What would you do? - sm

You find out that your teen (almost 17) has been drinking, smoking cigarettes and pot, and you suspect other substances. She has been hanging around some new kids that by appearance are "sketchy" to say the least. She has become secretive, oppositional, rebellious, disrespectful (more than usual) and lies constantly. Has her license and has been driving around, but now you have reason to believe that she is driving recklessly, speeding and carting kids around, and you are worried about her driving under the influence, which she of course denies. When she gets grounded, instead of taking her punishment, earning back her rights, she becomes more oppositional, defiant, vulgar, and disrespectful. Every other word out of her mouth is the "F" bomb. She tells you "F___ you!!" constantly. Doesn't care what you say. Says she now no longer cares about school or anything. Wants to leave her prison (aka home) and is counting the days, etc., etc.

My question is, at this point if you feel you have no control over your previously well behaved child, what would you do? How tough would you get? Would you start suspecting substance abuse being the cause of her behavioral changes?

I need some insight here. Thanks for your thoughts.
