I would lend support to her if she wasn't blaming everyone but herself.
She was just on TV blaming these "two criminals" who have been left go because there was NO EVIDENCE to keep them and asking other nations not to take them in.  Where in the world does she get off.  What EVIDENCE does she have to support her "theory" that these two boys were "criminals" and who died and left her in charge of other nations as to who they should take in to their country.  She is implying that the Aruban government is not competent to decide whether or not there is evidence to keep these people in custody.  She needs to put her EVIDENCE up front as to why she is making these demands and accusations or sit down and SHUT UP.  She is coming very close to libel without information to backup her accusations and I would think she should recognize that.  If she is going to shoot off her uninformed mouth, let her do it in her own country.

They help with the carpal tunnel and keep hands warm for me. They cover the hand and wrist but leave the fingers free. I wear them inside out, though, because the seams rub on the skin too much for me. I've gotten so used to them, that it is more comfortable wearing them while typing than typing with nothing on.

Thanks for helping me to get a different (sm)
perspective on this. Both of your responses made me remember just how often the docs do say thanks, or have a nice day, or wish me a happy holiday if I happen to be working on one. Think I'll just try to remember to focus on the good ones and stop letting the ones with bad attitudes get to me.

Thanks again for letting me get that off my chest--hope you both have a great rest of the week! :)

Tru dat is slang expression appropriated from the urban/hip-hop culture that even here nestled in the far far reaches of the midwest I am aware of, rating right up there with foshizzle and the old favorites 'dissing', 'blood', and 'groovy'. If you believe that to be a mockery of Southeast Asian pronunciation, maybe Curious did hit the nail on the head.
Your school should be helping you
to find employment. All the best MT schools provide job placement assistance. At the very least, your school should be able to tell you what companies seek to hire their graduates. It should be something your school is proud and eager to share with you. If no one is willing to hire graduates of your school, you might have to bite the bullet and get some further training from one of the MT schools that turn out job-ready MTs. Companies are eager to hire from those schools because they know what they're getting. Good luck to you.
thanks for helping. I still don't know what to do though. I can't hear V5.

I do QA also and agree with that QA - she is helping you really. nm

Helping U.S. MTs is exactly my thought.
I don't really believe that there will never be a need for U.S. MTs, but I feel this may open up a new market for U.S. MTs, giving more expereinced MTs a new avenue for their skills (at least that would be my hope). I appreciate your comments, they really help!

I am so grateful that there are such smart and kind people here to help.  Thank you so much.  When you walk into a store you never know what ulterior motives they have in telling you what you need!

I'm helping a local MTSO out who is in a bind.

He uses Word and my company uses WP5.1.   He sent me some templates and I can pull those up, but there is some header information with patient name, etc. that is shaded gray and I can't get to that to enter the information and I don't know enough about Word to know what to do at this point.  The MTSO knows even less about Word than I do and the MT that did the account is out for surgery.

I hope I'm making sense and someone can tell me what to do or what to go to look for the information.   I've done straight typing in Word using templates previously and I have not had to do any formatting, so this is all new to me.

I have no problem helping people who deserve it
I welcome anyone from there who has gotten up in the morning and worked like the rest of us and was hit with an unfortunate run of bad luck, but when I see people taking TV's out of stores, shooting at the EMT's who are trying to help people, and crapping all over the Astrodome, no thanks.  I don't want them in my city or even on my planet.
In transcription for recognition and helping humanity?
Ummm no. Money.

It cut off my reply... I worked with one guy who was helping pay thru med school by transcribing...

I have no family, just 2 pets. I am probably going to be out of a job soon myself, but if I cannot help someone else then my days are numbered. $50.00 will not kill me. It is pointless to say she should have been prepared, evidently she was, she HAD insurance. If I can make anyones load a little lighter I can live on that at least 6 months. To know you are not alone in this world might keep someones hope to keep on keeping on just one more day, then my moral values have been enlightened. The key word is "morals."

I think sometimes we are getting as cruel and thougtless as the companies who want profits at any cost. They are teaching us that. We seem to be learning well by some of the posts to this person's dilemna. I for one am not going blind yet, although my mother did right before her death and it broke my heart as she loved to read.

"Compassion," what happened to that? So far at 63 I am still healthy. I have no insurance, I cannot afford $500 a month, but I can still offer help to a fellow human being.

Merry Christmas and to all a good night.

It's my daughter (rcv'd AA in ང). She's helping a friend with (smsg)

the friend's final project in video production.  My daughter is taking the stills for it, which is allowed.  She is going to be mentioned in the credits and was wondering how it would look.  Her AA is in photography.

I do agree, though, it's not "that" big of an accomplishment in the everyday world.  Kind of like CMT... , although I would use that in something like a cover letter for a resume.

Yeah, I'd have to let them start helping with the cooking to learn some appreciation (sm)
"Sounds mean but I came from a family of 7 that had only 1 income and we ate what was put on the table and if we complained too much then we had liver and spinach the next night. "

That's hilarious! Your parents were smart! I grew up the same way, except that spinach was one veggie we liked, and mom only made liver twice a year because she hated it herself.
What type of doctor specializes in helping people gain weight?

I'm kind of baffled on what my mother should do, and I'm hoping that someone out there has typed a report on something like this.

My mom weighs 78 pounds and cannot gain weight through diet.  She has seen several doctors, and they are not sure what she should do.  Is there a type of doctor that specializes in this?

Her history is that she had a severe H. pylori infection.  When I was a kid it was so severe that her stomach ulcers hemorrhaged and she went into a coma for a while.  By the time H. pylori became an actual diagnosable condition, the infection had eaten away most of her stomach.  She went on antibiotics finally, but by that time she had to have the majority of her stomach, some of her intestines, and her gallbladder removed.

