How dare you call me ludicrous for my convictions! Get lost. I am allowed to believe how I wish.

Would definitely at least call the child's parents...sm

It may very well be that it is just a little kid is mad and one of those things that are very normal for kids this age to do.  You know, my dad's gonna beat up your dad kind of thing.  However, the parents need to know that their daughter is threatening violence towards your daughter and using dad as her back up.  He may not even own a gun, who knows?  I would just politely explain the situation to them and let them know you wanted to work with them so it wouldn't get blown out of proportion at school.  If she is just acting in the typical manner, the school still won't see it that way because of so many shootings, and this may cause even more trouble for your family and Maya's.  Don't know if you have this in your area, but our schools have the safe schools act, and it is a zero tolerance policy.  Statements like that here have gotten kids expelled from school, and they were not allowed back into the public system until an extensive interview with the school administration and psychiatrist and a lot of paper work.  Then the discipline is all on their record, even infractions that ended up as no threat.

I would call the counselor out of concern for this child. nm

Absolutely call Child Protective Services sm

11 years old is much too young to be home alone all day, much less with a younger sibling. Even 13 years old is pushing it. Alone, maybe. With a younger sibling, absolutely not.

If it were me, I would call Child Protective Services. You might wait a couple of weeks after the incident you mentioned so it won't be totally obvious that you are the one who called. But this is a bad situation and it is not going to get any better unless someone does something about it.

Good luck!

Child Protective Services needs a call about this situation. This has a big red warning

My g'mother died in the 70s at the age of 75.
NM
Then I smell something fishy here, why would the g'mother
try to take bankruptcy with such an income like that? I would be willing to say someone is trying to scam some government agency such as welfare or the like.
You are so right, it did itch at first
and then got larger. It does not go as far as my face, does it? Just kidding. It is larger and ugly but on the side of the foot so not as noticable. Thanks.
Husband gets mad and calls me a *itch....

We have been married for 10 years.  Lately when he gets mad I am reduced to being called a *itch.  When we don't make love, it is because I don't want him. Does not matter what I might do, not cook for him, not turn on the heater this morning when I am supposed to be working.

I am an MT working at home.  I have to work a schedule, which I fail to do, so I have to be more stern about what I can and cannot do because I want my job.  Being called a *itch---what does that really mean.  I do not view myself as a *itch but then no one does.  I have read that it is a woman who is extremely disliked, spiteful, overbearing, and I am reduced to this name calling because it is something he wants to call me only because I did not do what he wanted and it made him mad.

He says that he is not in the mental state he should be regarding me working as at home as it is --just not working--   Yes, for years it seems I always work as I try to be with the family and as a result I get behind and have to work every spare moment I get and even then do not make my commitment.  Okay, I do get fatigued, maybe depressed, but I love working at home and I know that I have to stick to my schedule.  maybe 70% of that is my fault but a lot is from him as well wanting me to do things for him that he can do for himself. like wash his clothes for work, sometimes he does and sometimes he doesn't.

Well the reason for all that is to ask.... does my husband really hate me so much to call me a *itch.  What really does he mean?  I am not overbearing.  I let him do whatever he wants.  He did not have to work for years.  Now he finally gets a job and he is all high and mighty about me and what I do and don't do.  He can improve on things just as much as I can.  does that mean you have to yell, scream, rant, and rave because he don't get his way.

He says the way to a man's heart is his stomach.  Yeah, I have heard all that but does that mean you have to take it so literal.  If we don't make love, it is because I don't want him and then he throws a big hissy.  I am a man.  My testerone levels get too high!  he start punching the wall!  okay, maybe we don't have time, maybe I am trying to get caught up on work and trying to balance all things, cooking, cleaning, being with my 1 child and husband and work.

Yes, I am reduced to yelling right back at him.  Everyday I think I am not going to yell, but I do anyway.

Sorry, any advice.  I feel we havea  shallow relationship now.  He gets mad and then I am a *itch.  I try to get along with him and watch our shows together, then, later I get yelled at because I made time to watch TV.  We make love, I think we are getting closer, and something else sets him off.  I realize we have deep issues we have to work out, but I also think getting mad making the other person miserable is not the answer.

What does he really mean when he says I am a *itch now.  helpless....

Whatever's on sale & unscented. Scented makes me itch! (nm)

I totally understand your point but people saying itch when they mean scratch

Creams make me itch even more, what I have used is Aveeno skin relief body wash, not the packets
you dissolve in the water, but the actual wash that costs anywhere between $6-7 depending on where you live and was with that 2-3 times a day.  You can try that too and see if it helps her any.
Should say the child found in Florida proved to be the Caylee child, homicide.

