I am planning several long weekends this summer for mini-vacations.

We are going to drive up to the Omaha Zoo for a weekend.  We live in rural Missouri north of Kansas City, so it's about a three or four hour drive.

Then, we have a family reunion in southern Missouri and I'm planning a 4-day weekend for that so we can spend some time in the Ozarks.

Then, we will go into Kansas City to Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun.

Then, I'm planning a four-day weekend in Branson.

So I guess we are going to explore our state too!

Plus we have a public pool in our town that the kids spend a lot of time at.  Then there is girl scout camp for my daughter.  My son will be getting a job this summer as he's 16 now and mom can't afford gas for my car and his car and to pay for his dates all of the time.

As you can see I try to keep my kids as busy as possible!  There is nothing worse than bored children when you're trying to work!

It's going to be a long summer. I need advice....sm
on how to handle the neighborhood bully.  He's 11 years old and probably weighs 250 pounds.  He's very immature and very pushy and overbearing with the other kids in the neighborhood.  We live in a townhouse and there are 13 townhouses in this particular area.  My daughter is 9.  There are 4 girls and 3 boys, all ranging in age from 4 to 13.  We have lived here for 2 years and have never had any problems until the bully moved in.  At first he was very nice but I guess he is getting comfortable now and his true colors are coming out.  We had an incident last night and I had to go out and take care of it. His mother wasn't home at the time and as soon as she got home she marched right over to my apt. demanding to know "what was going on."  After my conversation with her I began to understand why the bully is like he is.  Anyway, I have told my daughter she has to stay in front of our townhouses and is not to go anywhere else.  The other kids are welcome to come here and play but not the bully.  If I have to I will enroll her in something part-time for the summer.  It makes me mad that you have to punish the good kids because of 1 bad egg.  I told the mother it was a shame that the rest of the neighborhood had to pay the price because of the way her son acted.  Of course, she had every excuse in the world for his behavior but I think it just boils down to lack of discipline and lack of interest on the parents' part.  He is going to be home unsupervised all summer along with a little 5-year-old brother that the mother is getting for the summer.  And 2 girls are also going to be home all day unsupervised.  One is 13 and the other 8 but they too are very immature for their age.  I'm just aggravated.  What is wrong with today's parents?
N.E. weekends

Here are some ideas that we have done (mom, dad, 8yo DD, 5yo DS):

1. Maine coast - Wells/Ogunquit area.  Nice beaches, trolley museum, Portland Children's museum, which is great for kids, good restaurants. We go here every year.

2. Lake George - This year we went and went to Six Flags, Fort William Henry, walked around the village shops, ice cream, nice hotel with indoor pool which the kids loved.

3. New Hampshire - A couple years ago we stayed at the Lincoln Head Resort and the kids loved it!  Lots of stuff right at the hotel - good restaurant, indoor and outdoor pools, paddle boats, kids activities.  A little drive from there was Storyland amusement park, Santa's Village amusement park, each of which take a day or a good part of a day, both of which the kids loved.

4. I live  literally down the road from Six Flags New England, and there is actually quit a bit to do around here.  Spend the day at Six Flags (I think it's a nicer park than the Lake George one).  New Basketball Hall of Fame.  Yankee Candle Flagship store and restauarant in Deerfield (aobut a 1/2 hour drive up 91).  The musuems at the Springfield Quadrangle (musuem of fine arts, another art museum, historical museum, and science museum and planetarium, Dr. Suess Memorial).  Also, Heritage Park in Holyoke (not a great area but the park is a good day for the kids) with antique carousel and Children's museum (we actually spend the day there and make a picnic lunch).

Of all of these trips we have taken, the highlight of my 5yo son's vacation was, not kidding, the "little fridge" in the room.  Go figure!

Just some ideas though...Where are you coming from?

No weekends
Just Monday through Friday 6 hours in the morning and 2 hours at night.
What are you doing on the weekends

Luckily, our library is close by and so is the movie store (although still spending money there) and a school is three streets away so we take frequent bike rides up there and let the kids play on the playground.  Still, though - it's going to be a VERY long summer if I don't come up with some other ideas!