She now eats quite a bit, but everything runs right through her.  She can't gain weight no matter how much she consumes.  She has tried all the protein drinks and even tried eating large quantities of trail mix with no results.  She can't gain weight no matter what she tries.

She has seen several doctors and a dietician.  None have have offered any real solutions and all have questioned whether she is anorexic and just hiding it.

Does anyone know of a clinic or hospital that specializes in this?  Are there any types of treatment for this?

IMHO, helping humanity is along the lines of teaching, volunteering, nursing, working with

On the other hand....
if you're an experienced acute care MT, you can pick up radiology in a month or two.  I just did it earlier this year.  Never typed a minute of radiology before and a couple months later I'm "flyin" at it.  Yes, there's a learning curve, but it's not brain surgery.
on the other hand...
If you knew the TAT on the account when you took it on, and accepted it as such, then your obligation is to have the work done on time.  If your personal life is getting more complicated and interfering with your ability to maintain the TAT,  then maybe you should let your employer know so they can replace you with someone who can meet the TAT.  Their first obligation is to the client, after all.
On the other hand....
Just the fact that you would be working on only one type of report would tend be for better production.
None I can think of off hand LOL!

Anyone have experience with companies who hire you as an employee, certain hours but don't provide you with the equipment you need?  Worked for a company that did that but no medical spell checker on their software, some accounts they want YOU to buy a C-phone for etc. etc.  Asked them up front if account I would be working on would have medical speller, told yes.  It did not.  Also there was some kind of ShortHand program built in that they knew nothing about, we couldn't get to and conflicted with the autocorrect I used in Word.  Kept asking and it was always we will ask the hospital and then nothing.  Went out bought my own spell check and whatever I needed then three weeks into working, they dump the account.

Start over with a new account, different problems, they want me to buy even more stuff.  Said no I am outta here!

Anybody had that problem?

You're right .. and here's 1st-hand knowledge -- sm

I start med school (been an MT for 24 years) August 2006.

One of my classes last semester was Intro to Medical Practices.  I especially inquired about pro bono work by all the physicians and dentists who spoke to the class as guests each week.  All gave significant amounts of their practice to pro bono work.

One physician in particular impressed me.  He is a cardiovascular surgeon.  His main area of expertise is doing cardiac bypasses.  To make a long story short, because of insurance changes (MCare) over the past few years, he only makes about $650 per bypass for his own pocket and that is gross.  Of the $1850 MCare and insurance companies pay him for this procedure, it costs him $1200 in overhead for that procedure.  Until last year, he would often do the procedure for free for patients who could not afford it and had no insurance.  However, for 2 years he had to BORROW MONEY to pay his OVERHEAD because he did so much pro bono work.  He finally decided he just could not go bankrupt doing that.  So now, he STILL does HIS PART for free but the patient has to pay his overhead.  He tells them to call their family, friends, churches and if they have the $1200 for his overhead, he will donate HIS skills/time/energy for free.

The physician (maxillofacial surgeon) who directed this class said his annual pro bono work runs around $250,000 a year.

As well, while dentists recoup 95% to 100% of the fees charged for their services (they are ALWAYS getting their money up front), physicians (with the exception of cosmetic plastic surgery) only recoup an average of 31% of their fees.  For every $1000 they spend on a patient, they will only get back approximately $310 and must write off the rest.

Now that is INSIDE information - direct from the physicians and dentists we had in class.  I was shocked.  Not deterred, but shocked.

Regarding that lovely cardiologist who gives so much away, take into consideration that the $650 for HIS skills/time/energy for ONE cardiac bypass -- he invests a total of 12 to 15 hours for that one procedure (that is WITHOUT complications happening) including his consult/operative time/followup visits, hospital rounds, etc.  That comes out to about $54 an hour -- and plumbers and electricians around here make more than that.  My Ford dealership in town gets $76 an hour.

And now, since we are starting to do bypasses endovascularly through the femoral artery, he has to really put the money down for more education to train to do this or he will be out of business shortly.

Interesting huh?!  When people make comments to me about my future as a physician as a way to "get rich", I tell them not necessarily so!!  LOL  I'm not doing it for money!  You couldn't pay me enough to go through all this at this time in my life!!  LOL

Because I live with it first hand

I do get offensive when someone doesn't like my children simply because of their skin tone.  I'm not saying that the OP said anything about my children or even posted about the topic.  I was just offended that she can so casually admit to being a prejudice person.  Prejudice causes hate and violence.  I take offense to that.  I think that you should, and everyone should take offense to it so that it can be stopped.  If everyone were okay with it or  no one ever stood up about the subject, where would we be?

Also, there is a difference between knowing someone as an individual that may be a "bad seed" and be a minority and not liking them versus not liking someone without knowing them as a person simply because they are a minority.

All I know is, when those of us who are saved make it to heaven, there will be every race there right along with us, as God has created us all in his image.

Don't need hand holding.
I don't expect them to hold my hand, but it would be nice if they at least pretended to be somewhat human! Compassion for another person's loss only takes a second to respond to.... as you said in your post. It only took a second right? Most of the time I am with you, I would rather NOT hear from them. But of course I sent an e-mail to tell her that I would be out for the funeral, she could have replied with a condolence. That's all I am saying. I think that's a bit of a problem with the world in general these days, no one even seems to have time to be kind. Thank you for your second to respond and give your condolence on my loss!
Hand stress

I've transcribed since 1983.  You can lessen hand stress if you observe how you hold your hands as you type.  When I was in my twenties I noticed that there was a real difference in the way I held my hands and how the older transcriptionists (they had their wrists up and hands pointing down at the keyboard).  I have always had my wrists laying on something and my fingers are going up.  I have never had one bit of carpal tunnel or pain whatsoever.
