Wireless connection
Excuse if this posts twice----- I have two computers but only want my work PC wireless. Can this be done? Thanks.
Wireless connection

All the cell phone companies have mobile wireless service.  You buy their PC card and sign up for their service.  The service is about $50 or $60 a month where I live and you have to sign a contract for a year and only one computer can use it at a time because you have to move the card from PC to PC.

Their are also wireless networks that can run through a home PC and be routed to an unlimited number of computers in the home.  This is usually through a cable company or land line phone company but you send you can't get high-speed internet where you live so that's probably not an option.

I have wireless connection
at home, so I don't think it would be a problem
Wireless connection
I have a USB wireless card through Sprint that I can use on either my laptop or desktop. Had some remote computer repairs done earlier and the tech was amazed by my connection speed, but I am only about a mile to a mile and a half from an enhanced cell tower, so distance from a cell tower will also makes a difference. Verizon also offers a similar card so you might want to check into something like that.
Hope this was helpful.
Wireless internet connection was being
advertised on T.V. last night.  It showed a man using his lap top in a room saying that he was connected to the internet wirelessly.  This sounds like the way to go for me who needs a vacation but can't afford to take one.  Has anyone investigated this?
Laptop w/ Cingular wireless connection
Hi,

I just bought my first laptop since we are getting ready to move across the USA. I researched into using a PC card that connects to cingular wireless (Or verizon) so that I can connect to internet, E-mail, etc. Kind of like a cell phone.

I was wondering if anyone has used this and how well it works in real life?

Thanks for your time.

I'm using a fixed wireless broadband connection
And so far, so good. The tower is just across the cow field, though. I haven't had any cutting in and out and I feel like a kid with a new toy since I'm able to watch You Tube, etc. now. My provider (SEIdata) came and did a site survey before installing it first and told me I had an excellent signal. They put a small box on my roof and ran cable to my office. I plug into an Ethernet modem and I can WIFI it with a router if I want to, too.

I've heard mixed reviews on the "cards," but I would recommend fixed wireless if you have a provider that does a site survey and installation.

alltel has that and i am sure some of the others do too. sm
in our plan, i can add the wireless network connectivity to my plan for $25 a month for unlimited use. it picks up the signal off the cell phone towers, however, it is nowhere near as fast as cable, DSL, or satellite. your laptop has to have the wireless network card, which most newer ones already have them installed. if not, you can purchase one at any computer store or even walmart, etc. you plug your phone into the laptop/computer via USB and it uses your phone's modem to dial out and into their system. in my plan, it does not take away from my mobile minutes, but you can't receive calls if using your phone. they all go straight to voice mail on mine. you also have to purchase the initial setup/software which i think ran about $80.
Anone else lost without the AMA doctor finder site?

First, the AAMTOnline site disappears, and now the AMA site is gone.  Does anyone know of another doc finder site where you can search for "sounds like" names?  I know about the WebMD and 411 sites, but I find these very limiting if you don't know the exact spelling of a name.

Looking for San Antonio MTers who....
work home-based for Methodist Hospital.  Any out there?
Thanks, then I would think the only MTers that need to worry
might be the ones who do clinic work or perhaps work for the office, etc. Sounds like the hospital work, the main 4, will continue as is. If anyone has any other knowledge about this, would like to know.
If you have Alltel, you can purchase software to turn your
I live in a very rural area--no cable and no high speed where I live. I had used dialup for the longest time but now use my cellphone for high speed. I do not technically have the "highest" speed because it is dependent on the signal you are getting on your phone. If I had better signal where I live I would have an even higher speed than I do now. It has worked very well so far and I am happy with it. The software was $60 which includes the disk for setup and two types of cables. I have an older phone so I am not able to use the cable that has a slot for an antenna to be connected.
Does anyone work on wireless?
Is this a good option?? I am not able to get cable, DSL, and satellite is too slow. Is wireless a good option for transcription when there don't seem to be any jobs for dial-up anymore? Thanks.
WiFlyer - Wireless dial up - does it work?

I found something called WiFlyer for "wireless dialup".  I think you plug it into your phone jack and then a little antennae to your notebook and you can move around the house freelying without a phone cord.  I wonder if it makes dial up any faster?  Has anyone used this?  What did you think?

Thanks

I work on a Dell XPS and am completely wireless except for headphones...