What? Gays are not allowed to have fun? SM
Is Disney World or whatever only for heteros?  Sad.
Are we not allowed to say the D word or something?
lol! Even the new pizza hut commercial disses both Domino's and Papa Johns - have you seen it? Hysterical. Have to say that Pizza Hut does take the prize for best pizza, hands down IMO.
As far as I know, doctors are allowed to do this
in certain states, but they still need the approval of the nearest relatives.
They do this if somebody is terminally ill and the patient himself expresses the wish that their life should be ended.

I'm pretty sure it is allowed - my mom is retired but (sm)
She is still on my stepfather's insurance and not Medicare. I don't think it is required at all. You may be able to use it as secondary, though, I don't know. http://questions.medicare.gov/cgi-bin/medicare.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?
As an IC, I don't think they are allowed to have you on a set schedule. Other companies have
gotten in legal trouble because they were treating ICs as employees. With my IC job, I let them know when I can work and, if they need extra help, they will call and ask if I can do more, but they do not TELL me when to work.
She ALLOWED it to happen. She signed for it.
She's no saint nor even a decent parent to not stand up for her child.

What a bunch of crap.

Mine were not allowed to come to my house as much
as the other grandparents because they wanted to (at a very young age) go directly to my work room with all the wires running all over the floor, computers that belonged to the hospital, not my equipment and their mother got bent out of shape that I tried to keep them out of that particular room, telling me they could do anything at her mother's house, hello guess so her mother never even had a job and had plenty of time to run after them and clean up behind them. This can go either way!!
Should he be allowed to keep the Bible on his desk?
Apparently, it's just sitting there. He's not teaching from it.

A Mount Vernon science teacher said yesterday that he will refuse to remove a Bible from his classroom desk, despite his school district's order.

"Thousands of citizens in this community have built their lives on deeply held religious convictions, and it is for them that I stand today," John Freshwater, 51, who teaches at Mount Vernon Middle School, said in a news release.

The religious activist Dave Daubenmire, Freshwater's friend, acted as his spokesman yesterday. "This is not a religion issue; this is a free-speech issue," Daubenmire said. "He didn't take the Bible to read to anybody."

Mount Vernon Superintendent Steve Short said Freshwater's characterization of the events leading to the district order that he remove religious items from his classroom was "not entirely accurate," but Short wouldn't elaborate.

The district later released a one-paragraph statement saying that district officials don't oppose religion but are required "under the First Amendment of the United States Constitution to protect against the establishment of religion in the schools. As a public school system the district cannot teach, promote or favor any religion or religious beliefs."

Freshwater and Daubenmire believe that separation of church and state "is a fraud" and that the framers of the Constitution never intended it to be practiced the way it is today, Daubenmire said.

The district asked Freshwater last week to remove the Ten Commandments from the door to his classroom and remove the Bible from the view of students. About 3,900 students attend Mount Vernon schools. Mount Vernon is about 52 miles northeast of Columbus.

Freshwater took down the Ten Commandments but decided that being prevented from taking a Bible into the classroom was going too far.

In the past, Freshwater has taught his students about the "holes in evolution" and intelligent design, the theory that a supernatural power created complex forms of life, Daubenmire said.

"Would our government ask a follower of Islam to remove her burqa in order to teach school?" Freshwater said in his written statement. "Would we ask a science teacher to remove The Origin of Species from his desk merely because the origin of man has never been proven?

"I cannot with a clear conscience follow a directive that makes religion and the religious viewpoint any less credible by those who deem themselves more enlightened."

Freshwater wouldn't answer questions directly because of the likelihood he will file a lawsuit charging "viewpoint discrimination," Daubenmire said.

Daubenmire is the former London High School football coach whose district was sued in 1999 by the American Civil Liberties Union because he led his players in prayer at games, practices and meetings. The district settled out of court, and its insurance company paid the ACLU $18,000 for court costs.

no letter p was allowed on this street
When my dd was first learning her alphabet we were driving down the street
one day and she asks me why no letter p was allowed on this street. It took me a minute to realize she was talking about a no parking sign.
Are they adults? No. R-rate means under 17 not allowed. sm
Easy answer.
I was allowed to have guy friends stay overnight BUT -sm
they could not sleep in my room with me. They were welcome to crash on the couch. My parents knew I was having sex with them but it was their house and their rules. I never really had a problem with it and plan to do the same with my 2 girls.
Animals not allowed to roam where we live
by the rules in our community and my cats are indoor ALWAYS - that does not mean others keep theirs in. I tried to rescue a squirrel the cat next door caught in front of my home so they would turn the squirrel loose and the other day a Great Dane (apparently in heat) came into my yard and then the dog next door came over to try to romance that one. I really, really hate to see animals out anywhere - oh the other day was told we have coyates (sp?) in the neighborhood and be sure not to let animals out- 1 lady found only tufts of hair and collar from cat apparently killed them them. I usually am trying to feed strays when I see them.
Not allowed to swim at Disney "beaches" though
They have little man-made beaches at some of the resorts, but you are not allowed to swim in the water. Stayed at several places at Disney... Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Caribbean Beach, Coronado, Dixie Landings, Dolphin/Swan... and it's the same at all. You can play in the sand, but you have to use the pools.
they are not allowed in miami-dade county

