Let Go and Let God sm

I am in a 12-step program (Al-Anon) and it has taught me that the only person I can control is myself.  When I try to control anyone else or anything else, that's when I (and everything else) get in trouble.  You can lay the groundwork and in this case I think that may be such things as making sure your daughter has access to the resources she needs such as birth control, disease control, counseling, programs such as Alateen if that applies, people who will listen (hopefully such as yourself) when/if she needs them.

I am a bit concerned about your statement that if she gets pregnant you and your husband will raise the child "cause we won't let her throw her life and plans for college away to raise an unplanned child."  I believe that it is not your "right" to do so.  She needs to be responsible for her actions and the consequences of them.  You would not be doing her any favors by controlling the situation, once again, by taking the "problem" away.  As a mother, I know how hard it is to let your child make their own decisions and mistakes and possibly even go so far as to injury themselves or others with the choices they make.  But it is THEIR choice.

What I would do (and do on a daily basis with my son) is to Let Go and Let God (or my higher power).  It is definately not easy and it usually doesn't happen overnight but with practice it can be done.  I take a deep breath and stop trying to control the situation and especially my son.  When I'm able to do that, things get better.

Good luck.
