Update - has agreed to send him back to school

Posted By: 500 miles away on 2007-10-30
In Reply to: Need advice - ex has pulled my kid out of school re MRSA scare - 500 miles away

Thanks everyone for all your advice.  I prayed about it (and prayed that I would say the right things and not the wrong ones) and then I called my ex, who after discussing it for a couple hours, agreed to send him back to school with a note that he was not to go in the locker room unless the school has sanitzed it recently.  He also agreed to take the child to his doctor for a checkup and to make sure his immunizations are current, and to see if the doctor had any input regarding anything else that should be done.  Hopefully he will do as promised.

Don't just send a note to the school...
Call the principal. We had something like this happen last year at one of the schools here where I live. It is a serious thing, because some of these kids actually try to carry through.
I would not send son back.
//
Our school send notices home when they - sm
are doing eye tests, hearing tests, etc. Permission is not needed. Obviously they expect the parent here to advise them of any issues in advance.
I would send it back - word does have it
In MS Word this is how I get my line count to submit on my invoice....
At the top screen click on tools, then click on Word count. I use the line that is characters (with spaces) and divide by 65. Have used this method for 5 years and have never had a problem.
Well, I had to send my twin 3-year-olds to a school.
They are there all day long and I work all day. Paying for the daycare and making more money is about equal to when I worked at home with them in my way, only I am more sane for it and they are learning great social skills. I would really consider changing your hours and putting them in school/daycare/learning center, even if just for a few hours a day. It does help.

Like I said, I feel for you. I have twin 3-year-olds, and I swear they seem worse than when they were 2! LOL!
And Canada would send him back. Can't do that anymore!

Update on my public school situation....sm

Last week I posted frustrations with the public school not wanting to do anything about my 1st grader being behind until she is at least 6 months behind, even though right now she is "very behind" her peers due to multiple reasons, including her kindergarten teacher being out a lot of last year.

My husband & I have decided to move her to a private school, the one she went to pre-K at and where there will be a total of 6 kids in her class when she moves there at the beginning of the year.  The assistant principal and teacher for her grade will be working with her during the regular school day to catch up where she's behind.  Our daughter is very happy that she's switching schools and that  3 of the kids in her class there are kids she went to pre-K with.

We're planning to put our house on the market in the spring (long-term plan) and if we're able to move before the summer is over to an area where the public schools will service her better and we like the area we'll move; otherwise she'll stay at the private school until we try to move in a couple of years after our oldest daughter graduates from high school in 2008.

Thank you everyone for the feedback - it helped us in the decision making process.  We're very comfortable with  our decision and at a meeting with our daughter's psychologist and her caseworker yesterday they both felt this was the best thing we could do for her both short-term and after our adoption is finalized for her hopefully in  January.

Am I too old to go back to school? I'm 40 (sm)
Have wanted to go back for a few years but husband says I am too old.
re: too old to go back to school
Um, the bottom line is, no, you're not. Lots of people go back to school that are WAY beyond their 40's. I seem to have turned into a "lifelong" student (I'm 44)...I'm always fitting in a class here and there. One of these days I'll get my degree! I would advise you to take a night or weekend class, as you'll have more working adults there then the typical 19 yr. olds. Good luck!
Back to school

How is everyone doing with back to school?  I'm guessing that's why the board has slowed a bit.

An update to the school lunch thing that I posted last week.  Hubs and I decided to give our 10yo the benefit of the doubt and see what happened without imposing guidelines.  Wasn't all bad but definitely needed clarification on what's expected.  Lunch is his favorite part of school - I wonder why with ice cream, french fries, soda, and pizza to choose from!    I called the school and they are starting the program where we can go online at home and see what he chooses, updated every day; it is just not running yet.  So to the one who suggested that I ask about that, Thank you!    I wonder how many other schools have this and the parent's don't know.

I'm going back to school!!!!
Sorry ya'll I am just so excited! I've really been wanting to go back and finish my psychology degree and now I can! We're gonna have to sacrifice some things (bye bye cable TV and cell phone extras) but if I don't go now when will I??

