Lots of people and traffic, but I love going to visit. Good beach and pier. If you're not staying at the beach and want to go, there is a trolly where you can park your car (We usually do this at Summerlin mall) and ride the trolly to the beach, to avoid finding a place to park. Also, Sanibel and Captiva islands are close by, which are neat. There are a few major league teams that have spring training in the area, which is fun. Make sure you get a street map to make it easier to get around there. If you are going to live, Cape Coral is nearby and that is a nice place to live. There is just about any type of living arrangement - apartments, condos, manufactured homes, regular homes. It is a great place. Golf course communities.

Help! I live next to parents and they ...sm
are driving me mad, well my dad is anyways. I have always lived on my parents land next door to them. I live in a mobile home. Well my mom and dad divorced this year because my dad was cheating. He was calling another woman up to 10 times a day, going to her house, has give her everything he has. He owned cattle and sold them and got $32,000 for them. Well the money disappeared and he was broke before long. This woman he is cheating with is on disability and lives in a house and has a SUV. Her daughter has a car and son a truck and none of them work. Mama has looked on his bank statements and seen where he is making their payments. Well of course mom put him out. Like to never got him out. He got a mobile home and parked it on the land. She got 3 acres and the house in divorce. He has the remaining 7 acres. Well he puts his mobile home on his part and refuses to hook it up. He is staying in this trailer with no power, no sewage, nothing. There is only a bed. He has had the money to hook it up right. My mother has offered him part of the furniture and a TV. He doesn't want it. He refuses to live like a normal human being. Then he comes to my moms house every day when she gets off of work and wants to come in and take a shower. She is like no we aren't married and you dont' live here. You have a trailer and you go hook it up and take a shower over there. Well it has water to it he just doesn't have electricity so no hot water. Well that is his own problem. He chooses not to have it hooked up because I guess he wants an excuse to come over to moms. Well she tells him no. Then he comes to my house and sits and sits. He comes over because he has no furniture and no TV or nothing. He comes and rumages through my cabinets and bums food. If me and my mom are at my house and decide to cook something he invites himself over there and helps himself. I have never seen anyone who was so annoying. I can't just tell him go away. He refuses to get a washer or dryer which without electricity it wouldn't do any good anyways. So he comes to my house and says can I wash my laundry? Well gues what? I end up doing it cause he doesn't know how to operate the machine. Then he leaves it there and expects me to finish it. I can not hardly do my work because he comes over and says are you busy? I just wanted to talk. I won't take but a minute. Then he just sits there. I am at my wits end. I just want to move. He came over and said can I borrow a duffle bag? I said ok. I give it to him. He says I am gonna go buy one and I will bring it back. I never have got it back. Then he comes over and says can I borrow an ice chest. I let him borrow it and never get it back. He bums off of everyone here but this other woman and her children he gives whatever they want. He has taken money from me and my sister. He has borrowed money against my sisters extra vehicle she had paid for. He asked and she let him. he didn't pay it back. THis is his own daughter he did this to now. My husband had a pickup in my dads name because his credit wasn't good enough to buy it. Big mistake. When the truck was almost paid for my dad borrowed money against the truck behind our backs. THen the truck is stolen and insurance has to pay it off. Well it was worth more than what was owing so we got the differnece. Well he had borrowed $1600 against it and said he didn't have the money to pay it. So it came out of our insurance money from the truck. Finally when we knew he had some money we had to bug him and bug him for the money and he said $1000 is all he owed. He borrowed $1600 and paid one note on it before the truck was stolen. So we were out about $500. He takes from his children. I am at wits end. I want to get far far away from him. My sister lives an hour an a half away and she seems pretty lucky right now. What the heck to do?

