My MIL named her twin daughters Mary and Mary.
No lie. And now you have a pretty good picture of the kind of mother-in-law stories I can tell. And I do have MIL stories!

Okay, my sister and I are doing Thanksgiving this year and since my sister can't cook, that means

I'm doing the cooking.  My sister gets equal billing cause we're doing it at her house.  :)  Soooo, I'm looking for some vegetable ideas.  I am about sick of green bean casserole!  Does anyone have any really tasty recipes for vegetables side?  Any kind of vegetables.  I'm looking for something different and fabulous.

I had a corn casserole at one potluck I went to, but never got the recipe.  Anybody got a good corn recipe?

Thanks Ladies!

To Mary
I understand about liability and I am still responsible for him.....the only thing is....I want everybody to understand is that.....I DID NOT PUT HIM OUT....He is always welcome to come home, visit, etc...but he will not have access to MY HOUSE to come and go as he pleases......
Well Mary was only supposed to be 13-14 and . . .
not everybody believes it was an immaculate conception.
Mary Winkler
I agree - what a CROCK!!

After viewing the O Show, I feel like Mary W. was secretly abused just like she said, little things would give you the indication, such as feeling like she was going to get into trouble for things that got broken, or for making a mistake. She was very quiet and it seemed like she never wanted to rock the boat so to speak. I am 42 and I remember going through the same things with my scared mom and abusive alcoholic dad. It took my mom 14 years to leave my dad and that was 30 years ago, she had 4 kids and no HS education so I know it was scary for her, but she worked two jobs and I pitched in too. I sometimes thought I could have taken the gun he threatened us with and used it on him instead. I feel she needs a lot of therapy, and so will her children.
Mary Winkler

the comment about inlaws was interesting.  I know some people in Church of Christ, it is very strict on divorce so apparently Mary W. felt trapped in her marriage.  It is my understanding that if one gets divorced they have to stay single rest of their life  or until the fomer spouse is dead.  she was certainly familiar with this doctrine.

On the other hand, how would you feel if you saw your husband sort of smothering  your baby because she was crying which is what babies do?  It might make you mad enough to do something drastic about it.  Best course of action would be to pack up and leave before you shot the man.  It is hard to believe that she was in some sort of trance when she picked up the shotgun. But she probably felt trapped with no way out and the cornered rat will bite.....

The shoes and the other perversions if all of thihs is true would also make one very very angry.

I agree that she appeared to be sort of drugged,  obviously a sick woman who did something that will haunt her and her family for the rest of her and their lives.   She should be allowed visits with her children in a neutral spot, not in the inlaws home.

Mary and Byron are still together? that shocks me. nm

clarify please-u mean woman playing Mary.....sm

You do mean the person playing character of Mary in this movie got pregnant as a teen?

Welcome to the 21st Century, m'dear.........*lol* - not many couples are getting married today (although the gay community sure is trying to get married).....but the numbers are WAY down for hetero couples.........

in any event, it's just a flick/movie - what do you care about the actors/actresses who are playing the characters?

She's no woman, she IS 16 y/o. She is playing part of Mary
and she got pregnant by her 19 y/o boyfriend.
If you whistle, it makes the Virgin Mary Cry
(I've had worse things come out of my mouth.)
Mary winkler on Oprah today
Would like to have a discussion on this and other's thoughts, especially after viewing the show or before either way. Very interested to see what she has to say and where are her parents? I would so not want my children with those freaky in-laws.
Ms. Mary Mack!! My kids still play that one!
And they run up to the ice cream truck still and there is a sponge bob ice cream with gum ball eyes or something. Davy Jones! I still have a crush on him, my sis-in-law is president of his fan club, and she got to meet him at Disney once (sounds like Brady Bunch's Marcia). LOL. You are right, things have gotten stressful. But then again, I remember my dad talking about WWI and the depression and having to deliver blocks of ice to people. Though, it seems to me even there were hard times then, people seemed to still be happier than we are today. Seems like things changed after 911, at least to me. I try to keep my kids sheltered (I know that is terrible), but my 7 year old is in love with girls, my 8 year old knows all the pirate words already and all 3 of my kids including the 10 year old could probably tell me things I did not even want to know until the third year of college. My goodness! I am sounding like gasp, My Mother! LOL.
I'm sure Mary Jo Kopechne's family is not as happy as you. nm

