And here I do agree with you, which is why I don't want the school to have a legal right (sm)

In Reply to: Bingo, Shelly! - I agree with you. sm

to teach my child what the teacher personally thinks is right or wrong, but to let me as the parent do that. Yes, they will grow up and decide for themselves, but at that point I will have done what I felt was right.

completely agree w/your point on legal/illegal, but sm
I wish the outrage regarding illegals was across the board. When it comes to Mexicans, since they benefit big business and since their only dirty business is under their fingernails, it's okay.

I'm just saying we shouldn't have one standard for one religion or race and a different one for another.
Agree! A new school would probably be the best
--
I agree with the school's decision..
I am not Catholic, but I would think that parents send their children to private religious schools precisely to keep them away from things such as this.
I so don't agree w/you...Oprah built a school in...

you think she would have built the school for girls somewhere NEAR DARFUR where they are beyond poor.  The people in S. Africa have lots and lots of $$ and as a matter of fact, I read about Oprah's school there, that the kids there had their CELL phones taken away and that the rule is the parents cannot visit unless they get written permission from her school.  KIDS WHO HAVE CELLPHONES go to her school....HOW POOR ARE THESE CHILDREN, really....

get real please...........

I agree call the school to check sm

on the availability of tickets.   If it is outside and rains they usually put a limit on the tickets.   My mom who lives in my State could not see my daughter graduate because it rained and we only were allowed two tickets for the auditorium and one ticket for the big screen in another room where my daughter had to watch.    Definitely check the circumstances.

I would just say no and travel another time.

Have to agree. Most people know cost of that school and it is
xx
Oh, I agree. Did no one learn about plurals in elementary school??
nm
Agree, my cousin works in a similar type of school
a grammar school no less, and kids are doing sexual acts in the stairwells, etc. It is a very screwed up world where age 11 has become the new 18; passing gas is the least of our worries.
Call the school. I had a threat like this in my high school and they cancelled school that day.
Thankfully, because the person making the threats was found with material for home made pipe bombs and quit a bit of ammunition and a shotgun. He was arrested and charged. Never allowed back in the school.

I think it would be safer to call the school and get classes cancelled for a day to investigate versus make a scene in the parking lot, especially if the student with the knife is inside with the knife.

Good luck. If nothing happens, pull your child out of school for a week. See what happens. I know that sounds horrible, but small towns is where this happens most often.
Sounds like my kids...on a school day "we just got home from school!" on a vacation day....sm
But this is our vacation! My husband takes vacation days and leaves town without us...lol! He would never dream of taking a day off to work around the house!
I can see no way this is legal. sm
Do you know who this doc's attorney is? I'd love to hear his take on it. :)
How legal is this??
I have a worker at my home and he is from another country. He tells me he became a citizen of the US about 3 months ago (he has dual now) but get this- says he wants to retire around 55, move back to his country and then the way he figures, be able to get SS from our country. I guess Uncle Sam figures a way for us all to pay thru the nose!
Legal.
If you have a commodity that YOU want to sell, and someone else wants to buy, it's your business. Many men pay "normal women" with dinner and a movie, with the same intent. At least allow the woman to decide how to spend it!

legal. Why not?
what a disgusting way to live your life but why should anybody have the right to tell you not to do so?
WOO HOO!!! i would much rather that be legal
x
Wow, is that legal?
don't know but sure isn't very nice. What if your mom ends up needing the money if her retirement funds run out? I'll have to read over POA that I have for my mom, think somewhere there might be a note about acting responsibly in handling the funds? So sorry, terrible thing to happen with family and really hard to pursue if you don't have a lot of money to get into a legal battle!
as I know it - it's legal to pay in April...sm

you might want to just call any CPA's office or H&R Block office to ask that question and I don't think it varies state by state because it's the federales!  *grin*

As long as it is ALL paid in by 4/15 - I think you're 100% fine.  Why should they keep my $$ and use it all year? I can use it until then...*giggles*

Only difference, is most were legal and
not anymore. I do not want to pay more taxes and they pay ??? none perhaps to cover them. I pay enough as it is without adding on extra mouths to my taxes.
Don't know about the legal aspect

But I watch gardening shows all the time. There is a special metal barrier you can get that as I recall comes in different sizes, as much as 3' deep, so once you eradicate the vines on your side of the fence you can put the barrier down right along the fence line to keep the vines from growing in your yard again.

You will probably just have to cut the vines that come over on your side of the fence yourself. Obviously the neighbors aren't going to do anything about it.

If it were me, I would get several estimates from local landscaping firms and take these people to small claims court for the amount it would take to fix the problem. Even if you win, I don't know if you will actually get any money from them. It depends on the laws in your state and how responsive the courts are about enforcing their rulings. I really don't know enough to say anything about that.