Lots and lots of SKATING ! - sm
Mostly inline street skating, up & down hills, too. Some roller skating and roller-disco. I was doing ice-skating, but can't afford it anymore, plus I prefer to skate outdoors. It works all muscles, is low-impact, fairly quick to learn compared to other sports, like skiing, is a cheap sport, and excellent for keeping balance & reflexes sharp. Most of the people I skate with look & act 10-20 years younger than their chronological ages.
I MAKE the time to skate. I eat my lunch at my desk, but take a break in the late afternoon before it gets dark, to exercise. This can also include a walk or jog around the neighborhood, bike ride into town to go to the market (cheaper than driving), a fast inline skate around town, or dance practice on a local tennis court. Then I work into the evening for as long as it takes to finish up.
Calling all you animal lovers - live and let live or intervene? - sm
I have a dilemma. I am an animal lover and have something I cannot come to a conclusion about. At a restaurant where I eat lunch every Friday with a friend of mine, I have noticed a young male kitty hanging around outside looking for food. This past week he ran up to my friend and rubbed her legs and quietly meowed. I purposely did not try to pet him because I knew I would get attached and ignored him. Well, ever since then I find myself thinking about him and wanting to rescue him. Meanwhile, I already have 4 inside cats (2 rescues, 2 Maine Coons) and hubby really does not want another cat in the house because a few years ago I promised we would never have more than 4 (had up to 5 at one point previously). I actually have a huge screened deck he could stay on indefinitely because I do not believe in letting cats run loose for their own safety. I could provide plenty of food, a warm place to sleep, and veterinary care. At some point I would even probably work him into our household, but I just cannot do it at the moment. Just not sure I would be doing right by that kitty because I am sure he would be upset and confused for a good while as to where he was and what was going on, but is that better than being hungry and cold? I know there are lots of animal lovers out there. What does everyone think?? 
I'm a live-and-let-live person but had to draw the line
after I found HUGE holes in the walkway between my house and barn. I thought they were just little mice stealing grain, but then I spotted one and it was a HONKIN RAT! My poor olderly cat was out there with me at the time and saw it, and he hissed at it and ran away!
I asked for advice on what to do at a local agricultural board, because I have other animals and didn't want to use poison and conventional traps weren't working. They advised putting a large pale of water out with some seeds floating in it, figuring the rats would go for the seeds and end up drowning. That was a no-go because the water just froze up solid. I wound up reluctantly going with Decon because I just can't have my house destroyed. I haven't had seen any more rats or evidence of them stealing grain, so I'm guessing they have died. The guy at the grain store promised me the rats would not die in the building and stink the joint up, rather they would crawl off and die outside. I don't know if I believe that, as it is still winter here and decomposition would be holding off until it warms up. We'll see, but at least the destruction has been halted.
Good luck and I too say have no mercy, because you just don't need them destroying hour house or causing a spark chewing wires and burnin' the place down. It is war!

Not all dogs want to be in "indoor" dogs, mind you. They have plenty of space to run around and play, fenced, and if they are brought in during bad weather they whine at the back door to go back out! So before you comment on outside dogs, you really need to get your facts straight. Seriously. Not all dogs are made or want to be inside all of the time.

and have been to the symphony here and definitely no hats- you can never go wrong with black dress/slacks. I like to dress a little more for this but the rules are definitely not prim and proper here.

Well, I tried "cohabitating" with a boyfriend when I was 22. We dated for a year, and 3 weeks after we moved in together, he went back to his ex-wife. Never again. I've been married 18 years now to the same guy. Guess I lucked out.
I don't think it's right to do in a biblical sense (even felt that way when I moved in with a guy but my young hormones took over my common sense) but it's sad more people aren't married, they choose to just live together without a great commitment. Then again, as my atty (he lives at the end of our street so I see him often when walking the dogs) always says, his father told him it should be $5,000 for a marriage license and free to get divorced.
As far as the children are concerned, well, I think you should be married before you have children but again, live and let live. I just don't like seeing children have to grow up without the other parent if it can be helped.
The NFL network recently interviewed a former NFL player, Warren Sapp. He was asked why we have so many jerks in the NFL like Terrell Owens, Adam Pacman Jones, etc. He said they all shared a common factor - no father or father figure in their lives growing up. He said to look at players who are humble and don't cause trouble - they are the product of a 2 parent household. It's sad to me because it's commonplace now, not the exception to rule, which I think it should be. I graduated high school in 1985 and even back then, a girl in school who got pregnant got sent away "to live with her aunt for a little while". It was a shame to be pregnant and unmarried but it's a sign of the times.
I sometimes wish I could have grown up in the 50s instead of 70s. :-)

