Wear Halloween masks? sm

Posted By: m on 2009-02-27
In Reply to: School fund raisers - MT mom

Just kiddin'!

Although my boys are older now and seem to "forget" to bring home school fundraising materials, I do remember those days. There were school fund raisers, band fundraisers and Boy Scout Popcorn to sell. I felt like I needed to wear a Halloween mask sometimes, but what I did was to carefully choose which fundraisers my boys would participate in. We knew that Boy Scout popcorn is sold in October/November, so we would not participate in school/band/other fundraisers during that time. Maybe in the spring of the year we would participate. You might just try giving a donation in place of actually selling if your budget permits. For example, if a child is expected to sell $100 dollars in cookie dough of which the school (or whatever) would retain 1/3, then just donate $33 to the school (or whatever).

He doesn't like the masks...
my DD has taken over the mask and my kids like to sleep with fans now too. I just turn them off before I go to bed.
well...I am not much for Halloween but...

I am not one for Halloween, never was really into it but...

My son is going as a CIA agent and my daughter is going as a princess (their choice).

Halloween

With October fast approaching I thought I would ask about Halloween costume ideas.  What have your kids been in the past?  Do you make their costumes or buy them?

We try to make ours but sometimes the characters are easier to buy.  Off hand I can think of my favorites...a magician, an alien, a ghost, macaroni and cheese, pop tart.

what are your kids being for halloween?
My kids are too old to go trick-or-treating now, but I'd love to know what your child/children are dressing up as this year.  I always loved the creative home-made costumes even though I always seemd to go out and buy them!
Halloween Costumes
My three year old is going as a Unicorn and my 12 year old isn't trick or treating this year, but she's going to take her sister around and share her candy.
where is the halloween spirit???
The person that I rent my house from made me take down my Halloween decorations... to me that's sad!!! all they were was just a pumpkin door cover, funky caution tape on the porch posts, and 3 tiny inflatable pumpkins on string.  She said the caution tape made people think it was a crime scene, which is resonable if people were that gullible..... baahalloweenbug! To me it is just a holiday that makes kids happy and that is good enough for me.... HAPPY HALLOWEEN MTs!!!
Talking about Halloween, get this
I was listening to a report yesterday about a school that cannot have Halloween theme nor OMG any Christmas theme and now unable to serve anything pork or pork related on the school menu because it might offend others. This is our country but I thought to myself it is becoming others, not ours anymore. This might sound strange but honest to God I thought this, oh well I am up in age and will not be around for years and years to come so I will not have to hear this for as long as I have been on this earth now. If Americans do not stand up, we are slowly losing our country little by little to others. I do not mind immigration but when I see our beliefs, our holidays, our American way falling by the wayside, it makes me sad. We are being put on the backburner because others might be offended? What gives?
Happy Halloween
I am dressed up as a skeleton, but sadly alot of pitbulls out there are skin & bones w/o dressing up abused by their owners, neglected. We pray for all of the pitbull breed. We also pray that people will come to love & understand this wonderful breed of dogs. For those who hate us out of their own ignorance and lack of understanding, we pray for you.
Happy Halloween
Here is our baby girl (CJs mom)... since the costume had wings she tried it out to see if she could fly LOL
What the women wear or don't wear is not the
issue here. They can wear what they want. The issue is what is actually going on in the compound and the laws that are being broken.
Goodwill Stores & Halloween - sm

Wow.... I just got back from a trip to the local Goodwill Store, and boy, am I ever ready for Halloween!  Beginning in October they bring out all their costumes, and costume-worthy, bizarre clothing.  Usually I don't get there 'til it's all picked over, but THIS TIME I went early.  Sometimes I get stuff just for the material, or the trimmings, and other times I'll see a piece and do some "reverse engineering" on it to turn it into something else.  But I don't need to do that this year - everything I found is good to go!

I LOVE Halloween... it's always been my favorite holiday!  Can't wait..!

Sister's halloween costume
My twin sister lives 2000 miles away, so it sure is fun to get pictures. This is her Halloween costume this year, which cracked me up.

We may be twins, but apparently we are not identical, because this costume would look a little different on me. So in my reply I said:

In that picture you(r hair) look(s) just like me (mine)!

Halloween candy warning

 HALLOWEEN CANDY RECALLED

There is a new warning put out by the Canadian Food Inspection
 Agency....

Sherwood brand Pirate's Gold Milk Chocolate coins are being
recalled due to the fact that they contain Mel amine, the ingredient in milk
product that has caused many infant deaths in china. These candies are
sold at Costco, as well as many bulk and dollar stores. please make sure to
check your childrens halloween candy and DO NOT LET THEM EAT THE
PIRATE COINS (you know the ones wrapped in the shiny gold foil) and
please let other parents know about this!

