I bite my nails, so I get them done short..

Posted By: Kendra on 2009-04-06
In Reply to: How do you two type with nails?..... - Annie

they are really not too long, but look better than when I have chewed them all off. Terrible habit, I know, but a very difficult one to break. I quit smoking and didn't really think it was that hard, but I just cannot stop chewing my nails!

Nails need to be rather short to start with, this is good for smoothing edges.
Can't really use it to "cut" a dog's nails if they are long because it would take all day. It's basically just a little sandpaper-type stuff on a roller that spins/turns.
short arms, short-term memory loss...
I too suffer from Short Arm Syndrome. Add to that the short-term memory loss that middle-age brings and I have now discovered I need to lasso the &*%$ reading glasses around my neck or my day will be spent wandering in circles asking the dog where my glasses are.

I have two pairs, per advice of doctor. I do not wear glasses all the time, so he thought I was not ready for bifocals. My son gave me a wonderful eyeglass case for Christmas that is big enough to hold both pairs should I ever venture out of the house amongst the living.

I did manage to find some "sporty" looking around-the-neck-eye glass holder thingies - what DO you call those things? I'd use twine before getting those multicolored beaded ones. I have a neon coral one and an emerald green one. Too bad I can't find the former, I can't remember where I put it.
Anyone ever try the cat nails for the furkids?

Please, no posts about declawing. I would never do that!! I have brand new furniture and right now it is covered with sheets, blankets and the like, delivered yesterday, living room full of leather at that (along with new dining room, 10 new chairs that have cloth seats). I tried the scratching posts, I tried the bad smelling stuff they sell at the pet stores, I tried the water bottle (that is effective as long as in the same room), but I want to know who has tried the cat nails and if they work. I want to enjoy the beauty of my furniture and I love my kids! I would never damage those indoor babies but I want to look at my furniture also. Are the nails hard to put on. HELP!!

I'm so mad I could spit nails!!!

Okay, let me start off by saying, I'm writing this for the primary purpose of venting.  I'm not asking for advice or expecting support, but I would appreciate no bashing on this one.

I have 2 boys playing little league this year on the same team.  Last night they had a game against the 1 team I really wanted them to beat.  I absolutely cannot stand 1 of the kid's mothers on the other team.  She is at every sports function and likes to run everything.  She is very pushy and will do anything to have her kid come out on top (suck up to the head coaches, offer to run the boosters, make ridiculous posters to hang on her front porch for the kids on the bus to see).  You get the picture?

Ordinarily I keep my distance from her because just the sound of her know-it-all voice gets on my nerves.  Last night I stood in the same spot I always stand in.  My kids were the home team and I was near the first baseline (my kids play first and second base and pitch).  She ends up 3 feet from me.  The first couple of innings were fine.  Let me say that I do not boo the other team or make any remarks at all about their players.  I am there to cheer my sons' team on and my sons.

Now to the technicalities, the last 2 games we have been short an outfield ump.  The only ump we had was the one behind the catcher.  Usually when this happens, if there's someone in the bleachers who's willing to ump the outfield, they can make $10.  Last night, this guy volunteers, who happens to be this other woman's dad (hence, the grandfather of a kid on the opposing team).  As unhappy about this as I was, I said nothing.  I figured he deserved the benefit of the doubt.

He made several calls early on that seemed fair, so I pretty much dismissed the bias I thought he might have.  Then about halfway through the game, we have a runner on first and third and our kid up to bat.  He hits it and the runner on first goes to second while the runner on third goes home.  The ball made it to the infield and the shortstop tries to catch the runner going to second.  Our runner makes it second base just before the other kid does and the other kid ends up on top of him and he drops the ball.  Now, the outfield ump (gramps), calls our kid safe and we got a run in.  The catcher ump turns around and calls the kid out, saying it was a forced play and he didn't have to tag the kid and he thinks the other kid made it to the base first.  How he saw that from his distance is beyond me.  Secondly, when he called the kid out after the fact, he gave no explanation for it.  The coaches didn't even know.

Now this is when I got a litte irritated.  I yelled out that our kid was on the base first and the other ump called him safe.  I'll admit I was a little heated and was talking rather loudly to my mom.  I was not talking about any of the kids.  I was stating that the other ump's eyes (catcher's ump) must be pretty good to see that far away when the ump who was right there called him safe (gramps).  I probably did go on a little longer than I should have, but it not only cost us a run, it also gave us 3 outs to end the inning.

