Agree - Tessier Surg GREAT!

Posted By: TeriD on 2006-12-18
In Reply to: No CD, but the book is the BEST! My #1 source - for everything!

I love the Tessier Surgical Word Book, too. One other nice feature is that the new edition will lie flat. Just turn it to the page you need, and it stays right there.

Tessier's Surgical Word book is great for ops

Tessier's is great! Used in combo with the Sted's Ortho and you're good! nm

Agree w/the Tessier's, but I don't think plans are in the works for an updated one. :( nm

med-surg floor
Medical-Surgical floor. The hospitals I worked when I was working in a laboratory would have it as Medical-Surgical Unit/floor.
4 me, med/surg equip also,
my opththalmology, orthopedic and cardio/pulmonary ones are used a whole lot. I have 16 stedman books. Biggest surprise is how much i use the pathology/lab one, for various tests, diseases, diagnoses etc. if you are going to take advantage of your discount opportunity (bet i had the same previous job!), get more than 2 if you can, and ebay them when newer versions come out -- or get some off ebay if you cannot buy new or current...build your library!! Having and using your resources make you a more valuable employee!!
med-surg floor. It's not a proper name. NM
xx
I had the Stedman's Surg and Equip book
as well, and sold it after a month on E-Bay! There is just no comparison. I believe Stedman's surgical books are divided in 2 parts - naturally the one I had was never any use. The Surgical Word Book is HUGE, and it literally has everything and anything in it, alphabetically or categorically. When I first started MTing 20+ years ago, its all I used as well, and it was tiny then compared to now! It is so much more than surgical words - I mean it, it has nearly everything I ever need to look up. If I don't find it there, I go to Stedman's, and last resort google. Its so worth the investment!
Ortho is finite and fun, ETC is interesting, Ophtho is awful! If you like Surg...
Lots of companies will like YOU.
I agree, Ann! It is great!!! nm
.
GREAT POST and I agree.....nm
x
Great posting, and I agree 100%
Whether Dr. Phil says it or one of us says it, no one can make you do anything you don't want to do. Maybe it's time to do some self-evaluation and try to figure out why you're in such desperate need of approval.
Yes, agree with both posters above! Great
stuff. Also, if possible, each dog needs to be able to get away and be alone, if possible. I rescue dogs as well, and also have many labradors. I have an alpha female who is very aggressive when feeling insecure. I have a couple of crates set up around my house with the doors always open. Sometimes as humans, we don't sense the vibes when the dogs might be getting annoyed with each other. So I find different dogs at times just napping or hanging out alone in their crates! I have HUGE crates, so more than 1 can cozy on up, or just 1 to get some alone time. I have never seen an irritable dog chase down a dog to the crate. Its sort of like a safe zone, or time out zone!!  Sadly, yes, no toys at all in our house. I love those Bobo toys from Petsmart!! But toys bring out the beast in them as far as competition. Yikes! Food as well for the alpha female. She wants her's and everybody elses!! But it can be done. Just definitely takes work as others have said! Great for you guys to keep the dogs. So many people find their dogs disposable when their situations change! BRAVO TO YOU!!!  Woof!
Great post and I agree with everything you said.
I make above 75K a year for the same reasons. If you are highly motivated and work into a good focused schedule I know it can be done, improving your production and your paychecks.

You don't have to sacrifice your life either. I work less than 40 hours a week, but those hours are spent on focused WORK.
I agree.... the A Beka program is great!!
nm
I agree. It's a great place to work,
most places are very slow around the holidays. And the owner is a great lady.
I agree -- go for it. After all, 9 cpl is not all that great for IC work, and it sounds like you nm
x
Agree this system is great to use with any expander.
x
I agree - high-speed cable is great....
I use Adelphia and am very pleased.  They offer an introductory rate of $26.95/mo. for first 6 months, and were recently also offering a $50 Visa gift card for "joining".  The fee after that is $44/mo., I believe, but you can group it with a digital cable package and save more money.  I have been very pleased with their reliability thus far.  I went with them literally from day one when they came to my area, and at first the outages were frustrating, but now it is extremely rare for them to go out at all (knock on wood!!!!).
Tessier useless??? OMG!