I am a Baptist and love to decorate for Halloween.
My husband and his family on the other hand don't like Halloween nor the decorations, since he feels that way, he doesn't help me and my daughter decorate. Whatever. We love decorating so we do it anyway. If they don't like it then don't look. It is just a day to have fun and decorate. Some people need to relax a little and let loose.
This just brings it back to the Halloween talk-
We are NOW allowed as adults to wear masks as in covering our face for Halloween- at least in my section of the country. We might be thieves but others can! Love your post, by the way.
1978 Halloween and 1960 Psycho....

In the spirit of Halloween - favorite scary movie?
I'm too chicken to watch scary movies most of the time!  I though Sixth Sense was good, but I guessed the ending half way through.  Stir of Echoes scared me pretty good.  I thought The Ring was horrible until the very end when I just about peed my pants!  How about you all?
We're having a big fall/Halloween party on Sunday. sm

I need some great ideas to ask guests to bring - Husband and I are providing the main meal but I'm asking some friends and relatives to bring "side" items.  The main dish will be chili dogs. I asked friend to bring a few bags of chips.  Anything else interesting a few people can bring to accompany? Not everyone is bringing something. We do this every year, have hay rides, and it lasts all day. We play games and give out prizes. It's a blast.  A lot of people from our church will be coming.  I'm really not the only one hosting it, but the other hosts need to know what to bring...I can't think of anything interesting besides drinks and chips!

I'm making my famous marshmallow witches again this year and another gal is bringing baby cany apples by scooping out a portion of an apple with a melon thingie and dipping those in caramel. I've never heard of them before but she said they were so cute!  What do you creative women think??I need to let my other hostesses know today some time.  thanks!!

Any funny/great ideas for couples Halloween costumes?
My 24-year-old DS and his SO have to dress up for a Halloween party.  His older brother and his wife are going as Dog and Beth, and 24YO DS is trying to come up with something even better than that.  Any ideas out there?
The original Halloween, the original Exorcist and the first Phantasm...
today's are too computer generated and phony. Not enough scare factor for me!
Whatever you want to wear - sm
You are going to love the Lion King! When I went a couple years ago there were people in dresses and suits, but a lot of other people, including myself, in just a nicer outfit - slacks and a sweater. Some people were even in jeans.
I got some to wear in the car when
we went on vacation last summer. They were great. I could actually work and not hear anything else going on in the car. However, I never use them at home because they are SOO big. I have my favorite pair that I wear, but when they wear out, I guess I will be wearing my expensive BIG ones! They do work, though
what to wear?
Need a bit of help.  I am a full-figured woman (26) and have been invited to a fancy, fancy wedding.  What am I going to wear? I do not wear skirts or dresses.  I have looked online for plus size fancy occasion pant sets but cannot find anything that looks good.  They all look real cheap.  For this affair the cost of an outfit will be no problem.  I just need advise/help on finding something.  Probably need size 26/28 as I would rather get bigger than smaller and then have it tailored.
There is no way I would wear the one ...sm
with the jewelry hanging from it. That irks me. I just want to grab the thing and jerk it off. LOL. The one with the crystals in the contact lense without the thing hanging I think is cool.
yes some did wear them
My mom used to tell me about it. I was not born then either. She actually had one. The underskirt is something like the slip they wear under a square dance dress, they are made of very stiff tulle/mesh.

Mom said they get that stiff because they would spray them with spray starch/sugar water and hang them to dry.

The most of the poodle skirts you will see now are made of felt. You can get a pattern for it in the Halloween catalog for the major pattern companies. Look on line for McCall or Simplicity.
You should wear them...
I'm sure she'd be glad you liked keeping her close at heart and also you probably look very beautiful in them and she would be glad you are enjoying these earthly things that she took the time to purchase.  Just remember, life is too short, and the jokes about "giving me that jacket" were showing how much you loved her taste in apparel, so why not wear them and know that your sister would have thought you look great in them!  JMO.
I would wear them - sm
When my mom died I took about 80% of her clothes. Right now I cannot fit into them but we were the same height, though she weighed about 10 pounds less. But I can easily wear all her shirts and dresses...once I lose some weight, put on 35 pounds after she died. It makes me feel good to have her stuff and some of the smaller tops I have given to my daughters who are thrilled to have a little bit of grandma with them.
That's why I don't wear them
Too expensive and too restrictive, but I'm small enough to get away with it.
Probably not Pentecostal either. We wear
pants lots of times (even to church). We don't have home church meetings either. We have church in the sanctuary like most other denominations.
I normally wear two rings;
my wedding ring on my left hand and an opal on my right hand. For some reason, I always have to take my wedding ring off because it slows me down if I'm wearing it yet I keep my opal on because I feel it slows me down if it's off. ???? Strange I know.