I've got 1 room that turned into a storage room and every week I tell myself I have to get in there and straighten it out. I open the door, look around and close the door, and find something else to do.
I don't have any closets in my house and it drives me nuts. No place to hang coats, etc. when coming in from outside. They get slung over the chair that nobody sits in by the door.
We have 2 sheds and a 1 car 'tent' garage. Hubby keeps half his stuff in the tent garage and shed, I keep some of my stuff in the shed and mom's stuff is in the other shed. The first shed was built when we were moving from the old house, needed some place to go with it until we got in the new place, but it's still there!!!! I can't get to it because of hubby's snow blower and other quipment. I probably have some antiques in there by now. 
Mom died 7 years ago and I still haven't looked to see what's in her shed. I just don't have time.
I love to be organized, but when I organized my home the last time, I couldn't find anything!!!
This is nothing new. Lots cannot get
an apartment because of bad credit, same for jobs as has been discussed before on this board. If you cannot handle credit, people think you cannot handle a job. You might have to go back a few years to see who the bozo person is because just did not happen lately.

I have a 6-y/o daughter that is only 1 year out from her chemo for kidney cancer and has been having some worrying symptoms lately, I have bills, I have lots of home strife to deal with , I have a DH who acts younger than my kids half of the time and cannot deal with any major problems and has undiagnosed depression and possibly bi-polar. I carry a heavy load here so you are not the only one in this world with problems. OH, I am in the USA too, so what does that have to do with anything? The coat just angered me beyond belief, maybe it is the straw that broke my back, my way of venting, who knows, but it something I can at least try to take some action on and maybe get it back. I cannot control my daughter's cancer recovery, all I can do is watch and wait and see if we make it to 5 years recovery without any recurrence, for the bills I am trying to work harder and make more money, for my DH I just deal with him the best I can and do pretty well but not all the time. So I have trival things and big things to worry about and deal with, along with millions of others. Sorry if my kid's coat loss/theft was such a mundane topic to post about but I am/was T'eed off about it and needed to vent and get opinions if I could on this. Yours is duly noted.

Your husband has a good idea about putting the money in savings for six months to make sure you can afford to pay a mortgage that is twice what you are paying now. And after six months, you will have $1800 more to put down on the house.
This is strictly personal experience - but last summer we moved from a 25-year-old house to a brand new one. We lived in the 25yo house for 12 years, and the money we spent remodeling and updating (+ original price) it would have bought us a brand new house of the same size. So I would say go for the newer house if it comes to a choice. Older houses can be a LOT of work.
OTOH, you say your husband likes woodworking. If you're willing to live in a house that is in a perpetual state of remodeling...go for it!

They usually use lidocaine, but it still sounds pretty painful. However, if your mom's doctor thinks she needs one, then I would strongly encourage her to have it done. She could take Tylenol or ibuprofen before the procedure, and if she has Xanax or Valium, she could take one (or her doctor could prescribe one for her). There are several diagnostic imaging tests that they encourage patients to take pain relievers and/or tranquilizers ahead of time. It can really help.

Don't be, there are lots of others who have it far worse- sm
than those of us here with husbands that basically are just spoiled brats who want it all their own way and don't want to have to do anything other than go to work (and most don't even want to do that) come home, eat, and put up their feet and watch TV. Mom is supposed to do it all, cook, clean, deal with the kids on every level, be ready to go when hubby wants sex and work herself, all with a big smile on her face. At least that is what my husband expects, though he does do the cooking though lately he has really cut back and I have had to pick up the slack or no one eats. He cooks for himself and I do the kids and I. I do everything else even cut the grass sometimes as he is "too tired". He has been whining about retiring for years now, he is only 48 but thinks he should be able to quit and I pay all the bills, don't think so as I make only about 20% of what he does. He says when the house is paid off he is quiting. I have told him no that is not an option until the kids are out of college (another 16 years), he is not too happy about that. Once he hits 55 I know it will really become a battle (or when his parents die as he is expecting at least 1M from them), but I will probably quit MT then and go out and get a job especially if he is homw all day then. My only consolation if I do stick it out is I will be a rich widow and he will probably develop cirrhosis in the next few years as he has been drinking 8-12 light beers a day for about 25 years at least, and he does not eat much as well; and hates doctors so by the time he gets any serious illness it will be too late most likely. A friend of mine in the healthcare field is convinced it will happen, just a question of when. Who knows, don't really much care. I keep my kids happy and they do love their daddy and he loves them to pieces too, but he is just a bit too unrealistic in his expectations of them, me and life in general. If push comes to shove I will probably demand he leave, he hates the house and has said on more than one occasion if he goes I can have the house (how generous of him), though I'd demand it be paid off first, so he'd have to raid the 401K for $50K but he would not owe me a penny; and on the side of stupidity I'd probably get a equity line and pay off all the cc debt we have just to shut him up and have less stress about that. That payment is a lot less than a mortgage and it would be worth it in my mind to do. We'd both be paying off debt and he could not whine that I stuck him with that too. Child support will make him whine enough as it is. He'd walk away with a truck, trailer, boat, big screen TV, his collectables/antiques (a lot of stuff), my mom's china (I don't like it and she wanted him to have it when she died and he loves it), a few tables, half the dishes and a 5 acre lot about 12 miles away on which he could build a house. Yes, I have thought this out quite a bit. Anyone in a bad situation, don't bury your head in the sand, think about your options and have a game plan if necessary. Good luck to us all!

