I do that too

If I hold a door for someone, like at the mall, and they don't even acknowledge me, I usually say You're welcome.

I remember one time at the mall, some guy held a door for us when my DS was probably only 5 and when DS passed the guy he said, Thank you, to him.  The guy about threw his back out to look back at my son when he heard what he said.  That's just the way my kids were raised.
