because you seem to know EVERYTHING about medical situations and think everyone else is just plain wrong no matter what. Just because a baby is 8-1/2 pounds does not mean they will automatically do an episiotomy. As I posted above, my son had a 14-inch circumference head, and I did not tear or require an episiotomy. Some women have an easier time with childbirth, and others have it more difficult. Personally, I think the difference for me was the perineal massage that was done while I was in labor because it was difficult pushing, and the doctor was just about to get out the forceps if it had taken much longer.
