It brought tears to my eyes just thinking about that poor dog. My family and I are going away in a few days only for a night, but our dogs have been booked into the dog hotel at PetSmart; that's why we're only doing it for one night as we can't imagine leaving them there too long (although, will have to in a couple of years when we go to Disney World for a week). Our neighbor lets their dog run all over the neighborhood and think that is sad. Some people just don't get it...