Wireless keyboard and mouse; wireless pedal in the form of a Playstation wireless controller, although I am sure that only works with Express Scribe.  You can buy wireless headphones, but I have not invested in them as of yet.  Being wireless, I have found it very comfortable to work in my recliner chair. I can even put my feet up while using the joystick on the Playstation controler to play the sound.  My ergo keyboard fits in my lap, which some may find a litte weird, but I am total comfortable without any aches, pains, numbness, fatigue. Mouse goes on the arm of the chair (works only with opitcal mouse, no wheel).  Works for me.  Good luck!!!!

Doesn't work with "wireless" - my laptop is wireless sm
And my tower is wireless, does this mean I can't use it at all? Sorry to be so uninformed was looking forward to the 2 computers,1 screen and keyboard. ???
Wild guess-borrow a wireless?? Go to an open wirless and work from the car if you have to?
Where there's a will there's a way - keep asking and keep talking, someone will help you. Ask the company you work for to help you out here, perhaps they have a plan for you if they value your association.
Sat connection
Satellite is more expensive than DSL or cable and not very reliable, as already mentioned.

The small hospital I work for used to have one home-based girl on satellite until DSL was finally offered in her area. It was horrible! She had to wait for the characters to catch up to her in Meditech.

Voice files using the Fusion player came over great though.
Need connection help

I am hoping someone can help.  I am trying to connect to a server (new job) and the MTSO I'm working for is away for the evenig.  She told me to connect by  REMOTE DESKTOP to log into their server.   I have no idea how to do this.  Boy, do I feel dumb.

TIA.

VPN Connection
When I am working if I get a call I lose my VPN connection. After several minutes I can reconnect and pick up where I let off, most of the time. Sometimes I have to save my work and completely reboot in order to conneect. Does this happen to any one else. So annoying and time consuming.
USB connection
Sorry to be a computer dunce...and I have looked so many times on my computer, but cannot find...I need to know if most computers have more than one USB connection.  I already have my foot pedal plugged into the one I could find, and would like to purchase the Sound Blaster External 24-bit Sound as recommended on this site to get better quality sound, but for the life of me, I cannot find another USB connection.  Please help if you can.  Thank you.
Connection might not be

the problem.  This site was taken over several months ago by another organization.  Have you not wondered where all the regulars went?  Great new MT site...

Wal-Mart connection
My nephew has had it for 2 yrs and seems pretty happy with it, even after leaving AOL & MSN, so it seems to be decent.
No difference in them other than connection.
Some companies require a 9-pin or 15-pin, but you can get adapters to convert to USB if that is what you have.
Try Transcription Connection, Inc. sm
Located in Lynchburg, OH. Smaller company, but they have a good variety of work. Pay was a little low for me (8 cpl), but they do pay on time always every other Friday, direct deposit.
Internet connection

Does anybody use ATT/SBC DSL?  If so, how is it?

I have Insight (cable), and I have a problem with no internet connections at least once every 2 weeks and thinking about switching.

Thanks!

internet connection
I have Insight, too, and I'm having a terrible time keeping connected. They have somehow, with their high-tech capabilities, discovered that I use a VPN, and now they are locking me up every document or at least every othe document! The only solution is that I'm going to have to pay business rate as opposed to consumer rate. I don't own a business, just work for an online company out of my home, but Insight doesn't care. They consider it "my" business and now I'm going to have to pay a whole lot more to keep them from locking me up.
Internet connection
Ive been using ATT/SBC DSL for a long time, long before they were bought out by AT&T and were just SBC. I love it! Wouldn't have it any other way. I RARELY have any trouble with it.
how about your spiritual connection?

Remote PC connection

One of my clients allows me to remotely access their computer to obtain patient lists and transfer files. I have high-speed cable, but there is some delay when I use Word on their computer. I imagine other programs would be a bit slower as well.

If you have Windows XP Professional, you can give this a try yourself by setting up a Remote Desktop Connection. A Google search for this will give you step-by-step instructions.

Yes, the net connection comes right up. Get the KVM that allows audio, too, though, so you don't

Internet Connection
My daughter and I have laptops as well and we both have cards which make them wireless. The card is not from a cell phone company it is a wireless network card that picks up a signal from a router in our home which is connected to antoher PC connected to cable/Internet connection. I believe you can get a wireless card for your laptop and then a cable which allows you to use your cell phone, though I have no idea what it costs. I have known others who have done it this way. Good luck.
Sometimes the connection to the phone is

Agree with you there.. I really don't get the connection
between AAMT and a bounty hunter as motivational speaker. You'd think that they'd come up with someone better, but I believe he lives in Hawaii so maybe it was the best deal they could get (i.e. cheapest), maybe?
Dont see connection between this and MT.