Been to lots of places
My favorite all-time place for me has to be Salzburg Austria (birthplace of Mozart), if you want sunny beaches the best time my hsbnd & I ever had was Ibiza (one of the Balearic Islands located in the Mediterranean Sea). We had two weeks of peace and quiet in a little bungalow. Spent every day lying on the beach, drinking sangrias & munching on paella and fresh seafood. Hiked all over the place. Had to take a bus from the airport to the hotel which was a very interesting ride as I felt like I was in a Romancing the Stone movie (we rode with animals on the bus). Sounds horrid but it was actually fun. My other "beach" vacation spot is Greece. Was there for a week. Lots and lots and lots to do there. Beaches, sightseeing, shopping. Mind you these were the mid 1980s when Reagan was president (and our country was a little well more liked than now), so not sure about safety in other countries. Hands down though I say Ibiza has to be the best if you want a relaxing beach vacation.

Chocolate, greens, and by the way, for fiber sprinkle flaxseed over food- no taste, mix in, you never know its there and I second the recommendation about prunes- cooked, dry, very good source.
I'm sure there are lots of stories
about angels, too. I have never "seen" angels, but I have often seen them at work. I thank the Lord for providing protection through them. Whenever I have a "near-miss" I thank the Lord.
My husband told me once when he was trying to change lanes, the steering wheel pulled itself right back so he couldn't. There was a car in his blind spot!
I remember once one of my kids running down the sidewalk and fell. From where I stood it looked like he cracked his head on the step in front of him. I cringed, but when I got to him he was fine. I just know an angel put his hand between the step and his precious head.
My mom was driving one day and didn't see that the intersection was icy. She tried to stop but started sliding. She slid into the path of an oncoming car. She closed her eyes and braced for impact but...nothing. She opened her eyes and the car was past her. She said there was no way he could have missed her.

Patience, Lots and Lots of Patience
First off, she is TOO CUTE! Oh how I miss those days. I have a 2.5 year old Basset boy. He is my third Basset. He was the easiest to potty train, I highly recommend a doggie door. My two prior Bassets weren't trained with a doggie door and I had accidents galore! Once I trained them on a doggie door, no more accidents (they were 4 and 5, so you can teach an old dog a new trick). Crate training is good too, it just takes patience. Basset Hounds are stubborn, but don't give in! I have loved these guys for a long time, they have the best personality.

I have to say I think I may have it better than most. I've been working home almost twenty years and now both kids, 17 and 19, are on the brink of leaving, probably next year. My husband started his own business working at home four years ago, and we're literally (almost) joined at the hip. We share a 10 x 10 office. Yet, we almost never talk. When we do it's business or kid related. Right now I'm making more money than he is, and his business hasn't grown as fast as he had hoped, and now with the economy . .
We started bickering about everything and about once a month have a big blow-up. I went to see a marriage counselor starting a year ago - he absolutely, positively will not go! So I'm going, mostly to find a way to survive another year or two until the kids are gone. I believe it will go one way or the other after that. I hope we stay together. We've both been divorced before and I wouldn't wish that on anybody. And I know the man I married is still in there somewhere. I'm going to do all I can to find him again so we can share the good stuff that we've worked so hard for - not to mention grandchildren when the time comes!

