Spare the rod makes me cringe
*Spare the rod and spoil the child* is an abuser's favorite justification for his own unacceptable and out of control behavior.
My husband's choice still makes me cringe a bit!
This isn't an answer to your question, but it brought up something that I giggle over 22 years after my wedding day. We had a pretty traditional wedding with a reception for 125 people back in 1985. I did all of the planning, and the only thing that by husband was at all passionate about was the song for our first dance. Sheesh! I went out onto the dance floor with him and "Wild is the Wind" by David Bowie started to play. It's a nice song, but it's 6-minutes long and Bowie moans in the middle of it. That went over well with the great-aunts and grandparents! NOT! Also picture this: The song is about how passionate and wild love is. I married an accountant with a very shy personality. It was a bit out of character.

Even today, during some of the mundane moments of life, I sing the song to him. He came home from work the other day and found me scrubbing a toilet, and I started singing, "Our - love - is - like - the wiiiiind! ooooooo!" LOL

In DH's defense, he did plan our honeymoon to Mexico by himself, and he did a great job of that.
Congratulations to you!
winner, winner, chicken dinner !!

I am so beaming with pride over my dear 8yo son.  He entered a story for the PBS sponsored Reading Rainbow contest and won second place out of over 250 entries.  We'll take that strong second.  The story is absolutely adorable, based on true events.  One day at school, after a set of pretty bad circumstances, he had to tell a lie to his teacher.  He was so tore up about it that he couldn't tell me.  He had never told a lie before in his entire life.  The story he wrote is called "Owl's First Lie."  It is really, really cute, sweet and heartwarming.

So, if anyone wants to view his amazing work, go to www.wgvu.com  Then click on clubhouse, then reading rainbow, then winners.... Third Grade, second place.  Just beaming with pride here, wanted to share with my friends!!

Some guy just convinced you of that. ewwww

also, what time in the day is the wedding? Makes a difference. nm

Bridges...makes me ball my eyes out every time!

I really don't like "girly" movies either but for some reason I have to watch this one if I stumble on it while I'm "flicking" around.  I always always always wind up crying like a big baby.  It's such a beautifully done film.  Just a classic.

Exactly - it's taking the time that makes me feel guilty too sm
Solution they are saying is to go to bestlife.com and sign a contract with yourself and then Oprah has a bestlife challenge with diet and exercise and other tips and an online journal, etc. In the past when I have exercised regularly, I found that I felt like I had more time, because I had more energy to get things done. So I am trying to get back to that again.

p.s. uh, I was a kid - I cringe at that now NM

smegma
is just a matter of cleanliness. Women get smegma as well; what do you propose we do about that, remove the labia? In countries where this is done We refer to it as genital mutilation. We think that because we perform circumcision in sterile environments that it's somehow not barbaric.

You should watch a video of an infant being circumcised & see if you still think it's not abusive.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrtXZSDeTEk

The American Academy of Pediatrics no longer supports routine circumcision for infant males, saying the benefits do not outweigh the risks.

smegma for one! ...bleah...nm

oh yea don't forget the smegma smell
HAHAHAHA
Does anyone have a fav winner?
I hated Richard Hatch (this has nothing to do with his sexuality) and was shocked when he won. Couldn't stand Rob and Amber and was so glad when they lost on the Amazing Race. I have only watched on and off this year, but from last years shows I really liked James. I was very suprised about what Eric did last night. Very gullible!
That's a $10,000 winner if ever I saw one! - nm
xx
Fabric softener makes towels softer, yes, but it also makes them less absorbent. sm
Which is, after all, the function of a towel, absorbency. :-)
Yep, David A has to be the winner. He was last night.
I like David C also, but he just sounded like he was struggling. Just did not seem like he wants to win.
Who do you want to win? Winner announced tonight!! SM
There is no way I could make that decision.  This season has just been amazing.  I must say that Joshua is outstanding and jumps higher than I can believe.  They are all so wonderful.
That's a Pulitzer Prize winner if I ever saw one.... sm
Prayers for all the folks in California who have lost homes or had to evacuate and didn't know if they had a home to come back to.
Winner and runner up for DWTS nm

A Lottery winner so we can be happily unemployed.
?
Here is another unlikey winner. A mobile phone salesman. sm
This guy will knock your socks off also. He is from the Britain's Got Talent.