I already spend 120.00 a week in gas just getting to my job so the thought of using even a gallon of gas on the weekends just makes me cringe!

One of my fav holiday weekends, second

Saturday, we have a huge craft show to go to, followed by 3 baseball games of my boys', followed by some serious picnicking Saturday evening.

As for Sunday, fairly relaxing, a little work in the morning and evening, visiting family in the afternoon and picnicking some more.

Monday should be a fairly quiet day - a little work in the morning and evening, a late morning Memorial Day parade and early afternoon picnicking, maybe a movie with the kids!

Love this weekend -- gets me started on a great summer!

Either vacations in Vermont when I was
very little, either at the cottages on the beach or picking raspberries at the top of my grandmother's hill, or else at a friend's house, riding tobaggans down her long hill in WI, each person with their own sled, lying down, going feet first, looking up at the stars. After the hill there was a long flat field you'd keep sliding on for a long, long time.
School-Vacations
We took our vacation during April break. My daughters go back to school two days after Labor Day. We did take a few short trips this summer, though.
Let me guess -- one of the vacations is to
Vegas?
Vacations in California

Hi everyone,

The post below got me thinking...I live in WA, and I just wondered - from what I know, the nice beaches I know about in CA are private ones in Malibu.  Are there any beautiful, clean beaches in CA that you can take your family to when on vacation?  I love the beaches in Mexico, but would like to stay in the US.  What do you recommend, if you live there?

Ditto!...Vacations are for relaxing and..
forgetting about work! Unless you really need the money, how about just taking time to enjoy life? You will not remember the shoes you bought or the big screen TV, but you will remember the beautiful day surrounded by nature!
After school starts usually vacations end. nm

Why would you take vacations when you're in such debt?
The money for those planned vacations could be paid towards your credit card. If you're income in increasing soon, why not apply the increase to the bills until the debt is gone and then reward yourself with a nice vacation that you save up for?
Maybe a mini-makeover would
give you a confidence boost. Never hurts to go to a highly recommended hair stylist and see what they might suggest to update your look. You could go to one where they do makeup also. Ulta does both.

I love to watch What Not to Wear to see how big a change can be made and to get ideas. Sometimes the difference is huge, and they don't call it "being on the market" for nothing, LOL.
Dell Mini
With a mini, can you do everything that you can do with a laptop?
Anyone remember Mini-Poo? ...
For those who don't know, Mini-Poo was a product to put on your hair to prevent it from getting oily (it was like a talcum poweder). Well, I thought it was a great idea and I was sitting in class in high school one day and my best friend was sitting in back of me. She mentioned how nice my hair looked that day and as she said it she patted the back of my hair and, you guessed it, the Mini-Poo looked like smoke coming out of my hair. She couldn't help but laugh....it was embarrassing as everyone in back of me noticed it.
There are many rescues for mini pinpins
We just purchased a puggle and she has been very gentle, and very smart. Not one accident even in her kennel at night. She is a big baby though and doesn't like to be alone, a lap dog pretty much, but has playful moments too. If you are looking for an indoor dog you might want to check them out or the mini pinpins. Good luck to you, whatever you get, I am a firm believer that like children the "parenting" is what is going to make the difference in a good dog or bad one. :)
Well, for one thing, Cash Cab in a mini-van, not a car.

Why a mini-strike? Keep it up and they will step up

Maybe he had some kind of a mini-stroke or something, and it

Asian chicken mini skewers
Marinate cubed chicken breast, about 2", in Teriyaki sauce with lemon zest overnite in a storage back. Soak wooden (round)toothpicks in water about 30 mintues before skewering. Set oven to 400º. Skewer once piece of chicken per toothpick. Place on lightly sprayed cookie sheet. Bake for about 10 minutes. If you want, heat the left over sauce on the stove for 20 minutes, until reduced. (You must cook it before using it to avoid contamination). Braise chicken skewers with sauce reduction immediately after removing from oven.
mini-dauchsands - maggie and milo
Maggie and Milo. both girls. Last one was Ginger - also a mini-dauchsand - she died at the age of 18.
Mini-marshmallow shooters. Saw them in a catalog (sm)

thought they might be a fun for grandchildren.  Will their mom kill me?  It says for outdoor fun, but you can imagine they will be shooting them inside at least once.  They are pretty good about picking up after themselves though.

