College fund? Yeah ah, what's that?

pay their own way.  College for my kids is the least of my worries.  I am just trying to keep food on the table and the bills paid that keep going up and up.

No, I don't believe golden parachutes are a must for these companies, but I would have to question their bookkeeping skills for sure.

The hospital I came from that outsourced my job overseas just laid off 30 people last week.  It's everywhere.

Job hunting?  Well let's just say if you can find one that pays more, then go for it, but there's always that learning curve.

Thank God I work from home and find no need to purchase new attire for the season.  We haven't had a true, true vacation in years, and yes we also live in a lower income neighborhood.  Our salary is $80,000.00 a year combined, and we still live paycheck to paycheck basically with 2 kids to clothe and feed.

Christmas?  I'll think about that after I've recouped the money of purchasing a calculator for $125.00 for my 8th grade (a must according to the teacher).  So, not all is me, me, me, now, now, now...

Am I blessed?  Yes, I am.  We both have jobs and an income and healthcare.  Vacation and college?????  Privileges as far as I'm concerned, not necessities.  If my kid wants a college education, he'd better get a job and go part-time!  He'll have a place to live (right here).

School fund raisers
First it was Girl Scout cookies which we went around the neighborhood and asked other friends and family to buy from us, then it was Jump Rope for Heart.  Now, yesterday my YDD's daycare wants us to sell cookie dough.  I am afraid our friends and neighbors are going to hate to see me come.  Is this all in my head?  How do other moms do it?
Daycare fund raiser
are you serious? Daycare rates are outrageous (not saying it's not well worth it -- I sure wouldn't want to care for someone else's children all day for the money the worker's tend to make . . . jes sayin). I cannot believe they are actually fund raising in the daycare centers these days. I'm hoping it's for a very worthwhile cause, and not for funds needed by the daycare center.
3 weddings in 3 months...
Same family; 1 in July, then 2 weeks later, then a month later....would wearing the same dress to each wedding be```tacky```?  All 3 evening weddings...so would be appropriate for each. Whatcha think?
Well where I come from they are for funerals and not weddings.

Speaking of weddings, tell me if I'm just being petty. SM

My father who is 68 years old and is getting married.  I'm not all fond of the woman he is marrying, but it's his life and I'm not a kid anymore, so whatever.  Thing is his woman is planning this obnoxiously big wedding complete with formal wedding gown and all -- 200+ guests with a fancy reception with dinner and dancing for everyone.  Then she wants a honeymoon to Paris which she is planning.  And I haven't even mentioned the engagement ring, let me just say $10,000!

So obviously I think this woman is over the top and a golddigger and a few other choice words I can't post on MTStars.  Don't you think an older couple each in their second marriage should have a smaller, family and close-friends only kind of a wedding?  Personally, I think if she wants such an extravagant honeymoon, she cut costs in the actually wedding and reception.

I've been holding my tongue, but I really want to say something to my dad.  Should I?  Ever since he starting dating this woman, I've been polite and friendly, kept my mouth shut.  Now that he has decided to marry her, I'm like WOA!  Am I just being territorial?

4 weddings, don't you learn by your mistakes. 1 is more than enough.

Or netting in school colors like they do for weddings? nm

What TV commercial drives you

With me, it's the one for NutriSystem! I'm so sick of hearing about that "smoking hot body" and the "trophy wife!"
Every time it comes on, I want to

Anyone else want to share?

Accepted - but my MIL drives
So I keep my distance. She's a martyr at times and very gossipy so you have to watch what you say around her. SIL takes advantage of her all the time. I try to remain cordial and let DH worry and deal with her.
This drives me crazy too.
Unless you put your purse in your trunk before you leave your house, what's the point? It's obvious what you are doing and that you don't plan to be back for a while when you do it in the parkinglot of a hospital, mall, etc. I think it would be just as easy to pick a lock on a trunk as anything else, not to mention for someone to approximate and come back in 7 or 8 hours and wait for you to come back and get you then.

I hope this lady is okay. It's such a terrible thing. They need to get whoever did this off the streets.
Mine is exactly the same way, drives me nuts- sm
He does not understand why I can't keep a picture perfect house. He was raised by a neat freak so he thinks I should keep the house like his mom, immaculate. Not. We are not living in squalor by any means, but it can get messy quick with 2 kids and 2 dogs. Apparently no one but me knows to take dirty dishes to the sink, etc. Granted the house does need an overall/good cleaning/organizing, but help in not making it any worse would be appreciated. The kids help some and are slowly getting better, but there is still a lot I have to do myself and just don't have the time to do. Seriously thinking of hiring a housekeeper/cleaning service for either twice monthly or weekly cleaning. I still need to declutter but that would make my life a lot easier. Maybe you could do the same and hire someone to clean twice a month. I just wish I could take off for 2 weeks and get done around here what needs doing. I will probably take a week off of one job after school starts up again which will leave my days basically clear so maybe, just maybe I can get a few things done around here that need doing!
2 teenage drives - both boys, sm
One is in college and has not had any type of ticket. Did hit someone already, and he had to pay half of her repairs. We paid the other half because we wanted him to save for college. The second has just gotten his permit. If either of them get a ticket, they will have to pay for it, and go to driver's school. Would probably take away driving priviledges for a while on the youngest. definitely would not ignore any offenses!
As one who drives a larger vehicle (sm)

it cracks me up to hear people with large cars complain.  Since I bought my Mountaineer (2007), the price for a tank of gas has gone up about $10.  I fill up every other week, so that's $20 a month.  Unless your car payment is right to the limit of what you should be spending, that increase in fuel cost should not be putting you over the edge.  Now I understand that for those on very limited budgets who need to save every penny this can be a real problem - these are not the ones I'm referring to.

Case in point, I have a friend who bought a much larger, more expensive vehicle than they needed or could afford, and now they can't afford to sell it either because they owe so much more than it's worth.  She complains about the price of gas all the time.  I keep telling her that if she can really AFFORD to drive a Cadillac Escalade then it shouldn't matter to her how much gas is.  Needless to say, that just pisses her off.

To answer the original question, our travel plans will not change bsaed on the price of gas.  We look forward to going to the beach every year, and can make the trip there and back and do all the running around while we're there on three to four tanks of gas.

Rachel Ray also drives me nuts with her voice.
I like the woman who does Barefoot Contessa, calm and relaxed with a soothing way about her.
I believe Jamie McMurray drives for them now and has for a while but.. my hubby would know.
I'll ask him when he gets home..
My DH drives a Chevy Malibu Maxx...
I have a 2005 Buick LeSabre and we also have an older Ford Explorer that DH kept to use for hauling "stuff".....

I've never had anything but an American made car........... LOL, I'm not exactly a car salesperson's dream customer........ I keep my cars forever......

1972 Plymouth Duster
1984 Buick Skyhawk
1996 Buick Century
2005 Buick Skyhawk..........

only 4 cars in over 30 years......

...sinks later on down the road after it drives and the grooves reappear. nm

Similar situation, my hubby drives 1 hr 45 mins to work from house and sm
he suggested 2 nights a week staying at a hotel that his company would pay for if the company apartment was full. I say company apartment "lightly" as it is a room above the office and just has bed, AC window unit. At first I was hesitant but then I drove it one way in the morning and again in 5 o'clock traffic and said you must be nuts! He gets up at 4:30 am to be at work by 6:30.
How long have you noticed your hard drives lasts when you are on the computer 24/7. My computer is
doing odd things and it looked like the hard drive is getting bad.  It is about 2-1/2 years old.  Actually the whole computer is about 2-1/2 years old.
