My MIL...

In Reply to: Again, boy sounds just like my MIL -- once we -sm -

after much begging and pleading with me to allow her to have my son over for the day when he was an infant (yes I was overprotective as a young mom)...I reluctantly agreed to a full day visit. I got all of his bottles ready for the day, everything else that she would need, etc...Went over the instructions with her that he was only to have formula and not juice...Well...at the end of the visit I noted that 2 of the bottles were untouched and that he had apparently missed 2 feedings...She said "Oh no...I gave him Mountain Dew and some mashed potatoes and boy did he love it." I nearly had a heart attack but kept my feelings contained and stressed to her that he should NEVER have Mountain Dew in his bottle and he was not to have adult foods yet either. She just laughed and said I was too protective. A few months later when I decided to give her a shot again at babysitting..my son was teething...She told me he was no problem for her because she had rubbed whiskey on his gums. AAAHHHHHH.... I remained respectful to this woman over the years, tried to re-educate her gently as to the way things are done now, etc...but she would continue to laugh it off and do whatever she pleased. Looking back now...may be this is why she treats my daughter differently, because I didn't allow her to babysit her until she was old enough to tell me what was going on. I lived and learned with my son and didn't want to go through it again with my daughter. In any case, my only regret was giving this woman unsupervised visits with my son....I also found out when my son was 6 that he and his step-grandfather (her husband) would sit and watch "boobie movies" but "it was okay because he covered one eye!" AHHHHHH
