says they will hire more offshore employees and cut US employees because of the cost.  This could cause our jobs also to go to offshore companies.

Today is different and you cannot fight companies who LEGALLY can offshore work.
So all Americans refuse to buy goods, shop at stores, or work for companies who offshore.  That leaves a mess.  Do you realize a lot of American companies are actually owned by foreigners?  Get real and move into 2005.  You are going to spend a lot of time boycotting once you do the research.  I doubt you will be able to shop or work at all.
I was told today that all the big computer companies offshore their technical service. Does anyone

This in today's news....about EMR...
The president said there are some elements that all sides can agree on such as electronic health records that will save lives and money. Other issues — such as his $634 billion down payment for expanded coverage — are certain to create deep divisions.

He said: "We have to keep an open mind."

Obama invited more than 120 people who hold a wide range of views on how to fix the system.

Oh, how sad. I haven't had news on today.

Depressing news today
Well.  My hospital job was outsourced in August and I also had a PT job to help pay bills too.  Today I found out that I will no longer have that PT job as that I was working PT for has decided to put all MTs in one pool to work at all of their hospitals they own, so the Outsource Co I have worked for four years has lost that contract basically.  Another financial loss.  I was making bringing home about $2300 a month and now I am down to about $900 a month or less.    What a blow.  Jobs are so scarce now and I just cannot go to Walmart to get a job because I had major back surgery years ago and I just cannot stand lor long periods of time.  I do not know if I would even qualify for unemployment benefits which is so little but it would pay credit cards maybe.   I have not heard really of MTs qualifying for unemployment and I am not so sure about this either.  I am going to check into it, but I doubt.    My MT friend where we used to work had to borrow $30 yesterday to buy a couple of groceries.  She bought food to make chilli and Hamburber Helper to last for days.  I hope things turn around, but at this point I am not so sure.  So depressing and I am tired of taking typing tests.  I have been an MT for 29 years and score really high on tests, but then a person never hears back from those companies.  Just how depressing is that and I know that a lot of us have been there, done that.   Have resumes in everywhere I can think.  Lets all hope and pray hard for things to turn around in this next year.

Transcend.
If all they had was the offshore companies
to transcribe, do you know how unhappy the M.D.'s would be.  They are already complaining.  There would be enough jobs if no one worked for the offshoring ones.  Idealistic?  Yes, but.............

You can thank offshoring and the companies who offshore for most of this. SM

Been in the business well over 20 years and I am working twice as hard for half as much.  It started with offshoring and the big MTSOs who bolted the US like their pants were on fire.  They used the excuse that were not enough US MTs.  LIES.  All LIES.  They forced the smaller MTSOs to charge less.  We got paid less.  Many of the smaller MTSOs got gobbled up by the Squid (MQ).  Now there are only one or two superpowers and they all offshore.  Some of them lie about it, some are very open.  This business is not even close to what it should be as far as making a living.

So many companies offshore that there aren't
enough companies that don't to take on the displaced MTs.   Standing up for what you believe in is a good thing, but when it comes to putting food on the table you do what you have to do and then you have those that just don't care, give them a paycheck and that is all that matters.
They also try to place you with companies that offshore.
t
There are good companies that do not offshore -hopefully will never have to.
nm
I know of 2 companies, neither of whom offshore, that are slammed with
overflow from the MQ shutdown. I think clients are looking for anyone that works on platforms they use to pick up the slack.
If we boycott working for companies that offshore,
boycott medical providers that offshore, and write to our politicians, maybe we can change things. I won't go to any local doctor that uses an offshored transcription outsource. Hit 'em where it counts, right in their big fat wallets. They put us out of work and reduced our wages, so why do we owe them any loyalty? Why should we pay higher medical bills when they're too cheap to pay us what we're worth? Pretty soon, we'll all be on unemployment, foodstamps and Medicaid. One way or another, they'll have to cough up.
This is not a new market. Is being done with all offshore companies I have ever worked for. nm
:+
You idiot, there are plenty of jobs with companies that DON'T offshore. Go somewhere else and

quit your raggin on this board.

all 3 major credit-reporting companies offshore
Equifax
Experian
TransUnion

all 3 offshore your information

there's just no fighting it by refusing to do biz with them

the only fight to hold is with the govt for allowing this ridiculous practice

I have an idea...we can picket those facilities who use companies that offshore. sm
Every patient going in and coming out of that hospital/facility will know their private medical record is going offshore to be transcribed and therefore, there is risk of identity theft, lack of privacy, etc Just like those for ProLife and the like.

I think that will bring attention to the matter!

I know a huge hospital system in my town outsources their TX to MQ, who is now CBay, and now everything will be offshore. I think I will make my point and concerns when I have picket signs outside the President's window in a public area, so as not to be trespassing.

Free Speech in America.....right!!!
AAMT/AHDI is run by and for the management of companies that offshore!
I too used be a member and an officer in the local chapter.  I too attended all the activities.  I have since let my CMT lapse.  Never once has being a CMT earned me a better job or more money, it's all about the experience and the quality of work you can produce, not whether or not you're a CMT!
I guess you forgot about India and all the other offshore companies they deal with, ASR and EMR.
That is the plan. They have hired all management lately that have been involved very heavily with overseas companies. Now why do you think that is. I dont think you see the whole plan here.
Please post offshore topics on Offshore Concerns board. (NM)

Thank you.

News flash..Don't know where you get your news, but the economy is doing very well.

