My kids are 15, 17 and 20 and I have made them write thank you notes since they were able to hold a pencil in their little fingers.  I hope they keep up with it when they're on their own.  I have 2 nieces and 2 nephews on my husband's side of the family and 3 of them have graduated from high school.  The first two never said a word about their graduation gifts or any gifts ever, for that matter.  The nephew who graduated this year was much more gracious.  I just don't know what happened to good manners.