Pit bulls are either not allowed in Miami-Dade County in Florida but I heard something about having $600,000 insurance if you own one.....but that COULD be Broward County where they are allowed.  I'm in Miami.

If I allowed my daughter to have a live in boyfriend I would at least
have put her on Depo. What did she think was gonna happen?

p.s.--he's NINTEEN!!
I tried to post a couple but wasn't allowed....
The words on here are vulgar compared to the ones I had. It is a real doctor's name. How do I post like everyone else?
If you rent, it may not be allowed. Rotties, pits,
dobermans, chows, and german shepards are often on landlords 'not allowed' lists, for liability reasons.

I'm a dog-person, and have known quite a few rotts, and none of them were friendly to anyone but their master.

I think one of the best choices for a 'first big dog' would be a labrador retriever. Laid-back, not as barky, usually love everyone, great family dogs, yet big enough to possibly deter a burglar.

Should smoking ONLY be allowed in private single family homes

March 14, 2007— Dozens packed the Belmont (California) city council chambers tonight for the first public airing of a new smoking ban proposal.

The law would give Belmont the toughest smoking ban in the nation — possibly in the world.

The crackdown aims to curb the harmful effects of second-hand smoke by preventing puffs not just in parks and around public buildings — but in private apartments and city streets as well. If the law passes, the only places left in Belmont to smoke would be single family homes and private cars.

Mayor Coralin Feierbach says the proposal was made to protect residents who suffer from health problems aggravated by smoke. The council didn't take action tonight. It's just the first of several meetings to discuss the proposal.

it's not illegal, but it's inappropriate & he shouldn't be allowed to teach anymore

As a child...
I never sucked my thumb and never had a pacifier. I had crowding of teeth as an adult because of wisdom teeth pushing on them. It really is the size/shape of your mouth/palate that determines crooked teeth, and that is determined by genetics.
More than one child
We were planning on only having one child, but 10 years later (she's almost 4 now) we did have a second one which I of course don't regret for a minute. The only thing I can say is don't listen to those that say you have to have a second child. That's all I heard for years. How can yo just have one, and on and on. It's nobody's business but you and your husband.
Yes, have gone since I was a child.
My kids also go, ages 20, 17 and 15.   It fills my spiritual tank for the week and our pastor is so wonderful and uplifting and we have a fabulous congregation. I don't feel right if I miss a week.
No H is an only child LOL.
That is probably what the problem is too.  No other children to dote on.
A dog is not a child and has different
needs from a child. But even a child is put in a bassinet to sleep in when they are small to control how much they roll around. Then later they are put in a crib. Is that a cage for you too? Or do you put the child on a full-size mattress and hope for the best? No, you carefully listen to all the rules about safe mattresses for infants and how soon pillows can be used and what position is safest for an infant.

For dogs, you need to get to know them before you give them free reign of the house. Otherwise they might get into something we didn't think of to put up and die. This dog is in the age range of 12-18 months. We can already tell he is inquisitive. We don't know how much time he has spent in a house because he was abandoned at the shelter. We will observe him and train him and grant him more freedoms as he proves himself ready.

Dogs in the wild use dens. You are misinformed, probably by PETA folks who would have you release your Yorkshire terrier to the wild to fend for itself if they had their druthers.
I was 29, he's my only child
before I had him I had two miscarriages in the same year (when I was 28). He is almost 13. I'm in downstate NY and at his school school (it's a Catholic school) many of his classmates' parents are at least as old as I am. Hope to get married soon but probably too late for another..
of course he is my child
I have his age wrong though. He is 31. How on earth can I or should I stop him from stating his own opinion? It is certainly not unusual for an 18-year-old male to use the word, even when talking about his evil GM. He was 18 when dear G'ma died. I'm telling you, the woman was evil, evil, evil!!!! Even my ex-DH (is there such a thing) didn't like her. The only reason my older son liked her was because he was the first grandchild and she worshipped him. When my SIL had 2 kids, they were okay for a while, then she didn't want to mess with them either. She liked dogs and cats more than people. And, by the way, I am really relating to all of you out there who go to your MIL's for all the holidays and not your mom's. I did that also, because I dearly loved my FIL and my SIL, BIL, etc. If I had it to do over again, I think I would have shared a little more. My mom is only 70, but no one is promised tomorrow. We do all holidays together now.
Right - I don't think they should take the child because (sm)
no matter what, children love their parents and would be traumatized to be taken away from them, so unless they are being terribly mistreated, I don't think they should ever be taken. Children who go thru life in foster homes are rarely ever happy. But Social Services could go in and help them get things cleaned up if that is why. It may not be, but in my case that was the problem. I eventually at about age 11 or 12 went out and bought bug spray and sprayed my hair and brushes and sprayed my PILLOW regularly to keep the bugs away. I am sure that was horrible for my health but I was desperate.
Because he's still YOUR CHILD, and he still needs to know he is welcome. nm

