Planning an overnight bus trip to NYC...
bags after we check out of our hotel on the 2nd day?  I don't want to have to carry my luggage around all day.  Surely others have run into this problem.  Anyone have any ideas??  Thanks a bunch!!!
Okay, planning a trip to see some snow (first in 10 years). Here's what I need! sm

Where can I go just north of Atlanta, GA, to see a good amount of snow that isn't too far? I have no clue! I'm thinking around mid Dec. Want to take the kids.  With or without hubby. I'm not looking to snow ski, just take them to see snow for the first time in their lives.  NC? TN? I have no idea!

Would this have made you mad - husband planning trip

My husband has a habit of making plans and then telling me where I am expected to be without discussing it with me first. This drives me crazy and I have asked him many times to stop.  He also makes lots of plans for himself for weekend and sometimes 3 or 4 day trips and just e-mails me a note to put it on my calendar, without asking if I mind.  He does this all the time.

Yesterday he came home from work and announced that "Joe and I are planning a family trip for this summer, so start saving your money."  I said, oh is Joe your wife now?? Do you think you could ask me if I want to go there before you tell me to save my money?"  So he got really angry and started yelling at me that I never understand anything.  I told him I like to be treated as an equal in the marriage and that I would not plan a trip for him without discussing it with him.  It is a HUGE trip, to California, and we live in NC.  I would have been happy if he came home and suggested it to see what I thought..but I was angry that he planned it out that way. He wants us to go with a family that I have never met.  My kids are elementary age and their kids are in high school.  The two men would be in conferences all day so this other lady and her kids and me and my kids are expected to hang out together.  He is very furious with me for not being receptive to this whole plan.  Should I have not been mad?

New York City

Does anyone know if New York City is extremely crowded on Black Friday? I'm going on a bus trip that day to do some shopping. Just curious if it was as crowded that day as it was the week before Christmas.

Didn't she grow up in New York City?
What does she know about the South?
Thanks, but I planning on being
right in the ocean with them or my husband will be.  We've been to the beaches in Florida and have never let the children go out alone.  But thanks for the reminder.  Glad to hear your situation turned out okay.
thank you so much..i am planning to ask the mgr for new apt...sm

I have lived in apartments all my live and have never experienced anything as noxious as this lady's smoke, and I have lived above smokers for years and years but this is extreme.  Thank you all so much for your comments, since my DH does not care to exert himself, it is all on me, and so I will ask for another apt.  It's just a shame that they can't help with the expenses.  If that doesn't work, maybe something private.  Thanks again.  I sincerely appreciate your great advice.

Exactly what to you mean by not planning
x
I am terrible about no pre-planning
I often go to the grocery store 3 or 4 times a week. I love to watch the cooking channel when I have time. Robin Miller has a show that usually shows how to cook a couple of times a week and take the leftovers and use for another meal. She now has out a cookbook so that might be a great place to start.
Not if you are planning on baking
Wax paper will melt wax into your foods if you are baking. That being said, if you are making a cake you can butter the pan, both sides of the wax paper, and place the wax paper on the bottom of the pan wax side down, putting your batter on top.  You can also use wax paper to steam. If you are planning on baking using direct oven heat (where the paper will be exposed directly to the enviornment around it) I would not suggest it.
If you think that one little hour or less of planning
These teachers don't get anything done on their planning period, because they're too busy calling parents who won't respond, trying to actually FIND a parent, talking to a student who is obviously having problems at home which is affecting their performance at school. They don't get paid to be a mentor, surrogate mom, social worker, assistance program, etc., but most good teachers do this becaue they genuinely care for their kids. That "planning period" is a joke!
Are you planning the party for the day your son
If not, then wait for the wedding date, and then decide on the graduation party.  Believe me, I know where you're coming from.
BWT....I am planning on quitting......sm
in January and a couple of other posters and I are forming a support group.  I promise we would never get tired of you!  Won't you join us?  Maybe the 7th time is a charm!!!!
New York here also...hot....best way to go
in this weather is throw something on the grill, keeps cooking heat and mess outdoors.
Most teachers have at least one planning period when they
can grade papers. If their job requires work-related hours away from school, they are given comp time.
I was planning on making a flower bed there
with several good-sized bushes such as hydrangea and/or forsythia. Hopefully that would take care of the problem, especially since we don't plan to get any other pets (we're mid-50s, want to travel, plus I don't think I can go through this pain again).
Please start planning your escape...sm

I am joining in your children's pleas to get out of this situation.  I found this website:

http://www.helpguide.org/mental/domestic_violence_abuse_help_treatment_prevention.htm

Please take a look at it, and then call the number they give for the National Domestic Violence Hotline.  I am assuming/hoping they would know how to guide you.  NO ONE should have to live like you are.  Best of luck to you and your children.

