and many are 3-4 pages long....sm

I loved them, back in the days - a lot of these reports are EXPERT WITNESS reports too...and perhaps the dictator has not even seen the patient....just reporting based on medical records/radiology, et cetera.  Most of mine (back in the days) were 3-4 pages long, done for orthopaedists and/or chiropractors.

I do a minimal amount and the letter was about 2 pages long but mostly about ASR.

How long are the pages or are you just doing sticky notes to be slapped

I have 1st edition AAMT BOS, company requires I have 2nd edition.
I don't think you can just get updates but have to buy 2nd edition book.  I need cheap.  I did find one place for $70, anywhere cheaper?  I checked the equipment board here for the last month and didn't see any offered.
One thing about wading thru pages and pages looking for negatives, is...
it really does show that the seller is overall very good. Know what I mean?  There will always, always, always be those customers who are impossible to please, especially on E-Bay.  I've gotten almost all my negatives from leaving calm, but justifiable negatives when the buyer had stiffed me and not gone thru with the sale. We are called to leave these negatives as sellers to warn the community, but instantly we will get flamed with a retaliatory negative that is a total lie.  So, now most sellers don't leave justified negatives anymore! That said, really, if you have to wade thru page after page to find even 1 negative, I would say you're safe bidding, as long as the feedback is current!
My 1995 edition (called the 1st edition by most)
is 519 pages long.

Maybe you're thinking of AAMT's old gold Style Guide for Medical Transcription? (though my 1985 edition of that is only 70 pages long)
?? I see all as usual, pages ad pages. NM

5th edition is out now!

BOS 3rd edition changes sm

For those who do not have the 3rd edition of AAMT BOS, thought I would let you know the changes.  Just got my copy.   I think some of them will take a lot of reeducation.  I do QA, and I know how hard it has been to move everyone toward putting 3-cm lesion.  Now we have to tell them it is wrong!  Sigh....

* Dropping the use of hyphens with numeric values and metric units when forming compound modifies (2 cm incision rather than 2-cm incision)

*Dropping the use of periods in most lowercased Latin abbreviations, like legal abbreviations (et al, eg, ie, viz, etc) and literary reference abbreviations (p, pp, sec)

*Continued trend toward dropping the use of periods with abbreviated personal and coutesy titles unless it is known that the person in question prefers the inclusion of a period (Dr, Mrs, Jr, Sr)

*Dropping the use of a comma to separate a person's last name from titles, such as Jr, Sr, or roman numerals following a person's last name from titles, such as John H Smith III.

*The inclusion of a space between the numeric value and the degree symbol when expressing temperature values and their scales (using degree sign)

*Dropping the space between parameters when expressing TNM staging for malignant tumors (T2N1M0 rather than T2 N1 M0 OR T2, N1, M1)

*Dropping the use of subscripts with EEG electrode references.

No that I wanted links posted - would be nice - but just curious if other shave a site or myspeace page for their own benefit.

I appreciate your info
Stedman's 4th edition is even better...
than the 3rd.  It's true there may not be every single radiology term in Stedman's, but I don't know of ANY reference, text or electronic, that has every know term.  For any book on ANY specialty to have every conceivable term is impossible - unless we want books 10 feet thick.
AAMT BOS second edition-sm
Does anyone have this for sale for a reasonable price or know where I can purchase it for a reasonable price? Thanks in advance.
stedman edition

u dont know how much i appreciated this bit of orientation. I just started my first oficial transcription job at a nephrologist office. I'm so proud of myself after trying in within two years to KICK my foot in the door. This week has been tough but I'm learning and quickly catching on. I just cant wait till I can effortlessly fly through my reports. Thanks for the advise. I will purchase my book through ebay tonight.

thank you again,

In 1985, when their BOS was only 85 pages....sm

Back in the 80s, AAMT used to care about all the MTs.  Their BOS was only 85 pages long (I still have one of these BOS....a gold book, very tall and very skinny)....then the AAMT got big and it all went to their heads and their 2nd edition BOS is close to something like 600+ pages long.  And now they support offshoring to India/Pakistan.  At that point, they no longer cared about the USA MTs.

Later for the AAMT..........*L*.......MUCH later.

Yellow pages

Since my phone is listed under my business name I get a free listing and have gotten quite a few one-time only jobs, seminars, interviews, etc. that really pay well and not needing a 24 TAT and it has worked for me.   Also no 1099's with then as it is a one time job.   Last year got a 10 tape seminiar on pet therapy and it was almost $2,000 for the seminar done in our spare time over 2 weeks.   Just my 2 cents worth.

1st one in the 1980s was 85 pages....sm

the first AAMT BOS was 85-90 pages long back in 1985....the one I have today, Second Edition bought 2 years ago....has I do believe 600 pages.....

so your question about what has changed cannot be answered in the post here......get yourself a copy ??  Can be ordered right from their site....aamt.org

That is at the top of all pages - I forgot about it! Thanks. (NM)

Stedman's 4th edition is from 2004 and has...
1044 pages of words, plus appendices of 43 pages.  I prefer Stedman's over HPI.
AAMT BOS 2nd edition cost?
Does anyone know how much AAMT charges for a new BOS?  I am looking to purchase the 2nd edition AAMT BOS (have the 1st edition) but cannot get on the AAMT website to comparison shop.  I have looked at Amazon and Half.com.  Any help or suggestion would be much appreciated.
Thank you Cindi, I do have that one, 28th Edition.
Have had it since my very first day MT'ing and wouldn't be without it.

