Another Question From OP (sm)

Hey, guys... I was wondering something...

Do any of you ICs have contracts that YOU have the MTSO sign?  I signed a confidentiality agreement with the current non-paying / psycho expectations MTSO, and agreement that if I rented any of her equipment I'd return it when and where and how she says (I don't rent), that my work has to be done when she says and equipment failure is not her problem, etc.  (It is a very unfriendly contract, that should have been my first sign.  But she was so NICE to me before she started going psycho with her demands and then not paying me!)

Anyway, since I am basically in business for myself I was wondering if I should have a contract that the MTSO signs before I start doing work for them or if that is something that is sometimes/always/never done.  I just don't know, but I'm thinking it sounds like a good idea to me!

In my annoyed little brain, I have been thinking about something along the lines of helping me avoid the problems I've had thus far with this particular MTSO as far as laying down ground rules --  some professional and legal-ese way of wording the following thoughts:

"We have agreed that your paydates are the Xth and the Xth.  If payment is more than 24 hours late....  (some sort of consequence?)

"I'm happy to do STAT work for this differential" (Rather than whenever you get your tookus in a sling and then want me to dig you out from it.)

"I'm happy to work weekends with this differential" (See about about tookus and sling!)

"I am an IC, I will get the work back within 24 hours, but I am not tied to my computer all the LIVELONG DAY, so please don't leave me witchy messages when I don't email you back ten minutes after you email me asking me to do a STAT report", etc.   (IC = IC, not slave.)

Ever heard of such a thing, anyone?  I mean, if they give us "contracts" to sign saying when our work is due and it better dang well not be late or else she's sending Cousin Vinnie over to break our kneecaps...  Why don't ICs have contracts as well?

Do they? Do you?  Care to share?  MTSOs (non-psycho ones), I'd be especially interested in your input here as well.

Thanks for the patience with a long post and lots of questions, all!  You're so wise!