I am planning as we speak to move in the next . . .
1-2 years.  I have lived and traveled all over and have been in Georgia for almost 20 years.  I hate this backwards state!!  I am originally from Virginia and that's where I want to live out the rest of my life.  It is the best and truly God's country.
Ewwwww! Thank God, NO, here in New York! nm

Gas $2.35 here in Upstate New York - NM

I go to New York every year...
and go to the special stores and get the real Coach bags for under $100 bucks. I have taken them to the Coach stores in our area and the sales people have verified they are real....I am going in May and have to pick up 5 for my girlfriends!
I'm upstate New York too -
I only lock my doors at night. For the first ten years we lived in our house, we had only one key and only used it when we came home from vacation.

Of course during the Saratoga track season, I get more careful. More burglaries in town.
I went to upstate New York and I could ...sm
detect an accent. Not a Bronx-like accent but a distinct accent. But then I'm from the south so I would have definitely noticed.
Here in New York State
My youngest in Kindergarten gets picked up at 9:00 and starts school at 9:30. My oldest in 9th grade gets picked up at 7:00 for school at 7:30. We have a lot of elementary schools. In our district it's one school for K-3, one school for 4-6, one for 7-9 and one 10-12. Also, we get two weeks for Christmas, one week for spring break in April (this week), plus they had Good Friday off, and one week in February (mid-winter break). I think we get out of school the latest of any State. The kids go to school until the end of June. I think they get way too much time off from school. We also have snow days together with 1-2 hour delays through the winter months in case of bad weather.
If you aren't planning on more children, I would have the surgery.

Here in New York State - school
isn't over until the 20th of June. I'm sure my daughter wishes she lives where you do. We don't go back until after Labor Day.
Leaving for New York tomorrow sm
with my family.  Watch for us in the Today Show audience.  I will be the one with the laptop so I won't fall behind in my work.    Just Kidding.
One of my favorite things in New York
Is this Middle Eastern chicken and rice pushcart outside the hilton hotel on 6th avenue and 55th(?). They are there from about 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is less than $5 for a huge plate, enough for 2. Really clean and very popular. Was a little leery the first time, but now go there every time I am in the Big Apple.
New York State Fair
My husband and I went once twenty one years ago, before we were married, and then just last year finally took our nearly-grown kids after getting tickets to see James Taylor there. We had a ball and plan to do it again this year - every year at Labor Day. It's about a 2-1/2 hour drive for us, and well worth the effort, though I think we're going to get a hotel room instead of making it all in one day this time.
It's in Verona, New York (Upstate) - NM

Freezing in Upstate New York
With the wind chill it's below O. A lot of snow too. I still have no idea why I live here! LOL.
Turn of the century in New York.
xx
Planning on using mine for chicken tonight - We love it!
We use it a couple times a week!
That's the way the advanced classes are run here in New York State
She took 9th grade classes last year and she's taking 10th grade classes this year with the exception of the science classes where they bump you up to 12th grade. She's also taking geometry and loves it so far. (As the school year goes on things may change).
If it was my child, I would be at that school in a hot New York minute.
Regardless of what is or is not wrong with the child, that comment from the teacher is totally uncalled for and extremely unprofessional. A teacher should know better, period, end of discussion. And I agree with tnmt, ask for a meeting with the principle and teacher.
Nope, Missoui, Philly and New York
NM
Funny, that's my exact same story here in New York! sm
I'll believe it when I see it, too. Also, with the feds, we were supposed to get $1,200 back - the feds said there was a mistake in the filing and now we OWE $1,100. That's some mistake, but we can't find it, nor can the software company that we used!
Totally freezing in upstate New York. sm
I live here because my daughter lives in Brooklyn and this way I get to see her about once a month. Moved from CA for it, but that might have been a bad idea. Every year I hate winter more. I HATE shoveling snow.
Bus trip
I should've stayed home today because I have diarrhea, and I don't see a bathroom on this bus.
How about another trip?
What does she like? Is she interested in history or politics? If so, your area is full of historical places that you could visit for a day, a weekend, or a week. What about visiting D.C.? How about a trip to Mount Rushmore? Or Niagara Falls - see it from both sides. Visit some of the old forts up there.