My theory is no news is good news. (sm)
If there is really a problem with your transcription, then I would not worry about it. They will get to you if you screw up.

As far as policies and procedures, look in your manual. I am sure they gave you info for all of that stuff. JMO.
I have good news and bad news 4U...
The good news is on Saturday, July 1 many of your least favorite residents will be "graduating." The bad news is that on the same day you'll be getting a virtual box of candy with brand new residents who have no clue how to dictate! RU excited?? ARGHHHH!!!!
HELP with Shorthand. Suddenly today when I tried to start work today.sm

my ShortHand would type only the first letter of an expansion and then take all the letters away!  I checked and the Type It button is grayed out!  I have restarted the computer and looked on the Shorthand Help menu but can find nothing that applies.  Can anyone please help me ASAP?  I am lost without it!  TIA

Perhaps you are right. This one is dated today. The original article was on Yahoo today also with

But this article states it would only affect new customers right now.  So I am upset over nothing.  I went through heck with BellSouth when they charged me a surcharge of an extra 50 a month and then would write a letter saying I had to switch to a long distance service and pay by the minute because of my "excessive" use. They told me the unlimited charge was for an average of an hour a day not somebody who worked out of their home and I needed to switch a business plan at over 200 a month charge.  I switched over to cable because of that and then to read that cable was going to charging on a per use fee and not a flat monthly fee it upset me.  It is the nature of our work, VR, only paying for VBC, having headers and footers taken away, now being charged for being on line, etc.  It just seems that everything is done to keep to insure less money.

Blasted cold out today. It was 104 degrees last week, but it's 40 degrees today with rain.
However, I do like cozy days like today when I don't have to go anywhere.  I'm done working, the house is clean, there's chili on the stove for dinner already, and I'm just putzing around.  I think I'll go bake some jalapeno cheese bread to go with the chili.
MT companies negotiate with the insurance companies until they get what they want

It is strictly up to the agreement between the employer and the insurance company.  Your new employer can tell you what the pre-existing clause is in your new policy.  Some require proof of insurance for the past 12 months.  It may say something like if a diagnosis has not been made NOR treatment received within the last __ months.  Not good when companies negotiate with a pre-existing clause in order to get a lower rate.  Better check with your HR with your new company before doing anything.  It really gets hairy !

Microsoft
Ok, Microsoft 4000 sounds like the keyboard to buy but can someone explain a bit more in detail why is takes a week or so to adjust to it? And is it a "clicky-sounding" keyboard?  TIA
I have Microsoft
Ergonomic 4000.  it was the best investment I have ever made.  It took me a whole day of typing to get used to it but now I have a hard time using the standard keyboards.  I think I paid around $60 for mine at Staples but I'm an IC so it was a write-off and believe me, I need all that I can get.

If you can get through the test files, then the sound quality on the actual company files is better. And, the dictation is never as bad as the test files, plus you have QA to help with hard blanks.
You do know that they offshore, right?? Despite what they tell you -
about the hospitals asking, other hospitals have no idea that the accounts are being transcribed offshore!
They offshore and looking to do more. I have
nearly 20 years' experience in acute care, can do even the most difficult ESLs and they offered me 8 cpl, 8.5 cpl over 18,000 lines/pay period.

Try not to offshore.
They might get it done faster/cheaper, but it is going to look like crap. How happy would your clients be then?
All About Offshore

Sending the work offshore can and does work for a couple of reasons.

Firstly the time zone difference, while the US sleeps we are transcribing and the reports back on the specialists' desks, so to speak, when they arrive at work the next morning.

I do not take issue with the fact that you want to keep the work on your shores, but I do take issue with the fact that you think the rest of the world is Third World and incapable of producing work of a high standard. Believe me, there is a world out there and its name is not the US, contrary to what you might think.

Even if they never offshore....sm
when their contracts renew they will be competing against the offshoring companies and the companies offshore already who will bid them under the table and they'll lose the account.

There are several interesting threads, articles, and blogs across the internet concerning the dying industry of the small MTSOs because of not having the capital to keep up with the technology and equipment needed and the decreasing line rates and increasing turnaround times that the facilities are demanding - and big national companies can offer them these things, so they can blow the small MTSOs out of the water.

There is no such thing as security in any job, but the MT industry is on even shakier ground. When your small MTSO has to sell out or loses their contracts and you lose your $36/hour client, you will find that very hard to replace when you go out into the new world of MT and try to find a comparable job today... there just aren't many out there and those that are have hundreds of MTs applying for them.

Now that's getting real...
Offshore
This is sooooooo not true. I work an afternoon shift and have friends/coworkers who work the midnight shift. Despite, this, even during the day shifts, the company we work for is sending all of the easy work offshore, leaving us domestic suckers to do ALL of the ESLs and otherwise hard work. This work was being stripped off daily, in ever increasing amounts --- now it is gone completely. Most of us do not mind doing all of the work as it comes --- but it absolutely sucks that we are being treated this way.
Offshore VR (sm)
I would think so. Personally, I think VR is better suited to newbie MT's and non-English-speaking transcriptionists because VR has a tendency to get the medical words right while totally mangling sentence structure, grammar, proper nouns, and other nuances of transcription that are more easily picked up by novices. Since the medical words have a better track record in VR, it thus becomes easier to bring in low-paid trainees.
Are you offshore?
Your grammer is soooooo bad,  I can't take you seriously.
Oh, I have too, for offshore ads. But not U.S.
