We got a FREE gas dryer off Craigslist (sm)

Posted By: CAMT on 2007-05-03
In Reply to: Craigslist? - Bargain hunter

My husband looks at it regularly. These people were giving away a working gas dryer, all he had to do was meet them to pick it up. That was a year ago and we're still using it! I have a friend who got a free doghouse off Craigslist. You really can get great deals.

Craigslist?
Anyone ever go to Craigslist to buy items locally? I just checked it out today, and there seems to be a lot of good deals. You just need to drive to their home and pick it up. They have huge pools for super great deals, like one was for a 24' pool with accessories for $650, and it showed the picture. Very interesting site...
Put it on Craigslist...sm
...as a parts car.  Make sure you take pictures, inside and out, and be very specific that the car is not running and they'll need a wrecker to move it.  Someone may need the transmission or interior or have an engine that needs a car.  $1000 is not unreasonable for a 2003 that is in otherwise good shape.
Check out Craigslist!...sm
We bought our Kenmore super capacity washer for $175 from a couple that didn't need it anymore because of grandkids moving out. Ours was getting ready to break and needed one. We love this machine, as it's huge! Check them out for great deals! People are always selling their washer and dryers on there. You can compare the prices at other stores. You won't be spending anywhere near $700!
Seems weird he would go to craigslist
for help.
You could check Craigslist
I suppose. You'd choose your local area. You could even make a post that you are interested in buying AG products. You'd be able to set up a special private e-mail address rather than giving somebody your actual e-mail, yet it still comes to your e-mail box. I don't get how it works, but it wasn't hard to use.
I've looked for jobs on CraigsList!
Nice site. My sister lives there, LOL.

I have bought and sold on Craigslist, it's great.

You're free to pray, but not free to discriminate
It's as simple as that.
On the main Craigslist page, look at the upper left-hand - sm
side of the page under the word "Craigslist". It should say "Post to Classifieds". Click on that, and it will take you to a "Create Posting" page. Click on the type of posting you want, and it'll take you to a category list. Click on your choice, and the next page asks you to pick your city. After that, you're asked which local area(s) fit best. You will finall be at the space where you fill in the ad itself.

Hope that helped! I've given away furniture & an old PC on Craigslist...I LOVE Craigslist!
I don't even own a dryer...sm
and have not had one for about five years since it broke.  I hang my clothes outside in the summer and in the basement in front of a wood stove in the winter.  Surprisingly, I don't miss my dryer at all.  Tacky?  It doesn't bother me!  And my clothes last forever (maybe too long).  LOL.
Blow dryer
My daughter had lice once and with really thick hair it took me a long-time to get rid of it, until a doctor gave me a RX that we had to let set for 1 hour, then take the blow dryer outside and dry hair for an hour or longer.  the heat from the blow dryer and the medicine finally killed them all within 2 days.
Use a blow dryer
I put the hair dryer on cool and "dust" the artificial flower arrangements with it. Takes just a few seconds and if you do it every week or so, you never have to wash them.

Otherwise, I would dip them in a sink of Woolite or similar cold water wash. Some people put them in a sack filled with salt and shake it, because the salt is abrasive enough to get rid of the dirt but not hurt the arrangement.
Dryer balls
They really work. I just use a very minimal amount of fabric softener to kill the suds in the rinse cycle.

No offense, but the dryer sheet story kind of sounds like an urban myth.
Maybe dryer sheets between the
pages? That's a lot of dryer sheets.

When I was recently car shopping, looking at used cars, there was only one I sat in and instantly got out of due to that smell. They should Febreze a car before they show it to prospective buyers.
Hair Dryer
I have never tried this myself, but I have read that if you use a hair dryer on a low setting, about 6 to 8 inches from the ear, for about 10 to 15 minutes, it may make the earache better.

Hope this helps and your little one is feeling better soon!
Wow, my dryer is about 20 years old I think- sm
came with house (1998), house built in 1988, would have to go digging through the receipts they left us but it is at least 12 or more years old I am sure. Extra large capacity Whirlpool washer and dryer, love them but I am sure expensive to run. Our electric was $80 when we first moved here and I hung the clothes out all the time in the summer and that was with the AC too. But that was before 2 kids and 5-6 loads a week too. If I could shave $50 a month off I'd be very happy, going to try to. I run the dryer way too much though, dry the clothes forget to get them out, run it for 15 mins to get all the wrinkles out, etc. Sometimes do that 2 or 3 times as I tend to forget about them in the dryer, even with the buzzer.
My dryer is around 15 years old.