If you're north of NY, what about Lake George? Or, go the Jersey shore, the Maine shore - kayak in the ocean.

I'm sure you'll find some great way to celebrate. Let us know what you decide, please?
re: son's trip
HI Trose,

I just want to say that this opportunity just might be what God will use to show your son where He wants him in ministry or use it to call him to the mission field. I know it is hard to let him go especially after what happened, but remember this....God will not allow that boy to die before his time and God is in control of his life! If your son is a strong christian, like my 17 yr old son who also wants to be a missionary, then He has given his life to the Lord and he wants to serve Him. Do not get in the way of the Lord using your son....Trust Jesus...He will protect him and guide him and direct him in all his ways....He goes before Him and is his rear guard....you can't help but allow him to be used of the Lord. My son is going to Thailand on his spring break this year as he is also a senior and loves the Lord and wants to serve Him on the mission field somewhere. We love him and want him to do what the Lord is calling him to do. It is hard to let them go, but Jesus is in control!
God bless you and your son!

don't forget passoports there and airpot security -- Maybe a US territory no passport no hassle
BON YOAGE
I am planning several long weekends this summer for mini-vacations.

We are going to drive up to the Omaha Zoo for a weekend.  We live in rural Missouri north of Kansas City, so it's about a three or four hour drive.

Then, we have a family reunion in southern Missouri and I'm planning a 4-day weekend for that so we can spend some time in the Ozarks.

Then, we will go into Kansas City to Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun.

Then, I'm planning a four-day weekend in Branson.

So I guess we are going to explore our state too!

Plus we have a public pool in our town that the kids spend a lot of time at.  Then there is girl scout camp for my daughter.  My son will be getting a job this summer as he's 16 now and mom can't afford gas for my car and his car and to pay for his dates all of the time.

As you can see I try to keep my kids as busy as possible!  There is nothing worse than bored children when you're trying to work!

Oh Boy! Field Trip! nm

This trip has gone to the dogs! (nm)
.
I would never put you on guilt trip for that
That little beast is a nervy ho!!!! The worst part of having kids is dealing with other kids and their parents. How DARE she do that? Use your computer? But I will say, this will be an ongoing war for eternity now with the mother.
A trip to Ireland? (see msg)
Just talked to a dear friend on the phone over my break, who just got back from a tour guided trip to Ireland. She and her husband went to celebrate 30  years of a wonderful marriage. She tells me one woman went alone and had a great time. They stayed in a castle overnight and met the keeper of the castle, a wonderful Irish Wolfhound named Oscar. The thought of doing this is exciting and yet somewhat scary and depressing at the same time. I am single and so tired of being along and doing nothing I could scream!  I am tired of always being looked upon as the one who is ALONE.   . . Comments, PLEASE!
dream trip

Been trying to get my mom to go with me to Ireland....she lost her DH last year....I'll keep trying!

Vegas trip

Hey Hoku,

Well, give us all the dirt!!!  Did you or did you not have a great time with your friend best friend in Vegas?  Enquiring minds need to know!!!

Hey my hubby and I took a trip
to Williamsburg Virginia long time ago and went through Colonial Williamsburg, took a dinner cruise around the Navy ships in Norfolk, spent some time on Virginia Beach, went to a beautiful plantation! We have tons of pics but I have no idea where I put them all....geez I think that was like 20 years ago!
Just want to say my trip to Greece anything but fun
I would never go there again and would not tell anyone to do. The ugly American certainly was something I picked up on there, the people were obnoxious, really nasty to me- spent lots of $$$$ and sorry I ever visited.
