Use containers, that is what I do every year
There are ways to do it so that you don't make your yard all nasty. Also, there are some places where they have community gardens. You can get a plot in a community garden a lot of times for free. Here, we have one that is run by the Catholic nuns. You get a 10 x 6 foot plot to do what you want with and you don't have to pay for the water. You should check that out.
For those of you that are large like me....
Where do you buy your large size bras?

I need a 40C and am having a hard time finding anything.

Aside from losing weight, which I am working on, do you have any recommendations?

Well, I have a large shopping bag (sm)
hanging in the spare room closet and have about 4-5 little stocking stuffers already purchased and in there. Does that count?
In my garden
Rose of Sharon's are about done blooming, butterfly bush is about spent because of the heat, day lilies were done blooming weeks ago! I do have one of the popular new rose bushes but I think the heat is affecting it in that it looks healthy but is not producing buds.

I cannot grow a geranium with a plug nickel. I have begonias that are doing well in pots. Marigolds do well and a purple salvia which are pretty together. I do have some petunias but my schedule has been so hectic the last few weeks that I haven't been able to take good care of them and pinch of the spent blooms. I think the heat is taking its toll on them too.

Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your 75-degree whether. The temp here is over 100 today with heat index of around 108! We desparately need rain.
Me either. I have a big garden tub
and I resent the space it takes up. What I want to do is get it out and move the washer and dryer into that space. One small tub in the house is enough for me. So I'd say most people will care more about the shower and not care about fanciness of a tub. It should look good, take up little space, and be easy to clean. A clawfoot would mean you'd have to mop under and behind it. Not great.
We are also trying to get a garden going as well.
I am also been trying to plan my menu on what is on special.
Have always had a garden. Usually have (sm)
my menu based around what we have ready in the garden. Have green onions, lettuce and radishes now. Peas coming on soon and strawberries will be turning soon. As more stuff comes on I find I buy less and less from the grocery store and usually either can or freeze the surplus. My chickens enjoy any spoiled produce thus cutting down on my feed bills for them. I have always enjoyed these things, but this year I will really appreciate the money I will be saving as well.

Hope all of us have bumper crops this year.

I used to keep it in the garden tub!
The silly cat still made a mess, but at least the dogs couldn't get to it, even if they got past the baby gate in the hall.

As a member of a large church I am always around others. We have different sm
groups and we do dinner once a month, shopping once a week (if you can make if of course), movies once a month, etc. Then I attend a Bible study on Wednesdays with another large group of women and we will get together a lot and talk on the phone during the week, etc. This, along with my family, sister, in laws, etc., and I am far from being an introvert working at home doing MT. Been at it for 8 years.

To be honest, and don't take this the wrong way, but as an MT or anyone who works from home, you decide if you want friends, a social life, etc. We work 8 hour days or some of us work 4 hours. That leaves you lunch hour to get together with a friend or 2, after work for dinner, shopping, and a movie, and then weekends for a couple of hours. We all need balance. It is not healthy to be at home all day with no interaction whatsoever. You will begin to suffer if you continue living that way. Trust me, as a former depressed person who suffered from post-partum depression for 4 years (yes, you read that right!), I had to make a decision that I would not exclude myself from my friends and family, would make NEW friends while I was at it, and it has turned me into a very positive and fun person to be with.

I can't tell you how many parties I've hosted since coming out of my depression. My friends call me Rachel Ray with a mix of Paula Deen (I'm leaning more towards Paula), since I LOVE to decorate and entertain and be a blessing to others, ministering to them if I can, lend an ear or a hand if I can and have an "open" home where people can drop by if they need to talk about something. My life has been fantastic since overcoming depression.

I'm not saying all extroverts are depressed, but that was the reason for me.

Good luck.
what about one of those very large storage tubs--sm
you can buy from walmart for about 7 or 8 dollars. They are pretty large and you can cut a "door" in the side of it so they can get in and out. just a thought.