About the BOS-2, we are talking about the 2002 edition?
x
the online electronic edition is definitely
faster and handier, therefore it is much more expensive.
I understand, I think it is just here lately the pages are full of nothing but MQ and then
it turns into arguments and nasty remarks, and so forth.

It isnt really the talking about MQ, it is just the bickering going on about it.

I understand completely about wanting to discuss some things.

I dont really mind the MQ posts, but they are so large in number.

I hope things clear up. Maybe if you and other MQ employees that have a lot of time with them all take some "time off" at the same time, they could get the idea they need you guys.

I guess if I was with someone for that length of time, I would have the same feelings.

I really do wish you the best and I dont want you to think anyone has singled you out. It is the whole MQ thing.

I think we are all scared because MQ is a leading company and scared that they are ruining the whole MT business for us all.

We would all love to see MQ split up or downsize and not be such a big part of the industry. Then again we dont want to see people out of a job either.
Wow, almost 4 pages of the stuff, someone has been busy, nothing better

Claudia Tessier's Third edition 2004, I have

Error in Book of Style 2nd edition!?

Hey!  I just paid over $60 for this dang BOS (my new employer requires I have one), so I'm studying it diligently, and on page 297 they're referring to Salter-Harris fractures as "Slater-Harris".  Thought I was going nuts, checked Stedman's and they say its Salter.  Am worried there are other errors in it, and I won't know it!  Do they publish their bloopers anywhere?

I'm not a member of AAMT (and probably never will be, I'm not a joiner), but I'm pretty doggone disgusted I just shelled out that kind of money for published errors, especially after reading repeatedly in the book how regular MTs aren't worthy of putting letters after their name unless they've been certified by the all-knowing AAMT!  Guess I'd never pass their test since I'd say Salter-Harris instead of Slater!

Anyway, I feel ripped off, especially since all editors/employers act like the AAMT is holy like the pope!  Thanks for listening to me vent!

You need the Book of Style, 2nd Edition, to work out here. Some used

I am a new MT, I was wondering if anyone was selling any "AAMT Book of Style-2nd Edition" or the CD Rom version? Also looking for a current Medical Spellchecker?

Turbo Tax Home Business Edition! Tax Q's!!
OK, I know you probably are sick of taxes, but here I am just getting started, as usual. I always owe so much $$ that it makes me sick, and so I procrasinate. At any rate, I had used Turbo Tax Home Business for several years and it was GREAT until last year. Then they changed the program and it tanked for me, but I have high hopes that maybe this year its better and improved???  My problem is that I work for a company - that big one who shall remain nameless, and am an employee, but I always take the home office deduction -- have done so for 20 years, as my home is taken over by my office. At any rate, last year on Turbo Tax Home Business you could NOT enter your rent or mortgage or any utilities off of a W2 form - you had to be an IC. I also am a per diem IC, so I have a few hundred dollars in W9 forms.  But Turbo Tax last year would NOT let me use this home office deduction - it couldn't recognize it from a technical aspect with the W2 form. I'm just about to blow $100+ on the online version, and thought maybe I'd ask here first. Has anybody used Home Business edition TT this year? Is it great like it used to be? Any snags? I know I was not alone last year with this business office deduction as April 14th this board and all other MT boards were jammed up with hundreds of us trying to figure out how to manually override this snag!  With no luck.... Anybody have any experiences with TT this year? Those are my only deductions, by the way - just home office and utilities, no other itemizations.  So it should be easy.... LOL! LOL!
This is getting ridiculous. I REFUSE to buy yet another edition of the BS of Style.

Those broads at the AHDI or whatever it is called now have too much time on their hands!  They need to get real jobs.  Get back out there in the trenches, have someone QA the crap out their work, and see how they like every changing quicksand of MT.

Go through your local yellow pages and call
companies who advertise they offer health insurance.  Call several companies as the premiums can vary widely, although the coverage will be the same.   I did this and called 6 different companies and the premiums varied as much as $200.00/mo for the same exact insurance.   Celtic was the company that had the best rate for us, but that was nearly 4 years ago.   If you have no pre-existing conditions you can get a temporary insurance through Fortis for 6 months to a year depending on your state, provided that you have not been without coverage for greater than 45 (I think) days.   You can also go on-line to einsurance.com and get an idea of rates, though I still suggest you call local agencies.
Do a search for 'happy with your job' or something like that. This was discussed a few pages b

Check out Jon Barron's health pages
Good info and will help you.  Liver detox is for real and don't listen to anyone saying it isn't.  Too many people helped by this.  Jon Barron and Herbert Shelton can't be wrong.  Don Colbert, M.D. also recommends this.  Get Paul Bragg's book on fasting.  Can't go wrong.  Good luck to you.
