I came to the conclusion that sometimes what is best for them is not best for us. I cannot imagine that they understand painful and uncomfortable treatment. You did the right thing - painful for you as it was. It destroys me when I lose a pet, and even more when I have to make the decision - so very sorry. Sending hugs and empathy your way.