ANyone have/used these and tell me if I am going to get in hot water if I buy them some. TIA.

Thanks, but I planning on being
right in the ocean with them or my husband will be.  We've been to the beaches in Florida and have never let the children go out alone.  But thanks for the reminder.  Glad to hear your situation turned out okay.
thank you so much..i am planning to ask the mgr for new apt...sm

I have lived in apartments all my live and have never experienced anything as noxious as this lady's smoke, and I have lived above smokers for years and years but this is extreme.  Thank you all so much for your comments, since my DH does not care to exert himself, it is all on me, and so I will ask for another apt.  It's just a shame that they can't help with the expenses.  If that doesn't work, maybe something private.  Thanks again.  I sincerely appreciate your great advice.

Exactly what to you mean by not planning
x
As I was saying. Your own children. I love mini yorkies and when my kids
are old enough, I will get one from her. I have bought a lot of things for her dogs and do not resent her at all for not coming to see me. I am very emotionally healthy, have a great relationship with Christ as my savior, but actually feel sorry for her that she is missing out on so much because she refuses to leave her dogs. How can that be at all healthy? And you say you don't want to be around your family because they are not dog lovers? So what? Whenever our family gets together we ALL have things that the other person does or doesn't do, but we still love them as PEOPLE. My mom misses out on a lot and I feel for HER.

As a Biblical Christian, we are called to love others (she is too), and reach out to others. It says absolutelly nothing about keeping your family and friends out of your lives because "they don't like your dogs" or because you don't think they love you if they don't accept your dogs. What an enormously selfish way to live your life.
I am terrible about no pre-planning
I often go to the grocery store 3 or 4 times a week. I love to watch the cooking channel when I have time. Robin Miller has a show that usually shows how to cook a couple of times a week and take the leftovers and use for another meal. She now has out a cookbook so that might be a great place to start.
Not if you are planning on baking
Wax paper will melt wax into your foods if you are baking. That being said, if you are making a cake you can butter the pan, both sides of the wax paper, and place the wax paper on the bottom of the pan wax side down, putting your batter on top.  You can also use wax paper to steam. If you are planning on baking using direct oven heat (where the paper will be exposed directly to the enviornment around it) I would not suggest it.
If you think that one little hour or less of planning
These teachers don't get anything done on their planning period, because they're too busy calling parents who won't respond, trying to actually FIND a parent, talking to a student who is obviously having problems at home which is affecting their performance at school. They don't get paid to be a mentor, surrogate mom, social worker, assistance program, etc., but most good teachers do this becaue they genuinely care for their kids. That "planning period" is a joke!
Are you planning the party for the day your son
If not, then wait for the wedding date, and then decide on the graduation party.  Believe me, I know where you're coming from.
BWT....I am planning on quitting......sm
in January and a couple of other posters and I are forming a support group.  I promise we would never get tired of you!  Won't you join us?  Maybe the 7th time is a charm!!!!
Planning an overnight bus trip to NYC...
bags after we check out of our hotel on the 2nd day?  I don't want to have to carry my luggage around all day.  Surely others have run into this problem.  Anyone have any ideas??  Thanks a bunch!!!
Most teachers have at least one planning period when they
can grade papers. If their job requires work-related hours away from school, they are given comp time.
I was planning on making a flower bed there
with several good-sized bushes such as hydrangea and/or forsythia. Hopefully that would take care of the problem, especially since we don't plan to get any other pets (we're mid-50s, want to travel, plus I don't think I can go through this pain again).
Please start planning your escape...sm

I am joining in your children's pleas to get out of this situation.  I found this website:

http://www.helpguide.org/mental/domestic_violence_abuse_help_treatment_prevention.htm

Please take a look at it, and then call the number they give for the National Domestic Violence Hotline.  I am assuming/hoping they would know how to guide you.  NO ONE should have to live like you are.  Best of luck to you and your children.

