In Reply to: would any of you have a prob if your childs teacher told the truth about santa? - me

I loved doing the Santa thing, still do, and don't think it was up to the teacher to proclaim there's no Santa, even if asked by the kids, just say take it up with your parents or something.  I used to have a Christmas decoration of Santa that had just BELIEVE on it.  For me, and I tried to instill in my kids, it is a spirit of wonder and giving that is interconnected with everything else about Christmas.  Of course, I'm sure my kids knew early on there was really no Santa, but I don't think their psyche was warped because of it.  I remember one of them telling me that a friend had told them there was no Santa and that they believed them.  I said, okay, we don't need to get the stockings out this year then, do we... in a joking manner (since I don't want my tone to be taken wrong here) and a smile on my face.  Put an end to that, because usually Santa is the one who brings, if possible and the "elves" are able to find it, that one item that they might really be wanting for Christmas.  Presents under the tree are usually more practical items.  I miss those days a lot.

Kind of on a similar line of the odd things that teachers sometimes say in class, my 3rd grade daugther was going through a section on drugs in her class.  The teacher personally asked the students what their parents were in the habit of using!  My daughter said to me, "I told her that my parents have a glass of wine on special occasions, was that okay to say, mom?"  Good grief!  One little girl said her dad had a 6-pack of beer after work every day, and my daughter felt really bad for her that she had to say that in class.  Caffeine was also on the list of drugs that was given to the students, and I had a little trouble justifying to her that mom didn't need to be carted off to the rehab unit, that my coffee was half and half, so I wasn't totally an addict.   My husband did say something to the adminstration about that particular incident I remember, as we didn't think it was appropriate to personally pin down children in public on their parents' habits, even though drug education is great when done right and definitely need the info put out there at an early age these days!

Anyway, happy holidays to you all, and BELIEVE, maybe not in Santa, but in the spirit of whatever your chosen higher power might be.