I also wear Ace bands on my wrists. Have done this for a few years now because I don't want the big CT and it slows me down now if I don't have those on.
I don't wear mine either.

We've been married since 1998 and I wear my rings maybe once a week for only an hour or so at a time...I am so hard on jewelry I'm afraid I would either destroy them or lose them.  Some of the things I do around here could get them crushed on my finger as well, so I even consider them a safety hazard!  I only wear them when we go out.  My husband never wears his either except when we go out.  All of them are kept in my little jewelry box so we know where they are.  It's never been an issue, but we're not that mainstream of a couple either!

None, never wear a bra, hate it. nm

Whatever it is you choose to wear...
just make sure it compliments the bridal party's ensemble.
It doesn't necessarily have to be a solid color, but if you choose a dress with floral patterns, make sure it doesn't clash too much with the MOB or the rest of the bridal party.

Go here (but in case it does not show) Smarter.com and search mother of the groom dress. It will give you several online stores. At least you can get an idea of what you might want.

My little princess would not wear
a collar! I was so worried that if she gets out she will not come back or be returned cause she wouldn't have a collar on with a tag. She just kept pawing at it and one day got her bottom jaw stuck trying to take it off. I gave up....
I'm glad I don't wear it all.

What would you wear to this occasion? (sm)
Mother and father-in-law's 50th anniversary part, at a country club, 7 p.m., not a dinner, just sort of a reception with cake and such, wine...how formal?
I just wear flats
I'm actually taller than my husband so I always wear flats. I think they're so much more comfortable for me anyway. Heels actually make the balls of my feet hurt.
It seems that is how they like to wear their hair...
I don't think there is anything specific behind it.  Maybe they believe it conservative?
Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, or Do without!
x
Maybe because no one has said to them they SHOULDN'T wear it...
nothing uglier than muffin top under too tight shirts, fat thighs in too tight jeans, sucking down an soda and eating a burger. Some people need to look in a mirror, or better yet, shop at a real department store, spend some money on good quality clothing, stop trying to dress like a teenager, and bring along a friend who will tell you how you REALLY look in the clothes you try on.
Anyone ever buy swim wear online?

I'm having a heck of a time finding a bathing suit anywhere locally (Wisconsin).  The only place I see them are online, and I'm a bit hesitant about purchasing because it's a hassle returning, etc. Any suggestions?  Goin' on a cruise in December.  Thanks for your suggestions.

No, But I Only Wear an Engagement Ring....

It's not the biggest diamond in the world so it doesn't bother me.  The whole "bare wrists" is another story, however.

I wear my rings all the time
I don't think I can get them off if I wanted to. LOL. My husband only wears his ring on special occasions. He can't wear any jewerly. His fingers swell up. He also can't wear necklaces or watches. It used to bother me, but as long as he wears it when we go out, I'm fine with it.
Wear a soft t-shirt for a while and
leave it in her favorite place to sleep so she will have your scent. Mine love to sleep on my clothes!
Do your dogs wear clothes?

little doggie sweaters or hats or boots?

mine don't. I had a dog once that I tried to put a sweater on but I lost.

My cats wear tutus. :)
he, he
I think it is perfectly fine, as you have to wear it, not him!
I did not pick out the exact ring, but definitely discussed the cut and style I wanted. My feeling is if a man truly cares about the woman he would want to get her the ring SHE wants, not the one he can afford or the one he picks out. I'd be more worried about that to be honest. JMO
Either 1 or 2 - whichever I could possibly wear somewhere else. nm

La Venta Inn wedding - what to wear???

I've been invited to a wedding in CA at the LA Venta Inn the weekend of Thanksgiving.  I would like some input on what to wear.  Looks like a pretty nice place and I know they are trying for a sunset wedding ceremony - like around 4:30 with the reception at the Inn afterwards.  I know it gets cool in the evenings, but if anyone has any suggestions on what to wear - I would appreciate it.  Sounds like a formal or semi-formal affair.  Thanks.

I used to wear gas perms years ago (sm)
and if I am remembering correctly, it seems like I was told to periodically scrub the lenses with some baking soda to remove all the deposits (I have a lot of allergies, too, and they'd get covered in the gunk). Seemed to make them fit and feel better.