I could not work without my Tessier.  It's open all day and the pages flying.  A real must for every MT who does op notes.

I use both Stedman's and Tessier
Stedman's for any equipment or materials and Tessier for names of procedures, surgical positions and maneuvers, etc. I also use Google a lot.
Agree! This company is great! Fast service. Big selection. Willing to help, too. nm

Press Release

MoHCA Appoints Tessier as Executive Director

Mobile Healthcare Alliance Chair Ann Geyer Announces Appointment of Claudia Tessier, CAE, as MoHCA's Executive Director

WASHINGTON DC, September 1, 2001

Mobile Healthcare Alliance (MoHCA) is a not-for-profit organization formed to help healthcare vendors and providers influence the adoption of standard practices in mobile data management to ensure professional practices and patient trust. It announces now the selection of Claudia Tessier, CAE, as its Executive Director.

Tessier will direct MoHCA activities throughout the United States and internationally from its Washington DC office. She brings to MoHCA 18 years of association executive experience and leadership in healthcare informatics. She currently serves as chair of ASTM's standards committee E31 for healthcare informatics and is a member of numerous standards organizations including ANSI Health Informatics Standards Board and ISO TC 215 on Health Informatics.

"Mobile health care will facilitate a revolution in health care, and I am excited to head this organization, which will help providers and vendors address the issues of security standards, interoperability, and information management," said Tessier.

"Tessier's experience in data capture and health informatics standards provides an exciting background for MoHCA to become the leading organization to address privacy, interoperability, and user issues in mobile data management," noted Ann Geyer, Chair of the MOCHA Board of Directors.

Palm, Inc. is one of the founding members of MoHCA. "Many mobile healthcare applications are very promising, but user acceptance and confidentiality must first be resolved," said Dan Glessner, Director of Enterprise Marketing at Palm. "We are pleased that MoHCA has attracted an executive director of Tessier's caliber. She has the necessary experience and expertise to assist the board in developing MoHCA as the leader in resolving the issues that will enable widespread adoption of mobile healthcare applications."

"The healthcare industry presents a huge potential market for mobile technology products, but there are real issues related to data integration standards as well as data privacy and security. MoHCA is an excellent forum for really understanding the requirements and developing workable standards and best practices. With Tessier to lead and help grow the organization, MoHCA's ability to influence positive action is greatly enhanced," noted Paul Steinichen, Vice President of Enterprise Technology Solutions at First Consulting Group.

MoHCA Members

The diverse membership of MoHCA is unified by a shared interest of ensuring that mobile applications are incorporated into healthcare processes with appropriate regard for the privacy, confidentiality, and security of health information.

MoHCA Members include wireless carriers, application developers, device manufacturers, system integrators, technology consultants, practitioners, healthcare professional societies, and healthcare organizations.

my point actually was that Claudia Tessier
is a contributing Editor to the BOS, the so-called 'bible' for MTs, and how many other books she has written. She is a CAE, CMT, and here she is as a front-runner pushing for the technology that will no doubt do away with our jobs.

Anyone know, does she have any advice for MTs now, is there any other direction we can shift towards to keep our jobs to stay in this field?

This is what she is heading now:
Health Information Transcription and Documentation (E31.22)
The E31.22 subcommittee recently approved two new standards. The Standard Guide for Data Capture through the Dictation Process (E2344) enhances the quality of documentation by improving the dictation process, thereby improving the dictated message.

The Standard Guide for Speech Recognition Products in Health Care (E2364) assists users in making informed decisions about the design and utilization of speech-recognition systems.

Was it the Surgery Word Book by Tessier? nm
nm
Claudia Tessier's Third edition 2004, I have

Tessier is not a very good reference book. I have one but
haven't used it in years.  I would suggest getting a Stedman's.  I believe they just had a new one come out either this year or last year.   There is new equipment all the time, so an updated book would save you lots of time from searching on-line.
Tessier's has lots of errors in it. My MTSO
told me to toss it.   I don't know how often they update, my copy is several years old, but Stedman's is MUCH better.
Surgical Word Book (Tessier, NOT Stedman's). nm
nm
Tessier's as mentioned & Surgical Word Book

By far, Tessier Surgical Word Book! The Bomb!
nm
page 179 in Tessier's Surgical Words..chromic..nm
s
The Surgical Word Book by Claudia Tessier (see message)
is set up like that. It is black with silver and GREEN lettering.

