

Posted By: MB on 2007-12-17
In Reply to: What would you all do? My SIL is making my DH attend my nephew's HS grad in Texas this June...sm - poorMT

on the availability of tickets.   If it is outside and rains they usually put a limit on the tickets.   My mom who lives in my State could not see my daughter graduate because it rained and we only were allowed two tickets for the auditorium and one ticket for the big screen in another room where my daughter had to watch.    Definitely check the circumstances.

I would just say no and travel another time.

Call the school. I had a threat like this in my high school and they cancelled school that day.
Thankfully, because the person making the threats was found with material for home made pipe bombs and quit a bit of ammunition and a shotgun. He was arrested and charged. Never allowed back in the school.

I think it would be safer to call the school and get classes cancelled for a day to investigate versus make a scene in the parking lot, especially if the student with the knife is inside with the knife.

Good luck. If nothing happens, pull your child out of school for a week. See what happens. I know that sounds horrible, but small towns is where this happens most often.
If it's gas, why not call your gas company and have them check for leaks. Can cat

Call the school to see what help they may be able to

You might want to call the school
and check on how many family members are allowed to attend the ceremony. The rule at mine, way back when, was only 2 or 3 relatives allowed. Maybe she's insisting he come for something he won't even be allowed to attend!

Call the school

I think you need to call the school and demand that action be taken.  This child needs serious help immediately.  Do you know how to reach his parents?  If the school won't do anything, how about trying to call the parents.  Maybe even involve the police, if you have to.

Good luck.  That's scary stuff.

Do not call the school --

Do not call the school.  Accompany your child to school tomorrow and call the police from the school parking lot to meet you there.  Then demand to see the principal to report the incident with the police present.

Obviously you know this is a serious matter or you wouldn't be posting.  I bet the people of Columbine wish someone had made a scene like this before things went the way they did.  If the child can get a knife from his parent's home, whose to say he can't just easily bring a gun the next time.

U didn't call the school?
You should have called the school, demanded to speak to the principal, then call the school board office. Get a group of parents to go with you to the next school board meeting and make sure you let them know what happened. THEN, write a letter to the Editor of your newspaper, call in on any talk radio show you can dial into it.

The next time, it could be your kid who has an emergency. Bless those kids for helping their schoolmate.
I would call the school counselor and
let them know what is going on. They can then contact the family.
Could she go to the office to make the call after school? sm
or borrow a friend's cell phone to call after school, so she doesn't have the cut into lunch?

Also, about the cell phone, I got my daughter a TracFone which can be relatively inexpensive for times like this. It is not for chit-chat, just to make quick calls to home for times like this.
People I went to high school with still call me by my maiden
name, and we graduated 30+ years ago, and I call them by their's when talking about them with someone. What is the big deal??????
If OP didnt bother to make call to school about this,

I agree with poster below - maybe check thyroid. sm
A little over a year ago I had what I thought was a *severe* sore throat. Over the course of about a week, I also had a low-grade temp., body aches, headache, chills (but only off and off) then came night sweats, heart palpitations and tachycardia (142 bpm).

I thought I was coming down with the flu, or maybe had strep throat. The weird thing is that the symptoms would come and go, and were always much worse at night. I'd feel horrible at night, then wake up feeling pretty much back to normal.

I finally got tired of it and went to urgent care, and when they saw how high my heart rate was, they did an EKG and told me to go immediately to the ER. At the ER, they gave me fluids, but my heart rate didn't come down. (They asked me if I was anxious. Nope. Calm as could be, and felt pretty good right then, actually.) They drew blood, gave me fluids, etc. and found I was hyperthyroid. I was in the hospital from Sun. afternoon until Tue. afternoon (mostly so they could monitor my heart to make sure it was okay, do more tests, and give me some pain relief for the throat pain).

What I had is called subacute granulomatous thyroiditis. (Maybe Google it and see if the symptoms sound like how you're feeling?) They *think* it's caused by a virus (it's not an immune system thyroid disorder). So basically it runs its course, they treat the symptoms, you're fine. (Though a small % of people may be left hypothyroid and need to go on thyroid replacement.)

I had follow up with an endocrinologist, and he said he was really surprised the docs in the ER diagnosed me so quickly. I guess most don't. If they hadn't thought to check my thyroid levels, I don't know what would have happened!

Now the runny nose symptom you have doesn't fit with this, so maybe it's not your thyroid, but it's easy enough for them to check your thyroid levels and see. They sent me home with Vicodin for the pain, and I needed it! Whatever it is, I hope you get relief for your throat pain soon. I'm sitting here remembering how much it hurt, so you have my sympathies. :o)

Agree with above, call that doc back - sm
23 days is nuts. My period is about 5 days (not on BC) and it generally wipes me out energy wise, other than that I cannot tell I even have it though. But that is way to long, if you were not anemic before you probably are now, which would definitely make you very tired. Tell your co-worker to stuff it.
Agree! A new school would probably be the best
--
And here I do agree with you, which is why I don't want the school to have a legal right (sm)
to teach my child what the teacher personally thinks is right or wrong, but to let me as the parent do that. Yes, they will grow up and decide for themselves, but at that point I will have done what I felt was right.
I agree with the school's decision..
I am not Catholic, but I would think that parents send their children to private religious schools precisely to keep them away from things such as this.
I agree, no teacher should call a student 'retard', t
and try to convince his peers to drop this name calling.
It's not funny and if it goes on for a long time, it's labeling.
I so don't agree w/you...Oprah built a school in...

you think she would have built the school for girls somewhere NEAR DARFUR where they are beyond poor.  The people in S. Africa have lots and lots of $$ and as a matter of fact, I read about Oprah's school there, that the kids there had their CELL phones taken away and that the rule is the parents cannot visit unless they get written permission from her school.  KIDS WHO HAVE CELLPHONES go to her school....HOW POOR ARE THESE CHILDREN, really....

get real please...........