I am planning as we speak to move in the next . . .
1-2 years.  I have lived and traveled all over and have been in Georgia for almost 20 years.  I hate this backwards state!!  I am originally from Virginia and that's where I want to live out the rest of my life.  It is the best and truly God's country.
No, but I love that my neighbor's mini yorkie is named ZEUS! haha nm
,
If you aren't planning on more children, I would have the surgery.

Planning a trip to New York City and
was looking for suggestions on a nice hotel to stay in and what are some of the best sites to see. Will only be there for four days at the end of May and want to cram as much in as possible.
Okay, planning a trip to see some snow (first in 10 years). Here's what I need! sm

Where can I go just north of Atlanta, GA, to see a good amount of snow that isn't too far? I have no clue! I'm thinking around mid Dec. Want to take the kids.  With or without hubby. I'm not looking to snow ski, just take them to see snow for the first time in their lives.  NC? TN? I have no idea!

Would this have made you mad - husband planning trip

My husband has a habit of making plans and then telling me where I am expected to be without discussing it with me first. This drives me crazy and I have asked him many times to stop.  He also makes lots of plans for himself for weekend and sometimes 3 or 4 day trips and just e-mails me a note to put it on my calendar, without asking if I mind.  He does this all the time.

Yesterday he came home from work and announced that "Joe and I are planning a family trip for this summer, so start saving your money."  I said, oh is Joe your wife now?? Do you think you could ask me if I want to go there before you tell me to save my money?"  So he got really angry and started yelling at me that I never understand anything.  I told him I like to be treated as an equal in the marriage and that I would not plan a trip for him without discussing it with him.  It is a HUGE trip, to California, and we live in NC.  I would have been happy if he came home and suggested it to see what I thought..but I was angry that he planned it out that way. He wants us to go with a family that I have never met.  My kids are elementary age and their kids are in high school.  The two men would be in conferences all day so this other lady and her kids and me and my kids are expected to hang out together.  He is very furious with me for not being receptive to this whole plan.  Should I have not been mad?

manicure/pedicure salon gift cert or mini spa day. They love that stuff! (me too) nm

The best thing for dirty diapers - mini diaper bags at the dollar store that sm
smell like powder. You get 50 to a bag - they are little blue plastic bags. Tie the poopie up tight in the bag and VOILA! throw it in your trash and no smell!
Depends if it is long with pregnant pause um no. If it is long and juicy like an op YEP! Short ones

Planning on using mine for chicken tonight - We love it!
We use it a couple times a week!
For those people with school aged children when do vacations start to dwindle and you start getting
ready for school.  I usually take a vacation when things slow down at the end of Summer and I am just wondering when in August most people start getting into school things and less vacations are taken.
Maybe learn some life planning skills before bringing blessings into the world that you can't aff
and not very responsible or mature.

How long is too long to wait for Pap results?
This is a follow up Pap for an abnormal one a few months back.  I have waited for the results for over a month and have called the office once.  Any advised about being a patient patient - LOL.  Its hard when your in this business, I think anyway, not to be more aggressive about stuff like this.
it is the same in summer or

thanks for the ideas tho!

I am 37 and went through this the summer before
I have lumpy or fibrotic breasts too.  A lump was found on the right side.  I also had tender breasts with some pain once a while.  The lump I had was excised and completely benign.  I've been right where you are with two children and a husband that was worried to death.  We got through it together and it turned out benign.  I had three opinions all stating it needed to be biopsied.  The images are to try to delineate the mass.  You'll be in my prayers, but I decided to see a different surgeon because the surgeon that excised my mass had a terrible office staff.  The surgeon I see now states that lots of women have lumps and that if they excised every lump from every breast they've palpated, there would be a heck of a lot of women walking around with surgical scars.  It is better to be safe than sorry, but I wouldn't worry too much if I was you that this is a malignant mass.  However, if God forbid it is, then you have found it early.  Take care and God Bless.  Feel free to e-mail me if you have other questions.
