winner, winner, chicken dinner !!

I am so beaming with pride over my dear 8yo son.  He entered a story for the PBS sponsored Reading Rainbow contest and won second place out of over 250 entries.  We'll take that strong second.  The story is absolutely adorable, based on true events.  One day at school, after a set of pretty bad circumstances, he had to tell a lie to his teacher.  He was so tore up about it that he couldn't tell me.  He had never told a lie before in his entire life.  The story he wrote is called "Owl's First Lie."  It is really, really cute, sweet and heartwarming.

So, if anyone wants to view his amazing work, go to www.wgvu.com  Then click on clubhouse, then reading rainbow, then winners.... Third Grade, second place.  Just beaming with pride here, wanted to share with my friends!!

Sometimes it freaks me out. I'm a runner and take Walter the lab for (sm)
a pretty long haul every single morning.  Roll out of bed, feet in sneakers, quick coffee, grab Ipod and leash him up and off we go.  Except for this week it started to rain so I skipped the early run, let him out for a while and then started work early.  When I look over at him he has taken my running shoes from beside the bed and is napping with them pillowed under his head by my desk.  I imagine he actually sat there with the shoes looking at me for a while and fell asleep.  I realized how much he loved the runs and the routine and he was very disappointed that day.  So we'll continue our runs rain or shine.  I can handle a little discomfort for my best bud.
Or keep it the same tile and use an area rug in LR and a rug runner in hallway

My husband is a runner and is very active in his track club.
He drives me a little crazy, because it's nothing for him to run 10-miles for a "simple" workout. But he does a lot with the club by setting up races, some of which benefit charities. And he's very good, by the way. He's finished well in national track meets. He's also the treasurer for our son's boy scout troop. I'm an assistant scoutmaster and do all of the outside stuff with the kids. Hubby HATES camping, hiking, backpacking. But that's the stuff for me! Our interests overlap in a few areas, but there have been times that we even take separate vacations. (Lots of people gasp at that.) But, occasionally, we can combine them. He's running in Maine next year, and I know that there is a river that passes in front of our hotel. I'm bringing my kayak! He can run all he wants! :)
Santa Cruz, CA. Fifty bucks got me 3/4 tank in my 4 Runner @ 3.93/gallon. Plus... sm

There is a $50 limit at the gas pumps for credit cards... so could not fill it all the way up!  That's kinda lame... (I get cash rebate so using that for gas always).  My 4Runner is not too bad on a gas for a truck... not like a Honda though.  But at least my dog can hang is head out the rear window!

Does anyone have a fav winner?
I hated Richard Hatch (this has nothing to do with his sexuality) and was shocked when he won. Couldn't stand Rob and Amber and was so glad when they lost on the Amazing Race. I have only watched on and off this year, but from last years shows I really liked James. I was very suprised about what Eric did last night. Very gullible!
That's a $10,000 winner if ever I saw one! - nm
xx
Yep, David A has to be the winner. He was last night.
I like David C also, but he just sounded like he was struggling. Just did not seem like he wants to win.
Who do you want to win? Winner announced tonight!! SM
There is no way I could make that decision.  This season has just been amazing.  I must say that Joshua is outstanding and jumps higher than I can believe.  They are all so wonderful.
That's a Pulitzer Prize winner if I ever saw one.... sm
Prayers for all the folks in California who have lost homes or had to evacuate and didn't know if they had a home to come back to.
DWTS
Three tough choices left because I think all three of the finalists are really good.  If personality were a deciding factor I'd say Joey Fatone should win - he's quite a showman.  Laila is just a natural - beautiful and fun to watch and Apollo has worked so hard and improved tremendously - really I'd say any of them deserve to win but I'll put my money on Joey.
DWTS
Did anyone see the dancing last night?  Any predictons for tonight's results?  I thought Apollo was awesome on the freestyle.
DWTS!

DWTS
The ONLY good one was the first one; the second one had some good parts. After that it was all downhill for me. Yawn. Wouldn't you all rather dance than watch? Come on, get out there and quit living vicariously! I bet some of you could dance the sox off those people. Hayseed's man looks like he is ready to go! Hope she has her dancing shoes shined up and her bag packed in case he decides to enter the contest!
DWTS
Shawn only won because all the young gymnasts voted for her.   My daughter (17) is a high level gymnast so we know all the gab boards and they have all been encouraging them to vote.   Unfortunately, she is not a very nice person and any of the other 2 would have been better as the winner.   They were much better dancers.   If anyone here follows gymnastics, Nastia would have been a much better choice as she has the body and grace for DWTS and everyone could have seen what a great person she is.   Shawn is very fake and immature.   My daughter has a  good friend that used to compete with her and she was very nasty to the other gymnasts.   Not a side the public sees, however.
DWTS and AI......
Shawn Johnson won the 'Dancin iwith the Stars' competition, although Gilles should have won.

Today Kris won 'American Idol,' but Adam should have won!

Aaarrrggghhh!
A Lottery winner so we can be happily unemployed.
?
Anything beats DWTS - IMO - LOL

Here is another unlikey winner. A mobile phone salesman. sm
This guy will knock your socks off also. He is from the Britain's Got Talent.

Went to the semifinals of DWTS on Monday!

I was lucky enough to snag a pass to Dancing With The Stars on Monday!  Wow - what a totally fun show that is!  (I am SO addicted!)  The dancing is even more amazing in person than it is on TV - those people are unbelievable.  I just wish I could go again NEXT week, as well.  I think any of the 4 couples could've won, and was sad to see Ian have to leave. Still, my money is on Apolo!

(BTW - it really is TRUE that televison adds 10 lbs... everyone there is considerably thinner than they appear on camera!)

Any comments from DWTS fans?

I missed a bit of yesterday's Dancing with the Stars finale show, but looks like Helio and Julianne overall had the strongest performance.

What happened to Mel and Maks' freestyle?  They were like kinda deflated or something.

IMO, Marie and Jonathan usually come up with pleasant surprises, but last night's freestyle was a real puzzler - I am not sure why Jonathan would agree to choreograph such a cutesy (yawn) routine when the competition is so fast and fierce.  Marie was a bit too vocal with the judges...after all, they are the "experts."

I like DWTS, just haven't seen it enough lately to comment (nm)

I do not watch DWTS but did notice
on the previews, etc. I thought Shawn was what I would call stubby, not graceful at all, I thought sorta chunky myself.
smegma is the winner for me...makes me cringe every time...ewwww
nm
heard they are considering DWTS Anabe judge
heard they were considering the female judge from Dancing With The Stars - the Anabe lady....cannot remember her name - Christine?  not sure of first name
I got it! DWTS judge=Carrie Ann Inabe..n/m

great final show as was DWTS also....

We play bingo and give out mystery gifts to the winner. Very simple..
Every person who attends the party, bring 1 gift..they are all put under a little table tree and when someone wins a round of bingo, they select gift from under the tree. It can be a lot of fun if you get fun qwirky gifts. We all have a laugh at some of the gifts.
I got a runner in my pantyhose-Im not wearing pantyhose

Lights....lights help...