I just hope that this economic mess doesn't mess up my Stafford loan.... :/

back to school
I worked in application software for 18 years (degree in computer).  They started outsourcing programming jobs to India about 10 years ago.  I quit because of the politics that are constantly going on in corporate America.  Businesses make stupid decisions based on who they know and like instead of what's best for everyone.  At least with MT, I can stay away from the politics.
back to school
I loved what I did.  I just couldn't take the politics and corporate greed on a day-to-day basis anymore.  I'm not the type of person who can sit back and watch this without saying something.  Then, you are typed as being negative because you don't agree with management decisions.  But, then there are politics every where you go today.
re: kiddos back in school
Yeppers! My kiddos were back in school on August 15th! I have two boys, one a senior and the other a sophomore. Almost empty nester....we won't push that too fast though...lolol

Oh and I'm in southern Utah!

I'm so glad they let her back in school!

Your poor daughter!  I hope they don't change the rules on pepper spray.  I think students should have a right to carry that to protect themselves!  I don't see it as a weapon.  It's not like a gun or a knife that could kill someone - it's just for self-defense, which teenage girls need, unfortunately.  Good job fighting for your daughter and sticking up for her!

As far as the people who made the rude, ignorant comments to you, I don't think people like that even read entire posts, and if they do they don't comprehend them!  It seems like some people just pick one thing out of a post and try to say you're wrong when it's obvious they don't even know what they're talking about.  So annoying!  Whoever said the rude things is probably someone who is lonely and ran out of real-life people to pick on (who would put up with them for long?), so they must try to irritate people online, so try not to let them bother you too much (even though it would probably bother me too if it was my post!)

I am 40 also and thinking about going back to school. sm
My only problem is I have a son in college now and a daughter a Sophomore in high school. Don't know that we can afford for me to go to school at this time. In my case, I believe the children's education must come first so they have a brighter future.

Still pondering the idea!
Your kiddos back to school yet & what state are you in? nm
s
I will be 40 in August and am back in school after 20 years -
I will be graduating with my associates degree in accounting in December. May go on for my 4 year, but may just do an associates in business management also. I am like you - ready to ditch the MT world.
I agree, I would send just send a card....
maybe a mass card if they are Catholic.
Call the school. I had a threat like this in my high school and they cancelled school that day.
Thankfully, because the person making the threats was found with material for home made pipe bombs and quit a bit of ammunition and a shotgun. He was arrested and charged. Never allowed back in the school.

I think it would be safer to call the school and get classes cancelled for a day to investigate versus make a scene in the parking lot, especially if the student with the knife is inside with the knife.

Good luck. If nothing happens, pull your child out of school for a week. See what happens. I know that sounds horrible, but small towns is where this happens most often.
Agreed!
Dump the ape! I liked the lizard better too.
Agreed, ER MT!
If not her, then maybe that Haley girl.

I think it might come down to Chris (Sligh), LaKisha, and Melinda.

For some reason, I really like Gina...but I don't think she'll last too long.
Agreed!

But that was something you agreed to (sm)
and then of course regretted - I'm sorry to hear that. During the divorce, though, did he try to get custody of them initially? And you still don't regret it even after what you went through - you still think it was the right decision? Because I am so struggling with this.
Agreed!
:)
Agreed - he only gets it once a day or
every other day and eats regular dry food, but he is a nibbler and a spoonful of AD gives him a calorie boost.
Agreed and..
One of my children is an attorney!!
Still think society needs to get control of all of this unfounded litigation and so does this daughter. she would never take this case!
Oh so agreed!!! nm
xx
Agreed Hayseed!
I think is about manners. These things happen, sometimes kids cannot get to the bathroom in time, but they can say excuse me. Still not sure they should be punished if it cannot be helped.
Agreed, Patti.
My first hubby was a good friend but we never should have gotten married. We did produce a wonderful son so we were determined not to be acrimonious for his sake. After the divorce, we were better as friends, and my second husband and I are friends with him and his second wife and hang out occasionally. As a matter of fact, they stood up for us at our wedding. My son wins. There's no reason to be enemies that I can see!
He has agreed the kids should go with me (sm)
He wants to see them of course but he knows they want to live with me. So at least he is being reasonable about that part.
Agreed, very disappointing.
I think Marie should have gone, too distracting now with everybody wondering if she will make it through each dance now.  The judges' scores should be given much more weight, as they are the experts.
agreed. He's probably the one that got her started
on whatever crap she's been taking. He seems like an enabler, taping her while she was enbriated (huh???...I love the Soup)
As of 1 minute ago, here's what they agreed on
If you make at least 3000 but don't pay taxes, you'll get 300. If you pay taxes, you'll get 600. Plus, you get an additional 300 per child. Each couple that pays taxes will, therefore, get 1200, plus 300 per kid, as long as they make under 150,000.

