of course i do, but inside her post,
she said "ick"; put that in combination with the sarcastic sounding comment, again, i think it was and intended to be, rude.

lots of information at that link - I just googled Kwanzaa and up that came among lots of other sites, full of information.

As for me, if we are *white* in discussion, I use *black* and seems to me my black friends prefer that.  I did read once that Whoopi Goldberg does not like the term African American and she stated at that time that none of her relatives came from Africa.  However, I have since read that's not entirely true (some of her relatives did come from Africa)......

why only Christian? (inside your post)...

This is why we have to get religion out of it........why only Christians should be president of the USA, the melting pot of the world....?  Makes absolutely no sense to me....

Plus, I thought we separated church and state when I was like 5 years old (going back many decades)....

Perhaps someday somebody who practices Hindism or Buddhism might want to be president....

I am putting my post inside so no one has to read
I think it is just a matter of personal opinion, no winning or losing to it. Just as mt101 called me paranoid, I dont take it personal. I am my own peson and my happiness/well being is not wrapped up in what another thinks. I dont know that person and she can think what she wants. I would never try to tell her she could not have that thought. The whole "sticks and stones" thing. I just think it is sad someone can let anothers opinion make them feel so miserable.
Next time please post your answer inside
before getting your answer inside our heads.  Thanks!
Hilarious post inside. I needed it this morning! sm

"The Obedient Wife"

There was a man who had worked all his life, had saved all of his money,
and was a real "miser" when it came to his money.

Just before he died, he ! said to his wife..."When I die, I want you to
take all my money and put it in the casket with me. I want to take my
money to the afterlife with me."

And so he got his wife to promise him, with all of her heart, that when
he died, she would put all of the money into the casket with him.

Well, he died. He was stretched out in the casket, his wife was sitting
there - dressed in black, and her friend was sitting next to her. When
they finished the ceremony, and just before the undertakers got ready to
close the casket, the wife said,

"Wait just a moment!"
She had a small metal box with her; she came over with the box and put
it in the casket. Then the undertakers locked the casket down and they
rolled it away. So her friend said,

"Girl, I know you were not foolish enough to put all that money in there
with your husband."

The loyal wife replied, "Listen, I'm a Christian; I cannot go back on my
word. I promised him that I was going to put that money into the casket
with him."

You mean to tell me you put that money in the casket with him!?!?!?"

"I sure did," said the wife. "I got it all together, put it into my
account, and wrote him a check.... If he can cash it, then he can spend
it."

Send this to every clever female you know, and to every man who thinks
they are smarter than women!!!

Why is it the office staff's responsibility

to get you from your home to their office.  Obviously, you have a computer -- why not Google it?

As for the appt mix-up, it happened all the time when I worked in an office 10 years ago.  It was a mistake -- not some conspiracy.  A lot of staff is overworked due to rising job cuts.  When I have an appt further than 5 minutes from my house, I always call the day before to confirm.

Sometimes we have to take responsbility for ourselves.  As for the comments related to the age of these staff members, what about the old farts who are still working because they didn't plan well enough to retire?  Yesterday, one gave me a cheeseburger instead of the hamburger that I ordered -- what's the reason for that?  My guess was just a simple error; maybe I should rethink that.

time things correctly. I get this treatment all the time lately, and you are right, it is bad enough to have that hour-long wait many times for a SCHEDULED appointment, but when you already tired and stressed out, they stick in that little room, many times with a deplorable johnny on, sitting on that perch of an examining table......just for another 15 or even 20 minutes. Any caring doctors out there anymore with professional starring?

vent - Personal appearance of health care staff
My mother was recently in our local hospital for a short stay and when I was visiting, I was shocked at the unkempt appearance of some of the nurses. For example, one nurse had long, messy, straggly hair that IMO would have looked much nicer washed AND pulled back out of the way. I mean I was just shocked that they were allowed to be so unkempt looking in a hospital setting! Just venting. . . . maybe I'm just getting old, I dunno. It seems to me standards have really fallen.

od'd on cookies
My uncle makes Kiflis, Hungarian powdered sugar nut cookies, and I ate about 2 dozen within the past week...I only get them once a year, though. Told MD we can't check the cholesterol until Feb. now!!!

About Your Candy
Just wondering if you have a website regarding your candy business. ?
Arm Candy
You just have to enforce with him there are consequences to every action. Have a real heart to heart with him. Use Levi and Palin's daughter as a perfect example of young love. Remind him all the weight-watching, college, etc. will be down the drain if he makes a mistake. Then remind him of AIDS and all the other STD's that last a lifetime and encourage him to use protection. When the hormones are raging and the girls are falling all over them they need to be reminded. Just do it in a way that he knows you are not saying he is stupid but that you don't want to see him a mistake that could change/mess up his life for a long time.
Now he wants to do N-shaped cookies nm

Sugar Cookies

Is anyone out there a good baker?  Looking for a good recipe for the B I G sugar cookies, not those small ones you can buy, slice and bake at the store.   I think some also call them sour cream cookies . . . not sure.  They are about 3 inches round and maybe 1/2 inch high.  You can top them with icing or sprinkles or colored sugars.  Thanks in advance.

Thank you! I will try this very soon. Sounds Yummy!!!!