It won't let me forget the clothes. It buzzes, then runs a couple seconds, then buzzes again. It keeps it up until I finally take the clothes out. Can get aggravating when I'm up to my elbows in something else.

I forget about the washer though.

bounce dryer sheets?
But, I don't know what it does to the paint...maybe someone else will chime in or maybe Google will have the answer :o)
Clothesline versus dryer -- sm

Do you really save that much on the electric bill by hanging out your clothes?

DH doesn't think so, but I'm inclined to disagree with him.  If you do save on your electric bill, how much?

No washer/dryer at my apt. building, and laundromat
it's far away & I'd have to burn valuable gasoline to drive there. Thank goodness I work at home and can wear clothing for several days before washing. I wash them in the bathtub and hang them on the fence to dry.
I have an older dryer (10 yrs) and dry about 4 loads a week sm
(small family). Last summer I began drying 3 out of 4 on the line. My electric bill dropped by half, from about $75 or 80 per month to around 40. (Small house, small utilities.)

I'll take outside clothes line any day over dryer

I've been beggin hubby to put a clothes line in since the 80s. The natural air drying  smell is nothing to be compared with an inside dryer. Alas, he doesn't see my point. He thinks I don't have time to hang clothes out....but I did in the 70s and now there's only 2 of us. Once and done, not 3 loads in the dryer.

Downey fabric softener should help with the stiffness? I wouldn't know since I have to use a dryer, and even DH likes rough towels, not soft,  so why does he complain about outside lines? Don't ask me ....oh, wiat! Could it be because I pay the utilities? LOL

When you said when you are BOTH free
tells it all. You have gotta be kidding! If this person is married or just in some type of relationship, he is a read jerk for taking up with another and you are just as foolish to carry on with something that happened years ago. We have all been through first loves but I grew up and was contacted by my first love (15 and contacted at 31) with his trying to get me to go out with him, he had a wife, and I would not even consider. It was a nice thought that he still would want to see me but I had very much moved on. You need a reality check.
Oh, sorry. It is free, but I know (sm)
registering for sites is a pain.

This one is free.

Wow, is it really for FREE?...nm

How about free AVS?
That is the only antivirus I have on my personal computer. Does anyone know if that would that protect me?
No free visit.
It was $75 to adopt her because they can't find a spay scar. I got a $10 certificate towards a rabies vaccination and $40 toward a spay.

I finally got her to eat some catfood, I know not the best thing in the world for her but I just wanted her to eat anything at this point.

I think she might be puking too from all the hair she's chewing off herself. I don't know how she's doing that. The bottom front teeth are broken down to the gum line and her top teeth are broken at different levels and she's missing one completely.

Hopefully whatever is going on is easily treatable.
Sugar free
My husband is diabetic and my oldest son is hyperactive. We use splenda. For Kool-aid we just buy the old fasioned with no sugar and add the splenda. I actually use is everyday. It works in everything except for brownies and fudge and things like that.

We are actually making pecan pie, pumpkin pie, choco-cake and even cranberry sauce for thanksgiving with it. Give it a try we did and it is the only "sugar" in our house now.

Good Luck
try going sugar free if you can - sm

no sugar made me feel 20 years younger.  sounds strange but it is true.

if you are presently on sugar, it will be hard for a few days, but really worth it.  i personally cannot do a gradual weaning off sugar but need to go cold turkey.  same with white foods - white bread, white flour, white crackers, white whatever.  i eat protein, protein, protein when getting off sugar.  fish, skinless boneless chicken, every 1/2 hour if you are hungry. after a day or two, you will not want sugar or white foods.  you will be satisfied with lean protein - the less beef the better - and vegetables.  and no milk or milk products.  sounds strange, i know, but i would be willing to bet my next paycheck that you would feel 150% better.  eat like that for awhile and then start adding back in the foods you cut out.  one at a time.  gradually.  maybe one food every 2 weeks.  and notice how you feel.  your body will tell you what it does not like.  yogurt was the first food i added back in and right away my nose started running, clear drainage, knew that i could not handle yogurt.

that is just what i have done and what works for me.  not medical advice at all.  just my experience.