I think you are right to some extent. I personally try hard to keep my word and when I can't, I feel bad about it! I call as soon as I know it's not going to work and I apologize. I try hard not to say I can do something if I am not sure I can. I don't make other plans for that timeframe that I have already committed to see someone during. How is that so hard? If someone is "iffy" about something, they need to say "I don't know, can I get back with you?" Not just say yes and then forget about it. I know a lot of people these days who seem to plan several things for the same time period and then whichever one they feel like doing at the moment gets priority - regardless of who else is inconvenienced or whose time is wasted by it. (I know I'm ranting here...making me feel better...haha.) Then they don't even understand why you are angry or why it is offensive...as though you are being unreasonably demanding to think that someone is going to try to do what they said they would do. Whew.....ok, I'm done. Think I will look at my navel now...lol

Herb garden

My friends planted a herb garden in thiers.  They built a square flower garden probably 6 x 6 or so, lined with 4 x 4 timbers or something of the such, planting colorfull flowers at ground level but in the tub they planted a herb garden.  Oh it smelled so good.  Chives, mint, sage, thyme, rosemary, lemon balm (made the most relaxing tea from those leaves, just pick and steep).

It truly is exciting at the Garden
Just wanted to add that when I was down on the floor the first day at breed judging I called my sister back home and she was amazed. She said, Oh my God, that sounds like so much fun! All around you could see people in seats, people standing, people all over the floor, cheering, etc. It is infectious in the best sense. The day goes by so quickly. Best In show has to be seen to be believed! They turn the lights way down and you can hear a pin drop. When the Golden Retriever went around I literally thought the place would come down. When the Dalmation, Boomer, one for nonsporting a woman about three seats from us shot up out of her seat and cheered. What fun, what a magical night to see over 20,000 people standing and cheering for man's best friend. I am so excited just talking about it. Thanks for your interest. As you see, I could go on and on. I have memories that will last forever! I tape it every year and have several years to watch.
oh drats, no garden.
just weeds and dog doo-doo.

Envy those who grow, tho.

planting a garden
I have planted a garden this year. Also as other posters I am trying to plan my shopping around coupons and store sale ads. I live in a rural area so I am planning more day trips to get things done and not running out 2-3 times a week. If possible, its done in one trip on Saturday or Sunday. I am also planning on getting a laundry line outside because I have heard it can have a significant impact on your utilities if you dry clothes outside as opposed to the dryer and started letting my dishwasher air dry instead of heat dry. Every little bit will adds up these days. Not as many weekend trips being planned for this summer either. Those that are being considered are old fashioned tent camping.
Have an 18 y/o Whirlpool, top load, large capacity - sm
not one lick of trouble (knock on wood)--got it with the house (it was 10 then). Have all Whirlpool appliances except for the stove; all are 18-y/o and working great. Very reliable.
What does a small child look like to a large dog, if NOT prey???

Exactly, a very large *gated* community in my state
was pretty much taken over by mostly gang/drug dealer types! I guess they want to keep the cops out ; ) lol
I use middle rack unless large cut that needs more room.

In a city with a large gay/lesbian population, gay -sm
marriage is an everyday issue. The kids hear both sides of it. They're not isolated in coccoons, and they watch TV and see the negative ads running right now. If they go to Sunday school, then they probably get fed a large dose of fear and intolerance there, as well.

I think it IS educational for a bunch of SF kids to go see a wedding, especially if it's their own teacher. They already know she's gay. And they already know she's are real human being that they probably all love.

What they get out of the experience is a very strong reason to question the hatred & bigotry surrounding the issue of who should be allowed to marry, and who should not.
I'm large-chested, but I only wear push-ups

I wear a 42DD and I wear push-ups because even though I'm large breasted, I droop.  Push-ups provide more contour and shaping than regular underwires.

If you are having problem with muffintop, though, you're not trying the right size.  Go to JCP or Victoria Secret and have them measure you.  Oprah says 40% of women wear the wrong bra size.

As far as push-ups go, I really like the ones by Ambrielle, which are sold by JCP.

