When my DS graduated in 2005, we ordered the thank you cards with the invites.  The day after his party, I had him sit down and hand write all the cards himself to the people who came to the party and gave gifts.  It is sad that more parents don't do this, as I think it is very important for our children to learn how to be thankful and grateful to others for taking their time and money to buy a gift and to attend functions in their honor.  We live in such a ME-driven world and to heck with anyone else, truly sad...
On the other hand, for the past 2 Christmases and birthdays, we have given our DS's girlfriend gifts, with not so much as a thank you, I hate it, I love it, nothing....and my husband has changed the oil, brakes, and other stuff in her car, again without so much as a thank you...go figure.  Suffice it to say, he will not be doing that again for her.