We play bingo and give out mystery gifts to the winner. Very simple..
Every person who attends the party, bring 1 gift..they are all put under a little table tree and when someone wins a round of bingo, they select gift from under the tree. It can be a lot of fun if you get fun qwirky gifts. We all have a laugh at some of the gifts.
No! That sounds too desperate. TIME. Just give it TIME. If it is real, then sm
something will definitely evolve. If you like him, flirt back! Don't act desperate because if he DOES like you, then the suspense will just make him want to get to know you more. Trust me on this.

I worked in the medical records department of a hospital when I was single and dated a few co-workers in my early 30s. It was fun. Nothing serious came about any of the relationships.

This sounds like fun - the beginning of maybe something to come....Keep us informed.
Totally agree, get these from time to time since teens...sm
It's a neuro condition, it does not mean there is anything at all wrong with you, it is actually related to narcolepsy, hypnagogic (sp? I just got up!) hallucinations, etc. And I HATE when I get these, it is always freaky, my siblings get this too, at times. I can "go away" for years and years before you get another episodes, so don't worry! I heard that when you are under a lot of stress or are very busy with things that this happens more??? Take care!!
It's time to stop when you or the kid(s) feel it is time, and no sooner. sm
My grandmother (who passed away at the young age of 107 back in the mid 1990s) was STILL celebrating every little holiday for all of her many kids and grandkids, and she would STILL give me a chocolate bunny every Easter, as she had since I was a toddler and even though I was 40ish at the time (and I still delighted in biting its head off in front of her, as I had also done since I was a toddler, which always met with mock disapproval from her).

Don't let anyone dampen your joy in celebrating your traditions.
The very 1st time he talked about killing you, was the time
The guy sounds like a psycho.
Rachael Ray has a segment from time to time
on using the bottom of the bottle receipes (i.e. bar-be-q sauce, peanut butter, maple syrup) and I have used many of her ideas and been amazed at how far you can stretch a dollar that way. Go to her website, it will give you many ideas.
Oh Amy, surely there was a man who "kept" you from time to time..
or you were at least married and had access to money!
It was a great time - I just hate the time we are in now
I liked your post. Thanks for replying It's nice to know other people were raised like me. We seem to appreciate the things we have. Oh I should've also said we didn't have A/C growing up. My parents idea of A/C was having my sister and I wave a piece of cardboard in front of them. HA HA HA.

I just couldn't stand the 90s and 2000s are even worse. I hate all the politics going on today, the world events, the bleak future. The degenerates running around, listening to kids talk back to their parents, girls gone wild, etc, etc. I'm grateful my grandparents and mom are not alive anymore to have to go through this with us.

I love watching old movies and the music of the 40s/50s. If I was alive back then I would've been doing the jitterbug and all those other fun dances. Life seemed simpler and cleaner (even though I've got a mouth like a sailer - guess I got that from my Army days).

I wouldn't mind the turn of the century either. I love the clothing and the simple life. Those are the times when the husband took care of the wife. If I could be transported back to the 1800s I surely would in a second.
this makes me sad...

Life is too short to be unhappy.  If you don't love your husband and are not attracted to him anymore, then why don't you leave him? I can't imagine why people (both men and women) stay in a bad, unhappy marriage.  It can't be worth the effort.

Thankfully, I am very happily married (though of course, we do have our bad times...) and can't imagine my life without my husband.  But at the same time, I can't imagine being miserably married either.