Have to agree. Most people know cost of that school and it is
xx
Oh, I agree. Did no one learn about plurals in elementary school??
nm
Agree, my cousin works in a similar type of school
a grammar school no less, and kids are doing sexual acts in the stairwells, etc. It is a very screwed up world where age 11 has become the new 18; passing gas is the least of our worries.
I agree completely with Jerrie, Call your local Division of Family Services and they can help
tremendously, especially if she is a danger to herself or others. They can take custody of the elderly, as they can the young children, and protect them from all sorts of abuse, including themselves. You will not be a bad person for doing this, but perhaps a Godsend.

My prayers are with you.
Good advice was given here. Suggest vet check-up for kitty needs vet check. sm
I've had 2 females over the years who developed stones/crystals in urine or UTIs.  Both of them started spraying inappropriately.  Never had a female spray inappropriately other than in these instances.  They go into spasm and can't help themselves.  If it is a urinary problem, eventually you may see slight pink-tinged spray if it gets that far untreated due to the irritation from constantly trying to pee.  One more thought is if the kitty is not sick, maybe the other cat won't let her use the litter box for some reason.  Maybe set up another box for her.
Sounds like my kids...on a school day "we just got home from school!" on a vacation day....sm
But this is our vacation! My husband takes vacation days and leaves town without us...lol! He would never dream of taking a day off to work around the house!
How is the school's fault if Johnny comes to school armed?
And how is the school's fault if off campus people are getting jumped? Everybody wants to blame the schools, but the reason places have gone "zero tolerance" is because every parent whose kid gets popped for an illegal weapon says, "Oh, my little pookie wouldn't do that." Which is exactly what the parents of every perpetrator of school violence has said. At 15, this girl should have been aware that it was verboten and, if they felt that strongly it was necessary, kept it hidden. If she is not capable of thinking that part through, maybe she shouldn't be trusted with pepper spray anyway.
How is this kid in school with chronic infestation? School nurse

In our school district you can go to any school that you want
but you actually have to pay if you don't live in the District. The private schools here are outrageously priced. You could almost send your child to a community college for the amount they charge.
What an awesome post! I agree, agree, agree completely with you.
You are right on the money in my book!
You might want to check out the
New MT/Student board.  There are lots of posts there that would probably interest you like which schools are good and those sorts of things.  It is tough to get started unless you work on-site or are willing to take a cut in pay at first.  Good luck to you and congrats on the new baby.
Well, what do you know?? Check this out
Maybe this would work with candles too!?!?

Hmm...may have to check into that
is it very expensive (if you don't mind me asking) I'll have to go check out their website.  Thanks for the info!
Check-N-Go
Be very careful with those things. I'm in Florida and have used Check-n-Go here locally. Not sure if they have an online site, but they are very reputable.
You should check with....sm
the manufacturer of your laminate to see what they recommend.

Good luck with the dog on the rug. My sister just put in hardwood floors and their also 10-year-old Pomeranian is having a horrible time trying to walk on it.
I need to check that out

I've heard of them, actually on this board, I think. I checked them out at the time but didn't do any more than that. Maybe it's time to get one and do a pre-emptive cleansing the moment I feel symptoms coming on again.

Thanks!

Um, yes but would check that out thoroughly
a couple of neighborhoods in NJ were named this year, including where I grew up, and what a joke!

One is a town they were recently calling the *cancer cluster* and investigating due to the chemical plants and extremely high cancer rates.

It is also where they built million dollar homes smack in the middle of normal moderate priced homes and then also not too far away from the bunch of low income housing/projects they added over the years.

Well when a couple of these million dollar couples went to the public schools for the first time, they cried! Actually cried. Guess they didn't do their *homework* (no pun intended) before buying. It's been said they can't afford private school because the big deals strapped themselves just to live there. Oh well.

As for me, I'd never buy a house there and I moved away!

My family and friends are convinced the magazine was paid off or maybe somebody knows somebody, like everything else. Wouldn't doubt it. : )

Thank you...I will check it out!! nm

I had to check the

My friend's husband is in the hospital.  He went into the ER at 7:00 Sunday night with a blood sugar of 600! At midnight, the ER clerk gave my friend a bill for $9000.  I have never heard of them giving you a bill so fast!  At 4:30 a.m., he went into the ICU. P.S. He is doing better, and as far as I know, no more bills yet...
Check out....

It does cost. I think I paid $40 for 1 year, but it covers every subject and has all kinds of worksheets to print out.
You could check....

I don't know if they will be more expensive or not, or even if they will have exactly what you want, but they carry a lot of different brands/styles.
I did check that out....SM
and they do carry Tabletop Gallery, but not the pattern, Winterland, that I want.  I appreciate your advice!
Thank you so much! I will check!!

She could check...
the CDC website for faster information. They should have information on there about MRSA and exposure risks. If not, I believe they have a number on the site where you can call the offices and request information.
Please take him to the vet to check

Thanks! I'm going to check them out!

Wow...check this out!
A doctor in Colorado found a surprise when removing what he thought was a benign growth from a newborn's brain. Instead of a microscopic tumor, out popped a tiny foot, partially formed hand, a thigh and another partially formed foot.

thanks, we should all check it out
Just checking out the website gave me enough inspiration to get to the bedroom closet today.
I'd have to check into it
I couldn't stand not knowing...in fact, I can't stand not knowing. I had a very similar situation a year ago but it was a phone call, not a note. I'm still not sure of the truth, which is very hard. Good luck and God bless
