How about just letting the OP take the suggestion & see if it applies to her situation or not?

All due respect, your self-appointed guardianship of all things tech is starting to get on my nerves.

I live in a rural area. There are people around here more rural than I who have dslextreme. The best thing to do is to go the site & see if service exists to a given area. It's also possible to get accelerated dialup without having to have true DSL. It's not as fast, but it's an improvement. I believe dslextreme offers this. Others as well.

Can't speak for "most" companies,
but TRS (which has now merged with Transcend) has QA people on instant messenger. One of them bailed me out just about an hour ago, in fact. :)