Again, if it were me, when I was getting the landscaping done, I would tell the landscaper to spray Roundup or whatever kind of herbicide will kill trumpet vines right along the fence and through the slats as much as possible. If it kills the neighbor's trumpet vine, too bad. My heart bleeds.

Am I a mean person? No. But I think people should take responsibility for the messes they make and take care of recitfying them.

JMHO

It is legal in Nevada.
x
Prostitution should be legal
Sure it should be legal. It should be taxed and those women should be given 401k's, profit sharing, and health benefits.
what about alcohol? that's legal
x
It is legal in Nevada and they have to
have medical exams, etc. A lot safer than getting it out on the streets anywhere else.
Legal Drinking Age
Many of the states that have chosen to specifically prohibit alcohol consumption by those under age 21 have a variety of exceptions. For example,

Some States allow an exception for consumption when a family member consents and/or is present. States vary widely in terms of which relatives may consent or must be present for this exception to apply and in what circumstances the exception applies. Sometimes a reference is made simply to "family" or "family member" without further elaboration.

....

Some States allow an exception for consumption on private property. States vary in the extent of the private property exception which may extend to all private locations, private residences only, or in the home of a parent or guardian only. In some jurisdictions, the location exception is conditional on the presence and/or consent of the parent, legal guardian, or legal-age spouse.

Some States also allow exceptions for educational purposes (e.g., students in culinary schools), religious purposes (e.g., sacramental use of alcoholic beverages), or medical purposes.

How is the school's fault if Johnny comes to school armed?
And how is the school's fault if off campus people are getting jumped? Everybody wants to blame the schools, but the reason places have gone "zero tolerance" is because every parent whose kid gets popped for an illegal weapon says, "Oh, my little pookie wouldn't do that." Which is exactly what the parents of every perpetrator of school violence has said. At 15, this girl should have been aware that it was verboten and, if they felt that strongly it was necessary, kept it hidden. If she is not capable of thinking that part through, maybe she shouldn't be trusted with pepper spray anyway.
How is this kid in school with chronic infestation? School nurse

Take this to a lawyer. Fight for him. This cannot be legal.

General legal matter
Definitely take pictures to use in your defense and when you remove those vines from your house, take pictures of the removal of paint too. Most state laws allow you to control whatever is growing over your house, fence and/or yard that results from a neighbor but if you trim their plants that are on your property and happen to kill the entire tree, plant or vine, your neighbor can make you replace them. It's a matter that has no winning situation because you have to live by these people. I say get a free estimate from a landscaper and get an estimate from a painter also, talk to someone in the legal system and see exactly what your options are, and move forward to bring this problem to an end. Once you find out what action you can take, if any, tell your neighbor what you are planning to do and if they do not take care of the problem, you will move forward as planned. No way would I let this go on without doing something about it. Good luck.
Sounds like the legal system
is trying to leave the discipline to the boy's parent. Is that so bad?

Lowering the legal drinking age from 21 to 18

I didn't know this was going on.....

The article is long so I didn't copy all of it. See the link below:

College presidents from about 100 of the nation's best-known universities, including Duke, Dartmouth and Ohio State, are calling on lawmakers to consider lowering the drinking age from 21 to 18, saying current laws actually encourage dangerous binge drinking on campus.

The movement called the Amethyst Initiative began quietly recruiting presidents more than a year ago to provoke national debate about the drinking age.

"This is a law that is routinely evaded," said John McCardell, former president of Middlebury College in Vermont who started the organization.

"It is a law that the people at whom it is directed believe is unjust and unfair and discriminatory."

Is it legal to keep a wild deer as a pet? sm
Someone has had a wild pet deer for a pet in our subdivision for a few years now.  I am a serious animal lover myself, but it has gotten rather old having this deer roaming through the roads and, most of all, eating landscape plants down to nothing.  We have sprayed deer repellent on nearly everything, but the one little area we miss will be chewed right away.  Besides, we have to keep doing it over and over and this stuff is not cheap.  Really getting tiresome.  Do not want to be mean, but what rights do the homeowners in here have??
Rhapsody is a pay site, so it's legal. sm
According to their website:

"MP3s that play anywhere: When you buy a song or an album from Rhapsody, you can put it on your iPod or any other MP3 players, play it on your computer, or burn it to a CD as many times as you want."

Any MP3 file should be able to be put on your computer, iPod, and just about any MP3 player, also on many/most cell phones.
While I don't remember drugs ever being legal
I do know there was a time in this country where "recreational" drugs were legal. After all, that is where Coca Cola got it's name from (from the cocaine that use to be in it). From what I've read, seems to me there wasn't a problem with drugs in this country until it was made illegal ala prohibition. Now due to it being illegal, there is tons of money flowing in a lot of different directions as a result (the millions of jails that are being build to house all the recreational users, etc. plus the money that is made selling it, etc.). Heck, even though it's illegal, it's big business, so I can see everybody that's involved in it regardless of what side they are on fighting to keep it illegal.