At this point, the woman sitting 3 feet away, says "Enough already!"  I turned and said "I don't think I was talking to you!"  I then turned back to my mom and the 1 coach and asked what the call was and why.  This woman then addresses me by name and begins telling me the rules of baseball.  Now mind you, this woman has never played baseball in her life (we went to the same school) and the only kid she has in baseball a son younger than my oldest.  Furthermore, later on in the game, she had no clue what the infield fly rule is (and even I knew that one), my point being she doesn't know the game that well.  So after she starts telling me this, I looked at her and said "I've heard enough of out you!"

Needless to say, 2 bad calls later, we lost the game.  I'm still fuming.  I realize this is only a game and it's not our first loss.  But this woman's know-it-all attitude really has me PO'ed.  She's been picked up for shoplifting and I really wanted to explain to her what shoplifting is and why you shouldn't do it, but I didn't.  I know I'm going to have to see her at every sporting event because she pushes her kid to play sports year-round.  She had 3 kids before she even got married and milked the system for all she could.  Now she's a daycare provider and I actually took my kids to her once years ago, before I really knew her, and my kids hated going there because all she did was watch TV.  The kids had to be quiet and they had to watch her shows.  They weren't allowed to go outside to play until her soaps were over.

Okay, I feel better.  I just really needed to vent this one.  I think the next time we play them, I will stand on the opposite side of the field from her and maybe wear earplugs, so I can't hear her either.

do you type with those nails??
your pup is freaking adorable i love all dogs :)

are you an MT? My nails are long but not that long! :)
I tip for haircuts and nails, etc. NM

Yes, I tip for haircuts and nails too.
You should tip for haircuts and nails unless the service it done by the owner of the salon. The owner is already making the profit from the service.
How do you two type with nails?.....
I am always filing mine short so they don't get in the way.
I am so livid I could spit nails! - sm

My daughter's both take dance at a local dance studio.  Nothing fancy, nice people, etc, and have been going there now for over 3 years.  Last night my 8-year-old left her coat there (denim jacket with embroidered butterflies --from Kohl's I think) and a pink scarf.  I thought nothing of it, she'd let coats there before without problem, and I knew I'd be back there tonight for my other daughter's dance class, also I was too tired to go back (16 miles round trip) to get it....she told me she left it there when we pulled into the driveway.  So get there tonight and no jacket or scarf. Someone there actually stole it (so it appears).  I am so po'ed it is not funny.  I made a sign asking for its return, saying "lost", etc, and if anyone had accidentally taken them home with them (though they were both pretty distinctive).  I just cannot believe someone there stole them.  I see these people 9 months out of the year.  This is a very small community with hardly any crime and someone steals a coat and scarf.  I called the owner and left a message for her, hoping against hope that she took them home for some reason (they have a lost and found box), but still waiting on her call.  If no one coughs it up I am certainly going to make a lot of noise there next Tuesday night and talk to every parent and let them know that someone stole my kid's coat.

Hey! my nails are suddenly improving
I have always had weak fingernails. I recently read I can blame the Raynaud's I have. But my nails are suddenly getting harder and growing, so I wanted to share the possible causes.

1) I just started using Burt's Bees lotions. I have the shea buter hand repair creme, and also the Babby Bee buttermilk lotion. These are great products. I especialy like the Baby Bees because the fragrance is really nice. I'm going to try a lot more of their products.

2) I just started taking vitamin D. I bought the kind with calcium and without. Calcium is good, but can be constipating, so I am taking one one day and the other the next. I decided to take it because it is supposed to be helpful for depression, and since I'm working at home now and not with people, I don't want to get depressed. But I was surprised to find the healthfood store didn't have a lot of products with D in it, so I think people have missed the news about how important vitamin D was discovered to be a couple of years ago. Don't want to get MS? Take vitamin D now. Want to keep your teeth? Take vitamin D. Want to do all you can to avoid cancer? Take vitamin D. Don't want your mother-in-law to break a hip and come live with you? Buy her vitamin D! Here is one article:

http://www.sciencenews.org/articles/20041009/bob8.asp

So either the lotion or the vitamin D is finally giving me decent fingernails. Worth a try if yours are weak.

No, but I do trim her nails once a month.
.
Which vitamin for hair and nails?
Is it vitamin D? My hair will only get to a certain length and seems like it stops growing. Any ideas on something to help it grow more?
I wonder how much out of that $2300 a month she uses to get her nails done?
xx
i take hair, skin & nails w/biotin.

Ow about your bite. (sm)
It was confusing to me that when I shrieked with pain, the next thing I heard was DH asking what was wrong and then cursing like a sailor. I thought he was mad at me for shrieking, not knowing he had hurt himself!