Do you work for free? What vet is going to work for free?

Uh...this is still a free country and one can--sm
participate if they choose to, negatively or otherwise. I see plenty of other discussions where people have differing opinions about different things, negative, not liking, etc., and no one says any thing to those people...well, sometimes they do, but I thought this was a forum for everybody to participate, negatively or not, not just for those who happen to agree with what is being posted. There were plenty of people complaining about the Anna Nicole Smith threads too, and they participated, but no one told them they were angry or ill.
yep it is a free country and

that is why i can post that i thought * nn * sounded angry, deeply angry.

and it is MY OPINION that you sound very young.  maybe in 10 or 20 years, you will get the gist of what is going on here.

give it a rest.  i know i am.

Free Concerts
The NYS Fair has a lot of free concerts every year. A lot of older acts or acts that used to be big in the 80's. It's actuall a lot of fun. Example - Billy Ray Cyrus last year and Rick Springfield the year before.

Wow..wish we had a nit free policy. sm
I agree she DOES NOT need to be in school. This family has been educated on lice and the health department came to help them clean last year. They are just LAZY. I do not need to embrace the family and help them clean up the lice like the above poster mentioned. I am with you...nit free policy and no school if they have them!
gluten-free
This would be a great idea for my daughter, who NEEDS a gluten-free diet but is young, very busy, and has a hard time finding/fixing gluten-free foods. . Not sure if there would be a huge market for it, but it would sure be great for her.
my shipping is free - you must have
found a different web site - it varies a bit with suppliers.  mine is healthysuccessonline.  If mac and cheese is not palatable (NS - was totally disgusting - I had to spit it out! breakfast is powdered eggs -gag!) and you have to throw things out, it isn't very cheap.
Suggestions for free fax
I need to have a fax number for about a week.  Any suggestions?  I started to sign up with e-fax for the free 30 day trial but they want credit card information, etc. and I don't want to be charged automatically.  I think my computer has fax capability but I don't have to time t start learning how to use it.  Thx
yep - and his victims are free to sue!!!

Tax Free Holiday
I'm posting this here and in the WAHM forums, this link shows which states are having sales tax exempt shopping, when they are having it and what items are exempt. Everyone (Especially MTs) could use to save a few bucks.

http://singleparents.about.com/od/taxfreeholidays/2007_Sales_Tax_Free_Holidays.htm

I know the link says 2007 in it, but its for 2008 (as in my case NC is this weekend).
Tax free shopping
Thanks for the information. I haven't checked yet to see if NY is included, but I know we do have them every year. We usually go, we have what I think is a higher tax than most states. I know the poster below equated it to shopping the day after Thanksgiving, but I love it. I find it challenging and for me it's the start of Christmas shopping for the family.
anyone want a free Tb racehorse
They would be suitable prospects for pleasure riding and/or eventing.  My daughter in KY knows of 3 horses that the owner will give away to a good home, 4 yo gelding, 4 yo filly and 8 yo gelding.  E/m me for more information. Thanks!

No, never had free childcare
I did not live in the same town as my family and had to pay and it was hard because when inhouse if child sick then you have to find someone outside there. When the youngest child got in school only went half day, so back to a babysitter again for half day after school. My son about 8 years older so had latch key kids because my job was in a hospital, not sitting at home. I thought about what would happen if my husband died because I work part time now and I thought to stay where I am would probably want to take in some renters. I have a big home with 4 bedrooms (1 is my workroom). My daughter has her own house and she does the same, right now by her doing this is paying over 1/2 her expenses each month. I have always had the "what if" so I try to at least think of a plan just in case. I made extremely good money in the past and it is hard for me to understand why women sit around waiting for work or not making enough to exist on. I know women make less but in that case I just work more to provide. I do not need a "halo" or even a St. Amy for taking responsibility for the people I brought into this world, no one else. I had no more children than I could afford. More people should think about this before having kids unafforable. Have a friend similar situation husband dying. This friend not old enough to get either social security but in 50s and had to go back to a penny-ante job after not working at one for about 40 something years. Talk about pitiful. I have always believed women should work just like men and have something to fall back on if the need arises.
free museum day
We went to free museum day and saw the red hat ladies having tea.
fat free diet
I would give them some skin and some fat or their coats will dry out. I trim the meat and give my dog what I will not eat. That is still better than dog food!