Kerstin, not allergic to anything. We do limit sugar because it makes her very hyper to get much (give her an ice cream and watch her bounce!) She loves sports and plays soccer, flag football and basketball, art, music. It'll depend on what we decide to do how many people we invite, but more than likely there will be at least 10 kids and 30-40 adults. She doesn't have a favorite color. She LOVES to be the center of attention.
Thanks for your answers everyone! (nm)

My answers
1. What ages are your kids?
9 and 18 months

2. Do they have their own cell phone?
no, not yet...I have a cell phone so if my 9 year old ever needs it for an emergency he can use it..once he gets older I will buy him a prepaid one

3. Do they have their own TV and or computer in their room? If so, are there set hours they're allowed to use these:
He has his own TV, which is our old TV with a DVD player..the baby is too little to have a TV in her room but we have an old TV/VCR player that the TV still works but the VCP player doesn't so she will get that with a DVD player when she is older..
I am the only one with the computer in the house...we are going to give him my old computer when we move and have more room to put it in his bedroom but no internet access on it...no set hours on the TV though

4. Do they receive an allowance? If so, are they required to do chores to receive this?
He gets a 1.00 a week to bring laundry baskets upstairs and keep his room clean

It is free. Any footpedal will work. There is a function where you "acclimate" (don't know the correct word) but you get your foot pedal working with it. Also, there is a button on the software that says word, that will give you MS Word to type in but I have never used it. I use my regular MS Word.

Also, there is a settings function so you can slow down or speed up the dictation.

Hope that helps.
Thanks for all your answers...
In response to some of your thoughts, he and I will never have kids together. We both had our own kids before we got together and neither desire to have any more - and yes, she is the baby.

She does not accept me because her mother teaches her that I broke her family up (which is way off from being anywhere near the truth).

I know it is not going to change and in fact, he is so mad at me about it right now that he has now been gone for 7 hours and who knows how long before he will calm down enough to come back home.

I don't know if I can live with it anymore. I have tried talking to him at a neutral time, but he still thinks I am picking on his child and that I am just jealous and selfish because I should understand that he is just trying to make sure she knows he loves her. The sad part is, everybody sees how spoiled and manipulative she is, but him.

His friend's kids do not want to play with her, his family does not want her to spend the night with their kids, she tells me that the kids "cheer" when she is picked up from after school because she is leaving... and when you point it out to him (not in detail about nobody liking her), he just says she has had a hard life and he knows she's mean. Duhh, then take care of the problem!!!
wish I had the answers
I really wish I had all the answers to everything, don't we all? I don't know why pitbulls are the most talked about and abused breed. And yea there are alot of criminals that use the dogs to fight in order to get them some quick money, it's sad it really is, and yet the dogs suffer for it. And you know with the pitbulls it is almost like a race issue to me. It is no secret that the jail cells have more blacks than whites, so does that men all black people commit crimes then??? no it doesn't. Like I said before I always look at the bigger picture. I hate dog attacks happen I really do, I wish we knew why in every single case, but we don't and it's very sad.
Thank you all for your answers -- a few more ?s

Firstly, proving the debt is invalid in my case.  I purchased a timeshare trial -- not a full timeshare.  Apparently the laws governing these contracts are gray.  The timeshare company claims it is not a timeshare and therefore does not fall under the same cancellation rights.  I disputed this through the state's real estate commission that I purchased it through, but they were only acting as "mediators" and were not able to rule on it.  In order to have that issue resolved, it would need to go to court, which would probably end up costing me more than the contract itself.

Secondly, has anyone ever been sued by Apelles?  Some debt collection agencies don't waste their time suing, and I'm curious if this is one of them.  If they are likely to sue, we will probably end up paying the thing and then using it since it doesn't expire until this summer.  I don't want to pay for it after it expires and lose double.