child with SVT. sm
Hi.  My 16-year-old son is suspicious for SVT.  Anyone else experience this?  I had made an appointment for March, and now the doc is calling me and wants to see my son next week.  He has already had an echo and an event monitor.  Don't know if I should be freaked out or not.
Yes, first child....nm

Would you have said anything about this child?
I was at a very big market (international) this morning and as I exited the lunch room to retrieve my cart, saw a very young child alone in a cart with no one around. I stood there not moving for several minutes wondering where a parent might be. I could not even see a person in front or back of him that seemed to be paying attention to this child (probably around 3 or 4 years of age). The serving line in front does have glass so I could see the people buying their lunches. Finally I noticed a man that was looking around frequently at the child and finally he got through the line and came and picked the child up. I approached him to say how it is so easy for a person to snatch his child (John Walsh's on AMW had his young child snatched and killed in similar, only taking a second) and this man looked annoyed and said thank you for your thoughts and hurried away. Clearly child endangerment here but would you have said anything or just let it go?
How do you know it was actually his child?
That's what's scary.
I have a child like this...

(This turned out long.  Please stick with me.)

Like your son, it started in infancy.  He could throw a fit that could go on for 30 minutes.  If it was related to going to sleep, he would cry for hours no matter what I tried.  (Yes, i did have him ruled out for medical causes.)  He just could not calm himself down and he wanted what he wanted when he wanted it.  It started to feel like a war zone and the other kids were not getting the attention they needed because I felt like I had to deal with his bad behavior all the time.

When he was very young (infancy to about 3 years old), I would let him throw his fits and try to ignore them.  After about 30 minutes, I picked him up and rocked him and he always seemed to be relieved and would start to calm down.  I did not give into his demands.  It just was a way for him to know that I loved him even when he acted bad.

But you know what... A few months ago (he is 5 now), he was acting up yet again and I tried to talk to him.  I told him that I knew he was a good boy and that he was just having a hard time with his anger.  He was totally blown away that I thought he was a "good boy."  In his head, he thought he was bad.  This was an eye opener for me.

Because I had my own issues with frustration, I decided to work on me first.  I was sick of the war zone.  That is still a work in progress, but I feel a lot more calm when dealing with him now.

I explain things to him up front.  If we are going to a store, I tell him that I expect him to stand still by me.  If he wants to look at something, he can ask me, etc.  Then I ask him what he thinks the consequence will be if he does not mind.  Sometimes he answers, sometimes not.  Then, I tell him exactly what will happen.  No favorite TV channel or no playing with a favorite toy, something like that.  Just so he knew exactly what would happen if he makes certain CHOICES.  I also don't argue.  It only gets me wound up.  I put the onus back on him.  Counting 1...2...3 gives him a warning to change his behavior or deal with consequences.

I also communicate a lot about other's people reactions to when he "acts good" and "acts bad."  How the things that happen to him are often influenced by his CHOICES.   "Other children may not want to play with someone who ...only wants their way ... does not share ... hits."  "If you share your toy, your friend probably want to share his toys with you."

I praise him when I notice he has done something "good", like brushing his teeth without being reminded.  I tell how much I appreciate it (Because I do.  When you have 3 kids, its a really help when they can do something for themselves.) Someone knowledgeable told me the ratio of praise to discipline is 4:1.  I doubt that I hit that ratio, but I do look for things my kids do right.

None of this is easy for me.  I feel like I am talking myself blue in the face.  I am naturally quiet and not always willing to communicate verbally.  I'm praying the more I communicate now, then eventually I won't have to talk so much later.  Or at least, we can talk about more pleasant things.

I will say though that my son is starting to understand that he will not always get his way, and if he cooperates with me, I am willing to cooperate with him.  There has been good improvement since I started with this in April.
