I have also heard he has autism

It has been stated there were very little verbal skills if at all.  Still a tragedy no matter what problems he had.  He was loved by his parents tremendously.  As far as the "lover" rumors, they have been going on for years.  Not saying they are true or not, I have no idea.  BTW, does it really matter?

Anyone here really know about autism?
I met John, Kelly, Jett and Ella when Jett was only about 8 or 9, and actually heard Jett converse.

He spoke clearly, and quite appropriate to the topic at hand. I saw nothing unusual about him, to be perfectly honest.

Could autism develop AFTER that age? I admit I know nothing about it, other than there are varying degrees.

But at the age I saw him, he appeared to be a normal, even a bit precocious, 8 to 9 year old boy.

For the record, the Travoltas are wonderful, gracious people, who treat everyone from maids to CEOs with dignity and respect. No attitude whatsoever. They're definitely NOT typical Hollywood people.

Thanks for any info anyone has.
Worried about autism.

Hey everyone, I was just hoping someone with experience in autism can either confirm or shoot down some fears for me.  My mother says that she is 90% sure my son has autism, and although we have had concerns before she mentioned anything, the doc said a couple of months ago to wait until he is 2.  He is 22 months now and his next appointment is next month. This has really been worrying my spouse and I recently and I was just hoping for some input.

My son shows some definite red flags, but at the same time seems perfectly normal.  For instance:

RED FLAGS:  (1) His speech is pretty delayed.  He will say "uh oh" and "daddy" and a few other words, but nothing else really and it is near impossible to get him to say any of the words he knows with prompting.  He babbles jibberish constantly, however.  (2)  Sometimes it seems like he is ignoring us, but this is usually when he is occupied with something else.  Sometimes he will look at us to his name, sometimes not.  It does appear that he is deaf at times.  (3)  He never points at anything that he wants or is interested in.  He will either get it himself or drag us by the finger to whatever he wants.  (4)  He lines objects up.  They are never in any particular order or color and he doesn't get upset when we mix them up or take away one of the objects, however, they are usually the same type of object, ie. cars, dvd cases, blocks. (5) He won't give kisses or hugs when asked, however, does without being asked every once in awhile, hugs much more than kisses.  (6)  Compared to other children, he seems very behind in listening and really interacting with others.

NORMAL BEHAVIOR:  (1)  He loves other people and children and will often act silly if someone comes over to our house, showing off.  He will bring out toys that he hasn't played with for awhile.   (2)  He isn't afraid to look us or others in the eyes and always has a ready smile.  (3)  He loves to cuddle and has no problem with it unless he wants to play.  (4)  If one of us pretends to cry or if he accidently smacks a friend who is his age and they cry, he will look concerned and give them or us a hug (and a kiss if we are lucky.)  (5)  He plays with his toys for the most part how they should be played with and gives his favorite stuffed bear rides in his trucks.  (6)  He has no problems with schedule changes and loves to go places different.  (7) He has no repetitive movements with his hands or body, at least none we have noticed.

After actually listing these things, I feel a little more at ease, however the red flags are pretty strong and are very apparent on a day to day basis, especially his speech.  I'm thinking he is somewhere on that spectrum at least.  Thanks for listening as this has been the cause of some tears lately.

Autism Walk

Hello everybody,

I'm going to be walking for Walk Now For Autism on Sep. 20th of this year. It is a ways away but since this is such an important subject for me i'm trying to get started as early as i can. If you'd like to check it out, register yourself in a city near you, or donate, you can check out my website on their website:

I appreciate your time,

Tanya

Autism website

Hello everyone.

I am a mother to a 7-year-old little boy who has autism. I've had so many conversations about autism and being a mother with a son who has autism that i've decided to start a blog. There are so many mothers out there who feel alone (i'm one of them at times) that it'd be nice to read other peoples thoughts and feelings on the topic without it being sugar-coated. Here's the website if you know somebody with autism or just want to read what it's like at times.

Autism Speaks

Hello,

I'm doing a walk for Autism Speaks on Sep. 20th in Mn. If you'd like to check out my page it's: http://www.walknowforautism.org/minneapolis/team/teamderrian

Any donations are greatly appreciated in this battle for a cure or even info as to why this is happening! Let your family, friends, or anybody you can think of know of this great cause and you can help just by getting the word "autism" out there and educating people person by person.

Thanks!

has he been tested for ADHD/ADD/autism?
x
Being as autism discovered in 1943
sorta puts this theory to rest, doesn’t it? Years ago people with retardation, problems with autism not talked about, hidden by the families. In 1943 infants were not overpowered by vaccinations so nah, don’t hold vaccinations responsible.
early detection in autism is tantamount!! AHDH too

get him to a professional......before continual spanking of him which is far more destructive than ALL_OF_YOU getting some professional help....will pray for you!

Remember this.....if you always do what you've always done, you will always get what you've always gotten.......

evidently whatever you're doing IS_NOT_WORKING.....