Thanks again for your answers so far.  I hope you don't mind helping me a little more!

Yes, I do mean the old slides, the kind that are little square things (a bit bigger than a stamp), and you put them in a projector and look at them on the wall or one of those white screens.

My mom had 8mm movies of us growing up and she put them on VHS (before DVD was invented) and they are excellent quality. I even have my moms wedding and my aunts wedding, and moving photos of my little sister and me playing (she died when she was 18 months old and I was 2, so those are priceless). If yours came out dark I do believe whoever did it probably did a crappy job and if you could get it redone I'd look into it. Unfortunately I'm not sure who to look for that would do that. Maybe a shop that develops pictures would know of someone.

Once I get all our slides scanned I might look at doing it for others and put out some of my samples, but right now just been too busy to do that. What I also did was I scanned in some photos, printed them on material and made a quilt out of them, so if you sew or quilt you could make pillows or something with old photographs.
Thanks for all these sweet answers and get this,,,
my dear one left for work at 12:30- just called and said he was talking with his friend in California and his friend met a new girl who said she was a size 14. My hubby wanted to know if I was that size or smaller, even a 12. Lordy, lordy, now you know why I say thank you Jesus for this man. I am a size 20 pants but would love to be a 14. I just carry myself well. Ladies, there is still hope out there for everyone!!!

My son is a realtor and has experience in this sort of sell. I don't know where you are located but I'm sure he will have some good information for you. You are probably sitting on a goldmine. Where we live, the same thing is happening. Older homes on the water are being bought and torn down to build mansions - just feel lucky that you are probably going to make a mint when you do decide to sell.
I know doctors don't always have the answers

I've been in the medical field since 1971.

I was just venting a little - we were so relieved it wasn't bedbugs, and we were hopeful that we would find the real cause and be able to eliminate it. It was kind of a let-down when we didn't.

As far as we know, my husband hasn't been exposed to anything unusual at home or on the job, and his food intake has been normal - nothing unusual.

The only thing we can think of is we moved into this house late last summer, so he did mow the grass a couple of times, but of course different things grow and bloom in the spring than in late summer and fall. He does generally have the usual allergies involving itching eyes, runny nose, sinus congestion, etc., but he has never had a reaction like this. He was a Boy Scout and went camping and hiking all the time, so I know he knows what poison ivy looks like! And it doesn't look like poison ivy rash.

Maybe somebody out there has had a similar experience and can help us - let me describe his symptoms. It usually starts out as a series of small red bumps that are in a fairly straight line. For example, in the crease of his right arm, there are about six little red bumps going straight down (proximal to distal) from the crease in a space of about 1.5 to 2 cm. There is another line, about 1 cm medial to that one, running up the arm (distal to proximal), about the same distance. When he scratches them (he tries not to, but sometimes you just gotta), they appear to turn into one big linear welt.

Any ideas? TIA. And many thanks to those who have been following our "saga".

Thank you all for your good answers.

She's the same age as all the kids in her class. She started kindergarten at the right time (she wasn't one of the young ones). She's not into sports very much, but she does have a few extra cirricular activities. I think she's just disappointed because she never had these problems before. I wish she wouldn't be too hard on herself.
Thanks to everyone for their riveting answers.

1. What ages are your kids?

15 and 7 (girls)

2. Do they have their own cell phone?

15-year-old does, 7-year-old no.

3. Do they have their own TV and or computer in their room? If so, are there set hours they're allowed to use these:

Neither one has a TV in their room. They share a computer that is located in a place where we can monitor them. They ask permission before getting on and are usually allowed to be on for no longer than hour. Homework has to be finished first though.

4. Do they receive an allowance? If so, are they required to do chores to receive this?

Yes both receive monthly allowances. Yes, they have chores they must do to earn their allowance.
Oldest daughter (15) gets $100 a month, 10% goes to church and 10% goes to savings. The rest is hers to budget for lunch, entertainment, and clothes.

Youngest daughter (7) gets $10. Same deal as the older one -- 10% goes to church and 10% goes into savings. What is left is hers to spend (usually a Webkinz or will save up for a new Nintendo DS game).