Candy making
I use chocolate bark to dip with.  I do know you have to watch the humidity outside.  If the humidity is high, the chocolate will not set, but you can put it in the refrigerator to get it to set.  Have fun!!
candy making
Aww, my favorite time of year. You can freeze your candy and it will still be good until Christmas. I make chocolate and peanut butter fudge and freeze it. As a matter of fact, it is really good frozen, takes longer to eat, just melts in your mouth. I have to disguise the candy in the freezer, otherwise people will pick at it and it will be gone by Christmas. YUM!
Candy and website

I am working on getting it back up and running...tell me what your interested in and I will send you some pics.

Oh, he is mostly arm candy and he is a looker!
Actually when it comes to money I have more than him so maybe I might find someone even younger than him but I doubt that. I never doubt his love for 1 minute.

wrapping cookies cheap.
Are they being mailed?? If so, wrap them in plastic wrap and then foil and put them in Pringle's Potato Chip tins. This works great for care packages going to Iraq.
P.S. Couldn't really say John Candy or that would have
completely given it away.

Had to make ya work for it right?! :)
Doesn't that just frost your cookies?
Frosted mine, anyway.

Every feasible thing except a volcano raining lava down on my house has happened this month to suck every spare penny out of me, and I'm not counting CHRISTMAS (THERE! I said the evil word!) expenses. I just get in from snow shoveling for the gazillionth time and finally got a chance to open the mail. After the electric bill darn near killed me, I open a bill from the prodigal son's university. Son goes to state univ., but not in our state. Here's the cost for 2007/2008:

Out-of-State Tuition: $21,770/year
Mandatory Fees: $2,260/year
Room and Board: $6,204/year
TOTAL: $30,234/year

Books, meal plans, health insurance, etc. not included. He gets lots of financial aid, though.

The bill for spring semester was due a couple of weeks ago and has been paid. I just received another bill, as I do every semester right after tuition is paid, for the following:

Course Fee #1: $15.00
Course Fee #2: $10.00
Photocopying Fee: $15.00

Course fee? Wouldn't you think that $21,700 for tuition ought to cover that? Photocopying fee?? I can buy a whole package of paper at Staples for $7.00. How much paper/ink/electricity does it take to make a photocopy? $15 worth? Over 14,000 students are enrolled there. That's $210,000 charged for photocopying fees/semester, $420,000/year.

How does one get into the photocopying business?

I got 5 pounds of chocolate candy

Hubby remembered one night...just 1 night...and can't remember when, that I was so hungry for a piece of chocolate, he gave me 5 pounds of chocolate for Christmas!!!  I love chocolate but not that much!!!! I think he wants me to get fat.

I ate 2 pieces so far since Christmas. Hmmmmmmmmmm, think I'll go grab a piece now. It seems to be calling me.

Girl Scout cookies are here!

I love Girl Scout cookies!

They are $4 a box this year.  I always tell the little girls they were 50 cents a box when I sold them and they look at me like, okay, old lady, just buy the cookies.

Girl Scout Cookies
My daughter is a Girl Scout so we bought quite a few boxes. I love the thin mint and could probably eat a whole box myself in one day. They're $3.50 here, but every year I swear the cookies get smaller and smaller.

Do you keep a candy dish on your desk?

What's inside it?

I have one on my desk, but it usually only has sugar-free gum in it.  Boring I know, but I hate it when my kids get cavities and since they raid my dish all the time, I have to take precautions.    I also don't want to tempt myself all day long with sugar.  Sometimes I get sugar-free Werther's candy or  sugar-free lemonade candy but those bags are so tiny they don't last long.

Halloween candy warning

 HALLOWEEN CANDY RECALLED

There is a new warning put out by the Canadian Food Inspection
 Agency....

Sherwood brand Pirate's Gold Milk Chocolate coins are being
recalled due to the fact that they contain Mel amine, the ingredient in milk
product that has caused many infant deaths in china. These candies are
sold at Costco, as well as many bulk and dollar stores. please make sure to
check your childrens halloween candy and DO NOT LET THEM EAT THE
PIRATE COINS (you know the ones wrapped in the shiny gold foil) and
please let other parents know about this!

Christmas candy ideas
My husband and I make about 30 tins of candy each year to give to family and friends.  We make chocolate covered cherries (just dip cherries in melted chocolate), white chocolate covered pretzels with red and green chocolate drizzled on top, turtles (I buy a 5 lb chunk of caramel), buckeyes (peanut butter balls dipped in chocolate), peanut butter kiss cookies, mixed nut clusters dipped in chocolate and peanut butter fudge.  All of it is pretty simple, just time consuming.  My family really looks forward to receiving it each year.  I use a double boiler for melting chocolate.  I haven't had much luck in the microwave.  If you would like specific instructions for any of the above, feel free to e-mail me.  I think the kids could do a lot of the dipping to help out.
Candy making question

If I make some candy would it still be good for Christmas? I'm going to make those Peanut Butter Bon Bons today.

How do you make you choolate chips and paraffin wax to dip them in? I can't remember how many choc chips I used before, but one time the candy didn't get as hard as it should.

I always keep these in the fridge anyway.

Nutmeg muffins, cookies, cake

Is there a local candy making store?
They may have them, but not sure.  I'm in Delaware, but we have a store that carries all kinds of little things to make your own candy.  I do remember seeing cinnamon chips, and I wonder where they went?  I wonder if you also tried Hershey's website for them or other websites.  I wonder if you Google cinnamon chips????  just a thought....
What's your favorite Christmas treat/candy, etc?
Mine are the 'chocolate oranges' and Andes mints.

For homemade stuff, can't beat fudge, Chex mix and Christmas sugar cookies.

What're your favorites?