Internet connection?
What does that have to do with anything?
Then what is her connection to the Spheris ad?
x
She has NO connection to Spheris...
she was just simply stating to Kippers that the Spheris site we've all seen may have been made by a disgruntled employee, etc. She is familiar with technology these days and how those things can happen... that is all.
when I get that message, my Internet connection is usually gone sm
I have to unplug my modem and reconnect to the Internet, but I am cable connect. Don't know if this is your problem, but has always been mine! Hope this helps
Not sure, but I'm guessing the unreliability of the connection too.
I have satellite TV, only because cable hasn't been stretched this far yet..:0 - I'll sure be going back to cable if it ever gets here..

I have a phone line though, so that means DSL is available for my internet, although I guess not even everybody can get that either.
losing internet connection off and on

Losing internet connection happened quite a bit for me.  I kept calling Comcast, they said to reboot.  I had a computer tech out to look at the computer and they deleted a bunch of junk and it ended up my cable modem was bad.  It was 3 years old.  I got a new one and it works great now.

Unplug their internet connection nm

Cable connection question?

I am soon moving to an area where cable is available.  A friend has advised that I have a backup phone line internet connection.  Any advice?

Thanks for any/all help!

How do you speeding up a dial up connection?

This is for all of us poor MTs that are still stuck with dial up as our only option.  Satelite is just too darn expensive for what we get paid  and moving is even more expensive.  So....are there any tips or tricks to making our dial up connections any faster so we can download those dictation files faster and not time out anymore?

Please do not mention an accelerator.  I have that and it is only good for a webpage pop up faster and for opening email.  It has nothing to do with dictation files.

Is there something that were can do as far as the kind of phone cord we use, the length of it, or something like that?

What about our modems?  Is there something we can do to our modems to jack up our speeds?

And whats with software like Escription advertising on their website that dial up will work when it does not.  That info has to be to the dictators who have dial up and not to the MTs with dial up.

There has to be hope for us becaue after 10 years of MT work I will be darned if I give up being home with my kids just because of my internet connection speed!!!!

Thanks letting me vent

Very frustated dial up MT

VOIP and internet connection - sm
I have VOIP with my cable provider, Roadrunner, and I can use my Lanier at the same time as I am on the Internet, no problems.  In my area, this is much cheaper than unlimited long distance phone service with my land line provider (which I kept, by the way, as you have NO phone if your cable goes out).   I have not had any problems at all.  Hope this helps.
Question on internet connection....

I have a question that I'm sure someone knows the answer to.  My son was telling me that a friend of his has a laptop and she has a card she puts in it and can then connect to the internet wirelessly.  Where we are located there is no high-speed yet, so I am wondering if this is through cell phone or something like that.  He thought it was like a Cingular card or something (which is a cell phone company).  Does anyone know how this works as far as cost, etc?  I have a cell phone through Cingular and am wondering if you use something like this does it  take minutes off your plan?  I guess I'm sort of dumb about all of this.  Thanks for any help you can give.

Satellite internet connection
I can't get DSL/fast access internet where I live and am thinking about getting a satellite connection, but it's a huge investment.  If anyone has it or has had it in the past, please let me know what you think and how it works for you.  Thanks a bunch!
what type internet connection do you have?
Per thier site...

CryptoHeaven performance is slow.

CryptoHeaven is designed to work on high-speed and broadband Internet connections. Dial-up users can use CryptoHeaven but are advised the response time is slower. Dial-up users should keep file transfers small.

What can cause computer to lose internet connection off and on.
:
OK, for laptop users...connection question...

As per the discussion below about laptops.  How many of you have wireless internet and how reliable and fast is it? If I were to go up to our mountain (foothills) lake lot and try to transcribe, I fear the mountains would cut out the signal.

Even those of you that transcribe on the deck, if you don't have wireless, don't you have to string a high-speed cable out there or a phone line if you use the phone? Oh, of course I am assuming that some of you work for nationals and need a phone or cable connection.  I suppose some of you work off of tapes or such.

Thanks.