No autism experience but - he sounds pretty normal (sm)
My children talked pretty early but some of their friends who seemed delayed to me at the time are fine now (10 & 7 years old). My son has never been affectionate when asked and is not a big hugger, never has been, but he is in gifted classes and has lots of friends and when he does decide to give me a hug, he means it and it's special. It is so easy to get an idea in your head and then without meaning to, find things that seem to fit your worst fears. With your mother saying she is "90% sure" that has to make you worry even more. But the fact that he acts silly at times and is concerned whenhe hurts his friends are good signs. And many babies have "selective hearing". Please try not to worry too much - and also - this probably sounds ridiculous - but be sure he does not have wax impacted ears - I say this because this was the case with me in first grade - my teachers thought I was mentally impaired - until everyone realized I couldn't hear - and it was just from wax! Once that was taken care of - I became an A student. It could be just some little thing that needs to be looked at. One friend whose child seemed very delayed had the child checked and she actually had fluid in her ears and needed tubes. The child was almost 2 before she walked! and it was because her balance was off from fluid. Anyway, I'm just saying that if there is anything wrong it could be something minor so try not to panic :-)
I've heard of tops and also heard it is a good group.

Just heard
Very sad indeed.
Never heard of it until now....sm
it sounds like something you'd find in the south. I'm not sure if I like the sounds of it or not!
wow, never heard of it, but thanks!
x
I heard, so sad. I liked him.

yep, once heard it said that if you
expect nothing, you are never dissappointed, so I have learned to expect nothing, and in return, I am always surprised, which makes even the smallest of niceities someone does or says much more appreciated by me. We are to be happy givers, actually expected to give until it hurts, and not to expect anything in return, amen.
You have heard exactly what I have
over the years. I have heard so much of this I probably would swat my children out of their seats at the table if I ever heard these gross sounds. I also hate to hear yawning while dictating. Reminds me of the time I used to work outside my regular job and had a physician who was a terrible dictator in the hospital and at his office (this was a group of physicians, otherwise would not just have worked for him) and one day he dictated a letter to his bank about his account and you got it, every word was letter perfect, perfectly understandable. I think most dictators find the job of doing their reports not high on the totem pole. That is why we as transcriptionists have to put up with all this crap noise they send our way. Sneezes, snorts, eating, drawing on a cigarette (yes, years ago that 1 for me), coughing, smacking, chewing, and yes, that occasional bowel movement thing-- my mother would have killed me if I ever did this!! I learned well at her knee, still am very cognizant of others in a family/social setting.
You said if you really WANT to, well heard the
same subject on weight loss from my aunt. A lot of elderly people's appetites wane and now she talks about a person, all you have to do is push away from the table. Hmmm, sounds a lot like what you are saying. If you really want to. Ok, I am trying now- I want to be beautiful, thinner, rich, and so on and so on. Hey, I really want this so I guess it can come true, right? Like I said, lot of people just do not understand. Maybe she has a good friend somewhere that will understand.
From what I have heard,
they have great personalities. I believe that smaller dogs do need to go out more frequently for a longer period, but if you work at home, maybe this won't be such an issue.

That being said, any puppy takes a lot of time and attention, and if that is going to stress you out, say you have kids and a busy life, the puppy stage can be rough. Thank goodness puppies are soooo cute, LOL. My neighbors are working with a puppy, and unfortunately they got it at 6 weeks. They were really bleary-eyed there for a while, and thought we were really smart to get an adult dog.

Make sure you go to a good breeder. This is a good place to start:

http://www.bichon.org/breeders.htm

They are not more expensive than a "backyard" breeder who is out to make a buck. The less responsible breeders tend to give themselves away by using terms to make their line sound special, but usually mean they are outside the breed standard, or breeding for looks over health. Depending on breed, they may use words like "teacup" "giant," or even "hypoallergenic." Bichons may cause allergies for fewer people, but that doesn't help if you or a family member just happen to be allergic. So what out for such buzzwords designed to sell. A good breeder is going to have questions for you about how ready you are to take on a puppy of their breed, and they will also tell you that if at any time, for any reason, you need to get rid of the dog, call them - not a rescue, not a shelter. They will always take their dog back because they really care about the dog.

If you get one, we want to hear all the puppy (or dog) stories. :oD

Never heard of this...
but will go to Lowe's tomorrow and check it out. That might be something that works in conjunction with the other ideas.
you *heard*???? LOL.........

You *heard that AL Gore's documentary had no facts in it*?   And I quote you on that.

Believe half of what you see and nothing of what you *hear* - go do your own research for crying out loud!!!

At least Gore CARES!!

Has anyone heard (sm)
how the poison got into the wheat?  Last I heard it was a poison that is not used in this country.
Just heard from my son
they are finally on the bus and on their way home. We live about 1 1/2 hours from Tech. There is where my son plans on going to college. He actucally told me he loved me on the phone.
I heard that
on the local news - it is utterly unbelievable!
Um, TOM? Never heard of it.
No hits on my abbreviation site, either.
No, have not heard.
Don't remember the 1997 thing either. Well if it worked back then, I would give it a go, but I feel it is a lost battle. I hate the prices where they are. $2.77 for me at the Gas N Go in NJ. $35.00 just the other day to fill her up.
I heard that!