You need to search your heart and really figure out how you feel about your husband.  Good luck!

makes me sad, too. nm

Makes you wonder
how often this has happened with him over the 7-year period of his relationship with the other gal. I would be very cautious as the other posters say. Wait for someone who is worthy of you!
What makes you think she will?
I have always been very open with all of my children, and I have 4, 3 are grown, and they tell me everything.  So far I have one who is in grad school and still a virgin because he said he refuses to have relationships just for the sake of having them, he'll wait until the "one" comes along.  One is married.  One is 18 and did have sex at 17 and said it was the worst thing he'd ever done and he wishes he would have waited.  He told me about it the next day and was upset about it.  My daughter isn't dating although she has 2 boys at the current time who are interested.  She said "Mom I'm too young for that, I'd rather be friends right now."  She also knows that should the time come when she IS ready for a serious relationship, she could come to me to help her make decisions and take full precautions.  She in fact told the doctor she knows all about "crotch rot" and it isn't worth the risk.  I have friends who say their children won't even talk to them if they need a laxative and that's really sad...if they can't talk to their parents, who will they talk to?  So if my daughter tells me that she agrees she doesn't need it and her doctor said if she has no "at risk" behaviors she doesn't need it, then there's absolutely no reason to get it, esp considering there ARE side effects to it and it's new on the market, so the full effect won't be known for a few years.
this makes me want to
stop buying pet food all together and feed my animals food that I eat. Who knows what else has been poisoned with this, treats, other brands of foods, etc. I have been watching all my animals very closely, even though they don't eat any of the recalled foods. Scary issue.
Not OP but can you tell me who makes this?
You made it sound soooo good I have to try it! :)
Tell me about it- and what makes me mad
is if you struggle for 2-3 years and slowly pay off all your creditors like I did, you can't get credit to save your life.

Yet if I had just declared bankruptcy and let them all go I would be rolling in credit by now because they know that you can only declare it every 7 years so they figure you are a better risk. I think that kind of logic is kind of questionable and definitely unfair. I don't really want a bunch of credit cards any more but I do have to have credit to buy a car and/or a house someday and then what? Pay 35 percent interest??
Me makes 3!
Hope you don't mind another neighbor hopping into this string. Finally saw someone close to my area and it made me smile. I'm originally from near Hershey, but relocated to close to Altoona this past January. It's not quite as close to Pittsburgh as you all, but it was close enough for me to want to say hi! Felt good to see a post from "my region" ... feel like I'm all alone in this MT world sometimes LOL
Makes me wonder if he
is gay or something. This is really weird!

And that makes it okay?
He's an elected official; he is held to much higher standards than the general public.  That attitude is why the exploitation of women is so accepted in our sick and twisted society...geez!
My ex makes a lot more $$ than me so
he pays 75% of expenses, I pay 25%.
Makes me think of someone I know.....ME!!! lol!

Thanks......that was a good laugh.....

too familiar!

Makes me wonder...
if the delivery person gets this surcharge or the company keeps it.
That makes 2 of us!

Me too! - that makes three of us.
I did get married outdoors at a location of a famous movie though!
OH, THAT MAKES ME SO MAD!! My
ex-husband would literally refuse to let them in, no matter how they tried to push in front of us.
That just makes me ill
Talk about milking the system for every little penny they can get. Seven kids and ANOTHER on the way! What a bunch of scum! Get a real job and stop reproducing!
That just makes me ill
Talk about milking the system for every penny you can get! There are many people out there who actually NEED that kind of help and can't get it! These scum bangs need to stop having so many kids just so they can sit at home being lazy and not get an actual job while our tax dollars pay for them being so irresponsible!
Whenever she makes a comment that you
suspect is made as a dig, try smiling pleasantly and saying, "What?" and waiting for a reply. If she is trying to be mean and trying to slip it by everybody else, she may not be willing to explain what she meant. If you do it every time, not quite hearing or understanding those comments, you will tire her out because her zing didn't hit.
Oh, well THAT makes it so, huh?! Look, CHRIST is
I don't hate Santa. But this business of "thank God for Santa" is utter sacrilege.

I'm tired of hearing how Santa is what keeps everything good and the hope alive. BULL.

Christ. Remember that name. Christ.

All of you who are ga-ga over the commercialization business of Christmas -- that is nauseating, it is sacrilegious and it flies in the face of God.

Pathetic.