I have lots of cats
You've got a number of issues. The biting and scratching is all part and parcel of being a 4-5 month old kitten. Get lots of toys - some of mine like small catnip toys, others like the small fur mice, and anything that rattles is usually good fun. I also have a small stuffed bear that my mom gave to one of my cats when he was a kitten - she rubbed catnip all over it - and he's over a year old now and he still snuggles with that bear and suckles on it. You might try something like that to give her some comfort.
As to the inappropriate urination, that could be a number of things. You need to take her back to the vet and make sure there are no urinary tract, bladder, kidney or thyroid issues. Many times that can make a cat go someplace other than the litter box. Make sure that the box is someplace she can get to really easily. You might also make sure that it's in a quiet corner. Sometimes cats don't like it if they feel like they're in a main traffic pattern. Clean the box every day, if you don't already. I sometimes get lax on mine and that's when my cats go someplace they shouldn't.
You might also try changing the litter. I use a scoopable and I tried to change to something that was biodegradeable and it was a disaster. The cats hated it and I had huge messes to clean up. There is one you can get at PetSmart called Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract Litter. They have a Kitten Attract formula. I've used it a little bit and the cats LOVE it. The first night I put it in some of the boxes, one of the cats jumped in and started digging like he was digging for gold. Then he just sat there in the box and wouldn't let any of the other cats in it. Fortunately I have a lot of other boxes. It's a little more expensive than the regular Tidy Cat scoopable litter that I use and I have a lot of boxes, so I can't use it all the time, but that would be worth a try.
Febreze works really well for getting out odors. One of the cats occasionally would urinate on my bed and it gets out all the smell. She did it to my new 6 month old Tempur-Pedic mattress too. I could have killed her. She hadn't done it in so long I thought I was safe getting a new mattress. Get a really heavy duty mattress cover, too - that will help in case she does it again so there's no seep through to the mattress.
You might also try Bitter Apple spray. You can get it at PetSmart as well. That should work to keep her away from places you don't want her to go. A former co-worker told me that she took cut lemons and rubbed the juice on plants and her kitten hated it. Cats don't like citrus smell at all.

Yes, 8000 a month sounds great. I wonder how this story got out originally. Did the doctors just hold a news conference or did someone at the hospital blab? Does anyone remember how we all heard about this in the first place?
Doing lots of work around our place
stained two-story house, three buildings and two decks in the last two weeks. Just now getting around to the actual yard work/fall clean up chores today. There's always something to be done. My two-year old grandson and I spent the day picking the last of the garden, pruning back plants and me pulling him around on the wagon behind the mower... what fun he had. We are on 10 acres in So. Indiana, mostly wooded. DH just got a lawn sweeper to hopefully help out with the leaves that are starting to fall. The maples are really pretty right now. Expecting our first REALLY COLD spell on Thursday, but it has been just beautiful the last two days, 75 degrees and sunny. Hard to come back in and transcribe on days like that, especially when you know what is coming in a few months. Next project involves moving lots of rocks to re-do a man-made pond/stream, needs a new liner.. I feel my back aching already, but it has to be done. The ornamental pepper plant sounds interesting, I may look into that one too to see if it will grow where I live, sounds neat.
Well, my son forgot lots of stuff when he
was young and I always made sure he had those things because it was my job as his mother. But, he was not an irresonsible child where I think it counted. He graduated honor roll at his school, band, cross country track team medals, and now he is in the Navy training to be a Navy Seal. I think I did a pretty good job for having such an irresponsible child.