Also have 2 boys and 1 girl - she is the middle child and has been a challenge since she was a baby.  Tonight is the PROM!  OMG will I be glad when tonight is over!  With my son, it was rent a tux, order the corsage take some pictures, have a good time, be careful with my new car.

With my daughter, it is shop for dresses, shop some more, pick one out, have the store hold it, forgot a 50% deposit, go pay in full, wait a month for them to press it, shoes, slip, find a belly button ring that doesn't show quite so much through the fabric of said dress, purse or no purse, order flower for boyfriend AND also corsage for daughter because boyfriend doesn't feel like ordering corsage and his mother won't do it for him, nails, hair, makeup, be careful with my car (boyfriend is 17 and does not have his license).

Did I mention I will be glad when tonight is over.  Truly love her to death, but yikes!  Talk about high maintenance.

I have heard it's not at all
uncommon for an older child to go back into diapers and back on the bottle when another baby comes along for the same reason - a plea for attention. My husband is only a little older than his sister, and that's what he did.

So your son simply needs more of your time and attention. I hear 4 and 5 are the most fun ages anyway. :oD

I heard that too...sm
Boy, I hope not...that'd be too weird.  I won't watch it either if that happens...
I have never heard of her. I just
read on a spoiler thing something about her and was wondering who she was?!
Never heard of that . .
just the Plott, which was just recognized by the club. It is a short-haired beautiful hound. You may be right, as there are unusual breeds, not yet recognized by the clubs. If you ever watch Crufts Dog Show in England you will see some dogs we do not yet recognize in our clubs.
Thanks for this, I have never tried it but heard about it
and now of course never will try it.  I never thought of the fumes, probably would have if I had tried it.
Never heard of it. Do
you get them in stores or have to order them?
Tell me more, have not heard about
NM
Well, actually have heard of this before
so maybe just not able to obtain vitals and so therefore declared?
I never heard of
Curvelle.  Is it an appetite suppressant?
Anyone heard of this
before. My best friend (a male age 50) began to experience severe headaches two days ago.  He has been under a lot of stress.  Then about a day and a half ago he came down with flu-like symptoms with violent vomiting.  His headache became so bad that he took himself to our local hospital.  They ran tests and diagnosed him to have an aneurysm.  He was rushed to a big hospital in Chicago via helicopter earlier this evening.  After running tests there it was determined that it is not an aneurysm but just a "bleed".  The doctor said that it is normal for males between the ages of 46 and 60 to have this occur.  Have you ever heard of this?  I am worried sick about him.
I was a fan before anyone had heard of him
did a short-lived Fox series - can't even remember the name of it now - but this may have been accidental.  He apparently was having difficulty sleeping and told friends that 2 Ambien was not working for more than 1 hour.
I heard that, too.
You are supposed to keep them in the carton inside the refrigerator instead of in the door b/c the door is not cold enough to be a safe temp.
I have heard it all

As dictated:

The patient states her is unable to keep anything down.

Thanks - Never heard that - (sm)
Nice lead singer - (woohoo again)
I had heard somewhere
that women only have 2 or 3 hairstyles they look good in anyway.  I know - that's about all I've had my whole life (I'm 49).  I keep mine above the shoulders becuase I have a long face, and it pulls it down otherwise.
I have heard this too
I sure wish I was middle class.
You may have heard
As you may have heard, the Bush Administration said each of us would get a rebate check to stimulate the economy.

If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China . If we spend it on gasoline it will go to the Arabs, if we purchase a computer it will go to India, if we purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala, if we purchase a good car it will go to Japan, if we purchase useless junk it will go to Taiwan and none of it will help the American economy.

We need to keep that money here in America . The only way to keep that money here at home is to spend it at yard sales, since those are the only businesses still in the US

Has anyone heard of this
I work for an ENT doc and he was seeing a patient that had "multiple synechia" in each side of the nose due to putting green onions in his nose. I was just wondering why the patient was doing this?
Thank you. Never heard of that! NM
xx
I have heard enough, too!
I always felt they planned this stunt. They wanted to do something to get their 15 minutes of fame. I feel sorry for the baby.
Oh, you heard that one too!...nm
//
I heard this too
They say it sounds weird but it works.
Here is what I have always heard. sm
If you drink and it changes your personality, you have a problem. Otherwise, if you can drink and your personality stays the same, you don't have a problem. I personally drink 2-3 liquor drinks an evening. In this business, we need something to calm us. Tell your roomie to mind her own business. I think if you were drinking that stuff with your coffee in the very early morning, I might say you have a problem but otherwise drink on!
I heard the same ads
And they were sponsored by our electric company. I figured they wanted us to think they were concerned for us, but didn't want us to save TOO much on our electric bill. So they stuck with suggesting the switch to the fluorescent bulbs and unplugging appliances.

We're better off shutting off lights (and reminding our kids!) and shutting off our computers at night.

Never heard that...but maybe. nm