Yahoo news had the wrong numbers posted this morning, but everything has been decided on now and above is the info.
agreed except for one thing
I hope the guilty are sitting at home realizing they should take responsibility for their actions and not worry about the video and I also hope that they have enough conscience to actually feel guillty and to realize just how immoral their actions are. unfortunately, it appears people just do not have a heart anymore.
Sounds like my kids...on a school day "we just got home from school!" on a vacation day....sm
But this is our vacation! My husband takes vacation days and leaves town without us...lol! He would never dream of taking a day off to work around the house!
I agreed with you until I started thinking about it....
When my daughter has her immunizations, I didn't sit her down and explain to her what each one was for. We do not have to explain to her that she can now have sex with multiple partners and be protected. We can simply say it is suppose to protect her from a certain type of cancer. What makes me MORE nervous is what will the side effects be ten years from now......I'm going to wait and see what my doctor recommends. I don't live in Texas...Just a thought.
AGREED - the poster has done NO RESEARCH!

Agreed. This world is going to h*ll in a handbasket.
Toddlers wearing bras...I'm sorry, that's just obscene.  Are their parents buying them thongs too?  Who are these people and why are they breeding?!
I'm so happy. When I told DH, he agreed with you too. Really
xx
OMG! YES, YES YES!!! AGREED!! LOVE MY TOOL!

I did until my family finally agreed to get off the
That got rid of the guilt, and made my lack of money seem like less of an issue. Gave up XMas cards, too, except for a few notes to a few special friends & family that I never get to otherwise see or communicate with. Although I'm glad when I don't have to be bombarded with all that worn-out music every time I go to the grocery store, other than that I don't have to hold my breath until the holidays are over. Still, I think the best day is Jan. 2nd, when life finally gets back to some semblance of normal. Until then, I just enjoy the weather, and even though I can't afford to heat it very often, & sometimes the cupboards are bare for a few days until payday, I still consider myself luckier than some others because at least I have a roof over my head, good friends (even if they live a long way away), my health (so far), a PC, and a working TV set. And I try to hold some hope that either the MT business will turn around someday or else there's a more decent job waiting out there somewhere that I just havent found yet.
Agreed--harnesses are much easier & safer :)

When we lived in the city, we let both of our cats out on leashes but they wore harnesses, mainly so they couldn't slip loose.  They did start out as kittens with them though, not as adult cats.  They would hear me jingle their leashes and harnesses and come RUNNING to be tied outside to the little backyard there.  They absolutely loved it and the worst that would happen is they would get tangled to each other and around a bush.  I was always around to supervise though...usually enjoying morning coffee out on the back deck listening to the thumping cars and sirened-vehicles drive by.  Man do I miss the city--NOT!

Good luck with your kitty!  I'm sure you'll be fine!

Agreed---very sweet smoochable face!
At least SOMEONE is having fun in all this junk!
I did not receive any child support, so we agreed to
split all bills evenly as we have joint custody. That is what our papers say, that we split all major expenses, i.e., clothes, school supplies, education fees, etc.
How is the school's fault if Johnny comes to school armed?
And how is the school's fault if off campus people are getting jumped? Everybody wants to blame the schools, but the reason places have gone "zero tolerance" is because every parent whose kid gets popped for an illegal weapon says, "Oh, my little pookie wouldn't do that." Which is exactly what the parents of every perpetrator of school violence has said. At 15, this girl should have been aware that it was verboten and, if they felt that strongly it was necessary, kept it hidden. If she is not capable of thinking that part through, maybe she shouldn't be trusted with pepper spray anyway.
How is this kid in school with chronic infestation? School nurse

No dead beat if no CS agreed on but not paying court

"selfish jerk", as you call him, AGREED to help, DESPITE his plans.

Agreed to let hubby have all the refund on the income tax and drat!
See, it is like this. I told hubby to take his check book today because it costs quite a bit to get our taxes filed at H&R and I basically did not care about paying for it this time (between paydays really). I said if you will pay the charges to file, then they will have your check and anything we get back you can have and if we have to pay a really big amount, I will go and take that out of a bigger account in my name and I will pay, so it will be win, win situation for you. Drat! Can I take that back now? He has paid most all the income tax this year, as an independent I did not pay my fair share but yet, now he is getting close to 5,000. Can I renegiogate? Anyone else do this sort of crazy thing and then wish they could take it back?  Darn, drat, dagnab it!!!!
Then they can get right back on their tires and rafts and float on back to Cuba! nm