Love, love, LOVE this book! Good luck!
Also onelook.com as the Dorland's links right off there. Book would be Tessier's Surgical Word
s
Has anyone used Tessier paper back version 5 x 8 book with over 2000 pages - does that make it hard

Great post and i agree 100%. As a former depressed person myself, ,I learned that the most depressed
people are self-centered whether they want to admit or not. I stayed in my cave and only talked about me and my problems and I was severely depressed (runs in family)
After I found God and started attending church regularly, I have completely changed and am off medications. I also give lovingly now to my husband, children, family, and friends and have recently taken over teaching a large woman's Bible study class locally and have never experienced such joy, peace, and happiness in my life.
It wasn't until I began taking my eyes off of me and started looking around at others in more desparate situations that I began to learn the true meaning of life.
Great post. I, too, think fasting is a life-changing exp. When I fasted from food for the first time (I am very overweight :) it was one of the most powerful experiences of my life. There's just something about withholding something that you truly desire or want - it's like putting out flames to a destructive fire within you and it feels GREAT!!!!
Updating surgical references - new Stedmans Word Book, Tessier Surgery Book or others - best one in
nm
Lots of 'em, but use a Lab Words, Sted's Ortho/Rehab Words, & Tessier's Surgical Words most
s
Saw him on CMT show with John Fogarty. Great, great singer with a neat personality and drop dead
gorgeous without seeming to know it.
Great post. I swear by both Advantage and Frontline Plus-- both work great! - sm
I don't know about "natural" approaches for the house. I have always used flea bombs in the past before the miracle of Advantage and Frontline changed my life. Have not had a flea problem at all since I began using those products about 10 years ago, dose all the dogs religiously once a month with the Frontline Plus except in Dec.-Feb. to save a few bucks and because the ground is generally frozen by then and no fleas are scurring about. -- Hope you get flea free soon.
Thanks to all. Got some great feedback and ecouragement. This board is great.
My rant passed, ate a late lunch, now back to the trenches.
GREAT GREAT SHOW! I still think Ellen Pompeo
should have gotten the Emmy/Golden Globe whatever it was for the show. I like Sandra Ho, her character just needs more depth... Next week looks AWESOME!! Maybe there is still a chance for McDreamy!! First season DVD coming out with deleted scenes! Can't wait to get it & watch it!!
It is a GREAT company and great deal! I've had
Vonage about 6 months now and I love it. The only mistake I made was trying to keep my original phone # - I wouldn't recommend that. You have a temp # for a while, and the other provider can fight for the old #, etc. Go to vonage. com. They have new features all the time! There is even a new soft phone that is a phone on your screen. You don't need a real phone when working - just headset. It has 800 #s you can have very inexpensively - great voice mail. You get emails when you have new messages, etc. I only wish I had used them a year ago! Nothing but good things to say, and I complain about everything!
Sounds like he will do great then. Again, best wishes for great success!

That's great Patti. Thanks. Have a great time at the beach.

You should feel great as a transcriptionist if they think your work is that great!!!
It is not your fault they approached you. I think it would be a different storey if you were the one searching for the job to take away from a company. They obviously want to get rid of the company and if you didn't take the job they would probably ask someone else. You should enjoy the better position and not feel guilty!!
Great post -great job of wording your answer! (sm)
Original poster - I completely agree with this answer, especially the part about finding yourself and using all that you have learned intellectually and connecting that to something that you will also enjoy with your heart!! You have so many wonderful options for your future - much more than many of us.
IT - great program, great support system. nm

Agree, agree, agree! Just listen to Benny Hinn..

he speaks perfect English, especially when asking for money!  Also, in my opinion, blanks should be left in the doc's dictation if not able to be transcribed, maybe then they will know that are NOT understood.  With QA fixing them, what need is there for them to care if we understand them or not?

Thanks for all the great advice! You guys are great!
x
Great job
Hi, I'm interested in finding somewhere flexibile also as I have a little one at home.  I'm interested in radiology only.  If the place you work for has openings in this specialty could you let me know??  Thanks!