I was relieved to know he was just hurt, LOL.
DOG BITE
I find this whole complete thread disturbing. This woman was coming here to vent her frustration and was basically attacked. How sad!!!

I am sorry for your child. It is a terrible incident that I hope you win in court.

Dog owners have a responsibility to take proper care of their dog along with keeping it on a leash. When you take on a pet you take on ALL INCIDENTS that this pet causes. If this dog had torn up property, not a child, and they just offered a couple of dollars for repairs, I would hope that something would be done to get the full amount. yes this is a child which to me seems a little bit more important than property. I would think they should be responsible for the whole $800.

I want to know why who ever it was stated that she should get a fence in her yard? It is not her responsiblity to keep this dog out. It is the owners responsibility to keep their dog on a leash and under their control at all times.

My suggestion would be EVERY single time this dog is loose you call the police or animal control until something is done. In Indiana there is a three strikes and your dog is out law basically. Call animal control and tell them about this neighborhood dog and your daughter. I would really suprise me if it is not picked up.

Good Luck.

Also, in the US, you can sue anyone for anything at anytime. That is the law. It is not like this woman and child are suing over nothing. A dog bite is a serious incident. This dog could potentially kill a small child.

A friend of mine's mom has small dogs (under 10 pounds). One recently bit her child in a serious bite. The dog actually went for her 4 year olds neck!! Her mom was right there when it happened. The child did nothing wrong but bend down to pet the dog. Small dogs can do damage too.

Go today. Right now. Go to ER and tell them about bite.
zz
yep for up to an hour they can still bite you- sm
there was a story on TV a few months back about some guy in the middle of no where, staying at a remote cabin for a week (was getting picked up at pre-arranged date a week after his drop off there), on day 3 or 4 killed a snake by the house by cutting off its head, and then for some foolish reason decided to pick up the head which is when he got bit. By some miracle he did not die, came darn close though, if his ride hadn't come he would have died though.
All Dogs Can Bite
All dogs can bite. Breed has nothing to do with it.

Your "nice" breed of choice chewed it's owners face off while she was unconcious.

Miss Dinoire, 39, left hideously disfigured after her pet labrador savaged her while she was unconscious after an overdose, said: "I can feel just about everything as I did before. It may be someone else's face, but when I look in the mirror, I see me.

I'll bite
But first I will have to point out the differences between this and a gay person going about their every day life. No gay person is standing on the corner collecting anything, recruiting, or taking one nation under God from anything. They (we) are simply asking to walk our own paths unassaulted. Period. Don't put your hands on us in anger or hate, keep your discriminatory legislation out of our lives, don't key our cars, don't burn our houses, don't threaten our children or have your children threaten our children. If you don't like who we are, don't associate with us. It's that simple. Leave us alone.

With that in mind, no, you would not be shoving anything down anyone's throat unless you're pushing your belief on people who don't want to hear it and who tell you they don't want to hear it. This is fundamentally different than being gay, obviously. Any person who wants to hear a sermon can do so. Any person who wishes do donate money can do so. That is not a lifestyle. That is religion. Gay is not a lifestyle either. Where to people get that crap? The clothing you like, what you prefer for breakfast, the car you prefer to drive or can afford to drive, the type of dwelling you prefer - that is "lifestyle." WHO you are is not a lifestyle.
dogs can bite
ANY dog can bite, and there are attacks that happen that AREN'T pitbulls, so do those breeds need to be put down as well in your mind???
Spider bite question sm
I've looked on the internet and found the brown recluse spider bite pictures and 2 or 3 match what I have on my legs. Have an appointment tomorrow for the doctor to look at it. My question is: Has anyone had a brown recluse bite? Does it hurt? Does it itch? Did you hot pack it until you were seen?  I know-dumb questions but let me tell you, THE ITCH IS DRIVING ME NUTS!  I swear, it itches to the point where I want to lance it myself-without pain meds.  I'm trying Benadryl cream, Bacitracin, Neosporin cream, hot baths and now a heating pad. They only helps minimally. The one larger lesion has a real dark, dead looking area in the center with red and white around it-it sort of hurts along with the itch-and the other two areas are only red. What to do in the meantime until my appointment?
Possible spider bite update sm
And the diagnosis is (drum roll)----staph folliculitis. I had no idea at all it was so prevalent in this area and due to the fact that I have been on immunosuppressive therapy for years, the bacitracin just wasn't working.  Came home with a bottle of Bactrim DS and triamcinolone cream for the itch. Good to know it wasn't a bite.
duhh, dogs bite! lol

My properly trained dog does not bite. Maybe yours does.

