I am sorry if I offended you, so I will clarify by letting you know what happened to us.
My son was pulled from class by the school counselor and sent to therapy for low self-esteem issues.
The counselor did this without our permission or a treatment plan. It was totally random. We called the school district and complained and he was not sent back to the therapy sessions, but it was a huge mess to confront the school and principal.
We did take him to the university for an educational evaluation and he was diagnosed as highly gifted. The teacher remarked that after his testing, his self-esteem seemed really high.
We sent him to gifted summer camp where he was among other quirky, sensitive, etc. kids. He felt very normal. We have never had any issues after that.