Maybe she's thinking of large apartment complexes??
I would think it would be a lot harder to stop people from smoking in those types of apartments when there are maybe hundreds of apartments in a lot of different buildings like they have in big cities. I can understand not smoking in a one or two family home type apartment.
Fresh lettuce from the garden!
Luv that stuff.  Your sammy sounds delicious!  Yummmm...  TX for sharing...
Interesting front garden
Interesting use of wooly thyme.
Summer garden blahs
Any gardners out there?  Here in Indiana we are in the midst of this heat wave.  Our temps have run in the high 90's to over 100 for about the last two weeks.  My flower beds really have the blahs!  Any suggestions what to put in them right now?  I know mums are right around the corner but a little too early for that.  Any suggestions of something that will come up each year that brightens the garden in Aug-Sept.  My beds were so pretty this spring and early summer.  I'd like to hear your suggestions!
You know, that's what the doc said! He told me to plant a garden or
pick weeds! Amazing. I remember one time recently when I was really PMDDing I wanted to rip my family's head off (each member one by one) but sat outside on the step, in the dark and heard the leaves move in the breeze. I sat out there for I don't know how long and I contained myself and felt more peaceful. It was not weed picking (it was at night), bust just being outside of the house in the cool air listening to the nothing of nature really helped.
I do think with this job I feel guilty to leave the house. Or maybe if I do leave I will never come back, LOL. I did get a red schwinn for Christmas from my husband (a hint to get out of the house I guess), and every day I think of a reason not to get out there. We are so lucky to work at home, I wonder why I dont just do it?
Thanks for all of your suggestions everybody. I am going to make a list of all these things and together I bet I will feel much better. I do already just for your helping me here. Thank you so much! :)
I may try a veggie garden this year too.
in the past i have not had time to keep up with one but i think i will this year while working at home for MQ. maybe you have tried everything for your garden eaters, don't know but I have heard you can sprinkle black pepper all over the garden and it will keep a lot of animals out bc they do not like the smell. you have to reapply with rain but it might be worth a try.

i normally have flowers galore! but i may do some veggies this year as you said they are getting SO expensive in the stores. i have had great luck with barrel gardens in the past and they look really nice on a patio.
Guess it got moved. I suggested a large or 2 smaller

garden, fewer trips to the store - sm
Watching the sale papers for really good deals and planning meals around those. Safeway and Albertsons usually have a few 10 for $10 sales every week. I will max out those sales on a couple items if we use a lot of them.

Trying to stretch a gallon of milk is getting more expensive too. Powdered milk is skyrocketing along with everything else but it still does make a gallon last a little longer so will keep doing that. We go through at least a gallon a day, sometimes more.

Telling the kids that I am not the local taxi service for their friends and cannot provide them transportation here and there all the time. My own kids will have to work harder to combine their schedules to cut back on needless trips too.

If one is one place and another somewhere else, I will only drop off or pick up ONCE.

Used to be that the kids would have me running 4-5 trips a day. No more. If they can't leave or be picked up at the same time, too bad.
I fertilize my garden with kelp and magnesium
And I take a supplement. It is wonderful stuff. I filter my water also and take vitamins, but guilty of not giving up diet sodas!

There are a lot of yoga positions for thyroid also that you can really feel it working!
Found a list, and this one includes broccoli but in large amounts.

Deer and rabbits especially think my garden is an outdoor diner. (sm)
Have tried multiple things, can keep rabbits out of green beans, peas and lettuce until they get larger and not so palatable by using chicken wire bent over the rows and pegged down. The deer seem to prefer to just rip smaller branches off the fruit trees and really seem to hit the melons hard.

One of the things that I have tried and works pretty well for me is Irish Spring tied in the branches of fruit trees. I suppose it is the smell they don't like.

Anything else you come up with, please share.

The produce in the store isn't going to do anything but get higher with strikes, etc.
Surgeon said he had large exuberant hemorrhoids! Are they wearing party hats?

Meatloaf, baked potatoes, cukes and tomatoes out of the garden. (sm)
Maybe if I get finished with taking the grandkids to their extra-curricular activities early enough I will bake a cake. Been hungry for chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting.
Ohhh how I miss cornfields and fresh garden tomatoes!
They don't grow very well in the desert...but I also don't miss the humidity in the summer and the "bird size" mosquitoes!

mine brought me a very alive green garden snake

EXCELLENT! Whatever you do, please
dont mutilate their claws! I have adopted two lovely males who were butchered in this way and they are OVER-aggressive to compensate for their lack of natural defense.

And this solution really does work. If you say HEY loudly while you spritz them eventually just the HEY will work... they are trainable to a degree.

If you can't get a scratcher box, even a sheet of cardboard will do - good luck!