Doesn't give the dog a right to bite her??? It's a freakin animal.
It doesn't know right from wrong. Geez lady! Doesn't give it a right...lol whatever.
The duhh part was not necessary. My dog doesn't bite. Properly trained

People who have dogs that are not trained shouldn't bring their pets to malls and department stores.  The purse dog that barked was misbehaving and needed to be removed and gotten under control or trained better before being allowed to come back into the environment. This does not change the fact that times have changed and pets are being allowed in area that you otherwise wouldn't expect.  For many of us who have purse dogs or other types of dogs, we train them right before just taking them to the mall. I've never, ever had a problem taking my dog to the mall, Dillards, Penneys, Sears, the video store, and a whole host of other places. It's commonplace where I live and most people do it so it's really considered normal.

Bite the bullet and go to good salon for recolor. Leave it in
xx
Definitely short ones
I love in Fridays when my doc does all his patients that were tested for allergies that week.
Short. Not in the least bit Jewish.
x
hopefully this will be short-lived
I'd still send pictures, etc., especially to your grandparents. Good luck!
My hair is very short right now.
Short layers and all I have to do is spray a little hairspray on it and run my fingers through it and I'm good to go.  It has gotten much thicker over the years and hair color has helped with that too.  I hate that I have to color my hair, though.  I started going gray almost 20 years ago and I just turned 40.    At some point, I will bite the bullet and let the color grow out, but haven't gotten there yet.  Not ready to be totally gray.
My hair is short
When it starts to get even a little long, I have to go out and get it cut. I don't like the way my hair or the way I look when it gets too long. I just put some gel in it and go. The only thing I don't like is that it can get dry in the sun. I've been dying my hair for about five years or so (46 now). I won't let it go gray, but that's just me. My daughter is only 4 so I feel I would look like her grandmother if I let it go gray.
My 8 y/o is a size 5, but she's SHORT...
for her age! I really hope she grows into her feet soon, looks like she has clown feet :) She's only 4 ft 3 in., but has some of the biggest feet for her age.
I have only seen short segments
as I am flipping through channels and man, is that show filthy!  Is the story line that good?
Long and short of it -
While I can appreciate his desire to stop spending so much time in his car, I think the solution he is suggesting would only be very good in the short term at the most. The reality is you all probably need to sell your house and move closer to his job.
I always wanted to be short in HS, like
most of our little cheerleaders were. Now I see my height as an advantage, and i have to admit that even my freakishly long arms do come in handy. Funny how priorities change ...
My dad short-tempered and
was always yelling and pounding tables and children about the dumbest things, and mom was cold, bored and depressed, so it's hard to say.

It's so hard to shop for Mother's & Father's Day cards!
for short people
why is it the one item i need is on the very top shelf so far back i cannot reach it?

Life is too short
Unfortunately, life is actually way too long to be very, very poor, old and alone, and if you can't get along with anyone when you are young, you are not going to be that hot of a catch at the nursing home.
my short list
Milk
Liver
Okra
Tofu
Indian food
Thai food
Sushi

my short list sm
Lima beans
soft-cooked eggs (where the yolks are too runny and the whites aren't quite firm - and forget any with the shell accidentally left in)
fishy-tasting fish
Chicken/turkey liver (beef and deer is okay)
raw onions
big gobs of mayonnaise (a little in salad is okay)
tuna without celery.

I did it about 3 years ago for a short while.

I quit because it was too much of a hassle.  I had to buy the magazines, brochures, samples every 2 weeks plus get orders in every 2 weeks, plus I had to deliver with baby in tow, but you could have them pick their orders up at your house but with so many reps in this area, I had to be competitive.    My friend I buy Avon from was having problems the company not sending the right orders, getting things mixed up etc etc.  It is just a mess for her so she dropped it.

The pro side of it was that when I sold Avon I got pretty good bargains being a rep.  They send a What's New brochure every 2 weeks.  There are people here that order merchandise and open their own store and sell it that way.  I don't know if they are making profit or not.   I do think the real money is in recruiting people to sell like other MLMs.  It really doesn't make sense to me to do things that way though.  It would be like having a shoe store selling Nike's on every corner.  Just doesn't make sense.

If you are going to be in the house such a short time sm
You will build up almost NO equity with a 40-year mortgage, and may have to sell it at a loss. Something to consider....
okay - found it - short story
this year it is too late.  They are in the house for the winter and laying next year's crop in your attic - supposed to spray outside the house eaves and foundation included in the fall to prevent any new ones.