Nope, you're not alone. Lots of us out here in the
same sad boat. Each of these posts - sounds like a disorder called Borderline Personality Disorder - my mom had it and so did my inlaws - its basically an impossible situation to deal with. These people are actually so insecure and unhappy that they crave love and attention, yet they do everything they can to drive everyone away. The games are beyond description, and hurt so badly as they are so masterfully done. Its one of the few psych disorders that psychiatrists still are in disagreement over regarding IF the BPD person is aware of what they are doing (which I believe they are) versus if they are completely unaware of their games, and thus the consequences. My Mom was horrific - yet to outsiders she looked so sweet. My MIL was the same way, and her husband, my FIL, ended up the same way - perhaps the spouses don't actually have the disorder, yet they are so used to behaving in these twisted ways that they are just as hurtful and evil. Even psychiatrists will recommend that you stay away from these people if you want to have a healthy sane life. There is absolutely NO changing the situation or being in charge of it. Know what I mean? Because nothing makes sense with these people. You try to treat them properly, do everything the right way, but the more you do that, the more they will twist things and make the drama. Hard to explain, but there are a lot of great books on the subject. Things like "I hate you, please don't leave", and another one called something like "Walking on Eggshells"...great helps for those of us trying to understand these sad miserable people. You are ignorant about feed lots.
There are many large feed lots for horses that are fattened up and then sent to one of the 3 big slaughter houses in Texas to be sent off to Belgium, Japan, etc, in the form of steaks. I have myself rescued riding horses from auction by outbidding the killer buyers. There are bills pending that will outlaw this terrible thing, but the administration of Bush is against the bill and is supportive of the horse slaughter trade. I have known individuals over the years, being a horse owner and lover, that would buy horses and then fatten them up and resell them to kill buyers or to the slaughter house themselves. Many of these were horses that weren't fast enough on the track to make money, and also good riding horses, they were just worth more as meat. Go to any horse auction and you will see good horses going for slaughter just because that is who is the highest bidder. It is a heartbreaking experience.

pay off my kid's prepaid college plans, set aside even more for their college, got on a very nice vacation to Disney (and a few other spots too), oh, yeah, quit my job (sure my DH would too), buy a nice house on the water here (river's nearby), get 2 boats- pontoon and a Bass boat, a personal trainer for a few months with a full gym at home and do Nutrisystems, make a new will and set aside 15 million to each kid in trust when they turn 30 they can get their mitts on it but not before then, get an abdominoplasty after I got in shape, new car(s) would be nice too, and get back to making jewelry in my spare time since I will have it and the money to back up my ideas and finally use my BFA. I'm sure I can think of more......Been playing getting about 10 tickets the last few plays. I'd be happy with the 1st place too though and not just the jackpot, though the jackpot would be really nice and solve a lot of problems, granted it would creat new ones but I'd rather deal with those than the one's I have now!

grooming! I try to do a thorough comb-out DAILY. My former cats really loved the product, "Petromalt". It is a hairball remedy with a toothpaste-like consistency that they like to lick off a spoon or your finger, helps to "lube" their insides. My present cat doesn't like Petromalt, but LOVES the Whiskas "Temptations - Hairball-Control" cat-treats. She gets 6-8 of them as a treat every day after grooming, and it seems to do a pretty good job. Still barfs up an occasional hairball, but that doesn't happen very often... maybe twice (tiny ones) in the past 8-9 months. I feed a dry cat food formulated for Persians - "Royal Canin Persian 30" for her dry food, and lots of canned food as well to keep her hydration up. I have two water bowls for her in different parts of the house that I keep filled with clean water every day, to encourage her to drink a lot.
Before treating for acid reflux, I would address the hairball problem, because that is most likely what's making her regurgitate in the first place. The hair loss could be a symptom of something else, and it would probably be worth it to have a vet check her out, maybe do some blood tests to see if there is a thyroid problem, etc. If the cause of the hair loss can be resolved, that will also go a long way towards eliminating the hairball problem.
I used to have lots of sinus problems
until I went on a low-carb/modified Atkins diet. I did it to lose weight and ended up getting rid of all my sinus problems. I stopped eating all processed food, bread/bakery, pasta, rice, ice cream (except for Breyer ice cream because it is all natural!). I lost a lot of weight and got rid of sinus problems. Now I can tell when I have been off with my diet, because the allergies will kick up again.

Got some great deals, got the kids a lot of new clothes for about 50% off; my DH a $90 impact socket wrench set he wanted for $45; stood in line maybe 2 x for about 10 minutes and hit 4 stores. Kids had a good time, had lunch out then hit Dairy Queen and then home about 1:30pm. I just go for fun though and to get the kids clothes, not one of the crazies who camp out or get there at 4 in the morning.