YOU so wrong, your SIL IS a legal heir,
since when your brother (her husband) died, SHE WAS STILL MARRIED TO HIM!

Do you want to fight or ignore the fact that the wife inherits from her husband?

So is your nephew, a legal heir.

These 2 are still alive, aren't they?

DO A LITTLE MORE EFFORT THAN THE INSURANCE COMPANY DID AND LOCATE THEM AND GIVE THEM THEIR INHERITANCE MONEY!

The insurance company looked only for 1 year, they do not care to whom they give the money, they have to pay it anyways.
YOU should search longer!

The fact that your newphew was in prison does not disqualify him to get his inheritance from his father or gandfather...

Legit but I would think you have to get a background in legal
because as a scopist you have to go through a court reporters work, basically editing it, don’t know about the pay but you have to be able to work with legal terms. There is a computer program used but if something does not go through on that, then I think you have to revert to using the old way and that would be to read the tapes (like the grocery store tape they used to type on) so I would think school would be in order for this job but it is legit.
General legal matter... maybe somenoe knows

I was wondering if anybody has had this happen to them or someone they know.  I have a problem with neighbors to one side of me who have trumpet vines. These are very invasive and they grow very fast.  When I first moved into my house 10 years ago, they were confined to a very small area along our shared fence.  Now, 10 years later, they are all along the length of the fence, are not being kept trimmed or confined, are reaching the roof of my house, growing inside my garage, behind the washer/dryer, etc.  When I pull them off the side of my house (the side out front where I never go except to wash the windows in the garage once a year) the paint comes off with the leaves, leaving bare spots on the wood.  This is a spot the neighbors can clearly see when they are doing their lawn work.  They sit there and watch the vines grow up the side of my house without even pulling them out, knowing what it does to my paint.

The roots from the vines are now invading most of my back yard, and they grow about a foot (no joke) a week, so by the time I mow the lawn again, they are way above the height of the grass, sticking out all over.  Now my lawn is ruined, and every year it is just getting worse.  In order to get rid of the vines completely from my yard and property, it will have to be dug up and replaced, and even then it won't do any good because the neighbors have them all over their property and don't care if they have them growing on their roof.

I have contacted the city, and there is no law on this sort of thing, they told me it would be a civil matter, i.e., small claims court.  I have asked the neighbors countless numbers of times to at least make an effort to keep them contained, and they may cut a little here and there, but a week later, there they are again.  I'm done asking.

My question is this, has anybody actually gone through with a small claims suit against somebody for this or similar reasons, and what was the outcome?  I have been checking around and it falls under destruction of property and lowering the value of my home.  Thanks for all comments.

It's absolutely legal because he's earning it like any other US citizen.
You can move to another country and make your retirement money go further, too. The advantage he has, though, is that he already feels comfortable living in another country.
There is free legal assistance for cases like this (sm)
Look up Legal Aid for your area - if I find a link I will post it for you. I think you need to report what your son has told you to someone!!! Who ordered the visitation? Get in touch with that office and start from there finding out who to report it to.
Get over it. Abortion is legal, and American women

Oh my goodness that's terrible! Do you know here it is legal for people to have them as PETS!? (s
Stay inside and be safe! There is a shelter here for them (NC) because people get them as pets when they are cute little cubs and then many abandon them as soon as they start growing larger, with no thought of the safety of other people!
Is it legal to evict a long-term tenant - sm

who has always paid the rent on time, simply because they want to 'remodel'?  I've lived here for close to 20 years, and just today out of the blue, the manager walks up and hands me an eviction notice!  I was like, "Huh????" and he said they wanted to "renovate".   But my unit, only.   I guess others have gotten new rugs, appliances, etc. as tenants have come and go, but I've been here forever (and pay rent that is considerbly below market).   I've lived here forever, don't drink, never had a party, keep it pretty clean, etc.   The heater, oven, fridge, bathroom fixtures, etc., are old, but still in perfectly good working condition.  So, I asked if I'd be able to come back afterward, and the manager said they were going to raise the rent (to far more than I can afford) once the renovation is complete.

So my question is --  Do you think it's legal to evict a tenant just because you want to put in a new rug, new paint, etc., and charge more to the next tenant?  I'm thinking about calling a lawyer, but don't know if I have a case or not.  If I move, I'm going to have to go at least 60-70 miles away, in order to find affordable rent.

In our school district you can go to any school that you want
but you actually have to pay if you don't live in the District. The private schools here are outrageously priced. You could almost send your child to a community college for the amount they charge.
